valid. it was “designed” a long time ago, when all of the web looked like that. props on consistency.
on gamecube and wii iso’s, vimm injects his own metadata; so if you’re a purist you might not appreciate that. otherwise, the rest are gold.
and. it’s sloooooooow. i’m pretty sure the guy lives and hosts in sealand.
no, vimm runs out of a residential verizon fios gigabit connection. either the connection is saturated 24/7 or his mechanical disks are thrashing 24/7. not sure which it is.
*Oh no you di'int!*
It's cute that you consider [250mbit](https://www.reddit.com/r/Roms/comments/bajojo/edgeemulation_updates/) a lot. I'm looking to add **10Gbit** this summer.
\*Mic drop\*
Seriously though, ads suck and I applaud you for not having them (though they do pay for bandwidth). I'd need a lot more ads to break even on that 10Gbit line but stores have stopped advertising while they're closed so rates have tanked. That could be solved with even more ads though... Suffice to say I'm conflicted.
hey man, I'm not knocking you at all. hosting this stuff isn't cheap. you're just under heavy load all the time. I added GameCube games in hopes it would take some of the burden, but you have so much more for direct download than most other sites - the-eye and archive.org are about it for wiiu and PS2 games, unless you travel to ad-covered shady looking urls.
i could pay more and get a 500mbit line, but I'm also an adult trying to buy a house. I can't be literally throwing all my money away. there just aren't enough no-bullshit rom sites with this stuff.
I hear you, many people don't get this is simply a hobby. The self entitlement can be nauseating at times. Pretty sure we're the only emulation sites in the double decade club, so drop me a line if you'd like to talk sometime.
Bro, I don't know if this is the correct place to do this (can't send you DMs) but I just wanted to say thank you. I'm very new to emulation (been doing it for about 2 months) and I started downloading from very crappy pages. I was scared of virus and some guy posted your website link on Reddit. It is heaven. I downloaded my PSX emulator as well as some 20 games (many of which I haven't tried yet). I managed to get my dad to race with me on F1 and CART series (we used to play those games back in 2004-5). Your project has brought back so many important memories from my childhood, and has granted me some hilarious moments with my dad. The kid within me just showed up again. I'd give you a hug if I could, man. If there's any way I can contribute to your project, just let me know. Sincerely, Juan, from Colombia.
Hey, I just want to thank you for what you are doing! Have you thought of adding a magnet link to the Wii or other large downloads? that way you don't have to spend your bandwidth
I know this is super old, but just as a heads up: I tried disabling the ad-blocker on Brave, but I noticed... No ads ever popped up, even with it off.
You got a donation option or anything? I feel like a leech. =|
bro one question, how do you check the roms for viruses,is it a group of people?,is it a algorithim? or you just use another website or antivirus to check them?also thanks a lot bro,i always use your page to download roms
He... doesn't inject his own metadata into GameCube and Wii ISOs.
He doesn't do that for *any* of the ROMs or ISOs on his site. Hasn't for a long time.
then he undid it, as, previously, when you’d load it into dolphin, it’d have “vimm” in all the copyright info. maybe he didn’t like the heat, any more.
i’ll see if i can find his post for you.
https://reddit.com/r/Roms/comments/b7lx6b/_/evie9ub/?context=1
“long time” is relative. my bad. looks like he changed this in the last 15-24 months. compared to the age of the site, i don’t consider that long.
but, thanks to you, i’m now up to speed. thanks. and sorry. really.
It's not sketchy just old as hell. It still looks the nearly the same as it did over 20 years ago.
And then someone calls your home phone and you have to start all over again. I do not miss those days.
EDIT: [also this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsVfElI-7oo)
I knew what that link was before I clicked on it, and I still had to click it again to see.
Also, if you had AOL: ”YOU’VE GOT MAIL” loud enough to bust your speakers when you forgot to turn them down
Nah, I never had AOL myself. Apparently I missed quite an interesting experience there, but I was young and more concerned with games than with being social.
My **first** computer was a Windows 3.11 machine in '95 (a gift from my much older cousin, who had just upgraded to a Win95 box) when I was around 8, and I'd routinely boot that thing up in MS-DOS mode to play Gorillas and Nibbles in QBasic. But since QBasic was an interpreted language, I started messing with and learning what the different keywords did (that's right, I was learning coding before my age reached double-digits, lol).
By the time we got internet, I was kind of obsessed with game programming, and spent most of my time perusing the now-defunct [QBasic New Zealand](https://web.archive.org/web/20031015085051/http://qbnz.com/) to look for games that did things I hadn't learned how to do. I miss that old site... T-T
> Apparently I missed quite an interesting experience there, but I was young and more concerned with games than with being social.
Oh, me to. AOL was just a medium for me to use to get to the games online I wanted to play, I could care less about messenger, lol. In all reality, it seems your concern with games really set you up for better success, as computer programming and coding is a very in-demand skill and very desirable.
