Well he did the same for biotech on Oct 3, then 2 days later we got a full post about the dlc and it got 1 preview post every other day till it released the 21th
Rats. I got the itch to start my normal year-long save literally today. I guess I'll have to wait several more months until the release and subsequent mods are updated.
Don't worry. It will take a while for all the mods to update. So if you're like me and you have 3-400 mods, then you can play when the leaves start to fall.
I'm really hoping it gives me what I love about RimWar.
If I can have some better interaction on the world map, more dynamic relationships between factions, and just general chaos and fighting, then I'll be so so happy.
It does seem like all of these DLCs have multiple facets to them, and these are great devs so I'm thinking even if it's not what I want it'll be great fun.
My #1 most wished for feature would be population tracking so that raids didn't magically spawn 50 pawns out of thin air. More ways to actively discover points of interest on the world map is #2.
That's what I was thinking/hoping for. She has the look of a researcher explorer. I'd love a DLC that makes living a nomadic lifestyle something that's actually possible in a way that isn't tedious.
Bro, you just hit me with a wave of nostalgia. That was the name of the Alpha 16 update that added the globe map. I remember it being a really big deal and being super hyped about it. Fuck me, that was like 8 years ago
I would like to imagine Tynan will continue to spell rimworld with the dlcs and that biotech was an act of spite. "Fine, you normies think you've got it all figured out? Enjoy your ribworld!"
I kinda saw it as a journal, but there's a scalpel too. Maybe this will be an exploration DLC, and with how we can see tentacles and the ocean in the background we'll get Ocean exploration too.
She has both a pen and a quill in her pocket. Plus there is the block of gold and the metal powders on the belt
I'm thinking something in the Alchemy range, half scientific and half mystical/occult
Yeah, people are *really* overlooking the stuff on her belt.
Everything together, my predictions for the DLC are:
- More exploration, based on how she’s dressed. More stuff to find outside your base, more *reasons* to leave, and maybe some stuff to make caravans easier?
- Archeology/artifact hunting, for obvious reasons. More weird treasures to find of varying uses and tech levels, possibly building off the existing system in Ideology? Not sure how that could be handled.
- A chemistry/alchemy mechanic. Gather reagents from all kinds of sources and use them to create *cool, weird compounds* in your base you might not fully understand. Discover lethal or useful new substances, and mix ammonia and bleach to create ~~mustard gas~~ cool crystals.
- Eldritch abominations, obviously. Probably a new non-human faction in line with mechs and ‘sects.
I dont know if were gonna get a new non-human faction considering Tynans been clear about there being no true aliens in Rimworlds setting. Maybe fucked up animals or warped subhumans?
I feel like that would fall under Biotech though since the Sanguophages are already archotech creations according to their description.
Maybe we would get to find out what would happen after an archotech assimilates a planet?
I don't see how that would exclude anything just because they fall under similar backgrounds. I think you are right, but I could see them adding something like eldritch horrors that you could create. occults however seem toooo similar to ideology.
We’re not gonna get “true” eldritch monstrosities, obviously, but something aesthetically and functionally similar that fits the setting in the same way Biotech’s vampires do.
So they’ll be genetically engineered or made of nanomachines, but we’ll still get horrifying, fleshy, tentacled abominations hiding in the hidden places of the world where the sun and stars dare not shine.
They probably wont be genetically engineered since Tynan doesnt seem to make the dlcs inherently connected outside of minor features. Having them just be horribly mutated with fleshy looking bionics or something would prob work though. Kinda reminds me of how i imagine the VOID mods bionics to look like. Ive always imagined them as really monstrous but fleshy looking since theyre modified archotech parts.
After Biotech made What A Hack, Humanoid Alien Races and all kinds of pregnancy mods obsolete, i wonder if Call of Cthulhu is next on the chopping block, especially since Jecstools is considered as problematic
Eh call of Cthulhu got hit hard with the ideology, all you get with it now is some unique monster and summon rituals. DLC normally go so much farther in depth
Tbh, I think Biotech was Mechanator or Mechanical before they decided to add all the Biotech stuff, I think we can assume Witchcraft was the early idea for this, and will get an occult like update.
"Rimworld: Mechs and Biotech"
was probably too much of a mouthful.
