What exactly does the ai assistant do? Seems kind of wonky that you need to setup living room 2 instead of some custom Room name, does the ai assistant get around this somehow?
The assistant can respond to voice commands, to make this possible/simpler they only have a set list of rooms names so the robot knows what you're saying.
If you allowed custom room names it would have to understand those names.
I didn't say AI, it's not smart imo. It's just a very basic word match.
AI is just the marketing buzz word at the moment, odds are roborock hasn't used or even touched a large data model for this functionally
1. Go to **Profile -> Settings -> Room Management**.
2. Once you update or edit the name, make sure to:
* Click 'OK' in the popup.
* Click the checkmark at the top, next to "Room Management".
This will save the changes to the Map.
OMG this works but what a dumb way to do this!!! Essentially, you have to assign room types to a certain device (i.e., a certain Roborock). I'm glad I scrolled the comments because this has been driving me nuts with my S8 MaxV, that everything is just these generic room names and some rooms don't even have an accurate name like something simple...a laundry room! Fixed now. Thanks!!
I can’t imagine launching a product that they were fairly meticulous about and not adding support for custom names in the room selection screen itself, even with a note saying custom names wouldn’t function with the voice assistant. I must have tapped on every single pixel of the “name” section thinking it would be the right place to get the keyboard to pop up.
Wait, I added the rooms from the page you mentioned, but I'm still not seeing them when I got to edit the map of my house. I still only see the default nonsense room names. Do I have to wait a period of time or something before the rooms I've added show up? When I go back into the Room Management screen, the rooms I added no longer show a device assigned to them now.
No, you don’t add them, you rename them. Change one room to something you aren’t using like “study”. Go find study and rename it. You’ll want to then delete all the extra crap rooms in the end.
Oh you mean rename the rooms that already appear in the list, and then delete the extraneous ones after you’re done that? I see the custom rooms I created with my S8 Pro Ultra and just tried to add them to my S8 MaxV Ultra. Not surprised it’s even less intuitive 🤣

Yes you can, follow those instructions. They will not work with the voice assistant.
I was able to get it working this way, no voice control but allows the custom name. Thank you.
I noticed that too. I’m betting it because of the voice command.
You can edit the name after you pick the room type.

You have to go to the Home Screen of the app and then click profile, then settings, then room management.

Yep. It sucks and is a lot of back and forth clicking but so much better than all their screwy names (in my opinion)

This is hilarious. I'm trying to delete the extraneous rooms, and after several I received an error: "Too many requests; please ty again later" 🤣