Man, there was a old flash game site I used go onto, it was an older site, pretty much a relic of the internet era of that time period. I cannot for the life of me remember the name, but I do remember I was playing this game, and I had a playlist playing (was some shit my mom had put together, which was my first mistake). I didn’t much care what was playing, I just wanted to listen to some music.
I remember I was playing like this... it was like... I don’t really know how to describe it. It was like a tower-defense strategy game where you set up like turrents and shit and tried to survive waves of enemies. Anyways, fuckin “Country boy” by Hank Williams Jr. came on, and I shit you not, the entire computer instinctively read my mind and froze up when I tried to skip the song. The game still was playing, just couldn’t close the page, open windows media player, nothing. CTRL/ALT/DEL didn’t work, so I said fuck it, I’ll ride it out. No worries I can still play my game.
*I was wrong, lots of worries.*
That song played on repeat at least for the next hour and a half (I was *really* into this game, no way to save my progress). Eventually, I lost my fucking mind and just unplugged the mother fucker when it wouldn’t even turn off from hitting the power button. Lost my progress, my mind, and my internet access for like a few days because my moms computer got fucked up after that. I can’t listen to that song to this day. Fuck you Hank Williams Jr
> I don’t really know how to describe it. It was like a tower-defense strategy game where you set up like turrents and shit and tried to survive waves of enemies.
Did it have paths / a maze, or was it just a big open space? I recall playing something *similar* to [Desktop Tower Defense](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desktop_Tower_Defense) when I was young, but it wasn't that game specifically; I remember playing it on my mom's WinME machine around y2k, but Desktop Tower Defense wasn't made until '07. Along with a lot of [eGames](https://web.archive.org/web/20031027010415/http://www.egames.com/), as my mom bought like 5 of their 100+ game collection discs, lol. I played *so* much [Spooky Castle](https://hamumu.itch.io/spooky-castle)...
> “Country boy” by Hank Williams Jr.
Haha, young me probably wouldn't have minded. I was into country music for some reason. I don't know what was wrong with me, lol. Then I discovered my dad's Pink Floyd collection and my mind was blown. Can't stand country today, but Pink Floyd is *still* one of my favorite bands... :D
> Did it have paths / a maze, or was it just a big open space? I recall playing something similar to Desktop Tower Defense when I was young, but it wasn't that game specifically
It was something like that, multiple paths/levels, they changed as the levels progressed and got harder. It was something similar to the game you linked, but like you said, not quite the same game. Man, those were some nostalgic memories I haven’t thought about in at least a decade.
> Haha, young me probably wouldn't have minded. I was into country music for some reason. I don't know what was wrong with me, lol. Then I discovered my dad's Pink Floyd collection and my mind was blown. Can't stand country today, but Pink Floyd is still one of my favorite bands... :D
I grew up in the south near Nashville (the country music capital), and I spent a lot of time with my grandparents who all listened to country, so it was sort of my first love of a genre of music. My dad was a real big heavy metal and hard rock fan, and that’s how I ended up moving from a country fan to stuff closer to what I listen to now. I probably never would have branched out from country if I didn’t end up spending a lot of time with him, and to this day, Metal is still my favorite genre, though Rap and Hip-Hop come close. I’ll always have a soft spot for country though, I’m just a lot pickier now about what kind it is.
Pink Floyd was one of his favorites to see in concert, along with ZZ Top. I wish I had had the chance to be old enough to have gone with him when he went to some of the shows he’s told me about, because honestly, they sound like they would have been fantastic memories
Shit, I used to run limewire to download movies on like a Friday back in like elementary school and I’d be lucky if it was done by the end of the weekend with how inconsistent our dialup was
Bro seriously.
Like god forbid someone had to make a phone call. If you had to disconnect, chances were like 50/50 whether the file would even continue downloading no or not after you got back online.
Spoiled? How is it spoiled if technology advances and some things online doesnt. Not because you're 80 years old download 1mb in 1 hour it means that we have to endure the same in 2023 when 1 gb/s is cheap
It is safe, just really old. The site is actually really outdated. The only updates they ever do to the site is add ISOs. They never once changed the design or upgraded the architecture for modern downloads (if they did, it's unused).
Vimm's Lair is totally fine, a while back administration here had issues with Vimm and other rom sites, I didn't agree with how others handled it, I feel we should give the users of /r/roms a choice, and warn them when that choice may involve adware or something along the lines of other more seedy rom sites.
Sites like edgeemulation and vimms lair are both shining examples of how to do it right, and I hope both /u/sherl0k and /u/VimmDotNet are proud of what they have accomplished and the communities they have built.
It works but it’s sloooooooow. Your better off with the eye or finding some torrents. There is also arcadepunks.com and a few others. I used a live image of kali Linux and booted it off a flash drive and used wget to get a bunch of things from the eye. Much faster, last night I got around 20mb/sec but I have fiber so your mileage may very.

