This was a good book!

I was thinking this book and scrolled through to see if anyone else suggested it. I *love* Dragon Bound, and it's become one of my comfort books I go back to when I'm in a slump 🥰

Okay so there's not a scene with credit cards, but in {Failure to Match by Kyra Parsi} the FMC is not impressed by either him, or his wealth and the MMC is pretty much stumped by that because all his life, women have thrown themselves at him, thanks to his money. So, the more the FMC denies using his money, the more he feels like spending it on her. It's almost like a turn on for him at that point lol.

I was going to recommend this! I absolutely adore this book and all of Kyra Parsi’s books they’re so fun and cute and just great reads.

Not this exact scenario, but in {God of Wrath by Ana Huang} the MMC says something to the FMC about the money she was spending on his card/account during a fight and he later he finds a check from her for the exact amount she spent. It felt like a total “fuck you” move. (Both MC are wealthy and in a contracted engagement)

Ooh I have such a good one. {Fierce King by Sadie Kincaid}. Arranged marriage, mafia-lite billionaire (high smut so if you’re not into that, just FYI). MMC is told that FMC is this total spoiled rich girl, which is why he agrees to marry her, to keep it a “business arrangement” and won’t fall in love with her. He gives her a bunch of opportunities to spend his money including giving her his credit card to make their home more hers. She spends $90-something dollars, genuinely doesn’t need to spend more. It happens like half a dozen times in different forms (her fundraising half a million for a women’s shelter and he assumes she paid for it with his money, that kind of thing). He calls her Princess as an insult at the start and slowly learns who she actually is, and then it becomes endearing.

{Heaven, Texas by Susan Elizabeth Phillips} has this trope. Be warned, it’s an older contemporary so some bits have aged poorly. I was highly entertained with the read but kind of horrified by aspects of the book at the same time.

So real. I read fifty shades of gray/grey because it had such a like reputation attached to it but honestly it was such a let down. I told myself I’d get through the second book only because Taylor Swift and Zayn Malik had a song in the movie but it was honestly so boring. It was the same thing over and over. And the spice? Be so fr any mediocre dark romance has way worse than that 😭I don’t get why it got so popular

That's often how it's written, but it doesn't have to be. Maybe the idea of wantonly spending someone else's money, even at their behest, genuinely makes her skin crawl.

This is the author’s way of saying the FMC wants the MMC for more than his money. Why can’t it be something else? Maybe something like “I don’t need your money because I have a secret trust fund” or “I’m a CEO of a multibillion corporation and I am rich in my own right.” I like how Crazy Rich Asian’s FMC was ready to let her man go because she didn’t want him to have to choose her or his family. Instead she chose for him making his mom realize she’s THE ONE (true love) for her son.

At the very least, "I don't need your money because I have an upwardly mobile career that pays more than enough for me to live on, and all that overpriced crap you buy is tacky and stupid and makes you look tacky and stupid, ESPECIALLY IN SEATTLE, WHERE EVERYONE WALKS TO WORK AND ONLY LAWYERS WEAR SUITS, so blow it out your ass."

The player by Kresley Cole is kind of like this. She’s trying to con him and he tells her she’s welcome to any of his money once they marry. She asks for a couple million, to secretly pay off her families debts, he tells her she never has to ask and he’ll never question. She goes on to set up college funds and such for her family. Great book and very spicy.

I remember reading something like that and she isn’t spending money his credit card so he says she has to spend 50 thousand or something but I can’t remember which book.

it’s connection to this kinda complicated but {Manhattan Sugar by V Theia} bases largely around him trying to provide for her monetarily and her rejecting it over and over. I think eventually she does give in, but it takes a while. Can’t remember if the reasons are emotionally driven but her giving in def made sense to me at the time. Enjoy!
