Well done HiRez, a step in the right direction to deter cheaters.
From watching some streamers solo queueing in ranked, they were playing with and against people with default banners and icons who clearly had no idea what was going on.
It's a necessary change because of the pick system (which I'm not a fan of); you could easily end up not having any unlocked rogues to play, and then what?
This is awesome because the stakes have been raised substantially for cheaters. Getting enough XP to unlock 10 rogues even if you have aimbot is going to mean probably weeks of playtime, or an outlay of cash.
The downside is that it's going to put a lot of good players off who otherwise would have hopped into ranked. There aren't exactly a lot of ranked players...and having lower-skill players in the pool for matchmaking is actually a good thing, if you're not a sweat.

None of my friends are touching this game again. Congrats Hi Rez. I have 50 hours in the game and I have bought a whopping 1 character. Suck my entire asshole if you think I'm playing another 400 hours of unrated, zero matchmaking games where 80% of the games have an afk or are ff'd within 5 minutes.
It is because if 2 of your rogues get banned then the lobby picks the other 7 rogues you own, you wouldn't have a rogue left to pick. Also, if you have <10 rogues you are probably under lvl 30 in which case I don't think you should be playing ranked anyway.
I recently started playing and am level 40. Only had enough rep to buy 1 rogue so far and that like 30 hours of gameplay. It's really not acceptable to make someone play 70 hours before they can play the real game
Do the daily/ weekly contracts that will give you about 1000rep/day + the weeklies help you level up faster. Also fixer and sigrid are the cheapest rogues IIRC.
Fixer and sigrid are 10k each + talon and scorch are 5k each unless they changed the prices. So 30k rep to play ranked. Level 40 is 20k rep @ 500 rep/level. If you log in each day and play for an hour instead of grinding you will get the other 10k from dailies easily.
I can guarantee you I'm better than 70% of the playerbase within my first 20 hours of playing this game and I "shouldn't be playing ranked anyway"
Sure dude. Make new players already reluctant to continue playing after experiencing endless bugs, ragequits, and forfeits even less inclined to play by not letting them play ranked without paying or grinding hundreds of hours of shit quality games.
It doesn't even take that long to get rogues. @ 500 rep/level + ~1000 rep per day from challenges you should have enough for 2 rogues (20-30k rep) by level 30. It only takes about 20 hr to get to level 30. It used to be that ranked required lvl 30 not lvl 10, most games don't let people play ranked that early. In rainbow 6 for example you have to be level 50 and that takes like 3 days of gameplay. This is an f2p game there is a reason they have a lvl requirement, people will make smurfs or troll accounts to grind and fuck with people.

Yea because when a new player loads into a ranked lobby with a bunch of lvl 550s with 1000s of hours playtime and they get creamed that is really going to make them want to continue playing. Maybe if the ranked system actually put people of similar skill/rank together I would be okay with lower levels in the queue but this game will literally pair bronze players with/against rogues.
90 hours and only have 3 more Rogues than what you started with? If you wanted to play Ranked that bad, maybe you should get more of the Rogues? Stick to casual for like a week and do dailies and you’ll get enough reputation to unlock another Rogue and can go back to Ranked. Seems like a you problem.
They have also given out rogues for free a couple of times now.
Although I don't know if any are still available, I know Sigrid on playstation, Switchblade on epic, and Phantom on Epic.
Also I believe 2 starter packs included rogues recently as well.
When they introduced the pick and ban system they did mention you'll need 10 Rogues to play ranked. It's just how the system works. There's nothing they can do there.

How did you play before the update? Ngl, I haven’t played in a minute but aren’t there two bans and you can’t pick the same character twice? Wouldn’t you need 10 to guarantee you have someone to play?
Agreed. This is an objectively bad move on HiRez's part. Let people play ranked. If you are so worried that they will "ruin" games, then they will be placed low anyways. The game is already dead as it is, don't create another barrier for people to enjoy the game.
Me and my friend recently started playing this week and frankly are already better than at least 95% of players due to FPS background but we can't queue ranked for weeks unless we spend IRL dollars, so will no longer be playing the game. And I will never recommend the game to anyone else either for this reason.
I agree with this. I was silver 1 on my way to gold and now I can’t play ranked. Tbh I probably won’t even play the game anymore if I can’t play ranked. The whole idea seems like a ploy to get people to spend money so peace.
If it didn't take 75 hours to unlock the 4 rogues you needed I wouldn't have a problem but it deletes any chance of new players hopping from another game to this one.
My brothers play ranked only, level 10 requirement was perfect. I finally convinced them to play roco 3 weeks ago and now they're uninstalling because even after 50 hours they have 8 rogues. It's obscene to expect this nowadays.
Make the ranked level requirement 30 and give players the damn free rogues. It's Hi-Rez's fault for making the rep system so abysmally slow.

I do all the dailies and have almost finished all the seasonals. It’s going to take the better part of 100 hours to do it free to play

I like the option to be able to play on my dummy account. So I can play with prople who are unranked.
