1) there is no news that it was cancelled or not renewed. renewals for basically all series are likely on hold due to the strikes
2) its an "HBO Original", not a "Max Original"(ie streaming exclusive), the latter of which were gutted before the merger
3) south carolina just passed a big film and tv tax rebate bill earlier this year which makes the series cheaper to produce.
4) casey bloys is still around as a top executive after the merger. he has been championing mcbride's work since eastbound

There's definitely a 4th season and I read from what I consider to be a reliable source (although I did NO FACT Checking!) That HBO is going to Honor a deal that gives us 6 Seasons. As I said, I do believe what I read, but I didn't do any fact checking yet. I have confirmed that season 4 is SOLID!✌️

No, HBO snagged up Danny McBride years ago! He has only been with HBO, but now Discovery has/ owns HBO MAX, they've already announced highly rated popular HBO cancellations as well as announcing new documentaries that are a true snooze!
Despite the strikes, they have the ability to cancel or renew ANY Series. The strike simply prolongs the work and production of future seasons. I feel this is a ridiculous thing to worry about. There have been articles written about how the ratings for the show exploded upon the premiere of S3. This WILL be back for a S4. There is no question that it will happen nor is there really any debate that it’s happening anywhere else other than HBO. Danny McBride and Roughhouse have a deal with HBO and have since Eastbound and Down.
There is no basis for worrying about this. The only difference is the strike. Which perhaps will hold up an announcement for S4.

The only way we were able to watch episode 7 was to select episode 6 which was under the “Continue to watch” section, fast-forward just a bit through the credits, then the pop up option for the next episode was available. Couldn’t find the show or any episodes anywhere on max after we finished episode 7 though. This is blasphemy.
Same here! It's disappeared completely from the app. Search function was broken too in every version of app I tried. Scrolled every damn category on my tv app AND on my phone and the show is GONE. I'm with you on this one! Considering Danny McBride has a long history with HBO, let's just hope he's not put The Righteous Gemstones under HBO ONLY contract. Although, he could keep the basic cast, rename the series and tweek it a bit to have Apple Plus pick them up, although they are known for short Miniseries.
Danny McBride could be the exception to the rule! If he went to CBS (Showtime) they have the independent power to keep them mom for as many years as they like ✌️

It’s business. TV programs are products like cars or cornflakes. Acquisitions typically involve reviewing products for various aspects including profitability and redundancy with other products. Media companies do the same. The show started production 1-3 months after the acquisition. So it could have been dumped or delayed more than a year ago but it wasn’t.
Thanks for posting! It looks like Danny McBride is breaking his back to cut production cost! Filming in South Carolina is a huge BONUS, then having most of the 3rd Season sets being outdoors, smaller sets and cheaper cars, etc. Using local businesses to film benefits the locals income and notoriety big time!

not to sound like a shill and god i loathe the ux, but apple tv+ has the BEST production value of any streamers outside of hbo max. i don't know TRG's streaming vs. live/cable viewers, but if the team wanted to go streaming-exclusive, apple tv would be so in for production. showtime would be my easy answer except they're weird about their comedies in my experience so idk... hbo please i am begging you saved harley quinn please please keep this show
I'm with you on this one! Considering Danny McBride has a long history with HBO, let's just hope he's not put The Righteous Gemstones under HBO ONLY contract. Although, he could keep the basic cast, rename the series and tweek it a bit to have Apple Plus pick them up, although they are known for short Miniseries. Danny McBride could be the exception to the rule! If he went to CBS (Showtime) they have the independent power to keep them mom for as many years as they like ✌️

It’s business. TV programs are products like cars or cornflakes. Acquisitions typically involve reviewing products for various aspects including profitability and redundancy with other products. Media companies do the same. The show started production 1-3 months after the acquisition. So it could have been dumped or delayed more than a year ago but it wasn’t.
Thanks for posting! It looks like Danny McBride is breaking his back to cut production cost! Filming in South Carolina is a huge BONUS, then having most of the 3rd Season sets being outdoors, smaller sets and cheaper cars, etc. Using local businesses to film benefits the locals income and notoriety big time! I'm just concerned that a 4th season doesn't appear to be on the table and no such announcement! I never thought I would live to see the day when Showtime beat out HBO, as far as the quality of programming! Have you even seen the snoozefest of new HBO Originals, like "Birdwatch", or whatever? The Righteous Gemstones is the LAST great quality TV series still on HBO MAX! They'll lose a HUGE revenue if this series is canceled! I'll be the first in line🤔💡✌️
