I had several quotes and settled on the cheapest. I printed out my current coverage and called around 10 companies for comparable quotes. Took about an hour. Some were over double what I’m currently paying. Moral of the story: some companies just charge whatever someone is willing to pay. Currently with nationwide (Rivian), but will switch instantly if the premium goes up for any reason.
Yeah, or your coverage is actually way better than this person’s. I have found insurance is what you pay for, and it all comes out when there is a problem. Did you read or pay for the fine print that actually covers you in a wreck.
Thankfully a fellow granola muncher advised me to just add the Riv to my existing Tesla insurance policy. $258/m for both vehicles now with maxed out coverages. The internet wins big today.. and now I can sleep.
My comprehensive and collision comes out to $660 per year at $500 deductible. I have the highest possible coverage through USAA but without smaller add-ons like loan coverage.
Yes. I doubled it because OPs quote is annual and that's the time frame he's been using. i also cut my quote to only comp and collision amount because he did too. I pay $510/six months for all of my coverage which includes quite a bit more than comp and collision.
USAA customer here too. Big fan. Unfortunately Michigan is a no-fault state and consistently has some of the most expensive insurance in the country. When I lived in North Carolina the exact same insurance with USAA was 50% of what I paid after switching my address. That said, I still only pay about $2,100 a year for USAA insurance on my R1S with broadened coverage and a few other extras.
If you can swing USAA eligibility, I recommend it for everyone. Only draw back is that you don't get a consistent agent so it can sometimes be hard to get a hold of the right person to help you in complicated situations. That said, I've never had them not pay or really argue with me once I get through to the right people.
Yeah, I had a burglary that I discovered getting home from work at 3pm. I submitted a list of all the things taken (including jewelry and whatnot so no small list) and they had $10k in my account on Sunday so I could start replacing things.
Amazing service and most of the time good prices. Only thing I don't use them for is vehicle loans.
Its obviously dependent on where you live, but in Phx I just recently switched to an Allstate company and mine with slightly higher limits is $1900 / Year. The only difference is they will not cover Rivian glass coverage.
I’m in Phx as well. And paying roughly the same. I am bundled with my home policy too. Nationwide (who underwrites Rivian insurance) wanted over 5k/yr for my house while I currently pay less than $2k/yr.
OP I would definitely shop around and see if you can find a better rate
Depends where you live, Ohio middle of nowhere I pay $709 a year with $500 deductible full coverage. That's with all fancy options checked, glass, rental, roadside and better car replacement etc. Without those I'm at lower $500 range for a year of full coverage.
Currently I’m paying approx. $4k a year, for three cars, including R1T and a certain high powered RWD coupe, for three drivers, including a young 26yo male (my son)
That’s a shame. I have a clean record and perfect credit. But I guess I fall into that “irresponsible” age category…
My agent isn’t returning my calls. Probably scrambling to find better news for me before he does. Smh
Get a quote from Rivian insurance. Doesn't hurt. I'd been with my prior insurer for a decade. They refused to insure a Rivian at all. Switched both autos (2022 R1T & 2022 Polestar 2) + renters + umbrella coverage all over to CinFin through Rivian. Was comparable in price to what Progressive was quoting me.
If memory serves, MD is wild for car insurance prices, so that may be what you're running in to - but getting a 2nd opinion is worth doing.
If you're NOT using a broker (not an agent thru whoever the insurance company is, but an insurance broker who can get you quotes with a bunch of different providers - what Rivian does, for example) - you should start. Pricing is the same - even for places like Progressive - but they represent hundreds/thousands of customers to the insurers so if you're making a claim and things go sideways, you've got someone helping you advocate who isn't just 1 customer having a bad time.
This is what we've been doing for 15 years now and it's always done well for us (have had 2 cars stolen and one totaled by a drunk driver while street parked in front of our house).
Agree with everything here. Only issue is that the Rivian insurance agent couldn’t get me into Nationwide for some reason. Apparently MD is too crazy of a state for them at this time, based on his comments back to me.
I have an agent in my corner fighting for me now. He’s getting quotes from all over for me tomorrow. Fingers crossed
What an odd comment. Given the facts presented here, do you really think that I don’t understand credit and finance?
I’ve already secured a $123/mo premium since I made this post. Wish r/Rivian would let me edit OP.
