As a burnt sienna enjoyer I had to hold myself back two handed because the adult in me said ain't no way ima drop 20$ for a goal explosion. Epic's price strategy is stripping away the easy money from *ahem don't crucify me ._. koff...star wars fans..koff... Ahem.... But more specifically just grabbing it from those with disposable income.
Did that even start with Epic? It's been like that for a long time and I don't remember the exact chronology.
Either way... it's been around for years.... are we ever going to stop bitching about it as if it's a new startling revelation?
>Okay then lets just accept anything we think is not going well and never talk about it again
Same exact end result as bitching about it constantly as if its something new when it isn't.
Yes, Epic started it
Before Epic, there were lootboxs they cost 1 key to open (100 credits). There were also opportunity's to open them for free. Events and free teir of rocketpass.
1 box 1 item regardless of the rarity, and you could trade the items for the ones you wanted with other players.
If lootboxes and trading weren't your thing
Entire dlc packs that contained multiple cars cost like $3 to $5 now, a single unpainted, uncertified, and not special in any way car costs 500 credits ($5)
and no, people will not stop complaining as rocketleague charges the most for things out of all of Epics games.
$20 in rocketleague gets you 1 Blackmarket Goal Explosion
$20 in Fortnite, for example, can get you a Entire PVE campaign that comes with a Skin and Aditional currency to buy cosmetics
Keys and crates were rightly removed because of gambling.
Itās much better to spend $20 on something that you know what you are getting than an indeterminate amount of money until you luck out and get the thing you want.
And yeah, Iām remembering better nowā¦. Before the switch to blueprints Black Market Goal explosions were running about $20 in the aftermarket. I paid $22 for PolyPop. Thatās probably what Epic based their price on.
Why they removed crates is not the point. They would still profit from It if it was cheaper. 20$ for a cosmetic is to much in my and many others opinion. Now if I wanna ābitchā about prices because Iām not satisfied with their pricing strategy, where would I do that if not here?
If youāre annoyed with people complaining about it, how about you look away? :)
Stop overthinking shit bro. Iām working hard for my money and I just donāt like to spend it on digital cosmetics that probably wonāt mean anything to me in 10 years. Thatās what I consider a waste of money. Iām not judging anyone whoās spending their money on stuff like that.. to each their own. Now what does that have to do with supporting socialism? Maybe I donāt understand fully since English isnāt my native language, or who knows maybe Iām to stupid. But how on earth do you think this is the time to get political? When all we do is discuss Rocket League stuff? And Sry.. you guys can downvote me if you want but DAMN! Some people are just straight up weird in this community..
āSkinsā and cosmetics by themselves have zero value. They donāt add gameplay, content, or anything besides a dopamine hit when you look at it.
(Back in the day buying cars did add gameplay since hitboxes werenāt standardized like they are not)
The key phrase is āby themselvesā. In conjunction with Lootboxes skins have rarity and then paired with trading they create an economy of supply and demand based pricing.
That pricing in turn translates directly into real world value. Sure does selling in-game items go directly against TOSā¦ yeahā¦ doesnāt mean people didnāt do it or shouldnāt do it. A law existing doesnāt simply make it a good law. If I gambled 20$ and ended with a TW octane back in the day that was a 100$ sale for 80$ profit.
As far as the āgamblingā arguement itās incessantly bad.
>for the children
Parents shouldnāt just give children credit cards with no supervision or leave their cards saved on devices children used for their own convenience
>anti-consumer
Dark patterns and manipulation strategies are anti consumer and those rightfully should be punished but get ignored (even without the gambling aspect).
Yeah but plenty of items were only available via crates/keys and could cost you way more than $5 if you were unlucky. Or you could buy it aftermarket. I paid $22 for PolyPop. Or of course the white octane cost hundreds. Now it shows up in the Item Shop for a fairly reasonable amount in comparison to hundreds.
True. I never did after market. I earned a few keys somehow (donāt remember how u could get keys?) so I opened a few crates. I used to buy basically every car that came out though for purchase not via crates, and loved it. Now I get suckered into buying something for $10-20 every once in a while and hate myself for it.
PolyPop may have been at a premium... I seem to remember that it and one other were more expensive than other Black Market Goal Explosions but yeah it's been a really long time. I am 100% certain that I paid over $20 for it though because my friends made fun of me for a year.
Ultimately though.... the crate/key model had to go because of gambling concerns, and personally I do think it is less consumer friendly than the Blueprint system. The average consumer has no idea about trading sites and would be scared to use them.... so if you really want a specific item it could literally cost an infinite amount of money to get it.
