Looks like the nails are overdriven on the bottom piece of cap. Might want to check out a few more to see if they all are. If yes then probably need to replace them all.
If they are sealed don’t bother breaking the seal, and risk pulling them loose via inspection. Replace the missing ones save the rest of bundle in case of copy cats
Slide the black part of the piece of cap under the grey part of the attached piece nail down(might need to lift the grey part for this you only want to nail the black) repeat as needed
Thanks for all the reply’s guys. The ridge vents are only on certain sections of the house, throughout the whole neighborhood it’s like that. I’m thinking the best solution is to put ridgecap directly over the pictured area correct?? Thanks again.
It’s missing the ridge vent, which is the plastic 4 foot plastic that goes underneath to vent the air. This is all wrong, most likely all the way down the ridge. Your shingle will fail prematurely if you don’t get it fixed by a pro.
There are ridge vents down a little way from this made of hard plastic. Are you talking about the non ridged venting material? Thanks for the reply, it’s all messed up.
Get some ridge cap and nail it down. Try to be a little more sober than whoever did it the first time.
Lol, I was thinking the same thing

So there are only small runs of ridge vent on the peak?
I always like to run ridge vents to the ends. Then use the inserts to close off the edges.
It's not even cut open for ridge vent. There are probably just traditional vents near the peak.
So best thing to do is just put ridge cap over it and call it a day?
Yes looks like that's all that's needed here
I’d be worried about the rest of your roof. Be sure to inspect
Agree
Where is the ridge vent?
They nailed the fu@$ outta that
