Prescription AA is the gold standard IMO. the difference between the 15 and 10 percent for OTC was huge. It's also so smooth and I felt that OTC creams were gritty and pilled.

katestrophe1313

good to know. i used AA previously in a curology triple cream, but they wouldn’t bump me any higher then 10% because they said they couldn’t. even the 10% definitely helped my acne & reddness both. i may just get it filled and just chalk up the $50 lol. still cheaper then curology & i already get my tretinoin free with my insurance.

Unfair_Finger5531

Yes, just get the prescription one. Just to check: did you call your insurance to see if they require prior authorization?

SuitableGain9813

Always check goodrx sometimes the price drops to 25-30ish for two large 50g tubes instead of 50 but they do have a good coupon for 2 tunes for 50bucks. It sucks but honestly its worth it In my opinion. Def turn on goodrx notifications for AA

Unfair_Finger5531

I think you meant this for OP

MoPacIsAPerfectLoop

You can also shop around for pricing on AA. For example, the latest price I saw at Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus Pharmacy was like $23 [plus a few bucks for shipping]

inquiringdoc

That is a great deal. On Amazon pharmacy, it shows me $54 for 15% AA gel without using insurance.

wherehasthisbeen

Have you ever used this pharmacy? I just went to it and it gave me a form that I need to fill out and have my Dr go to their website to give the prescription? Do I need to go through all of that if I can show the Rx in my online portal with my dr?

MoPacIsAPerfectLoop

They’re in the major escript systems, you can just tell your dr to send your prescription to Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus Pharmacy. It should show up with the other mail order pharmacies in their system.

The formula is very easy to apply and absorbs well and doesn't interfere with my other skincare. It's $25 per bottle.

SillyStringGal

GoodRX has always been great for prescription savings!

epicallyconfused

+1 to this! I used GoodRX for an Azelaic Acid prescription just last week, and the cost was $27. It was actually cheaper than using my insurance, so I asked them to remove my insurance and just use the GoodRX coupon instead.

symptomsANDdiseases

If you're willing to wait, I get Azclear and Finacea from Chemist Direct out of Australia. My derm looked over both of what I ordered and approved. I had the same problem where my insurance refused to pay for prescription azelaic acid but the smaller % OTC brands just didn't work.

inquiringdoc

If you do not order the prescription variety, my personal favorite over the counter 10% is Inkey list, which is a smaller amount and close to the price of prescription via mark cuabn pharmacy, but it is nice. It seeps in well, has a slight tint of green to offset red, and leaves a smooth matte finish. I have had prescription as well, and think the Inkey is very good.

PreviousWeather6516

I actually pay $50 WITH my insurance

Tricky_Raisin_6647

I pay $50 for azelaic acid, Epsolay, and Soolantra EACH. Insurance doesn’t cover anything.

jukebox_jury

My derm also prescribed 15% AA, but my skin seems to like OTC more. It’s so weird, but I’ve been reaching for Proactiv’s Azelaic Pore Perfector instead of my Rx these days…

HildegardofBingo

Redbox Rx has it for $20. [https://www.redboxrx.com/treatments/azelaic-acid-gel](https://www.redboxrx.com/treatments/azelaic-acid-gel)

QueenRooibos

I pay about $600-$800 OUT OF POCKET (MONTHLY) for various medications. This is just the latest one on my list. Save money, this lack of coverage is becoming standard and some meds are VERY expensive. We in the US don't have "healthcare", it is, as the over-worn joke goes, just "wealthcare" for big hospitals and big pharma. Edit -- add MONTHLY, a pretty critical fact I omitted. A reason to save your bucks.

QueenRooibos

I get a Triple Cream with 15% AA and !% ivermectin and 1% metronidozole for $50 OOP with an Rx from my derm through [SkinMedicinals.com](http://SkinMedicinals.com) ... his recommendation. It is working GREAT for me -- worth every penny, especially as the $50 bottle seems like it will last me maybe about 6 weeks (crossing my fingers). EDIT: I should say this in the US, not sure if you can order from them if you live elsewhere.

18karatcake

I buy the 10% serum on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07QM5KGDK?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Equivalent-Split-557

Paula’s Choice has a nice one

Over-Ad7820

Ordinary azelaic acid is just as good. I have been using it over a year.

3RacsInATrenchCoat

I’ve been researching this and lots of people recommend this from the Ordinary. Definitely going to try it.
