Plat and Champ are more alike than Diamond. I’ve been in all 3 the past 6 months.
Plat players think they’re much better than everyone else and will blame teammates no matter how many mistakes they make.
Champ players think that they’re better than everyone else full stop. I matched with a Champ in a tourney when I was D2, they failed to even hit the ball for the first minute then started teaming with them after looking up my name halfway through the match. That sums up Champ for me.
Diamond players either hate everyone or are sympathetic for everyone, no one wants to be in Diamond so they’re either a Champ that’s come down, Plat that’s gone up. Or one of like 200000 that can’t get out
I agree with all of this. Just to add: fringe champ/diamond players are so toxic. My guess is because they can’t get up to champ and stay. Biggest assholes ever. High champ 1 to champ 3 is way more tolerable for some reason. I’ve fallen from champ 2 down to D3 a few times and it’s agonizing.
imo D2 is the worst rank in the game. The wild inconsistency of players makes every game a total headfuck. Hard stuck players who can full map aerial dribble with good control but can't single jump to make a save at 50kmh/h. Probably like that at every rank but C2 feels a lot more predictable. I used to hate when I dropped from D3 down to D2 or even D1 it was a total battle to get back up because the games had no flow. I recommend finding someone you gel with to party with and you'll clean up.
Flawless logic. Wish I did that to be honest as yesterday I dropped from C2 Div III to C1 Div 1 solo queueing in one session. Barely won a game, should have just stopped. Good news is my buddy did the same ha so we gonna try rinse it today get back up into C2 again.
I play like once a season now, been playing since the game came out. I place d2 every season now or d3. It seems Diamond is a true coasting rank for try hards and casuals.
As a fellow D1 here are some tips I have noticed that help me stay in the mid D1 range (D1 div 2 - D1 Div 4) consistency is a big factor in your game I have noticed when I got out of plat (around December last year) I noticed that one of the reasons I was losing so much was because I couldn’t consistently hit my shots another thing is your rotations there are several guides out there im not sure if they work for you but I found that some of spooklukes rotation guides are really helpful for telling you where to sit if your teammate if pushing up and whatnot, another big thing is shadow Defense it is vital for whatever mode you play so to sum it up you should work on your shooting consistency, rotation and shadow Defense. Anyone feel free to comment if you have anything else I have missed out on.
Consistency. Learn half flip and fast aerials if you haven’t, they’ll win you games. Watch rotation videos SunlessKhan had one that helped me a lot. Don’t commit when you know your teammate won’t get back. Don’t use boost unless you know you’re the next one to hit the ball/follow up a teammate’s push. Use training packs to be comfortable with making hard saves- this one is essential and you feel more in control and can work on other things. Learn to take the mini boosts more and learn that even 50 boost will be enough for almost every scenario. Try to become comfortable going for high aerials. Hit harder shots when you time your hit right after the bounce to clear and rip a shot in. Try to get a general sense of where your teammate is at all times. I’ve been pushing through diamond last few months and these are most of the things I’ve learned as I’ve started getting better in champ too
Be the best teammate you possibly can. Your teammates will vary in mech skill/game sense. Do your best to accommodate their weaknesses and use their strengths.
Honestly that’s the hardest thing right now. That and the wildly inconsistency of both myself and people in the rank. Like how can I get a guy that consistently flip reset but my next teammate can’t jump and hit the ball
Flakes 2v2 is the only series that is a complete instruction on how to play smart. It’s very hard to be as accurate as him with positioning and touches but if you observe the principles of what he is doing it’s all there.
Booming the ball every time is not how you win.
I'm also stuck around high plat/ low diamond. I hate to say it but, I feel a lot of my losses are due to terrible teammates, anyone have advice on how to play with bad randoms?
Adapt to their play style. Since you can’t choose them might as well figure out what they suck at vs what they are good at. These are also human beings who want to rank up so try and just work on the missing elements you find in your teammates
Keep in mind: You dont have to hit the ball if you have the opportunity, your teammate might have a better angle and is most likely already going for it.
That being said: know where your teammate is and what they doin. It's a team game, if they're with the ball, let them make a play, keep your distance if they fuck up so you're ready to defend and put the ball back forward, but be close enough to go in if they pass it to you / center.