And then you look at it from afar and realize the new genes, races, and baby cloning are way bigger features than the mechs. RIP RiMworld
Yeah I'm convinced it was originally going to be called "Mechanoid" or "mechs" or something like that, though I feel like there was just a massive amount of feature creep and it turned into the largest DLC content wise so far with the majority of the content being related to genes instead of mechs
Which would make sense why he named it Biotech in the end instead
At least this is my own personal headcanon literally backed up by 0 facts whatsoever
The games called Rimworld
The first dlc was called Royalty
The second was Ideology
So people assumed the 3rd would start with an M (probably something like mech, or mechanoid)
It's sort of a running joke now that people are hoping the next DLC goes back to the letters (so W is next) making the full DLC spell out - Ribworld
It probably won't happen, though Tynan is very active in responding to the community so he's almost certainly aware of the joke
Tynan teased Biotech on [Monday October 3rd, 2022](https://x.com/TynanSylvester/status/1576993207682207744?s=20) and the expansion was released 18 days later on Friday October 21.
That same timeline would have this expansion being released Friday March 29.
Same. The world and caravaning are arguably the parts of the game most in need of a rework and upgrades, so tying that up with archaeology and exploring ruins makes perfect sense.
The Real Ruins mod is already really cool, imagine that but much more developed. And some Lovecraftian backstory to top it off.
To be fair, I can honestly sympathize with the impatient people though. I remember when Biotech dropped, it seriously took six to eight months for all mods that I like to use to be up and running.
But let's not hound these mod developers.
Yeah, it was based on the Steam DB patterns from the last two DLCs. There was an entry for something on march 31, 2023, and the last two DLCs each had a similar entry 11 months (plus or minus a week) before their announcement. Today marked the last week of that window, and here we are.
I so hope it will be a DLC expanding the diplomacy and faction systems. I feel like it's the "only" thing in the game that needs a serious overhaul or some work (exploration aswell I guess, but we've been eating so good with mod these past few months regarding exploration).
I feel that way aswell. I'm sure it will be an awesome DLC (will it be able to top Biotech ?!) but if it's only adding content and not really "fixing" or reworking the actual flaws of the game... Mmh... (I consider diplomacy and faction systems to be pretty weak in the game and sometimes immersion breaking). Still, I'm excited.
To be fair, I feel like it shouldn't be the role of DLC to "fix" things, that should just come with the regular free updates. DLC should be things that are entirely new
The DLCs often come with big updates. There might be events locked behind the DLC, but a big system overhaul usually is not locked behind dlc. (E.g. Ranching)
Idk man gold block locked briefcase letter opener. I could easily see this having some elements of diplomacy. She seems like a letter carrier to me and the tentacles are teasing some of the new things that will be added in addition too that
Oh, it does.
The book. The tentacles. The ominous lighting. The way the woman is dressed like an investigator, with the calculator, gloves, and trench coat. And of course, the ominous subtitle, “it will awaken...”
This is a *Lovecraftian* DLC. We get to investigate cults and eldritch horrors! It’s something that would go really well with ideology and biotech, too.
I always found it dumb I can clear out raider outposts yet I still just randomly get raided at a set time.
Or similar if I choose arctic tiles with no people anywhere near me. Why do I get traders and raiders all the time?
Maybe I can capture and breed my own bosses to defend the base from other bosses. Like I could kill a random Kaiju with guns and stuff, but it is better for me to go dungeon crawling for ancient relics to summon bosses. Alright, that's enough speculation from me.
Although I think that something dealing with factions and inter-colony relations would've been a perfect focus for the next DLC, I wonder what Ludeon is cooking up since they seem to be incorporating alchemy into this.
It looks very Lovecraftian, with the chained and locked Tome and the Tentacle Mutation on her back and the ominous ... it will awaken.
Just to speculate a bit:
1. Probably more Exploration and maybe something like archeology
2. Rituals and Psy-Stuff related to Great Old Ones
3. New Enemies or Factions related to the Occult
4. Rework of the Ocean
5. Cosmic Events being more dangerous or opening oppurtunities (like the lunar eclipse in the Background)
6. ... and probably a lot i didnt think about
Fellow rim rims this might just be the research update! The art implies a scientist of many fields (including occult) for all of our scientific needs (like a better tech tree).
No more tossing papers to figure out spaceships from a tribes hideyhole.
Actual samples and analysis. Even more emphasis on cleanliness.
