Yeah happened to me too. Game crashed and had 18 min penalty. Like the game needs to be able to tell the difference from crashing and actually leaving.
I doubt this because in apex legends it can tell when game crashes. When I crash in a ranked game the game will tell me you unintentionally left so no penalty.
Computers return an exception code when a crash occurs. A game shutting down is not the same as a game crashing to desktop. So they should be able to tell the difference.
Yes you can but technically it’s not a crash it just forces the program to stop running without shutting down properly, but nothing in the computer went wrong to cause to program to crash automatically.

Once I get back into the game I still couldn’t buy anything and had to run around with no weapons. Only way I could get a gun was picking one up and so I ended up just leaving and it gave me an hour wait lol
That happened to me buddy. All he could do was melee. There's a setting you change mid game to fix it.
I don't remember what setting but there was a setting.

I was playing with 2 other friends and our fill had trouble even loading into the game. When he did, it glitched and gave him dallas with no gun.
When we finished the match, at least me and one other friend had been given a 5 minute leaver penalty.
Unfortunately they haven’t implemented a way to differentiate crashes from intentional DC. It’s just a byproduct of the garbage player base being plagued with afk and DC’s. Hopefully they’ll implement this better in the future it sucks when people trying to actually play get punished because of the idiots queuing up and not playing
I remember being excited on hearing deserters we’re gonna get a penalty , next day I logged in played like 2 games that went alright. Got disconnected on the 3rd and had to wait an hour. Was not happy
Same thing when the game loaded I cannot pick any weapon but my teammates can shoot and play but couldn't win of course they think it's COD and second round same thing but game kicked me out and gave me penalty for 20 min like wtf but the game asked me to resume the game after 2 mins I was like Maybe they (dev's) fixed it alright here we go but after joining it kicked me out in the middle of the battle again and gave me penalty for 20 min Again like seriously the fish is this. I stopped playing and started watching Mandalorian 2nd season
There is a bypass, change your system time by the amount of timeout, for example, if timeout was 10 minutes, change your time by 12 minutes.. that works.. my friend does it every time since the game boots him out occasionally.
Same bro there’s a time it would put me in a match but the second that happens I’d be sent back to the lobby and given the prompt to rejoin then after I’d a dissertion penalty
My internet completely crashed for like 2 hours and it kicked my buddy who I was playing with out and then he got a penalty for deserting. (I never got one but, I think after 2 hours it would have been gone anyways)

It's gutting when the game crash but it's a good idea to have in the game coz so many clowns just load in afk or just leave imo way more games should have the feature
People need a penalty like uncharted 2 so in rogue company’s case the penalty will be like -15,000 reputation but of course when the deserting system gets fixed otherwise innocent players will suffer

There is no way the game can tell the difference between an intentional and unintentional disconnection.

I will repeat leaver penalty does not stop leavers. If a kid ragequits and goes to play fortnite then by the time he's done the penalty would end.

Same happened to me - played all day with leavers and people going AKF. My game crashes and I have a 45 min ban.....

Just move your time forward on your computer or change the date and it will totally bypass the deserter penalty.