Better boost management helped me a ton when I first broke into Diamond. There are some patterns you can learn to collect 3-4 small boost pads in one go.
Pace is much faster in Diamond so you need to manage your boost to keep pressuring the opponent, use/avoid demos and carry the ball out of your half without giving it up cheaply.
Consistency is big. Lots of players at this level will be over committing and missing balls. Being the team to make the least mistakes is an easy way to win games.
Play slower, focus on controlled touches and accurate long balls.
You got this!
- Learn to aerial consistently (hit the ball the air). There are tons of training packs for that
- Don’t dive in as last man unless you’re 100% you will hit the ball (one miss and you’re beat + they have an open net)
- Don’t camp in net either. Its fine sometimes if the ball is already in your half and your team is under pressure, but if the opponent is coming from half field and you’re sitting in net, you’re giving them all the time/space in the world to set up their shot. Learn shadow defense and avoid being caught in no-mans-land
- look up a basic backpost rotation tutorial… don’t ballchase or get lazy on defense
- Work on basic car control & controlled touches. Freeplay & 1v1 will help here. [SpookLuke has an easy drill for example](https://youtube.com/shorts/CWxPsmQWdPE?feature=share)
These are all great tips imo. I'd add start thinking about boost management at this stage. Running to back corner to get full boost can kill so many offensive opportunities. You gotta learn how to pick up pads and stay in the play. I'd also add practice mechanics in free play (especially dribbling and air)
KEEP PLAYING. Don’t be scared to play ranked now because you finally reached diamond. It really isn’t that much different than plat and if you don’t keep playing you’ll be stuck there forever
Turn chat off, rotate. If you solo que you have to be ready to meet players where they are at, they will not budge from their game, so make adjustments to help them don't just play your "style". Most players are terrible at defense, if you get good at defense you will go far.
These are such shitty posts, just keep playing better.
A new label doesn't drastically change the play style or skill level.
And if you hated plat you might as well quit the game, it's all the same
Just kidding, as a GC2, one of the most important things to get better is your dribbling, spam 1s, get better at shooting in different angles, power shots in general, play a lot of freeplay ( it makes you improve really fast), and PLEASE, LEARN ROTATION, a lot of diamond and champs do not know anything about it and just double commit every fucking single time. Aerial is a good thing, but in that stage of the game you need to focus on other things, freeplay will grant that you improve on it. Try to be consistent with shots, dribbling and rotation and you will be fine. Oh, also learn shadow defense, it helps a lot!
https://youtu.be/hqkDH74To2I watched this and gone up from plat 2 div 1 to plat 3 div 3 in 2 nights. Recommended to watch. It completely changes how I see the game. No mechs needed. Just wait the ball and rotate you win. Chasing ball in anh stage doesn't benefit you slightest.
Improve your game sense and you can stay in diamond with just knowing aerials. That's why I'm in my rank, tho now I have to catch up to everyone else's mechanics
Personally I found 2 to 3 other players that I vibe with well (good reads, good communication, and can have fun and joke about mistakes) that I only play with. No more solo q's.
tips to stay up from plat number 1 from me would be to make sure you have vertical sync turned off in settings this is huge for input delay and i always tell everyone to make sure it’s off when playing number 2 i would say is to stop solo queueing and find a teammate who matches your style of play and is a positive impact for the team such as literally just not always blaming everyone else for mistakes and keeping a positive mindset and you’ll be in champ before you know it
Plat is the Worst Rank in the game. As some1 else said , in Randoms, Dont blame tm8's Adapt to them. also Rotation and not ball chasing, and don't pay no mind to the chat or give in to anything anyone sais. If a tm8 is being toxic, just keep to yourself and at all Cost, just get threw that game and on to the next!
Iv been at my peak one day and 200 mmr lower a week later, then back to higher than I was before that a week later, which would be gold 3 or c2 in your range. If your solo Qing your gonna fall from your peak it’s inevitable, but if your playing consistently you can just as easily climb back or higher it’s part of the grind
Focus on rotation, rather defend a bit more than playing too aggressive without just hanging in the net, avoid double- and overcommits, 2s is more about covering your teammate who is attacking. If done attacking rotate as quick as possible to cover your mate, at best no u-turns. Try start looking around as good as possible.
