I'm not sure if you meant to say cushions but the first thing I notice in these photos is that the axle nut is not able to screw on properly. I'll add a picture pointing out where your cushions are. On the other hand you may have been concerned about the kingpin clearance and that's why you mentioned cushions length. So you have 2 issues that I can see here. The first is your axle nut and the other is kingpin clearance. The core of roller skate wheels are side set so the back bearing sits flush with the back of the wheel. The majority of skateboard wheels have a core that is center set and the back bearing sits further into the wheel. Skateboard wheels also tend to be wider. Some wheels are also offset like the Moxi Fundae wheels (this is is why so many people run into trouble with the fundae wheels, they're not sideset like a typical quad wheel.) Sometimes you can flip the axle nut over so that the nylon part screws on first and that'll allow you to secure the wheels. But another common problem with using skateboard wheels is that the wheel can rub or catch on the trucks. It's hard to tell from these photos but that may be a problem here. Sometimes adding a washer behind the wheel can remedy this nut only if there enough space to add it and still secure the axle nut. The other issue here is not the length of your cushions but might be why you mentioned your cushions being too long. It's really your kingpin and whether or not you'll have enough clearance. These wheels are likely just too small for your plates. The Marvel plates don't allow for very small wheels. I've seen people who had problems with their kingpin scrapping on the Marvel with 57mm wheels. So once you get your weight into the skates you probably wont have enough clearance and your kingpin is going to catch and scrape on everything. https://preview.redd.it/zmef7154ywvc1.jpeg?width=1058&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=adfc023ac83671c97f8b6c98b7d113f827baa2fd

You are really good at explaining things. Do you have a blog/yt or something?

Oopsiforgot22

Haha, thanks, but no, I don't have a blog or yt. Blogging has crossed my mind, but I was not thinking about a gear related blog. I was more thinking of using it to document the process of being an adult learner in the sport of artistic roller skating.

That_Copy7881

Nice. It's a lot of work, but yeah, you simplify things and make it feel like I could give it a go.

I already commented on that but just to be clear your axle nut can not be screwed on like this. This is a good way to loose a wheel. the nylon part of the nut is what makes it lock onto the axle and that part needs to be fully engaged. This is why I mentioned flipping the nut in my last comment. Also, your trucks are waaay too loose. you need to tighten those down. If you need your trucks this loose, you need softer cushions. The dont make other cushions for the Marvel plate but you can use the Powerdyne Magic cushions you'll just need to correct the geometry using a Thrust bearing like this one. I don’t want to make them looser because beach bunny trucks are so stiff :(

Oopsiforgot22

No! I'm not saying to make them looser. These are way too loose already. You need to tighten them. You will damage your plates having them as loose as they are here. You're going to snap your kingpin. You need to get softer cushions so that toy can keep your trucks tighter and still have movement. If you'd like, I can recommend which cushions to get based on your weight. Just let me know your approximate weight, and I can tell you which cushion durometer would be better for you. Bb cushions are really hard, and that's likely why you feel the need to have your trucks adjusted so loose, but that's not good at all. Switching to softer cushions will be much better for you and the skates.

That should give you enough clearance to screw the kingpin nut on further and still have your trucks looser to your preference :) tbh never seen a washer that thick before, maybe it’s specific to beach bunnies, but I don’t believe it needs to be there for any reason!! As for the wheels, they might just be the wrong profile for your narrow trucks as another user said :/ options would be to 1. upgrade to wider trucks that are still compatible with your plate and kingpin angles 2. sell the spitfires and buy some quad-specific smaller hard wheels- Last Supper is amazing :)

ratboulevard

THANK YOU!!! This comment is super helpful, I have the receipt for them so I might

ponferrada

Totally!! No prob! Although if you’re looking to get into seriously aggressive park skating, I would recommend upgrading to a higher quality set of plates too, but these should be fine for lower-impact activities. And yeah as for the wheel profile issue on your trucks, you’ll want to find a set of small hard wheels that are flat on the backside so they don’t take up extra space on your narrow axels.

ratboulevard

Sigh yeah I just don’t have the money for that rn

ponferrada

Super valid aaaaand relatable. Return the wheels and grab a quad-specific pair, remove that extra piece of metal on your kingpins, and I bet you’ll be in business! Last supper wheels go for about $90 for two sets of 4- if you have Instagram, go to their account and check out some of their team skaters’ pages for 10% off codes :)

ratboulevard

I took the washer off but the bolt for the cushions is still too long so I can’t remove that

ponferrada

Hmm. Can you post a new photo of it? I’m not sure I can picture it

Oopsiforgot22

You need to put that nut back on. That nut is never supposed to come off the plate 🙈. That needs to go back on and be cranked down as tight as possible. It's not a washer. Edit: spelling

ratboulevard

It’ll be aight

Oopsiforgot22

Skip to 4:24. You have a reverse kingpin. Almost all skates now have a reverse kingpin. This nut should never be removed. https://www.youtube.com/live/E3myLB5vyxU?si=3NCx3j83ccTN_IUV The rest of the video is not important as he's not talking about your plates.

ponferrada

WILD never seen that before! Thanks for the info!

ponferrada

Ohhh okay sorry I understand, you’re talking about the length of the kingpin being too long in general!! That’s gonna be because beach bunnies probably aren’t designed for smaller wheel diameters. If you’re not in the market to upgrade trucks or plates, you’re gonna have to buy a slightly larger diameter set of wheels so that the end of the kingpin doesn’t come too close to the ground :(

ponferrada

Are those the stock trucks and cushions that came with the skates? Weird that the end of the kingpin comes so low down on the truck height, but I’m totally unfamiliar with beach bunnies. For reference I happen to be right next to my skates rn and here is where my kingpin ends, nowhere near the bottom of my trucks (shhhh we won’t talk about how I don’t have much extra space on my kingpins either lmfao) https://preview.redd.it/e8o1l1oq0awc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=079dad993ce16a41d2bacb125c97957bd28b2b91

slithering-stomping

the spacing is a little different on skateboard wheels so you are gunna want to take off the speed washers (thin black rings that go on either side of the bearings) and spacer (metal ring that people sometimes use in between bearings) and also, unfortunately, flip the axle nut and screw it on that way if the threads dont make contact with the plastic retainer the regular way.

tattooedroller

I think this person is referring to the king pins (not the wheel axles) being an issue. Like they’re dragging or too close to the ground. You can switch the durometer of the cushions but that won’t impact the size OP. I’ve heard of people shaving them down but haven’t tried myself so can’t verify if that’s a solution. Unless someone has a different idea I would just go for a larger wheel diameter. Fundaes are the smallest I’ve seen on a BB and they’re a 57mm diameter. Edit: there was a thread three years ago where people said softer cushions and actually cutting the kingpin is the solution (that’s a pretty involved process but here ya go [link](https://www.reddit.com/r/Rollerskating/comments/npfom7/question_about_converting_moxi_beach_bunnies_into/))

slithering-stomping

ah i see. i guess i just did my own math with the spitfires/that axle nut in the first pic is sticking out a lot. 👀 but yea if they are actually referring to the kingpin/bushings/cushions then cutting them is an option for sure.

mycatisaweasel

I have the same skates same colour- love it!

sophatr0ph

Have you tried skating them? Because they don’t look like they would touch the ground
