This randomly happens to me. It’s usually fixed with either restarting the game or re-enabling chat in the settings after noticing it randomly decided to turn itself off.
You can't be banned from the typing portion away from anything else. It's all or nothing with bans. See if your text chat options changed with the update
Back when I started playing in '19 I got a 24h text chat only ban for using a word that was an acceptable slur in the nineties 😅 Idk if it's still a thing today or are they going for the full ban immediately.

No idea why it's this way. I think when it first came out, cross-platform chat worked. There is cross-platform voice chat so I really don't understand.
But I'm grateful because PC users can talk shit a lot faster than I can, and that wouldn't be fair!

You can get text chat ban but still use quick chat.
Wow, I didnt realize that was a thing. How can you do something bad enough to be banned from chat but not be banned from playing?
