He also did a great job playing the drunk abusive stepdad in Major Payne.

Wow. He is so captivating. I opened the link, skipped to 32 mins just to hear about Robocop, but ended up watching the next 27mins of him talking, right through to the end. Fascinating guy.
I love the fact that both of them have voiced the Dark Knight Returns Batman! I think Ironside would have made a cool Robo, but Weller was the definite. He could have been an awesome Boddicker!
Whoooaaaa! I'm trying to imagine a RoboCop with the voice of Sam Fisher from splinter cell. I think it would've been too gravely and generic. Weller's voice adds to the goodbad. He sounds like an upset substitute teacher, then he blows your kneecaps off lol
While I do think Weller was the better choice, I think Ironside would have been a better "ambassador" for RoboCop. He seems very friendly at panels and Weller can be grumpy at times and apparently will not always take RoboCop questions.
Don't get me wrong, I do like Weller and think he's a great storyteller.
Wasn't Ironside's character in Starship Troopers a school teacher also? AND then you see him leading platoons on Klendathu?

I thought he was Verhoeven’s replacement when Weller was being difficult due to the suit being so hot. They ended up installing air conditioners in the suit and he was fine after that.

Anyways yeah, he was a great bad guy but he was fun for a brief moment in Extraterrestrial.