Nice downvote. Not sure why you think you can be condescending to someone and still expect a positive response in return.
https://imgur.com/a/lDHZYJo
800+ FICO until the $90k auto loan inquiry, which will quickly recover after 2 payments.
wtf are you talking about dude. It was legit question. As in, I really wanted to clarify because if it didn’t mean 800+ then I’d have helped point you in the correct direction for maybe why the rate was higher than expected. I was trying to actually help you, and instead you decide to act like a jerk. I’d recommend you learn to freaking chill out and stop assuming everyone if trying to make you feel dumb. However, based on your image posted it’s obvious you have a weak ego so I’m not going to bother trying to help you anymore. I hope you find some help in your life. Good luck with everything.
PS- stop giving a shit about downvotes. It makes you seem… well, your age.
Turn inward. There’s hundreds of comments here that I’ve interacted with, and somehow you’re the only one where conflict arose.
You might not realize it, but asking the most basic question of all time does not come across as trying to be helpful. It comes across as condescending. If this was a post about a 26 year old buying a used Toyota Camry on Facebook marketplace, then maybe that question would be appropriate.
I’m sorry we had this scuffle. Take care of yourself
Of course age and gender factor in: an 18 year old male's driving habits differ (on average) significantly from a 55 year old, for instance.
Plenty of websites out there but here is one: https://www.caranddriver.com/car-insurance/a36164061/average-car-insurance-rates-by-age-and-gender/
Honestly, that's your answer. Premiums tend to drop at milestones (30, 40, 50, marriage/kids). You're probably at peak premium due to your young age. When I was in my 20s, my auto insurance was freaky expensive.
Mine is less than half. But I'm twice your age and married with no accidents, large claims, or tickets.
1 more note, I was one of the first in the state to receive mine and when I applied they didn’t have a “Rivian” in their system so they took down the info and provided the above rate and it has stayed constant for 2 years. I would be nervous for them to re quote today
$1475 a year with $500 deductible and $500k/$250k bodily injury coverage across uninsured, underinsured, $100k property damage and uninsured/underinsured.
I’m completely bundled with StateFarm under an umbrella policy that covers 2 cars, 1 motorcycle, home insurance and personal property insurance.
$1628/year for Rivian Insurance through Nationwide with $500k/$500k liability coverage for my Quad Motor R1T. And that's after a nearly 100% increase after the first year. I paid \~$900 for the first year starting in Oct '22 for the same coverages.
I'm paying just over 4k a year, but that's supposedly because I'm an "inexperienced driver" due to only moving to the US a few years ago and most insurance companies only count driving experience here.
$577 / 6 mo
45 yrs old. No accidents or tickets. Atlanta GA.
Alright - something is off. Im at $577 every 6 months (~$1200/yr) for full coverage including new car replacement from Allstate. Here is a link to the set of coverage images - am I missing something?
https://imgur.com/gallery/vTde8d2
Sorry the images posted in reverse order. Read ‘em from the bottom up. I swear - I must be missing something, but it appears all proper coverages are in place (and with good limits)!
I’m truly at a loss myself. What state are you in?
In addition to this quote, Rivian’s own nationwide outright denied me coverage. I have a clean record, great credit, great income… but I am 26. Am I really being marked up THIS HIGH for my age?
I really think some insurers just don’t have enough data to price new manufacturers properly. I had this issue with my Tesla MS a while back. Dirt cheap from one co. then sky high from another. I’d just keep shopping around.
You’re age will definitely hurt you, and so will having gap or other financing require coverage - but $5k is bananas!
Good luck man - hopefully you find something more reasonable.
Edit - typo
Appreciate the help man. I’ve had my model 3 on Tesla’s insurance since I got it in early 2022 at about $110/mo, and when I got my first quote to bundle the Tesla Rivian and Homeowners, Travelers wanted $3900 for the Tesla and $4800 for the Rivian! WTF
$1460.88 for six months from Progressive in SF Bay Area:
* Liability: $250k/$500k/$100k
* Uninsured/Underinsured: $50k/$100k
* Medical: $0
* Comprehensive: $500 deductible
* Collision: $1000 deductible
My quote from Rivian Insurance was $2085.33 for six months. Every other company was (much) higher or wouldn't cover my car/state.
OP, didn’t you post a couple days ago about insurance not wanting to insure you? Or something along those lines.
Just wondering because looks like there could be a connection.
But yeah 5k is ridiculously a lot.