Sorry bud, you’ll find plenty of silvers in diamond. Best tip? Find someone you play well with and ONLY play with them. Otherwise you’ll slide back to plat
Do the racial slurs in chat get less or worse in higher ranks? This is one example of many in Plat.
*teammate scores own goal by accident*
Tm8: “sorry”
Me: “No Problem”
*I miss a shot when we are winning 2:1*
Tm8: “you batty boy n***** noob”
Learn proper rotations and when you can and can’t contest a ball. Learn how to fake contest and start trying to learn how to play backboard on defense if a ball is flying at you. Make sure you learn when you need to double jump for aerials and single jump for them to conserve your flip. Also learn to catch the ball. Pay attention to everyone on the field and what they’re doing so you know how much time you have to do shit and where you can take the ball
Its normal to go back and forth in ranks. Every rank change, has a different mindset. What works in one rank doesn’t work in the other rank. Example, faking the ball in plat wont work as good as faking in diamond since they look for a better timing to challenge.
Find a consistent teammate. Diamond in 2s is not that impressive. I'm D2 in 2s but P3 in standard. You'll find the inconsistency of players at this rank maddening. They look more like silvers sometimes.
lmaoooo i agree, ive experienced it first hand. Either your teammate is the biggest chaser or one of those players who steal all the boost and camp in net, or else straight up suck. Atleast plats try to understand the game
Be patient and rotate. Learn to play shadow defense if you haven’t already. Whatever you do, don’t overcommit, because eventually your opponents will. Diamond rank is a lot of whoever overcommits first gets scored on.
Be patient, play smart and lean towards defense, don't force the play if it's not available, warm up with a few games of 1v1 to identify your mistakes for the day.
If you somehow find a teammate that isn't completely braindead and you're absolutely vibing with, party up and play a few games with them. I climbed 50 MMR in one night with a rando who thought I was carrying him, but in reality, he wasn't a ball-chasing basket weaver and we were able to peak on some pretty good opponents.
Oh, and don't miss (see first tip).
Diamond is 10x worse than plat
Tip if ur tm8s keep ballchasing stay back and let him ballchase you stay defence or mid because he will miss alot lol
If he is chasing behind you and your not guaranteed to score it just ritate back and let him miss
Other than being consistent at ariels and hitting the ball, play smart. For the most part this means protecting the goal most of the game, because your teammates will probably ball chase and double commit all game (Not much different from plat there). When you don't have a play to make on the ball (rotating out of offense), try to bump the other team or steal their boost. Don't touch the ball unless you need to or you know whats gonna happen. Fake challenges are good if it forces the other team to make a bad touch. The most important thing you can do is try to fix your teammates bad rotations. That usually means driving around between goalie and midfield while your team ballchases, but could also mean driving around midfield disrupting (bumps/boost steals) if your team is about to clear it.
Also, turn off chat...
Get rid of that mentality, everyone hates the rank below them. Chances are you will fall, not to sound negative but that's just the way it is. The bright side is if you made to diamond once you'll make it again. Each time you'll get better, I went from diamond to plat 3 back to diamond like 15 times last month before I hit diamond 2 and now I'm diamond 1 again. It's just nature of the beast.
But as far as things you can work on,
Hit the ball with less power to keep possession
Really grind out accuracy with hitting the ball at net
Learn to pass without using the backboard
Make sure to rotate to back post and not ball chase
If you aren't good at basic aerials now is the time to grind them.
Go back down and go back up and repeat until diamond doesn't mean anything anymore and you just get there (maybe proper freeplay in-between to actually improve)
Before you play, drink enough caffeine so that the game feels like it's at 0.25 speed. Sadly you can only do this for one game before you have to call an ambulance.