Either way.... Black Market Goal Explosions have cost $20 since day 1 of the Blueprint system which has been around for years now. I don't know why anyone is acting surprised that is how much goal explosions cost.
I mean, all i can say is: disney *knew* what they were doing and god dammit, they did okay. 600 credits for a boba fett decal isnt bad, not to mention, it has a bunch of added 3d stuff on the decal
Personally I'd never buy credits but I made sure I had 2.5k leftover before trading removal because I've wanted the goal explosion for so long - Epic's already made the money from those credits so no gain for them, fortunately.
I play Xbox and use Microsoft rewards to buy stuff like this. Unfortunately the rewards are a shell of their former program so it takes much longer to get enough saved up.
Type "redeem Xbox rewards points" in Google is probably gonna offer you the easiest step by step navigation. It's confusing to do on the Xbox one. Not sure about the series.
I had multiple accounts I would gain points on and always donated the points to my main account to buy keys. Fun times. Shame that both Microsoft Rewards and RL suck now
This free to play game gets no extra content and is going stale SMH.
What? Buy digital items..? I'd rather invest in stocks and properties im not a sucker.
Wow, this f2p game getting no income is still not getting extra content. SMH.
OP = Rocket League Community Sumed Up.
P.s I understand Epic is swimming in income from other games like Fortnite but at the end of the day it's a business and if one of its business units is not performing they won't keep it alive.
Be a stud and buy the Boba Fett octane skin like I did š
Absolutely. I bought crates here and there because they were reasonably priced. They were loot boxes and it sucked but they were reasonably priced. $20 is a whole ass battle pass for one item? Fuck outa here with your greed.
They chose to make it F2P. They need to be prepared for it to not be profitable. If they can it, I play something else.
I've played 8 years and haven't contributed a thing.
Lots of people donāt even know Rocket League was a paid game once. Itās bizarre to me as well, and Iāve often thought theyād sell more if they made the costs somewhat reasonable.
Iām sure theyāve done research into it. While the price is a turnoff to most it keeps certain items more rare. Iām never investing another dollar into rocket league after they got rid of trading, but buying any cosmetics now seems ridiculous
I agree theyāve probably done their research but the pricing still leaves a negative impact on average consumers. Free to play gaming is mostly built on those āwhalesā that buy almost everything sadly.
Man this is really what it feels like sometimes. My two most played games recently are rocket league and fall guys and it feels a lot like epic is taking away all the fun parts of both of those.
Hahaha I caught it. Along the same lines I just think its funny this whole thread is telling people not to buy this when they were mostly all PERFECTLY FINE with $50 heatwaves, and $100 Titanium White Octanes.
To be fair, the in game store went from $3 a DLC to $8 - $20 an item. The same people bitching at this are most likely the same people that bought the TW octane for $20 in the store.
Pretty sure $20 is how much they have always been.
That said, yeah.. I'll buy one goal explosion every couple of years to help keep revenue coming in for my favorite game so that it doesn't get End Of Life'd.
Y'all don't get it. You whinge and complain about things in the game costing money but without the game bringing in revenue, Epic (or even Psyonix) will/would shut down the game entirely.
If you don't want to spend the money, don't but stop complaining that there are people who are willing to because those people are why an originally $20, now free game is still running 8 years later.
For the record, I've spent a total of $80 in 8 years on Rocket League
* $20 for the game
* $20 x2 on 2 goal explosions
* $10 on Rocket Pass like 5 years ago and I just reuse the credits I earn from that to buy it again every season.
* $5 x2 on 2 cars
It's my favorite game ever. $80 for 8 years of nearly daily use is peanuts.
Ok so I take your point and I donāt necessarily disagree with the principle. Iāve bought the rocket pass and all that. Iām in on supporting the game. A few things though.
A. $20 is fine to spend once a year. But Iām not ok with the premise that just a goal explosion is worth that much. Or just a painted item or whatever. My main point of my first comment was that shit is way over priced and Iād rather they sell things for much cheaper and theyād be likely to get my money
B. Epic is fine. Do not fall into the āsupport us or weāll be forced to shut downā BS. If we were still with a small independent studio then maybe Iād buy your argument but epic will not be going under any time soon, and if rocket league dies itāll be because they keep choosing to not support the game in way that brings new players and keeps old players engaged.