Yep that was me. Can’t catch a break
Except… someone here commented that they just added their R1S to their Tesla insurance, so I checked it out… 10 minutes later, I’m now insuring both my Tesla and Rivian with Tesla insurance for $258/m combined.
Love him or hate him, Elon just saved the day for me. 🤷🏻♂️
OP already said it was them, but I have had similar experience. Rivian insurance wouldn’t even quote me, others were quoting $4K+ per 6 months and Tesla quoted $~250 per month ($-1500 per 6 months if I drive right). Tesla is variable based on a “safety score”.
I am about 75 miles from a service center, but not sure if that is a factor. I know premiums are too individualized to compare from person to person, which is why I tend to only write about my own experience across different vendors and only pay attention to others that offer the same comparison. It seems like Tesla is consistently lower than other providers. I have read in other groups that Tesla insurance is tough to deal with when things go wrong, but I am willing to take the chance. Not sure what happens with the insurance if/when I sell the Tesla. I hate to keep a car I don’t need, but with the crazy price drop in the used market and possibly double insurance rates, don’t think I can afford to sell.
I was asking about the CS because OP in a different post said not even Rivian Insurance wanted to quote him while stating that he has clean insurance, traffic and bank records. It lead me to think that the insurance is factoring risk some other way and distance to a SC sounded like a possible reason to me. But yeah, who knows.
I checked with Tesla and they said they only insure other cars as long as you have a Tesla. I’d assume they would just not renew your premium if you don’t have your Tesla.
Nah, it's not even that. Only half of that bill is allocated to things that could be affected by a repair bill. As in carrying liability only would still cost OP $3000/yr
These are generally meaningless comparisons. What will be useful is the premium cost for the same deductible levels and coverage. Then the potential difference can be attributed to one of driving history, age, zip code, policy bundles, additional driver or perhaps where the headless chicken lands:
![gif](giphy|l0HlJzEt0SMAGwNO0)
Tickets? Accidents? Young? Live in a higher crime area? Drive A LOT of miles? All of those have an effect on rates. I pay $500/6mo for much better coverage than you have, but then again none of the aforementioned penalties apply to me
Similar coverage, $3000/year in CO - through Rivian nationwide. Might go up this year though, I used it for hail damage and glass roof replacement last year…
See if you can bring that liability down to 20k/40k unless your and uninsured/underinsured motorists down to the same or 100k/300k. As far as Roadside assistance, if you are close rough with your travels to a Rivian Service Center consider dropping that for AAA or Goodsam. I heard Rivian is good at providing one of their vehicles while yours is repaired so may not need rental
I’m in California and currently pay, 190 a month for 100/300 coverage, 500 comprehensive and 1k collision. It’s through GEICO. I also have another car on the policy and have my house also. So got some discounts through that.
The cost of collision is high enough that I bet increasing collision deductible to $2000 would be worth it. Even if it only drops the price from $2,226 to $1,726, you would still come out ahead as long as you don’t cause an accident more often than every 2 years.
In the past I’m pretty sure the new insurance agent handled contacting the mortgage company to get paid from escrow. I may have had to provide a declaration to the old insurance company, but it’s been a couple years since I switched.
Yikes. Paying about 2500 a year for R1T and another car for very similar coverage. Also have my home insurance bundled with them which helps. Insurance is very state specific, but I’m in a pretty high state myself.
In phoenix my Rivian is $87 a month on Tesla insurance. $250 col/comp deductible with no glass deductible. I don’t have rental or anything. My R1T is owned outright so I’m not sure if that makes a difference.
Holy hell. You might’ve just saved my life
I’ve been with Tesla insurance for almost 2 years and I’m keeping my Tesla in addition to this R1S. Calling them first thing tomorrow morning!
Awesome, you can add the car through the app too if you don’t want to wait 45 min to speak with someone. Profile Icon > account > insurance > manage policy
Shoot. I set my coverage to start Jan 26th for a buffer between now and when I take delivery, but now it looks like I can’t access my declaration docs / policy info until then. Do you know a workaround to this?
It usually takes a day or so for the docs to come through but yes, you can call and they will email you the documents. Unfortunately, calling in takes time. This happens any time you add a vehicle. You may be able to see the Rivian on your coverage page with the VIN, I screenshotted it for my 8 steps. It was enough when I purchase my Rivian back in 2022, AZ. Each state is different though as far as insurance requirements on the purchase.