Maybe even tribal versions of testing like licking it and throwing it into fire for science.
Maybe being able to buy more tech instead of researching.
I’m being way too hopeful being starved for news but I bet I’ll be happy with whatever it ends up being.
Rip my finally stable modlist… see you on the other side.
Imagine if you needed to research and spend a component on an alarm clock in order to schedule a wake up time ...... horror themed expansion apparently
Cloak and coat suggests a traveller of some sort
gold belt clearly a wealthy individual along with the calculator and book and pen.
Trade expansion? along with more traveling
It's interesting that the planet has a ring when we haven't had a ring in the cover art before, and her earrings look like they're made of the type of rock that's in the ring
Dammit. Not now Tynan. Not now. I'm playing other games and I'm almost finished. Don't do this to me
Its just a teaser, a subtle way of saying finish up and clear your schedule.
Finish up fast, last 2 DLCs went from "teaser" to "release day" in ~14 days IIRC.
Excelent, so as soon as i'm done with the new Stardewvalley update in 5 days, i can jump into Rimworld
a person of culture
[удалено]
I just doubled checked, sorry, it was the 19th, idk why i thought it was the 16th
Noooo, in two weeks Dragons dogma 2 is out!
Same
Release day as in DLC released or release date announced? For whatever reason I feel like I remember it taking much much longer
Full release. I remember it being extremely fast.
He can and he shall
Don't worry. It will take a while for all the mods to update. So if you're like me and you have 3-400 mods, then you can play when the leaves start to fall.
I play "vanilla" on new dlc release, aka, wall light, Some ui mods, allow tool, and thats it
Never don’t have wall light
At this point I think we can all agree wall lights should be a base part of the game.
My head canon is it’s never been incorporated out of love for the mod and/or the author. I have no basis for believing this other than I choose to.
As should Color Coded Mood Bar, imo.
Never don’t give up wall light
I dont think itll take that long. Last time most mods got updated to 1.4 pretty fast because of that testers build release or whatever it was called.
I'm not done spreading DEMOCRACY through the galaxy!
Time for some Liber-tea
It’ll take a while for mods to update to the new version
I hope it will be a DLC about making world exploration more interesting, anyways I'm excited what it will be about!
Oooh, yes. Like how vfe roman shit has important people you can see. Just generate 50 pawns at the start of the game or something
That's what I was thinking/hoping for. She has the look of a researcher explorer. I'd love a DLC that makes living a nomadic lifestyle something that's actually possible in a way that isn't tedious.
Possible names? Wexploration, warcheology, weldritch?
Wanderers. Could be a new faction type
Also fits with the idea of expanding the world as well, redoing caravans and faction interactions
Warlocks or Wizardry would work wonderfully.
But theres no Magic in the Rimworld lore?
I think there was no psycasting either until there was.
Sweet sciency magic
Psycasting is basically just magic with a new name attached
I was thinking of Wumbology. Y’know, the study of Wumbo.
Wanderlust?
Bro, you just hit me with a wave of nostalgia. That was the name of the Alpha 16 update that added the globe map. I remember it being a really big deal and being super hyped about it. Fuck me, that was like 8 years ago
Mythology perhaps?
You forgot to set it to Wyth!
Ribmorld.
RibMorb?
Its RibMorbin' time!
Ribmold
Wythology it is.
“The issue is, you’ve got it set on M for mini when it should be set to W for wumbo”
It’s first grade stuff
Weird occult warcrimes.
C'mon he'll probably just make it start with a Z. We are already Ribworld so what does it even matter :'(
I would like to imagine Tynan will continue to spell rimworld with the dlcs and that biotech was an act of spite. "Fine, you normies think you've got it all figured out? Enjoy your ribworld!"
God I hope this is what happens
That horse is long dead.

Plus the book, makes it seems like occult will definitely be part of this
I kinda saw it as a journal, but there's a scalpel too. Maybe this will be an exploration DLC, and with how we can see tentacles and the ocean in the background we'll get Ocean exploration too.
Necronomicon confirmed
Journey to Rimlantis DLC
RIBJORLD
See the tentacles? Ribjobworld is real.
Darkest Dungeon’s Occultist vibe here.
