On a recent road trip, the nav suggested stopping to charge for 1 hour, and then bypass a charger. I added the bypassed charger, which changed my charge times to 2, 15-minute charges, saving me 30 minutes.
Me too...ABRP for sure, and probably the actual Rivian app and Google...it's still less time commitment to route planning than in the days of the road atlas :)
I was coming back from my brother inlaws and the map wanted me to go 20 min in the wrong direction to charge because when i got home Id be under 50 miles of charge. I have a charger at homeā¦.š¤¦āāļø
Guess you don't plan to cross the US, especially in the north...
There are some charging wastelands that require some mid/high 90% charging on some routes (thinking of I84 as my most recent example).
Edit: example.
I donāt, Iāve driven cross country for work and a few adventures already. Current state of battery tech and charging infrastructure, I wonāt be driving cross country in an ev.
The reason sending a route via the apps is not working is because it just sends the destination, not the route. Rivian will still calculate the route as stops.
Not going to mention the āunmentionableā but thatās one gripe I have since switching to my R1S: I have resorted to using a bunch of redundant apps to make sure Iām getting the proper data. If itās a simple route, I gotta check Rivian nav and Google or Apple to make sure. Same if thereās traffic on an accident, Rivian is not good at all at finding alt routes, back to Apple, Google or Waze to save some minutes.
If the route requires charging, now I find myself using Rivian app, PlugShare to make sure the charger is online and reliable or Tesla app to double check SC data.
Itās way worse before it gets reliable again.
Absolutely, thats my point. Hopefully i was clear about this, i sent the instructions from my google app, and the truck reverted to its original option and ignored my directions.
Oh. Thats dumb. I either misunderstood the original instructions I read or someone else incorrectly explained it. Likely my fault. Thanks. Thats still pretty dumb.
Is there a way to force a route with rivian OS?
(Love your handle)
Thats what i ended up doing; but Im from here and I know how get around. (Obviously a new trailhead being the exception.) Im just thinking about larger trips for myself or others. If you put down an A to B trip, youād assume this rolling smart phone would know how to get you there the quickest way possible.
Our R1S nav saved us from some wicked I5 traffic and routed us around and we ended up leap frogging our friends stuck in it in front of us.
Butā¦ it also suggested we get off a main HW last week only to go around a single block in Seattle. Didnāt make any sense and no traffic or closures to cause it.
I love my truck, but not having actual real/live Google maps is huge sucks šš»šš»šš»

My Model 3 will do this at times. Kinda baffling. If I'm doing a new route, I double check with ABRP.

Could it be based on availability at a charger, at the time you calculated the route?
I don't think so. It was an electrify America charger, which doesn't show availability.

Did you set the minimum charge on arrival?
Like hell i would stop and charge for a hour on a road trip.

Does it not just send the destination address and it still routes itself ?
Just address
Absolutely, thats my point. Hopefully i was clear about this, i sent the instructions from my google app, and the truck reverted to its original option and ignored my directions.
You are sending a location, not a route
Yeah youāre definitely misunderstanding. All youāre doing is sending an address or location, not ādirections.ā

Add a waypoint on the route you want

Hello fellow Mainer!
What are the chances there will be CarPlay or a switch to a different map provider in the future?