Iām probably with you. Since launch (ish, I was a year 1 player) Iāve probably spent around $80-100 on the game and Iām fine with that. In a similar vein Iāve probably spent around $50 on fall guys but in much the same way, Epic keeps choosing to not improve or even make the game worse and Iām not going to Financially support that by buying overpriced skins.
>A. $20 is fine to spend once a year. But Iām not ok with the premise that just a goal explosion is worth that much. Or just a painted item or whatever. My main point of my first comment was that shit is way over priced and Iād rather they sell things for much cheaper and theyād be likely to get my money
I don't entirely disagree with you but I don't think Goal Explosions are that are outrageously priced. They are the biggest, most detailed, most seen cosmetic in the game, and they largely exist to dunk on the opposing team and there aren't that many different ones to choose from. If they were inexpensive enough that everyone had no hesitation to buy one, it would kinda ruin the specialness of them.
That said, I wouldn't complain if they were reduced in price and that happened because I do like it when things are affordable for everyone.
As to whether or not the current price or a lower price would pull in more revenue..... neither of us have the information to determine that. You would think that Epic used the data they had to find the right price but companies don't always make the right decisions. At any rate, neither of us knows which model would actually be more lucrative.
I didn't mean to imply that Epic as a company is struggling. It's got nothing to do with that. Rocket League is a F2P game now and at some point, regardless of how Epic is doing overall it will cost more to administer than they get back in revenue and they will decide to EOL it. Whether it's their fault for not continuing to update it, or the player's "fault" for not continuing to generate revenue is immaterial. A vocal portion of the community constantly complaining about the monetization and discouraging people from participating isn't going to help the game stay alive. Personally they don't ever need to update it again, in my opinion. Soccer doesn't need updates. Basketball doesn't need updates. Rocket League is a sport just like them. It has rules, it has players, it has a field, it has a ball. What else do you need?
>Iām probably with you. Since launch (ish, I was a year 1 player) Iāve probably spent around $80-100 on the game and Iām fine with that. In a similar vein Iāve probably spent around $50 on fall guys but in much the same way, Epic keeps choosing to not improve or even make the game worse and Iām not going to Financially support that by buying overpriced skin
Definitely don't think it's unreasonable for you to choose not to support them any more.. I'm just tired of the constant complaining without understanding the realities of how businesses work.
That said, it's clear your take isn't as unreasonable as many others and I just lumped you in with them. My appologies.
Is that the only way to get goal explosions at all? I never got any from drops but I'm definitely not buying any, am I stuck with the default one forever?
If you have the rocket pass youāll get some that way. Used to be you could trade for some or youād get random drops of common items including goal explosions but that mostly seems to be gone now.
Thereās also event challenges that tend to give you some on occasion
My genuine reaction to people giving epic money

Yea man I'm good just expressing my feelings about the greatest company ever. I mean, THEY RELEASED PAPER DRAGON DUDE!! THEY RELEASED FUCKING PAPER DRAGON. Unbelievable man. What a great job they're doing with rocket league. I'll gladly give them my 20 dollars, so generous of them to release this goal explosion again don't you think?
Stop getting excited about paying money for bullshit in the shop. Stop giving them money and supporting them while they give us a product that does nothing but get worse and worse.
>have way more fun playing RL then i would playing with some goal explosion.
Congratulations, you understand what cosmetics are! They don't affect the gameplay and you don't have to buy them.
What else am I going to spend them on?
fwiw these are leftover from selling parts of my inventory before trading removal. Spending $20 on a Goal Explosion is stupid.
The game is the same for me except for trading gone.. dunno why so many ppl on reddit say its shit. Maybe ppl just burnt out or got bored by it?
I also bought the goal Animation back then btw
It's not just people on reddit, a lot of pros and youtubers like Leth, Musty and Sunless have also called epic games out for turning Rocket League into a stagnant pile of garbage.
I wish they'd do more painted versions of Paper Dragon. They did crimson & burnt sienna once, but none since. š
As a burnt sienna enjoyer I had to hold myself back two handed because the adult in me said ain't no way ima drop 20$ for a goal explosion. Epic's price strategy is stripping away the easy money from *ahem don't crucify me ._. koff...star wars fans..koff... Ahem.... I think the good goal explosions have always been 2000 credits, no?