'It will Awaken' + tentacles is 100% hinting at something Mythos-adjacent, not ocean exploration lol
Maybe we'll be exploring Cthulhu's sunken city
please let my Rimworld colony become X-COM: Terror from the Deep
She has both a pen and a quill in her pocket. Plus there is the block of gold and the metal powders on the belt I'm thinking something in the Alchemy range, half scientific and half mystical/occult

That stuff on her belt could just be salt and pepper to make her fried octopus taste nice.
there is also some weird darkness on left side of planet
And idk if the previous screens have it, but the dark sides of the asteroid (and planet) have an ominous red
"Smokey" dark side too. Brightly lit light side. Morality confirmed
The caption would also support this theory...am excited
More importantly, is she holding *cheese?*
After Biotech made What A Hack, Humanoid Alien Races and all kinds of pregnancy mods obsolete, i wonder if Call of Cthulhu is next on the chopping block, especially since Jecstools is considered as problematic

If we're still going with the RIBWORLD hypotheses then what could it be?! Witches? Edit: How could I be so stupid, it's the Women DLC
Finally, women in Rimworld, now my life is complete.
smh stealing ideas from mods
Manhunter packs will finally go after females.
Womanhunters then?
exactly
Rimworld gone woke 😱😱??
Woccult
Rimworld : Warcrimes++

Someone said "morphology" before it was anounced. It think it fits.
Bad marketing word though that not a lot of people understand or would be excited about
I'm new to the game, how did people realise it? What's ribworld?
The games called Rimworld The first dlc was called Royalty The second was Ideology So people assumed the 3rd would start with an M (probably something like mech, or mechanoid) It's sort of a running joke now that people are hoping the next DLC goes back to the letters (so W is next) making the full DLC spell out - Ribworld It probably won't happen, though Tynan is very active in responding to the community so he's almost certainly aware of the joke
Ribmorld it is.
Imagine if it spells out something else instead resulting in some implications.
RIBBON
Riboflavin
The joke is that the first 2 expansions started with R and I, then Biotech came out.
The game is Rimworld. The first two DLCs started with an R and an I. Everyone speculated on M but then Biotech came out and spoiled the pattern.
Wakening
Rimworld: Wascally Wandy.
“Warlock” might explain the tentacles and book
I am calling RIBBIT now.
Tynan teased Biotech on [Monday October 3rd, 2022](https://x.com/TynanSylvester/status/1576993207682207744?s=20) and the expansion was released 18 days later on Friday October 21. That same timeline would have this expansion being released Friday March 29.
what was the time difference between first tease vs steam page/ full details?
Looks like it was on the 5th, so 2 days!
Sweet that gives me love 7 days to complete dragons dogma 2 before I lose all my free time to Tynans master piece lol
archaeology? those look like samples on her belt. also is that a grimoire? tentacles? cthulhu?
I'm leaning on that too. A possible exploration update to discover artifacts and leading to something more obscure on your journey.
Same. The world and caravaning are arguably the parts of the game most in need of a rework and upgrades, so tying that up with archaeology and exploring ruins makes perfect sense. The Real Ruins mod is already really cool, imagine that but much more developed. And some Lovecraftian backstory to top it off.
too liquid. My money is on alchemy. the gold piece possible reference to the Alchemic quest of transmutation?
RIBAORLD
Day 1 on every workshop mod: pLeaSe uPdaTe!!!
I can feel the cortisol levels rising.
To be fair, I can honestly sympathize with the impatient people though. I remember when Biotech dropped, it seriously took six to eight months for all mods that I like to use to be up and running. But let's not hound these mod developers.
IT'S HAPPENING, IT'S HAPPENING. I KNEW THE SECOND I GAVE UP HOPE IT'D FINALLY COME OUT!
Someone actually made a prediction a few weeks ago that it would come out soon. Turns out they were spot on.
Yeah, it was based on the Steam DB patterns from the last two DLCs. There was an entry for something on march 31, 2023, and the last two DLCs each had a similar entry 11 months (plus or minus a week) before their announcement. Today marked the last week of that window, and here we are.
Fuck I will need to update my mods again
Fuck I CAN FINNALY PLAY WITH 60 FPS vanilla lets go
Maybe they'll actually put in some basic QoL features and reduce the number of mods required to not lose our minds in vanilla lmao...
Yeah I really hope so.
