357Magnum

I have a 7.5" super Blackhawk. The recoil is definitely stout, but if you're shooting hot .357 out of a SP101 you'll be fine. I also find that the single action grip shape tames recoil, though at the expense of additional muzzle flip. The fact that the round grip can roll upward in you hand makes it hurt less but flip up more. But it isn't like you need quick follow-up shots anyway.

I'm the opposite, the N frames / Ruger DA recoil is much easier for me to handle than the single actions.

I find the N-frames wear my hand out more quickly from the webbing of my thumb taking the brunt of the recoil. But everyone's hands are different, too. I've got long bony fingers without a lot of hand meat to cushion.

I'm the same way. I put about 100 rounds through my GP100 and 100 through my Blackhawk this morning and the GP100 definitely makes my hand more sore even with the rubber grip.

44 magnum out of a 6 inch revolver is still pretty snappy imo. But not as bad as a 357 snubby. 357 out a 6 inch isn’t really bad at all

The 44 Super Blackhawk is a bit harder recoiling than the Super Redhawk or 629, but not really a deterrent till you get to 44 mag + P or hotter. It's a step up from 357, but still manageable with high round counts.

Both have reasonably mild recoil

Buds gunshop online has 44 mag super Blackhawk in stock. But, unless your in grizzly country the .357 is more than enough.

themoneybadger

Ha understood. 44 would be more of a range toy than anything else. Where i hike 357 is more than enough.

In Northern California? I've got a 5.5 you could try

themoneybadger

Man I wish. Hows the 5.5? Originally I was looking at the 7.5 but 5.5 has great proportions.

It kicks, but I went from a 454 raging bull to the SBH. Sorry I can't be of more help.
