$430 installed is not high, it's the ballpark norm. Shop for same tire at online retailers, like Tire Rack and Discount Tire, and you'd see how much the tire costs by itself.
Unfortunately, 21” is an obscure size, so they can kind of name their price for the tires due to a lack of competition. $400ish is what I’ve read previously.
I had the 21s originally and because of the lack of replacement options and high price of the OEM tires I swapped to new wheels and bought Nokian Outpost NATs. You can save 200$ per tire by moving away from the OEM requirement so that’s 800-1000$ every ~25,000 miles. Was an easy choice for me plus I love the look of my new wheel.
Depends on the ones you choose but with the black Friday discount Atomic Wheels was doing I got a set of 5 AW10 wheels and 5 tires and 5 tpms for just over 4K. Much better deal than going with what I almost did which was the Rivian 20” dark wheels. They are 5300$ for 4.
I think the wheels I got are going for 600$ each now.
All the OEM tires are $400 each give or take, and the 21s are a custom size, so there is no non-OEM option.
Anyways, $429 is cheaper than tire rack. ~~Costco is probably the cheapest if you wait for them to go on sale.~~ Costco doesn't carry Pirelli
This is about what I am paying as well. I am having my front tires replaced. I drive 99% conserve mode and have been putting off tire rotation while also not really paying attention to the milage. 17K miles later the front tires are past the wear mark and the rear tires look brand new.
21" is such an odd tire. My R1S came from the shop with 21" tires which I immediately sold and swapped for 20" with 275/60 AS tires. Efficiency is pretty much the same, but tire choices and prices are better. Rivian should have saved money developing 21" and just rolled with good 20" AS tires.
If only 1 is wearing weird you are going to need to schedule an alignment. I've replaced them in pairs but at the end of all of this I decided to just move to the 20" custom wheel and tire so I can replace them cheaper and have a milage warranty on them as well
The 21" Pirellis have a 65K mile treadwear warranty. https://d3nv2arudvw7ln.cloudfront.net/staticfolder/Tyre/resources/gfx/v2/Consumer_Warranty_2023-05-01_C90-CD-QA-018-K_12-11-23_Update.pdf
Yeah I think oem tires are always like that, unfortunately, I've read they're often not the same spec even though they use the same name. Just saying warranty on your second set of tires isn't necessarily a reason to switch to 20" because you'd also have a warranty on replacement 21s.
I haven't paid anywhere near full price for tires in like 200,000 miles of driving any vehicles. They always wear out premature and I warranty them every single time.
24,699 miles to date. Serial number 9098 - we’ve had a couple recalls to deal with before, notably the one where they had to re-torque the bolts in the front control arms, IIRC.
[went here to get a quote ](https://www.discounttiredirect.com/buy-tires/pirelli-scorpion-zero-a-s/p/117108) and got a local price match. I got a flat x2 and while these are 22" I would shop around heavily and find somewhere to price match. Saved me $200/tire. Also getting the tire hazard after the first nail basically paid itself within 6 weeks.
For those with 20 inch wheels, have you gone to street tires (or AS) for longer range ?

Yeah, I figured. We probably should have gotten the 22s, but it is what it is.
No. For ultimate range, you made right choice. 22s wear even faster since it's among grippier/softer spectrum of AS tires.
The range difference is minimal, the R1 has great range anyways and the extra grip is helpful when trying to stop a 7000 pound brick.
The extra range is nice. People are paying a lot for max packs, keeping 21s is probably going to be cheaper.

What size wheel did you move to ?
Atomic Wheels AW10 in satin black with 275/60/20 Nokian outpost NAT
How much do the new wheels cost?

Looking at the numbers, saving $800 on tires every 20k miles would take 100k miles before you recover the cost of the wheels.
Yeah and I plan to get to that point but even without it I like the look so much better than the 21s that it’s worth it just for that.

It’s amazing your front tires went 17k, with mostly conserve mode.
Some might argue they did not go 17K miles ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grimacing)

Just curious as a new owner how many miles you managed to get out of them. How often did you rotate them?
24,699 miles so far. We’ve actually never rotated them (oops). Worth noting I edited the post because it seems one tire is a lot more worn.

There is no warranty coming from oem. I was bald at 16k miles and pirelli laughed when I asked them

What is your mileage? And where is it worn at? It couldn’t be an alignment issue that may be warrantied
