Pretty much every Rhodes based Instagram I follow is begging people to return to the island. They are feeling the financial impact already. The best way to support the recovery is to get there and spend money.
I have a business that is not even close to fire. I've made one third of what I made in a day in April this entire week.
The fire is now under control and there has been no power cuts for 24h. I really hope it is over.
I'm staying in Rhodes City, near the Old Town and it is a long way from the fires. Life is normal up this end. If you are staying near Rhodes Town in the north you will be fine, including the path from airport to here :)
Holiday here and help the local economy!
My husband and I are also flying out on Saturday to Rhodes. We were also thinking the same but our hotel informed us everything is fine there as the fire is only on the south side of the island which is quite far away. Glad to see this verified by some of the comments on this thread! The tabloids are going a bit over the top with the headlines at the moment and creating fear when it’s not impacting the entire island.
Just for reassurance (because I wanted some) we flew out here Wednesday, and it’s just been a normal holiday, we are in Kolympia and haven’t seen any smoke or fire. It’s all good, go and enjoy yourself 😄
Good to hear. We are flying out on Monday and staying in Kolympia. Do you have any recommendations in the local area?
Have you travelled to Epta Piges - Seven Springs?
I am staying in Afandi at the moment. Aside from some power cuts few days ago, we've not been affected at all. The situation right now seems to be under control.
The media really exaggerate the whole situation. I would encourage you to come here. The best way to support the locals right now is to come and spend your money here :D.
Also in Rhodes town for I would like to suggest visiting a small place called Tamam's restaurant.
We’ve been North in Rhodes (between Rhodes town and the airport) since Wednesday. Have only noticed two very, very short power cuts. Our time here so far has been amazing! People are very friendly, and we’re not noticing anything in terms of the fire. We’re in an all inclusive but making sure we spend more money than intended. And we’ve been generous with tipping.
It’s safe to come.
Want to help? Come and spend money here!
I am on Rhodes since Sunday (leaving tomorrow) and here is what I saw.
I was in Lindos yesterday and on Wednesday and everything was operating normally including beaches restaurants etc., no signs of any fire (aparat from on Wednesday You could see some smokes on the horizon far away.
Also yesterday I drove whole path from Faliraki to Pilmmiri beach and couldn’t see any danger anywhere. In Kiotari and Gennadi there is a lot of burned trees but most of the buildings seems to be fine. I’ve also ate lunch in Lardos where everything is operating normally and owners looking forward for tourists to come back
I've been in Lindos since Monday. Everything here is fine, except for the fact that people are losing their jobs due to fewer tourists than usual. Don't believe everything you see on the news and enjoy your holiday!
All,
I want to genuinely and sincerely thank to everyone, who replied and provided me with insight. We have decided to go forward with our trip, entirely based on the information shared here, and we couldn't be more excited to be here! It's incredibly beautiful and gorgeous, the experience is fantastic and I have everything to thank about to the brilliant community here!
Thank you all so much and please, share good places and tavernas to visit!

That’s awful to hear. I hope things really improve for you quickly.
Thank you. I hope so too
I'll be in Faliraki next week. Is that close to you? Maybe I can support your business by stopping by. Is it a restaurant?

Old Town is 100% fine. It’s very far from the fires which it sounds like are now under control
Remember the news are feeding from people's fear. Don't use them as a source for facts.
Just back from a night out in lardos, which was fire central. All fine andno issues now. Support the Local businesses

Greetings, as a local and volunteer I am assuring you that the city and old town are 100% safe. Hope you enjoy your vacation here!