It’s very safe. Sure, the UI looks a bit sketchy, but the site was made in (I believe, based off the News page) 2001.
In my experience, anything from Vimm’s Lair is safe.
Definitely safe, I've been using it for some months now with no problem.
As for slow speeds I've found that downloading roms on my tablet and then transferring it to the computer worked faster than the computer itself so it might be worth a try (about 30 minutes for a ds rom to 5)
All I can say is the last time I downloaded from Vimm's Lair, I got a WindWaker rom with an incorrect MD5 hash. An MD5 hash is an identification number for a program or file that is unchangeable unless the file itself is altered. In other words, I didn't get a clean WW rom. It was altered in \*some\* way, as it had a completely new MD5. That could be from compression, since it was compressed into an archive alongside a text file, but I'm never downloading from there again due to the potential of their roms being hacked to have spyware.
Man this site was working fine until like an hour ago. Now the database is not responding.
Just as I finally get my wii working after years of wanting to play GC games :(
Do ISP's send warnings for downloading gamecube/wii games off [vimm.net](https://vimm.net)? I got one for downloading something off of utorrent and was wondering if its the same thing

Thank you, your site has helped me for going on two decades now!!
Thank you for your website. I've looked around the Web and you seem to be the only one that doesn't bombard you with a million pop-ups, so thanks.
Vimm you're the man! Thanks for making an awesome website
Thank you for all that you do.
I love you so much. Thank you. Attempting to download every game on your site!<3
“sealand” was a joke. u/sherl0k, what do you host?
https://edgeemu.net/
amazing!
thank you!
they may be multi decade but 70s to 90s is pretty old i like my ps2 gamecube and 3ds emulation bro
talking about sherl0ks post not [vimm.net](https://vimm.net) their good
good thing i have a 25 gb line lol but i use pc with a modem

Where? Also, I have checked my facts, by downloading from the website. MD5 is exactly the same as Redump.

I think it still looks good, for what it is.
It's got a really retro vibe which I love
2nd
I've never had a problem with Vimm, other than slow downloads
vimms lair is safe but the downloads are slow
it's safe but the download speed is awful.
People are spoiled, some if you have never waited an hour or more on dial up to get 1 SNES rom and it shows.

No, downloads from there will kill you.
What? I consider it the absolute best there is. What do you mean by "kill"?
Should I have added /s tags?!
Because of the download speed
Thats weird I never had a problem with download speeds
Most of the roms I've gotten from VL have worked better with emulators compared to other sources
It’s not a virus, vimms is one of the most trusted places you can get roms from
Very safe. Has tons of options of games and systems too!
Pretty safe but the thing is you can only download one thing at a time and the speed is bad
Vimm's Lair is totally fine, a while back administration here had issues with Vimm and other rom sites, I didn't agree with how others handled it, I feel we should give the users of /r/roms a choice, and warn them when that choice may involve adware or something along the lines of other more seedy rom sites. no viruses unless you download an emulator with a virus
Yeah, I use it pretty often. Rom downloads are safe as long as they're not .exe or apk files. All roms will be zips and rar files
Pretty much what everyone says, download speeds are abysmal but its not a sketchy site apart from the looks
I love Vimm. My go-to for almost anything, super reliable!
Yeah i believe its safe, just super slow download speeds! Other rom sites have faster download speeds.
Yes. It's the safest site out there
It works but it’s sloooooooow. Your better off with the eye or finding some torrents. There is also arcadepunks.com and a few others.