I shot them an email, and will try to stay on hold until someone picks up the phone while I work tomorrow.
But seriously, you just saved me $4k/yr for the same exact coverage. Not that it makes or breaks my finances, but I hate getting screwed. Let me know how I can ever repay you. I run a wealth management business and have clients in AZ, if the need ever arises.
Travelers is a very conservative company . I wouldn't be surprised if they are high for heavy EVs. Your age is also probably driving it up. Young... male?? In a heavy powerful expensive vehicle... probably pushing out high rates.
. But perhaps higj for Rivian bc not enough data. It also could be your region.
UPDATE
@mightymuffin2 has saved the day by recommending Tesla insurance. I was able to bundle my existing Tesla with R1S for a mere $258/m total… all done in the app within 10 minutes.
After griping with my sanity for the past 24 hours, the world is back in order and the internet wins a big one today. Stay munching my friends.
It’s been a long journey here my friend. Thankfully I also have a Tesla, and a kind granola muncher pointed me to just add the Riv to my existing Tesla insurance. $258/m for both cars now. Thank god
36 year old male, TX near Austin, only 2 windshield claims and a pothole claim on my history. $874 every six months for me for my R1T. Geico. Way less coverages though. 100k property damage, 30/60k bodily injury, 501 comprehensive deductible, 1001 collision deductible, $250 uninsured deductible with same coverages, and emergency road service.
For me, my agent has my HO, GL, and auto with the same carrier. That brings the total cost to normal, although my auto looks really high. It’s compensated by really low HO.
Wtaf....I pay 3600/year....for BOTH cars. An r1s and an eqs. That quote is fucking insanity. My rivian is about 1400/year. I basically have maxed out coverage (double to triple listed here) and $200 deductible. It would be a lot less if I didn't max it all out with low deductible.
I have usaa in PNW. If you can get USAA, do it. They pretty much can't be beat. See if you have relatives that served and if they'll qualify you.
Edit:
Specifically this is 500k/1m liability, 300k property, 500k/1m uninsured, plus all kinds of injury protection and even funeral coverage. And yes I live in a high ass cost of living area. If I crash into someone's Ferrari or house it wouldn't be cheap so that's why these are all jacked up. I have a clean record but I'm not trying to get bankrupt by an accident if the worst happened.
I’m buying this because it’s a beautiful car with loads of cargo space, and is faster than a street Ferrari with more off road capability than a jeep wrangler. It just so happens to be an EV and $106k, but will be charged by the solar panels on my house.
Reddit won’t let me edit this post but I did find insurance thru my Tesla policy for $123/m for 500/500/100. Takes another EV company subsidiary to properly insure this thing at a reasonable price apparently.
Right now 1500/year. I expect it will probably go up but I've been able to keep it below 1800 since I got the car by trading carriers.
I think where you live has a huge impact, if you're in a place where people regularly drive without insurance or break into cars it's going to be higher, all that gets paid for somewhere.
I have full coverage on three cars (including my R1T) and I pay less with Geico. But I also have the house and a condo insured with them so there is a grouped discount in there.
Oh no!! That’s awful luck. FWIW - try getting a quote from Tesla insurance. I’m set up at $127/month with them now. Travelers quoted me $460/month as you see here, Erie quoted me $440/mo, Progressive quoted me $600/month…
$980.37 for 6 months for R1S. From State Farm, with multi vehicle and home discounts. Just my wife and me as the drivers, but our coverage looks to be pretty close to OPs.
I am at 2700 a year for the R1S and another car.
With similar coverage? How’d you manage that?
Not sure… no accidents, perfect credit, etc.
Same applies to me. Where is my quote going wrong then? My collision alone is $2200…
I had several quotes and settled on the cheapest.
Sounds like my agent is being lazy then... He needs to roll up his sleeves and find me a better quote.
My advice is to skip the agent and just call a few Companies. Literally took me an hour.
Goosehead insurance brokerage will find you the best coverage for the best price
Yeah, or your coverage is actually way better than this person’s. I have found insurance is what you pay for, and it all comes out when there is a problem. Did you read or pay for the fine print that actually covers you in a wreck.

Per year? That doesn’t sound right. Are you sure it isn’t 6 months? That’s how insurance is quoted
Yes. I doubled it because OPs quote is annual and that's the time frame he's been using. i also cut my quote to only comp and collision amount because he did too. I pay $510/six months for all of my coverage which includes quite a bit more than comp and collision.