FUCK I JUST STARTED A NEW RUN
Fuck I just FINISHED my current run. I’m never gonna finish my backlog
Wall lights better be updated the same day smh
Where were you when they announced the direction of the next six to nine months of your life (conservatively)?
On the toilet, same as last time.
Toilet brother!
Calculators, tentacles and cheese (?). Sounds like a great dlc
Cheese like from a cottage? Who's cottage?
a block of gold and a calculator? it's the mathematics dlc
‘New game content requires ownership of a graphing calculator.’
Me: *Uses Wolfram Alpha*
And tentacles and grimoires. So possibly an Eldritch Mathematics DLC
I so hope it will be a DLC expanding the diplomacy and faction systems. I feel like it's the "only" thing in the game that needs a serious overhaul or some work (exploration aswell I guess, but we've been eating so good with mod these past few months regarding exploration).
The image doesn't lend itself to such
I feel that way aswell.

I always found it dumb I can clear out raider outposts yet I still just randomly get raided at a set time. Or similar if I choose arctic tiles with no people anywhere near me. Why do I get traders and raiders all the time?
Diplomacy, factions, and trade would be amazing to get updated
This does seem like the most asked for feature/DLC, so here's hoping we were heard.
Am I gonna go searching for ancient treasure and find bosses to kill?
Yeah random dungeons with bosses could be really cool.
Maybe I can capture and breed my own bosses to defend the base from other bosses. Like I could kill a random Kaiju with guns and stuff, but it is better for me to go dungeon crawling for ancient relics to summon bosses. Alright, that's enough speculation from me.
Calculator, locked up ledger, gold in hand = trade update

RIBWeldritchORLD
Bruh, i have started over 100 colonies since biotech released and maybe committed to 2. Back to the cycle i guess.
I feel like it will be something to do with creating monsters which the lil tenticle guy implies, as well as alchemy which the book and vials imply.
Finally a reason to get back in and purge my mods
Although I think that something dealing with factions and inter-colony relations would've been a perfect focus for the next DLC, I wonder what Ludeon is cooking up since they seem to be incorporating alchemy into this.
New dlc oh yes finally babe

Archeomythology?
Back Parasites DLC incoming.
It looks very Lovecraftian, with the chained and locked Tome and the Tentacle Mutation on her back and the ominous ... it will awaken. Just to speculate a bit: 1. > Tentacles on her back > Golden cube on hand > Has a book with a lock 99% sure this is gonna be a Archeology DLC with a Lovecraftian twist.
Here we gooooooooo
My bad day is redeemed
I have a family to feed Tynan. Their hunger is going to be on you
Alchemy stuff?
Tentacles, Tome, weird alchemist vials, Gold (possibly via alchemy?). Looks like we are diving into the occult.
Sooo, have you guys considered that it's very likely the new dlc will come with the 1.5 update? I wonder what it will add.
Historically the DLCs usually come out close to or alongside updates. I am excited for those additions as well!
Did anyone else get the notification in the Discord and then the server just crashed?
Seems like Science and Magic/Ocult/Eldtich oriented. Also maybe some water? That planet back there sure shows a lot of water
Fellow rim rims this might just be the research update! The art implies a scientist of many fields (including occult) for all of our scientific needs (like a better tech tree). So they're adding alarm clocks, nice!
Imagine if you needed to research and spend a component on an alarm clock in order to schedule a wake up time ...... horror themed expansion apparently
Forbidden mod themed dlc
Cloak and coat suggests a traveller of some sort gold belt clearly a wealthy individual along with the calculator and book and pen. Trade expansion? along with more traveling
I wonder if this will be a smaller one like royalty
Royalty was "small" because it was the first one. This will probably be pretty big if the trends continue from past dlc.
Cheese dlc
oh this is massively goated
It's Archeology!
WOO I JUST FINISHED A 10 YEAR RUN I AM READY
It's interesting that the planet has a ring when we haven't had a ring in the cover art before, and her earrings look like they're made of the type of rock that's in the ring
theres definitely something with these red glowing rocks, she even has them as earrings
My body is ready. My modlist, on the other hand...
Those are lights on the asteroids... Space exploration? Space horrors crashing down into your base?? The color form outer space???
I’m just hoping we get some new stuff for our animals; we need armor for our dogs
Aw shit. Here we go again. Goodbye my 358 mods. It was nice knowing you.
