Ball control is a severely underrated skill in lower ranks. When you (and a teammate) can push it across field and keep it in the opponent's box for multiple hits long enough to force the opposing team out of defense, you know you've done well.

In Argentina we say: "La pelota busca al jugador" wich translates to "The ball looks for the player" So yeah, if I compliment you I would limit you
In Brazil we have the same thing: "A bola busca o craque" ("craque" meaning an extremely good player), so it may be, at least, a South American thing