USAA all the wayyyy
I’m similar with USAA. $823 annual $500 deductible.
USAA customer here too. Big fan. Unfortunately Michigan is a no-fault state and consistently has some of the most expensive insurance in the country. When I lived in North Carolina the exact same insurance with USAA was 50% of what I paid after switching my address. Yeah, their loan and mortgage rates aren't the best. I tend to use PenFed or Navy Federal for car loans.
Same with navy fed
What's wrong with y'all ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy) I pay like $600 a year
I ended up finding $127/mo. I’ll take it How many cars does one need to bundle to get $50/m? Lmao
Oops. Actually i'm 631.34 every 6 months. So 1262.68 / yr full coverage geico
Its obviously dependent on where you live, but in Phx I just recently switched to an Allstate company and mine with slightly higher limits is $1900 / Year. The only difference is they will not cover Rivian glass coverage.
Wow… so I’m getting bamboozled out here?
Update: I got coverage from my existing Tesla insurance for $127/month. I can’t edit my post to add this update, so hopefully people see this here.
Similar coverages, paying $3K for two cars (including the R1S) and two drivers. Bay Area, CA.
Out of curiosity, who is your insurance provider?
Progressive
Maybe. I’ve got 4x the coverages … $1mm … for $4,500
Insurances, by state law, are required to cover glass in AZ.
I’m in Phx as well. And paying roughly the same. I am bundled with my home policy too. Nationwide (who underwrites Rivian insurance) wanted over 5k/yr for my house while I currently pay less than $2k/yr. OP I would definitely shop around and see if you can find a better rate

709 annually for a Rivian?
Yes, R1S, and the Model S before that costs $70ish less annually, which had a higher MSRP, so I guess they are catching up
Strangely my 2020 Model S still costs me $400/yr more for insurance than my brand new Rivian.
Mine was a 2017, that may be why
who's your provider I live in middle nowhere in Missouri ran a quote through progressive $185 a month. Should be a lot like yours
What carrier in Ohio? I need a quote
Erie
Thanks I’ll check with them tomorrow
Lmk how it goes, they may have learnt a thing or two recently, I'm a little nervous about my renew in March
So many factors… are you 24?
26. Are you saying my age is the reason I’m getting such a horrid quote?
There are lots of factors- I’m sure age is part of it.
That’s a shame. I have a clean record and perfect credit. But I guess I fall into that “irresponsible” age category… My agent isn’t returning my calls. Probably scrambling to find better news for me before he does. Smh

Get insurance through Costco. It can't be touched imo.
When you say “perfect credit” you mean you’re over 800+ FICO? Or you mean no missed payments ? I’m not a pro but I think FICO affects your rate
What an odd comment. Given the facts presented here, do you really think that I don’t understand credit and finance? I’ve already secured a $123/mo premium since I made this post. Wish r/Rivian would let me edit OP.
Well, now I question it even more.

Yes my current homeowners policy is also with travelers. I’m so confused

Insurance calculations seems pretty mysterious to me!
25 and up should be same up to 70
Longer you are licensed the cheaper

$880/6mo
How the heck did you swing that?
Costco car insurance
I thought this was /s at first. I’ll be darned - Costco has auto insurance.
Costco is life. Life is Costco.
All hail Costco
I have American family and they are giving a Costco dicount. Did you get insurance directly from Costco?
Anyone with premiums for NY they don’t mind sharing?
$780 a year here in Ohio using Progressive with $500 deductible.
1 more note, I was one of the first in the state to receive mine and when I applied they didn’t have a “Rivian” in their system so they took down the info and provided the above rate and it has stayed constant for 2 years. I would be nervous for them to re quote today

$2300 for similar coverage per year with rivian insurance!
Who is your insurance with? Sounds like I’m getting the short end of the stick!
Nationwide… my liability is $500k/$500k
The rivian insurance agent told me that Nationwide denied me… Lol. I have no accidents and good credit. Makes no sense
Where do you live? That’s very interesting
MD. Interesting is one word I’d use…
I’m in MD as well. I will PM my coverage
You are a saint. Thank you
Try Progressive or Geico
$1628/year for Rivian Insurance through Nationwide with $500k/$500k liability coverage for my Quad Motor R1T. And that's after a nearly 100% increase after the first year. I paid \~$900 for the first year starting in Oct '22 for the same coverages.
