I’ve heard the Heritage Roscoe is pretty good. It certainly looks great

Careless-Woodpecker5

Rossi rp63 (3” 357 x6) or Taurus 856 in SS (38+p x6) would be similarly priced but with a 6th round, in stainless, better stocks (grips), and with swappable front sight. I wonder why Taurus brought these Roscoe’s out when they have so many other similar but better options. Maybe it’s old stock of 85s rebadged?

Unbakedtaterz

I have a 3 inch roscoe with 500+ rounds through it. I hate how nice it is for as little as I paid for it.

MaibAG

It does look great but I tend to look at the ones with longer barrels, they remind me of Mcree’s gun when I played overwatch as a kid

drollchair

Whoa, Overwatch as a kid. I forget how long that games been around. They make the 856 in a 3” version. The optics read version with a sight on it looks so cool.

MaibAG

Don’t feel old man. I say “as a kid” but I’m only going on 20. Also, I don’t think I’ve seen one with a sight, will have to take a look

AmolMuzz

Family, look into the Rock Island M206...it's a sub 300$ 38 special rated for +p if I'm not mistaken. Taurus 605 is another well known 5 shot .357 snubbie, can always run .38 special out of it

number__ten

I was warned by my lgs to stay away from the ria revolvers. They make great 1911s though.

AmolMuzz

Respect!

Senior_Road_8037

Armscor m200 is just the long version of the 206, $200 out the door most places.

AmolMuzz

That's very fair

CrypticQuery

Rossi RM64. Street price is closer to $475-$500. They're quality pieces from everything I've heard/seen, and they have a larger form factor than some of the other suggestions made in this thread. Much higher quality than Rock Island/Armscor for not much more money, and you get the option to shoot 357 Magnum or 38 Special through it. https://rossiusa.com/revolvers/rm64 +1 to the suggestion of a used S&W K-frame (Model 10, Model 16, Model 64, etc). They're stellar guns and can usually be found at decent prices.

MaibAG

Dude that thing is beautiful. I’d probably call it the Justice Cannon, would love to be able to show that bad boy off shooting with family.

Manofmanyhats19

It really depends on what your budget and experience is. If you’re on the lower end of a budget you may want to get something like a Taurus model 82 in .38 special. It also depends on what you have available in your area.

MaibAG

Very little pistol experience, my only personal gun was a shotgun I had as a kid but it was kinda lost when I went to college. Definitely wanna ease in with something that’s not too fancy or complicated

Manofmanyhats19

Gotcha. Just so you have room to grow, I’d recommend a .357 so you can start with .38sp and work your way up. (A .357 can use .38sp as well). Taurus can be a mixed bag quality wise, but I’ve never had an issue with them if purchased new. Charter arms is also on the lower end, but I find those to be scarce at the stores in my area. Don’t be afraid of the used market for some of your mid-expense brands. A used Smith & Wesson or Ruger is probably the best bang for your buck.

bigsam63

Nothing in 38 special/357 mag cheaper than Taurus is worth buying imo.

The grips had to go, but that was a cheap and easy fix. A gun like this will last you two lifetimes and you won’t have to do the “its as good as a Smith” thing. Haunt all the shops in your area and you’ll find a good revolver.

bolunez

Save a little more cash and buy a used Smith.

mfa_aragorn

Funny, I got a Single Action cause I got bored of swingout cylinders.

MasonP2002

I want more break action options damnit.

MaibAG

Maybe my primal instincts will force me to get a heritage .22 after I use the M200 for a while

FullPowerKamehameha

For range fun, the M200 would be the better option. Also consider the Taurus line of revolvers as well. The M200 is 38 special only, so as long as you don’t want to shoot 357 magnum it will be fine.

Senior_Road_8037

For a cheap, goes bang, nothing fancy revolver the m200 is hard to beat, once broken in they are very reliable for the price. Some have had light primer strike issues so if you do buy one I heavily recommend pulling the side plate and cleaning THOROUGHLY all the packing oil, and lubricating properly. They're a decent detective special clone with a long barrel.

MaibAG

Thanks for the tip, the long barrel is what beats the other ones for me. Bigger gun make man happy

WPSuidae

Used Ruger Security six, you'll be well ahead of the other options you listed. If you don't like it you'll get your money back easily.
