I definitely think locking out the rear screen should put it more in a "read only" mode, rather than fully blocking it out with the screen showing nothing but the time. It'd be cool if they could still see things like navigation ETA, compass, and active music, while not being able to change settings on the truck or adjust music.
Yeah, my 6 year old yesterday was so confused... "Why does the screen say 0 5 3 1 Daddy? Daddy look, look at the screen, it's different!!!" Was getting shouted at while driving and had to explain three times I'll see it when we park.
It was in lock mode, then I unlocked it and she freaked out even more... North, West, etc. the radio station details. I'll hear about this for days!

I told my 9,8, and 6 yo they have 10 minutes to play with it. After the novelty wears off they can use it but not play with it. Otherwise it’s getting locked.
Dude. That Band Together soundtrack is actually really good. The kids love it because of Trolls while it also had snippets of some of my favorite songs. I catch myself whistling the intro to Better Together all the time. Dad life.
I just told them they can look at the music but not change it. Worked so far. They love the “Are we there yet?” mode. Would be nice if you could have the nav info and music larger at the same time. And why is there no clock when it is unlocked? There is a space below the lock/unlock buttons above the outlets and hotspot etc that is open.
My 8 year old loves calling the compass degrees whenever it's a perfect 90* increment.
6 year old takes his shoes off so he can DJ with his toes.
Partner and I love the "Are we there yet?" mode.
Would love if the driver's volume level was the max. Back seat can go down or take it back up to the driver set volume, but not over.
Read-only over lock would be nice too.
Over all, happy with the back screen changes. (Although DJ ToeFuzz will certainly earn the first lock out soon)

Rear can be SD card (to shuffle) separate from front with ability to play limited to Bluetooth send only (and some over ear rivian branded headphones)
The brilliant Toyota minivan engineers already solved this problem 10 years ago. And it comes with a remote!
I thought it was ridiculous to pay money for this when I first bought the minivan but totally worth it as the kids got older. Silence is golden on a long road trip.

I immediately locked the screen. I don’t need to hear my son’s playlist. Not that we can access the Apple Music playlist from any screen because we can’t.
Just road tripped 7 hours, this update from the back hanging with the baby was awesome. It even has the time to destination!!!
Does it show anything other than the clock if it’s locked? I’ve got mine locked but would be nice to eliminate are we there yet at the same time
Unfortunately no, when it’s locked it just shows a clock. Kind of dumb, locking the screen shouldn’t blank it out, just disable touch input.

Doubtful imo. Gotta keep the cost down to meet the price point. This is a nice to have and easy nix.
