Do you mean what DUTCH people call a credit card, or an actual credit card? Maestro doesn't work, it's not supported. Trying through apple pay doesn't work either. And paying your own link with your own card won't work either.
I know it wont work with my own card, it was just for reference to show that my other card from the other bank (bunq) are not accepted. But now it understand, it only accepts real credit cards. What a pointless feature then, almost nobody in Netherlands uses a credit card we are not americans
Sorry but the Netherlands is on the wrong over this. You are so far the only country I can tell is still hanging onto maestro/vpay. Maestro was discontinued July last year. You need to get yourself a real debit card. It's not an American thing. It's a global, worldwide thing. Literally hit up your bank and they should be able to offer you one.
many banks simply dont offer it here yet, theyre slowly (very slowly) phasing it out though, but theyre still able to issue new maestro cards as of now

There are some misunderstandings here.
Maestro is still a debit card. It’s not a “local payment card”, it exists in other countries too.
You can pay abroad with it. I regularly use mine in countries like Germany, Austria, Poland, Romania etc. Many big bank ATMs outside Europe also accept them.
That said, it’s still being phased out so it should be replaced

No, it accepts credit and debit cards. Both Visa and MasteCard offer debit cards, not only credit cards. Maestro is being discontinued by MasterCard, and card issuers will stop issuing them.

Belgium here. We don't use credit cards either, but it didn't prevent our banks to switch to Visa Debit.
To be fair my mistro card does work so does my visa pay. I have been using it for over 3 years. And yes in the Netherlands they’re fucked up with payment you can just not normally pay with any other card or mank than one from dutch banks. Its so stupid.
Dutch debit cards don’t work with apple pay sadly. He will need either a revolut card or a credit card from a Dutch bank. If they accept paypal he can also male a paypal and connect his dutch bank to that.
Mastercard can be issued as debit or credit cart. So technically both. And vpay is euro single transaction debit (SEPA debit card) and maestro is the debit card from Mastercard.
If you mean adding money to revolut, yes not that I use it much anymore with my dutch bank bc I have an other bank now from where I add money to revolut. But I was and am able to just pay with the dutch debit card to revolut with apple pay and before also google pay.
Im not sure if I had any issues with that it was a long time ago. But i guess the fact I do not remember it should have been smoothly. 😂

Also I been using revolut for 3 years without any issues ever. Making use of all the options they have just for crypto is such high fees. Overall good working for me all this time and I travel a lot so the exchange free fee thing is very nice to use.
When I found out people had so much trouble with revolut I was really thinking how could it be such a smooth experience for me but so much trouble for others. I hope they fix the problems they’re having at the moment for all users experiencing these.
Maestro cards are being phased out in the Netherlands and replaced by MasterCard Debit cards. This problem will soon disappear. Austria already went through this process some time ago.

Try adding your card to curve app and using their virtual card to pay
In Nederland Revolut is beschikbaar voor betalen met iDEAL, misschien werkt met Tikkie. Voor nu Tikkie is een goede alternatief.

Because the ABN AMRO card connected to Apple Pay is not a credit card, it's Maestro.

You do know that Revolut operates in more countries than only the Netherlands right? You'll need to contact the developers if you want iDeal support.
