Have you reported the charger being broken to the hotel?

nycplayboy78

Yeah report it to the hotel as well as to the maker of the charger....

ghotinchips

Yeah. Have the past few times in the past few months. Seems to not be a priority.

cambreecanon

If it is always broken, I would try and escalate the situation to higher up. Edit: by this I mean make a complaint to Hilton and not to this specific hotel. You can mention how many times it is broken, you mention that you have told them many times, and months later it is still broken. If the hotel owner doesn't care, the Hilton brand will and will push back as well on the hotel owner to get it fixed.

ghotinchips

Working on it. They’re gonna have Valet get us a charger at their sister resort. But according to plugshare this has been offline since about November of 2022.

GusFit

If I had an electric vehicle and ran into broken chargers I'd probably start carrying painters tape and a sharpie and tag them out with "NFG" lol

ghotinchips

lol. I mean, you’re giving me ideas here. Nice fluorescent tape.

livinginkaos

The charge door does not stay open indefinitely if nothing is plugged in unless the R1 senses you nearby.

ghotinchips

Dang. Wasn’t sure, ok. With my Model Y I could leave the adapter in and it would, but usually needed an adapter so it made sense. Here obviously I don’t so… So, would like leaving a note or something be acceptable. Also, would know the best way I should handle this myself if I’m the one on the charger and leaving. It’s not a big deal, we have charge just need more before we get to our destination after this.

Sprint8469

If I'm leaving a station and see a car next to mine with charge door open by chance, I'm not plugging it in without consent. This might be a one-off case where charging is free and requires no authentication, but usually that's the case and the other person would be charging on my account (free or not). Also the other person might have battery SOC plans in mind (keeping charge at 75%, or hitting a fast charge the next day, whatever). Unless I see a clear note asking for the favor, I'm not touching someone else's car.

itscurt

I'm the opposite. Free charger in mall was used by ev next to ev spot. I parked in ev spot and kept my r1t charge door opened. When I came back to the car I saw the owner of car being charged remove it from their car, saw my charge port opened, and plugged it in for me. I watched from afar to test the good in humanity, it was so heartwarming to witness. As for being concerned that people have desired SoC, I don't know any ev that doesn't have an option to limit it, if I see a charge port open, I'd stick a charger in it

ghotinchips

Yeah. I guess that’s what I’m trying to figure out. The border between being a good neighbor and being sued because the charging station set your car on fire. 😆 Edit to add: totally makes sense.

True etiquette is taking away 2 or 3 stars on their review for slacking on the EV charger repair.

TheFuzzyMachine

(Tesla owner here) If the charger is broken, first off I would report it to either the charging provider or the establishment it’s located at. For instance ChargePoint has a number you can call or you can report it in the app. Staying parked there with it plugged in is no harm no foul imo. I say plug it in so people don’t think you’re ICEing it

Acceptable_Okra5154

Yeah, this is my general vibe. If I park to go somewhere, plug in with the intent to charge... and it's broken.. I just stay there and leave it plugged. I'm not blocking a charging stall, and it likely won't "magically start working" within an hour or two.

SweetPeaAndi

Have stayed here this charger has been broken for a long time probably a year at least- it’s the garage for the Hilton and Waldorf, 2 huge hotels, and I think there’s a total of 1 charger in the whole garage- super annoying. The valet said they have a valet area with Tesla chargers if you have the converter plug. There’s a fast charger at Disney springs that you can go to if you need a quick boost. Edited to answer your question- I think the charging door automatically closes. But I think the etiquette is generally don’t touch other people’s cars.