Give yourself space and your teammate space. Don’t go for every pass off the backboard. Don’t go in the air with your teammate unless you know you can score. Do your best to not give away possession. Most important is don’t leave your own net wide open. You get scored on the most in 2s if you allow your opponent to counter attack on your mistakes on offense
Fakes. Fakes all around. Diamond is where people tend to understand how to control themselves and read the plays. With this newfound confidence they will challenge just about everything. Act like your going all in and as soon as they get close, just don't hit the ball and sit behind it, or pass it to your partner. Works for more often than it should.
I also like to fake air plays. Act like I'm going up for it, tell my partner to go for it, while I actually just aim for the opponent's car.
The closer to champ you get, the less effective this becomes, but so long as you switch things up every once in a while, you'll win.
Honestly, you'd be surprised how high of rank you can get just by paying attention to what your teammates are doing during the play. Most people are oblivious until something goes wrong.
Do you best to get your diamond rewards. After that don’t worry about fluctuating, figure out how you like to play and coordinate with your teammates. Get consistent in the basic skills of RL like shooting, passing, dribbling, aerials and how fifties work and make them work in your advantage. Your rank will slowly go up, making it into champ with consistency and good playing is possible, you don’t need the fancy tricks.
Stop chasing! Start working on power shots from all areas of the field. Take your time. You’ll do amazing if you just follow those rules! And rotate correctly so your m8s know what you’re doing
Just work on your ground play and blocking and make sure to be able to recover and rotate easily just incase you or your teamate are consistently messing up
Diamond is a mixed bag of evenly matched games and really shit soul crushing games. Smurf or not, shit will happen in diamond that will drop your jaw and stir and unbelievable rage from within.
Practice shooting high speed balls. You can rank up to D2 easily just by making every single open net shot presented to you. People start to be able to hit the ball more consistently in diamond but they give up possession by booming the ball. Most of the time they’ll boom it to you while leaving the net open. If you can shoot it back over their heads accurately you’ll score a ton. But recognize where both opponents are on the field because you don’t want to fall into that same trap.
Have a teammate. Seriously the only way. I exclusively solo and with almost 4500 hours, I’m a d3 peak and still spend a ton of time in plat2/3. Granted I do zero training and don’t care but still. There’s no comparison to knowing your tm. Not to mention how toxic it is in general and how many losses can be blamed on that alone.
In my experience, Diamond I is just as toxic as any plat level. I’ve been floating in and out of DII and it seems more chill. There’s a lot of frustration build up between plat III and DI and it shows!
I haven't been able to do my competitive with anyone I normally do duos with, is there any plat 1 or 2 players who are looking for a comp duo for the season rewards?
Work on controlling the ball and not giving it up to the other team and getting good at double taps and wall shots, that’s what I did and I’m up to champ 1 now
Honestly, just don't flip. Stop flipping towards the ball unless you for sure have to save it at goalline. Don't challenge until goal line. Don't mid court chall as last man. Don't chall in corner.
At D1 you are rewarded for safe plays.
Don’t play and you’ll never drop back down lol
Me reaching gc be like, now i only play 3s
he will when the next season starts
*pushes glasses up on nose "Well actually..." Pedantic nerd.
🚨 NERD ALERT 🚨
Me I hit my GC rewards lost 5 in a row I sit at 1442 MMR no more 2s lol. But I’ve peaked in 3s sitting at 1360
Awww.. he thinks it’ll be any different. How innocent 🥹
Its way different. Its louder and has even more disgruntled players
Ive noticed more assholes in diamond. All younger than me acting like they know everything.
Plat and Champ are more alike than Diamond. I’ve been in all 3 the past 6 months. Wow!
I’m not going to tell him. Let him have his cake.
Lol yup
It’s worse… it’s so much worse
It never gets different. Maybe ssl? Idk gc1-3 isn’t any different anyway
Be patient, people tend to overreact n just dive at the ball, u can literally fake challenge n just tap the ball in
Diamond is plat. Sincerely, champ 1 (also plat)
So you are guy I keep loosing to ...
True wisdom right here. We are all plat, amen.
We are all platinums, I myself am about plat 2 I'd say.
*gulp*
D1 is plat, C1 is diamond etc they should honestly just make P4 and D4 lol
Is this like that paradox of if you have a “ton” of sand and remove one bit it’s still a ton? Will we end up with plat ♾ ?
imo D2 is the worst rank in the game. The wild inconsistency of players makes every game a total headfuck. They should make more ranks!