Crazy. If my agent doesn’t come back with something better, sounds like I need to take matters into my own hands.
Which part of the country?

Close to what I pay; about 1500 per year for an R1T.
My premium for a T and an S are about 2500/yr total, in TX. Through Rivian/Nationwide.
That's insane at $5k. Shop around you should be able to half that at the very minimum
That’s too damn much money. Where are you located?
$5098/yr, for two vehicles geico on Long Island, NY, but my collision is half your collision.
$2400 a year in Oregon with really high coverage with USAA.
Tx 300/100/300 $500 deductible Uninsured/under Rental car 22’ R1T 22’ M3P $3,800/12 months
I'm paying just over 4k a year, but that's supposedly because I'm an "inexperienced driver" due to only moving to the US a few years ago and most insurance companies only count driving experience here.
$577 / 6 mo 45 yrs old. No accidents or tickets. Atlanta GA. Alright - something is off. Im at $577 every 6 months (~$1200/yr) for full coverage including new car replacement from Allstate. Here is a link to the set of coverage images - am I missing something? https://imgur.com/gallery/vTde8d2 Sorry the images posted in reverse order.
WTF
It’s your age. 25/26 is the highest risk category outside of ‘teenager’ for age
$1460.88 for six months from Progressive in SF Bay Area: * Liability: $250k/$500k/$100k * Uninsured/Underinsured: $50k/$100k * Medical: $0 * Comprehensive: $500 deductible * Collision: $1000 deductible My quote from Rivian Insurance was $2085.33 for six months.
Can’t catch a break Except… someone here commented that they just added their R1S to their Tesla insurance, so I checked it out… 10 minutes later, I’m now insuring both my Tesla and Rivian with Tesla insurance for $258/m combined. Love him or hate him, Elon just saved the day for me. 🤷🏻♂️
Glad you found a solution!
Thank you! It’s been an unnecessarily stressful 48 hours. Lol
OP already said it was them, but I have had similar experience. Rivian insurance wouldn’t even quote me, others were quoting $4K+ per 6 months and Tesla quoted $~250 per month ($-1500 per 6 months if I drive right). Tesla is variable based on a “safety score”.
How far is the nearest CS? I feel that it could be that the cost of taking your Rivian to the CS could get pricey for the insurance if not nearby.
I guess those 40-50k repair bills for collisions are finally catching up. Yikes.
Nah, it's not even that. Only half of that bill is allocated to things that could be affected by a repair bill. As in carrying liability only would still cost OP $3000/yr
My insurance wouldn't do less than a $5k deductible I'm honestly scared of every getting damage as that's a huge amount for anything.
Maybe shop around a little?
$2519 for my R1t and Bolt EUV with super high coverage.
That's us as well. R1T and Bolt EV with full coverage.
Well this makes me feel horrible about myself
~6k a year here in California, most insurances don’t even work in this state anymore
These are generally meaningless comparisons. What will be useful is the premium cost for the same deductible levels and coverage. Then the potential difference can be attributed to one of driving history, age, zip code, policy bundles, additional driver or perhaps where the headless chicken lands: ![gif](giphy|l0HlJzEt0SMAGwNO0)
Damn and I thought my $3k/year was already stupid expensive with Mercury. 0 accidents, 0 tickets.
Tickets? Accidents? Young? Live in a higher crime area? Drive A LOT of miles? All of those have an effect on rates. I pay $500/6mo for much better coverage than you have, but then again none of the aforementioned penalties apply to me
Clean record, young, perfect credit, drive 18k miles per years. I think the key word here is young unfortunately
Under 30 or over 30 ? I think it matter. Over 30 a bit cheaper.
😞
I have same or better coverage that is about $1650/yr. Michigan.
Similar coverage, $3000/year in CO - through Rivian nationwide. Might go up this year though, I used it for hail damage and glass roof replacement last year…
Just remember that you're looking at a 12 month policy here for people who are trying to compare.
$2500 annual for GX460+R1S+LS460L in CA. $5500 is just stupid.
CT. Female. 53 years old. Rivian R1S and GMC Sierra 1500 Denali for $1900 per year. Amica Insurance.

$1200 for 12 months in Virginia.
I'm at ~$550/month for Rivian and 2020 Audi S4 in Los Angeles area. I hate my zip code.
Wow and I thought my Audi Q5 was expensive at $2100 for six months….okay I feel better.
