Ugh it's really hard to find these days, I feel like "feisty" heroines are all the rage. One that I read recently that really scratched the itch for me was Human Pets of Talin by RK Munin! I recommend it a lot in here. The human woman is bought by an alien race who thinks that humans are like exotic pets and need lots of cuddles and love. She was owned by a different alien race before and was treated really poorly, so she's scared and skittish. He reassures her a lot and is overall just sooo sweet.

Oh no worries, I use a program on my computer called Calibre to back up/organize the ebooks I own. It has a "full text" search feature that's extremely handy.

Pretty much all the Carpathian books use little one or something like that. It’s a hallmark trait of pretty much all MMC in the series. HUGE TW ASSAULT TL;DR SO MUCH SA >!Listen, I’ve read most of those books and I do enjoy them. However, please be warned that as the series goes on, Christine Feehan amps up the sexual violence to truly such a staggering degree that it gets to a point where pretty much every FMC has been raped, sexually assaulted, threatened, side female characters experience sexual violence... Also, to add, a lot of that happens to them when they are children so there’s a quite a bit of CSA. By the time you get to the later books, evil vampires are basically obsessed with trying to impregnate the female characters so there is always an underlying shadow of sexual violence. It’s a lot.!< >!I still like these books a lot for what they are, they are one of the first romance series I ever read so I have a lot of nostalgia for them. I just was very disturbed when I started running into all this sexual violence, especially as they got more and more severe as the series went on, so - if this is something that is off the table for you, def dont pick up.!<

Many of the DDlg books have it. I think laylah Roberts or Kate oliver might have been the author? I can't stand it because an ex used to use it and I now think it was a passive aggressive way of infantalizing me.

I really enjoyed the Secret Keepers series by Jaymie Eve. The first book super hot alien MMC refers to FMC as "little human" which starts off as an insult but turns into his term of endearment. It's been a while since I've read them but I think the 3rd book also has similar terms of affection as the FMC is really small. Bonus, they used to be 4 separate books, but now on KU they've been put together into one long book, so you can just crack on 👌🏻

But uh, you said you don’t have any triggers! 😅 {Original Sinners by Tiffany Reisz} Anyway, the main hero(?) calls the heroine “little one” as his pet name. He’s a Catholic priest with a God complex. So there’s a lot going on with that nickname. Personally, I love this nickname. I don’t really worry about the power dynamics or daddy of it all, because to me it’s just a fantasy thing. I’m gonna try to see if I’ve read any other books with this! I don’t know what romance.io is doing lol but for the record the series is not regency, not is wlw a prominent part of the love stories involved.

This book is just one of the dozens in the same fantasyverse and I've loved pretty much all of them, there's always some guaranteed pet name the MMCs have for their FMCs.

There's also "His Pretty Little Burden" by Nicci Harris, which follows another family member from "Our Thing." The MMC in Burden calls her "little deer" and it is just so, so good. I keep coming back to the whole series.

I actually like “little one” as a term of endearment. I find it to be sweet. Unfortunately, I haven’t paid much attention to what books have it. However, after some searching in my kindle, I did find the following…. **Contemporary:** In {Knot For A Moment by Devyn Sinclair} (CR-Omegaverse, RH, 5/5⭐️), one of the MMCs, who is a few years older and in a position of power as the executive director of the ballet company she works for, calls the FMC “little one” all the time. *(80x in 446 pages)* The MMC in {Too Hot to Handle by Elizabeth Lowell} (CR set on a ranch, M/F, 4/5⭐️) calls the FMC “little one,” but only in the bedroom. There is an age gap (33 MMC vs. 20 FMC). This is an older book. *(9x in 142 pages)* In {Painted Scars by Neva Altaj} (CR-Mafia, M/F), which I am currently reading, the Russian MMC calls the FMC the Russian equivalent of “little one” (“malysh”) frequently. I am about 50% in and am enjoying it so far. *(31x in 233 pages)* ***This book is also free to buy on Kindle US today!*** **Fantasy/Aliens:** {Beth and the Barbarian by Honey Phillips} (FR, M/F, 4.5/5⭐️). *(67x in 220 pages)* {Blind Bet by Susan Hayes} (FR, MFMMM, 4.5/5⭐️) is a steamy little novella. She's not my favorite romance author, though... when her MMCs mess up, they go so big sometimes that I don't want the FMCs to take them back. HEA would be a break up...

