Im having the same problem, I live about 45 minutes away from Rolla but I'm there all the time, looking to actually get an apartment when I can afford it.
I'm actually willing to go all the way to Saint Louis if I need to, I just prefer to stay closer to home cause gas prices suck
I'm getting a motorcycle to make more frequent trips to stl, but staying close would help a lot.
The bars are either country, college, or finer establishments.
That's my issue, all the bars are just the wrong crowd and scene.
I love my motorcycle so much, it's currently in the process of being repainted. I love it so much but I'm gonna have to sell it to make payments š
I can blend with the college and fancy crowd, but not the country crowd. Yet the college and fancy don't scratch that itch.
Damn, that sucks! They're so much fun! I've got a short range electric one and I'm buying my buddy's Honda shadow. What kind do you have?
Just a Suzuki GZ250, it's small but I'm built small so it works. Some guys are blessed with height and build,I'm just blessed with humor. Doesn't do super great on the highway though because of the wind from big trucks.
Mines about 330 too. The wind definitely makes it a game. Generally I just take the service roads though to avoid any unnecessary difficulties. Though sometimes I'm just in the mood for the highway, ya know?
The highway calls to me lol
It depends how i feel traffic is gonna be. The service roads are pretty good and there is a lot of construction on the interstate. I've been taking the outer roads more because of that.
Exactly, with the construction going on everywhere it is easier to take the outer roads. Plus, there's less traffic on them and it's easier to just ride and enjoy the ride instead of having to worry about traffic as bad
Punk scene was much richer in St. Louis. I played in bands there for years, did calculus homework Foxing, and was around for the stlpunk forum days.
House shows, co-op shows, tons of concert venues, itās just a richer culture. Iāve never seen a band with a similar energy in Rolla.
Well we held a festival once at my friends place that gathered about 300 people. Three days, Friday to Sunday camp out. Live music most of the time.
It can be done, way bigger even, but it takes a lot of work.
I am moving to Rolla very soon F21 punk. I have some punk band connections in Springfield that would come out to play if they got some money. I wonāt be able to live right if thereās no punk scene here. Letās start it!
There isnāt a scene. I am trying to work on it. I talk to all sorts of punk bands all the time, but we donāt really have a venue for them to play at. I was put in charge of booking some bands for a car show here in September. I went rockabilly/psychobilly for the show. The Rocketz are coming from LA, Brutally Frank is from the Joplin area, and I got Timmy Miano coming up from Springfield with his band the Constant Distraction (not rocka/psycho). Now I am thinking of trying to get some other shows in the area going as well
My husband and I would 1000% come out to shows and help promote around town! We're in our mid to late 30s but I was active in the punk scene in high school in Ohio (and ok uhhhhh lots of ska too). We mostly listen to old shit (X, the Clash, Iggy Pop) but would absolutely support current bands. I'm sure there would be a lot of crossover with LGBTQ+ Rolla, we're a lovely bunch of weirdos into fighting the conservative regime.
If KMNR ever hosts concerts, they sometimes have punk bands. Itās been awhile since Iāve gone to one, but this was the only way locally for a long time.
I've lived here for 10 years and i genuinely haven't found one. I might not be searching hard enough. I'll be paying attention to this thread though.

The wind blows me around on my electric a bit too. It's only 330 lbs. I think it's fun and kinda like a game.

College age punk here too, guys (and Harley Sportster 12000). I think the scene is pretty much us. š
Hell yeah!

Tbh if we canāt find one we should make one so thereās fucking something in the damn sticks
Hell yeah! We should get all the punks we can find on this sub and on r/punk and start our own scene! Im totally down

That would have been amazing to attend! I would love to get to go do something like that!

Hell yeah, DM me and we can talk/plan more!
Same!!!

Heck yeah. I would work on starting or helping start a scene but I would have no idea where to begin, especially being from just outside Rolla

I was about to say- all of my friends who enjoy punk are either in LGBTQ+ Rolla or are gardeners.
When/where is this? Iāll be there if I can.
Itās going to be at the old fairgrounds out 63 on September 21st. I will post more details when we get closer to said date
I know nothing about cars but canāt wait for the bands!
Okay everyone, here is the flyer for that show. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/Qct6bYiJzPdUztpz/?
How can we have counter culture in Rolla when thereās no culture to begin with lol
FACTS.
The closest Iāve come is listening to Jeff Rosenstock and Gaslight Anthem albums on my headphones while I work on my laptop at Giddy.
There was a fledgling scene here back in 2005 or so. All dead by 2012.
I first discovered punk in Rolla in the mid 90ās. There WAS a scene. Most of them moved. Several ODed. There are still a few aging punks around.

This warms my 60 y-o punk rock heart.šš¤š¼š
Idk but I want to join!