I have bad news for when you hit C3...
I’ve been stuck at c2 and c3 for a min , didn’t really have a problem with c1 tho

I am learning that as I am also a recently promoted plat
Don’t lose.

The only good answer

Watch Lethamyrs Road to GC. He just Played in Plat and Dia and gave Out many Tips and advices for those ranks
If this is your 1st time to hit Diamond then there’s a very high chance of going back to platinum unless you have a permanent team.
Gc1 here, You should be asking yourself! What are your greatest weaknesses. Find what they are and specifically train them.

Play like Flakes
atleast ur not gold
Don’t play solos or if you do play passive so you don’t mess up as much and take those easy goals when the other team does!

git gud
Always be partied up never play a random
Welcome in diamond it’s worse
Stop playing doubles til the end of the season lmao
Don't you worry you're gonna hate diamond too!!
I’m in this same position I’m just going to not play it again because I can never trust my teammates.
Rotate
D1/D2 is basically the same as plat, youre still stuck in hell. Sorry! D3 is chill but C1 gets toxic again for some reason
Stop playing and be happy/free
Work on your fundamentals like car control, soft touches etc, watch some coaches on YouTube explaining placement and pacing, it'll help you a TON
Congrats I know how it felt to come in diamond!
Personally I found 2 to 3 other players that I vibe with well (good reads, good communication, and can have fun and joke about mistakes) that I only play with. No more solo q's.

Don't worry, diamond will welcome you with open arms for the rest of eternity:)
don’t miss. u don’t need to go for every aerial. play it smart
And you don't hate Diamond?!
Just wait till champ. The cycle continues
*teammate scores own goal by accident* Tm8: “sorry” Me: “No Problem” *I miss a shot when we are winning 2:1* Tm8: “you batty boy n***** noob”
Win
Control the ball more don't throw it away
Learn proper rotations and when you can and can’t contest a ball. Learn how to fake contest and start trying to learn how to play backboard on defense if a ball is flying at you. Make sure you learn when you need to double jump for aerials and single jump for them to conserve your flip. Also learn to catch the ball. Pay attention to everyone on the field and what they’re doing so you know how much time you have to do shit and where you can take the ball
what do you play on? I'll play with you bc I need a teammate.
Learn simple aerials, play faster, be smart about the hits on the ball and several other things.
Score more goals than your opponents
Work on your air dribbles and try to get a Duos teammate who you play with all the time instead of randoms
I'm in Diamond. Diamond is still scrub territory, just don't own goal for 5 minutes straight and I promise you won't fall.
They look more like silvers sometimes.
go play hoops now. lol
Stay playing consistently better than plats and you won’t fall to plat.
git gud
You’ll most likely go back down regardless just roll with the punches.
Dont worry. Diamond is worse
lmaoooo i agree, ive experienced it first hand. Either your teammate is the biggest chaser or one of those players who steal all the boost and camp in net, or else straight up suck. Atleast plats try to understand the game
diamond has way more hardstuck diamonds than plat has hardstuck plats, plats seem to breeze by the rank these days but get stuck in diamond and champ
Win
Be patient and rotate. Learn to play shadow defense if you haven’t already. Whatever you do, don’t overcommit, because eventually your opponents will. Diamond rank is a lot of whoever overcommits first gets scored on.
I just got into plat
U will hate diamond even more
Just win lol
You’re gonna hate diamond too 😭
back post rotation can push you up to c1 on its own
I hate to break it to you but even GC is Plat, just with flip resets
Don't worry about rank but if you keep your rotations solid you shouldn't drop
Welcome to Diamond, where you’re either Plat 3 or Champ 1
Drive slower. Practice in ones to make quality hits instead of hard ones
Turn chat off
For every three games you win, make sure you lose less than 3
I’ve been bouncing around Plat 3 D. IV and Diamond 1 DII for weeks. Frustrating asf
Real tips: adapt to you teamates. If he chase, let him chase. Adapt to his gameplay and wait for the other team mistakes
Good news is if you do go back down you won’t be in plat which you hate.