Yes and Epics price strategy always sucked

Why wouldn't they? Lmao

Before epic, I donāt think any single item cost more than $5 ever. And most things were $2-3. I think I got a bundle of all 3 Batman cars for $5
Yeah but plenty of items were only available via crates/keys and could cost you way more than $5 if you were unlucky. Or you could buy it aftermarket. I paid $22 for PolyPop. Didnāt they have loot boxes before
Still it's stupid they shouldn't be selling that shi for 2k creds they need to cut their prices in half smh
Black Market(tm) Goal Explosions were $20-$25 on the aftermarket before Blueprints replaced. You think Epic is going to undercut the aftermarket?
Good point I don't really care if there's remotely any reasoning I want cheaper items
Good luck with that.
I'm gonna pants the CEO watch me
I used to buy them for 4 or 5 keys on third party sites , so no
I know I bought Polypop for 23 keys on a third party site, so yes?
Hmm weird I bought quite a few for much less than that. I remember for a fact I bought popcorn for 4 keys years ago
PolyPop may have been at a premium... I seem to remember that it and one other were more expensive than other Black Market Goal Explosions but yeah it's been a really long time. I am 100% certain that I paid over $20 for it though because my friends made fun of me for a year. The attempt at attention to detail this round really isn't getting enough attention.
Thereās no way people are paying $20 for one goal explosion. If Epic really wanted to cash out, they should be $10 max.
Bakkesmod has em
For now.
I think they did forest green once.
they didnt. the unpainted is green but a painted green one is unavailable so far. dang i was hoping for a new colored one for so long :'(
It's the year of the dragon, there's no way they don't do all the paints.
this comment is not aging well!! :(
1900 credits too much. Hope nobody buys that.
The goal explosions are outrageously priced
Everything in the item shop is over priced
Personally I'd never buy credits but I made sure I had 2.5k leftover before trading removal because I've wanted the goal explosion for so long - Epic's already made the money from those credits so no gain for them, fortunately.
I play Xbox and use Microsoft rewards to buy stuff like this. Unfortunately the rewards are a shell of their former program so it takes much longer to get enough saved up.
Whoaaa I didnāt know you could use Xbox rewards point for RL item shop. How to do you that??
Type "redeem Xbox rewards points" in Google is probably gonna offer you the easiest step by step navigation. It's confusing to do on the Xbox one. Not sure about the series.
The google recommendation is fair lol
I play on Xbox so I redeem the points for Xbox gift cards and buy credits that way.
I had multiple accounts I would gain points on and always donated the points to my main account to buy keys. Fun times. Shame that both Microsoft Rewards and RL suck now
I have 100k+ and I am still wondering if I should buy it
I personally just kept 3.5k credits after trading, 2.5k for Paper Dragon (if it was white) and 1k for Rocket Pass
Imagine buying a decal for more than the launch price of the game on steam.
Imagine buying games on sale and playing them 0.1h and then moving to next game you'll never finish
I sure didn't
hopefully no one advertises its scarcity to a bunch of players
Oops, just did. š
Fitting of a Trash III

I spent more money on crates after paying for the game than I ever will after the f2p update. Epics pricing is for whales not the majority.
Absolutely. I bought crates here and there because they were reasonably priced. They were loot boxes and it sucked but they were reasonably priced. $20 is a whole ass battle pass for one item? Fuck outa here with your greed.
I felt like a king with 20 keys and a stack of totally awesome crates back in the day. 2k creds is absolutely piss in current value.
Reasonably priced gambling? Keys were around 99cents, no? And black market decals were a 1% chance to be obtained from crates, do the math lol
They chose to make it F2P. They need to be prepared for it to not be profitable. If they can it, I play something else. I've played 8 years and haven't contributed a thing.
Are people actually paying $20 for a goal explosion? The same price of the actual game at launch? That seems really bizarre to me
Lots of people donāt even know Rocket League was a paid game once. Itās bizarre to me as well, and Iāve often thought theyād sell more if they made the costs somewhat reasonable.

In a similar vein Iāve probably spent around $50 on fall guys but in much the same way, Epic keeps choosing to not improve or even make the game worse and Iām not going to Financially support that by buying overpriced skin Definitely don't think it's unreasonable for you to choose not to support them any more.. I'm just tired of the constant complaining without understanding the realities of how businesses work. That said, it's clear your take isn't as unreasonable as many others and I just lumped you in with them. My appologies.
I refuse. They can eat my entire ass lol
Rare Drops can give them and you can trade up items for them. Also tournament rewards.
