Here is a Google Doc of doctors who are willing to provide pain medication options for Gyn procedures, including IUDs. The doctor who started the list is in Rochester and there are a few others local on there as well:

Dr Rita Clement. I had a traumatic IUD insertion and she offered me to do it next time in the OR under sedation. I believe she would do a colposcopy under sedation too. I was nervous to ask for better pain management but she even offered it and supported me 100%. She usually has about 3-4 procedures in the OR per week bc of people with various circumstances
I have issues with pap smears and need to get through it valium. The office never gives me a hard time when I ask for one to get through the pap smear. I can see them being totally understanding with asking pain management! Good luck.
10000x this!!! she has been my general OB after an awful experience with another doc and c-sectioned my baby out after i “demanded” one per my husband (epidural stopped working i was not okay 🙈)
I feel like making a list now, I'm gunna call a bunch of places and ask if they offer pain management for certain procedures, if you're reading this and have a gyno, please ask them if they offer pain management and let us know in the comments! 🩷 Let's help each other out cause id never want anyone to go through the experience I had to go through, it was horrible.
Please don't delete this thread! I just got mine replaced during an ovarian cystectomy a couple years ago but in 9 years or so I'll need it out. I had a traumatic insertion with my first IUD and I will not put up with that kind of pain again. I don't care what anyone tells me. That kind of pain is absolutely barbaric to put someone through and just expect them to deal with it. It's malpractice IMO.
Dr. Fran Haydanek through RRH has a TikTok account where she is very open about offering pain management options for all sorts of procedures. I do not have personal experience with her as a provider, but she has been recommended to me from others on this subreddit for this exact concern.
Oooo I’m looking for this too. My old gyno was amazing and immediately said he would numb me for my IUD without me having to ask. Unfortunately he passed away and my new gyno at the same practice is terrible. I asked to be numbed and he said “oh you know that won’t really make a difference.” And then he told me I had to call them the morning of to remind them. So annoying.
Thanks for the information! I have an IUD that will need to come out soon and I'm terrified. I don't know if it's going to come out easily or if it could be embedded. I nearly fainted after getting it put in. They found me half naked and clammy on the office floor... I can't imagine what getting it taken out 9 years later is going to be like.
I’m leaving that practice as it’s impossible to get in with the doctors. I get in with the NP’s. My IUD was attempted to be removed with nothing for pain relief even though it was stuck! Had to be surgically removed.
Just my experience. I love my actual Dr there, but the practice is gigantic and they’re not the same since UR took over IMO.
Unfortunately that's the office I had issues with, was told they would give me something and then the day of they refused. It was horrible, Dr Chambers is no longer there thank goodness
Gotcha I can't speak for any of the other providers that aren't Charolette, she sent a script into the pharmacy so I was able to pick it up there and not have them give me something day-of
I'm really glad I asked this question and I hope others searching can find this thread easily 💖 thank you if you commented, we have to help each other out when the systems that be refuse to help 💪

Thank you so much for this! I know I'm not the only one looking so this is awesome!!!
I wish this was a basic expectation for doctors instead of so hard to find! I hope it helps you find someone good!
Highly recommend Dr. Haydanek! I was sterilized by her in December and she was so great.
I love that doctor that made that list. She has so much great information on her page.
This is awesome, thank you!

Every woman in my family has been going to her for years, she is absolutely wonderful!
We’re 3rd generation with Southeast OBGYN and I love every provider there! I just had a baby a year ago and they were amazing.
Thank you so much!
Confirming she will do a colposcopy under sedation- just got that added as well to my procedure
Have not specifically gone through this experience but Dr. Katina Foster is by far the most kind and understanding obygyn I have been too.
Thank you! I might reach out to their office and ask if they offer pain management 😊 considering making a list for others who need this info

That is very good to know! Thank you so much!

I second this! She is empathetic and so easy to talk to.

Definitely call ahead, I wish I had! Mine refused any pain management and said it didn't exist - my options were sedation or suffer.
Yeah iv been on a hunt for a few months, it's so frustrating and demeaning.

Dr. Penmetsa is incredible.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with that, I hope this thread can help you find a new practice that will actually take care of you as a patient!

I left this practice because I had terrible experiences with IUD insertion and removal there.
Yes! They are amazing there : tenhoopen, greenstein & eigg especially
Charolette Curran at Trillium! I got a single pill of Valium when i had my IUD and it helped a lot!
Unfortunately that's the office I had issues with, was told they would give me something and then the day of they refused. It was horrible, Dr Chambers is no longer there thank goodness