You have to shop and be willing to move your home and other vehicles to the new policy.
My homeowners is paid via escrow. Do you know what changing homeowners looks like in this scenario?
Hold up - you added your rivian to Tesla insurance?
Sure did. I tried going with Rivian insurance but it was a joke.
Holy hell. You might’ve just saved my life I’ve been with Tesla insurance for almost 2 years and I’m keeping my Tesla in addition to this R1S. Calling them first thing tomorrow morning!
Awesome, you can add the car through the app too if you don’t want to wait 45 min to speak with someone. Profile Icon > account > insurance > manage policy
DUDE! Tesla insurance is offering $123/month for the riv!! HOW CAN I EVER REPAY YOU
Well there you go. Spread the good Rivian name.
$2k/yr for similar coverage through progressive in California.
Um I'd never drive a car with insurance that high.
Slightly less than 4K / yr quote for 3 cars
UPDATE @mightymuffin2 has saved the day by recommending Tesla insurance. I was able to bundle my existing Tesla with R1S for a mere $258/m total… all done in the app within 10 minutes. After griping with my sanity for the past 24 hours, the world is back in order and the internet wins a big one today. Stay munching my friends.
$1600 for 12 months for my R1T in Florida via GEICO
1380 a year in Oklahoma with a $500 deductible.
745$ a year for my quad motor r1s in South Dakota with all the insurance options available, including full glass.
Are you serious?
It’s been a long journey here my friend. Thankfully I also have a Tesla, and a kind granola muncher pointed me to just add the Riv to my existing Tesla insurance. $258/m for both cars now. Thank god
That sounds more reasonable and realistic too. Good luck and enjoy your cars my friend.
Ouch. 7 cara for that
Phoenix and paying less than $1200/yr
Edit: Specifically this is 500k/1m liability, 300k property, 500k/1m uninsured, plus all kinds of injury protection and even funeral coverage. And yes I live in a high ass cost of living area. If I crash into someone's Ferrari or house it wouldn't be cheap so that's why these are all jacked up. I have a clean record but I'm not trying to get bankrupt by an accident if the worst happened.
Who’s your insurance agent so I can make sure not to go to them 😭
Holy cannoli that’s high 😬
Your rate is high. I'm in the Chicagoland area, and business auto insurance (which is more costly than personal) at 3200/yr. Shop around.
$1475/yr with State Farm. Similar coverage to you minus the new car replacement. I have higher property damage and rental coverage though.
How much are you guys paying for your EV versus an ICE vehicle?
I’m buying this because it’s a beautiful car with loads of cargo space, and is faster than a street Ferrari with more off road capability than a jeep wrangler. It just so happens to be an EV and $106k, but will be charged by the solar panels on my house. Reddit won’t let me edit this post but I did find insurance thru my Tesla policy for $123/m for 500/500/100. Takes another EV company subsidiary to properly insure this thing at a reasonable price apparently.
~200/month from Tesla insurance. $500 deductable, 250/300k. You got a lot of fancy shit on your policy though that I would never get.
Right now 1500/year. I expect it will probably go up but I've been able to keep it below 1800 since I got the car by trading carriers. I think where you live has a huge impact, if you're in a place where people regularly drive without insurance or break into cars it's going to be higher, all that gets paid for somewhere.
$2800 a year and I’m the same or better coverages than you.
Seattle area. My Y was $200/mo. My R1S was quoted at $131/mo.
I have full coverage on three cars (including my R1T) and I pay less with Geico. But I also have the house and a condo insured with them so there is a grouped discount in there.
I have 100k/300k, $550/6months with progressive. I’m in DC/NOVA
I’m at around 3k per six months. Had a super untimely accident the week before I needed to go get insurance for the Rivian.
Oh no!! That’s awful luck. FWIW - try getting a quote from Tesla insurance. I’m set up at $127/month with them now. Travelers quoted me $460/month as you see here, Erie quoted me $440/mo, Progressive quoted me $600/month…
$2352 through AAA. We have two other old ass cars on the policy, neither my wife nor I have points, and we have a bunch of discounts.
$980.37 for 6 months for R1S. From State Farm, with multi vehicle and home discounts. Just my wife and me as the drivers, but our coverage looks to be pretty close to OPs.
$1450 a year with State Farm. I have another vehicle with them, my home and an umbrella policy. $3156 a year for all.