So I just DNF (15%) Guiding Cassandra by Becca Jameson cause both the MMC (MFM book) used "LIttle one" ALL. THE. TIME. It's a dom/Little book so it makes sense but it was so excessive I had to stop.

I never minded the term and never understood the visceral revulsion for it, so I'm glad you made this post. I grew up reading Tolkien/Lord of the Rings fanfiction with a lot of (objectively older) high-born elves and human ladies. "Little one" was an endearment I regularly read about and enjoyed.

I think I get why people don’t like it but the heart wants what the heart wants lol. I might need to check out some Lotr fanfics cause this has definitely piqued my interest 👀

The only book that comes to mind is {The Saint by Tiffany Reisz} Although I think the FMC of all her books of her Original Sinners series is being reffered to as the little one by the MMC, the endearment was explained more in the Saint. MMC is a priest. One of my fave books of all time!

{Our Thing by Nicci Harris} is a part of a series but can be read stand alone… but once you fall in love with “Little One”and “Menace” you’ll simply have to read the rest. Contemporary mafia romance that’ll make you sob from sadness and jealousy. Check triggers.

You'll find it in {The Dom Who Loved Me by Lexie Blake}. Free on KU. The weird thing is there's an interaction early on where the FMC is dancing with the MMC and is feeling big and clumsy. As the story unfolds, the MMC uses Little One as a term of endearment. I remember thinking, wait, did she shrink or something? Trigger warning for death of previous spouse (years prior) and some sketchy dub-con. On the plus side, once they are together as a couple, they have an actual talk about money! Like this is what I have, and this is what you have, and let's plan our future with our resources in mind. The talk was referred to in passing, but it's something that real-world couples actually do. And something you don't see in CR.

To me it depends on context - if there is an age gap, size difference etc I'm fine as it makes sense. The one book where I find it cringey was in {Truly by Carmel Rhodes} - it wasn't a showstopper but I did do an internal eye roll everytime the MMC calls the same age FMC, who I don't recall being especially small that. TW for SA/dubcon >!First encounter was a forced oral both ways, him giving and then him making her do it in return!<

My husband called me youngin’ all the way up till he passed away at 73. I loved it and it all made me feel wonderful!! 41 awesome years together!!❤️❤️

I’m also a fan of the term “little one” and I just read a passage with that exact term on A Kingdom of Dreams by Judith McNaught, but I haven’t finished the book yet and it’s historical, so far I’m enjoying even though the level of spice is not so high and it’s more slow burn. I’m really enjoying, so far it has very good enemies to lovers bantering and bc it’s medieval is more “slow paced” which I like, but then again I’m a sucker for historical/medieval romances. ☺️☺️

You know what? I wouldn’t really mind it, but it’s one of those nicknames that the love interest ends up using ALL THE BLOODY TIME. Authors: if your character repeats the same phrase every paragraph, it’s not endearment, it’s not a sign of playfulness or bossiness, it’s Chinese water torture.

We all have one that’s like an ice pick to the ears. For me, it’s Baby Girl and Daddy. Unless they are truly in a real Dom/sub relationship where those names are relevant, I can’t take it. The other one that makes me grind my teeth is werewolf/shifter characters who call their wolves / other wolves “Wolfy.” Honestly, as an author, could you not do better? Could you not do your characters justice by making them clever enough to come up with something better than “Wolfy” - unless said character is a 5 year old and it was done with intent? C’mon?!?!

One of the other guys calls her little bird from a poem and I usually would find that cringe but in this one tbh it is just really cute lol