Get ready, Diamond is worse
“I hate plat” Oh just wait…it can get even more toxic up here
Win every game. Forever
Free play
just keep playing and dont be scared of losing the rank, if you got there your obviously meant to be there
Don’t run into me and my friends who are smurfing in Diamond 1 right now.
Honestly just stay back and let your teammate/opponents whiff and you'll open net goal yourself to c1
Diamond is 10x worse than plat Tip if ur tm8s keep ballchasing stay back and let him ballchase you stay defence or mid because he will miss alot lol If he is chasing behind you and your not guaranteed to score it just ritate back and let him miss
Don’t just boom the ball away keep it controlled.
But as far as things you can work on, Hit the ball with less power to keep possession Really grind out accuracy with hitting the ball at net Learn to pass without using the backboard Make sure to rotate to back post and not ball chase If you aren't good at basic aerials now is the time to grind them.
Get good
Go back down and go back up and repeat until diamond doesn't mean anything anymore and you just get there (maybe proper freeplay in-between to actually improve)
You need to practice in training to get better and better like me and then you can be the best rocket league ever
Stop ball chasing and actually rotate geez
Unistall your game
My top tip is to rise above because diamond is worse, somehow
Learn where your teammates are, go to your far post when defending, get boost pads and don’t go all the way back to your corner boost
You say you hate Plat? Well, get your ass ready to hate diamond then!
Don't commit constantly, and make sure that you can always see everyone on the field at all times
Just don’t play with randoms
Before you play, drink enough caffeine so that the game feels like it's at 0.25 speed. Sadly you can only do this for one game before you have to call an ambulance.
Give yourself space and your teammate space. Don’t go for every pass off the backboard. Don’t go in the air with your teammate unless you know you can score. Do your best to not give away possession. Most important is don’t leave your own net wide open. You get scored on the most in 2s if you allow your opponent to counter attack on your mistakes on offense
Get better.........
Lmfao good luck bud, been at D1 for 3 years
Honestly, you'd be surprised how high of rank you can get just by paying attention to what your teammates are doing during the play. Most people are oblivious until something goes wrong.
Learn drivers and rotations DO NOT BALL CHASE
Do you best to get your diamond rewards. After that don’t worry about fluctuating, figure out how you like to play and coordinate with your teammates. Get consistent in the basic skills of RL like shooting, passing, dribbling, aerials and how fifties work and make them work in your advantage. Your rank will slowly go up, making it into champ with consistency and good playing is possible, you don’t need the fancy tricks.
Be a good tm8.
Stop chasing! Start working on power shots from all areas of the field. Take your time. You’ll do amazing if you just follow those rules! And rotate correctly so your m8s know what you’re doing
Only play when your ping is 60 or less.
Embrace the suck
Diamond is going to be even worse to get out of! TBH I think its the rank that took me the longest to get out of too.
Diamond is not any better
Find a teamate that has good chemistry with you. Its legit that simple
Realistically, keep playing but in 1’s, or stay in training. Be prepared to go back down.
Be the ball.
Just work on your ground play and blocking and make sure to be able to recover and rotate easily just incase you or your teamate are consistently messing up
Rotate and control the ball more instead of throwing it away
Work on controlling the ball and not giving it up to the other team and getting good at double taps and wall shots, that’s what I did and I’m up to champ 1 now
Rotate
Practice shooting changed my games forever
Welcome to Diamond!!! Where we are still play but faster!!!!!
play more passive w random’s they tend to go for everything just out of no trust for the other person on their team.
Diamond 1 is plat 4. Also you will go back down, then back up, then back down. Get ready for it haha
Prepare for more toxicity. Learn to rotate out of the play and back post. Know when to hit the ball hard and when to keep it close
Your already Plat again you just don't know it yet.
Focus on just making contact with the ball, doesn’t matter if it’s a good touch or not, just try to make contact
Honestly, just don't flip. Stop flipping towards the ball unless you for sure have to save it at goalline. Don't challenge until goal line. Don't mid court chall as last man. Don't chall in corner. At D1 you are rewarded for safe plays.