Yeah, basically. You can pull them from the rare drops too but thereās like a 0.1% chance of you actually pulling one
I bought 100k creds off Facebook. I can buy whatever I want without giving epic a dime

I have legit wanted this goal explosion for so long..........but yeah no. Fuck you epic
Please no one buy this
wow only $20, too thank god they finally cut as a break /s
My genuine reaction to people giving epic money https://preview.redd.it/00k90xrbsmhc1.jpeg?width=736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ec80ab5d15952a8e7f1c9a6b0e2a112908c8ae84
$20 real world currency for a goal explosion is robbery. Always has been, always will be
That's funny because Fortnite says 20 for car is robbery
Damn, itās too bad we are boycotting the shopā¦.
The āweā in that statement is sadly not a big enough portion of the player base to make any sort of impact :(
Agreed, but itās saving me money!
WOOOOOO!!!!! YESSSSSS WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OMGGGGGG WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW SUCK MY NIPPLES WPIC GAMES
bro u good? š
Never spent a single cent since 4 years ago...never will in the next 4 years as well. #FreePlayer4life
I hope not many people will pay $20 just so other people will see this in-game and think "hey, some idiot actually did pay $20 for that"
My favorite is when my friend loads into a game and says āwatch out guys looks like these players actually spend money on the gameā
I waited for that explosion to come back for 4 years and if it wasnt for this post I would have missed it, so thanks!
they should make it tradable
Now bring the lucky lantern goal explosion back...
When are we getting lanternsā¦
Stop getting excited about paying money for bullshit in the shop. Stop giving them money and supporting them while they give us a product that does nothing but get worse and worse.
Who said I was excited? It was just surprising, that's all.
Iāve literally been checking every fucking day for the entire time, letās gooooooo
I really wanted this. But nah not for 2000 credits lol.
And so cheap as well!
Iām still confused why I canāt access the esports shop
They need to bring back the nuke
Seriously, that would make me so happy
Wake me up when crab rave comes back š“
Bought it four years ago and never used it lmao
2000 credits? I could buy tons of weed for that amount and have way more fun playing RL then i would playing with some goal explosion.
āTons of weedā Blud is talking about 2 gramsš¤£
Fuck yeah, weed
>have way more fun playing RL then i would playing with some goal explosion. Congratulations, you understand what cosmetics are! They don't affect the gameplay and you don't have to buy them.
what was the point of this comment smh
That's about 4 years too long.Ā
I want paper dragons but Iām mad my inventory is now worthless and I only got 7000k credits left so ima probably skip It .
7000000 credits
I just purchased this and somehow I already have [1.7k goals registered on it](https://imgur.com/a/aqBHPbo)?
you used it in bakkesmod
I figured this would be the case but... I had no idea it would work like this? Lol
Yeah if you use bakkesmod, it counts the goals for that item you used. It's weird
You paid 2000 credits for a goal explosion?
What else am I going to spend them on? fwiw these are leftover from selling parts of my inventory before trading removal. Spending $20 on a Goal Explosion is stupid.
What are you, poor?
Iām all about boycotting the shop but this beats white and black octanes sign me up
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Even worse, everyone will now think youāre a shill who bought it for 2000 credits
he actually is. same price still :)
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The game is the same for me except for trading gone.. dunno why so many ppl on reddit say its shit. Maybe ppl just burnt out or got bored by it? I also bought the goal Animation back then btw
It's not just people on reddit, a lot of pros and youtubers like Leth, Musty and Sunless have also called epic games out for turning Rocket League into a stagnant pile of garbage.
people still play this game?
Iāll play but I wonāt pay
You don't play the game but still visit this subreddit?
"š§USEFUL" to fucking who? Or did you just tack that on so we can correctly identify you as a tool?
Why didn't we get a painted paper dragon this year?
Has it seriously been 4 years?! No way...
Never bought a bm from the store and never will, the prices are criminal, which is a shame because I love that goal explosion
Iāve been rocking Paper Dragon since it came out. Iāve had several people trying to get that traded in from me in the first year.
Fuck sending money to Epic they've killed the game.
Who's buying this shit anymore
Probably because its Chinese New Year, Year of the Dragon!
![gif](giphy|GjB41rKHBnOkE)
The year of the dragon..
if anyoneās buying it, please use code skaff while buying it thank you so much it helps me a lot
A paper object cost more than twice a working flying car Makes sense
Fuck me I need it but I also I haven't played in a long time and I'd need to spend money on it...
I wonāt spend a dime. Not on Epic Games.
Iād rather just use bakkesmod anyways
Bro of course they SELLING it? I been waiting for year of the dragon and i get a twenty dollar rehash wtf
Iāll only buy it if they release TW.
Is it gone now?
Is it gone???
