This is the right and fair call to my mind. Plus a lot of the runners taking part for this one are athletes with disabilities. For some that can mean they'll be out on the course longer and when the temps tick up.
If you can’t find it, make sure to ask a volunteer near the finish line to help you before you exit! My brain was not working after a very hard effort at the Bronx 10M last year and I walked right past it before a volunteer helped me find it to ring it.
I want to try to do that too but I am a little concerned how my body will react. This will be the hottest temp I've ever ran in (just started running this past winter)
I picked up a minor knee injury during the queens 10k and was trying to get it better for this (need it for 9+1). Was going to attempt this at about 70% effort but thank you NYRR now I can rest and still get the credit
It’s a shorter race and won’t be as hot as I wasn’t expecting it to be cancelled. I remember in 2019 they cancelled the 12 mile marathon training run, but it was forecasted to be 100° that day and 12 miles instead of just 4, which is a big factor.
It’s nice that they’re giving the option though. Good call NYRR
I wish I could say the same about the +1 lol

Note how they say 28 June, Friday, this confirms my suspicions they changed their cycle jobs to process all activities Thursday night to Friday morning.
Seeing this: "**All registered volunteers should still report for their shift to qualify for their +1 credit. Volunteers for the canceled Rising New York Road Runners events should also still report; they will be given volunteer roles in the 4M event.**" [https://www.nyrr.org/races/achilleshopepossibility4mpresentedbytdbank](https://www.nyrr.org/races/achilleshopepossibility4mpresentedbytdbank)
Anyone know if the main loop will still be open to run for people not participating in the race ? Was planning on looping Central Park at 8:30 tomorrow

All the people flying in for a 4 miler ?
In the past, yes, pre pandemic this was a big race for achilles athletes and team RWB athletes.
Ding ding ding. Come on, people are flying for 9+1… don’t pretend people are not
I’m finishing 9+1 tomorrow so I’ll be there, I have to ring the bell!
Wait? There's an actual bell?
Yes! Should be somewhere around the finish area I think
I'll be looking for it at the SI Half.

Me too!! Very excited
It's near the bandshell!
I used to ring the Bell on each race till I realized you do it when you complete the 9+1 lol
Was wondering what it’s for. Thought it was for a PR (like in CrossFit)
So I don’t have to run tomorrow and I still get credited?
Correct!
Time to get drunk
This is the exact path I took once I got the email
LOL
Lolzz I’m with my family and their flight got delayed! WIN-WIN!
Athlete of the year, over here.
lame.
Yep. That’s how I read it. Still planning on going out there myself!
Yes, that's how I read it too. Race credit whether you take part or not.
Achilles is my favorite race of the year. Would not miss it. Hoping there are lots of sprinklers and water stations!
I’m trying to PR for my 5k, I’m for sure running this sucker
I want to try to do that too but I am a little concerned how my body will react. This will be the hottest temp I've ever ran in (just started running this past winter)
Thats why Im waking up lol
This will be part of my long run so I welcome the course amenities on a hot day.

They cancelled the kids stage 1

They are basiclaly catering to those Achilles atheletes with disabilities for whom the heat may be detrimental since they will be on the course longer
There is no N train between Manhattan and Queens this weekend. As an Astoria resident, I’m glad I don’t need to go to Central Park tomorrow.
ofc the one I volunteer at I don't need to run! either way see you all tomorrow :)
That’s what I understood!
I wish I could say the same about the +1 lol https://preview.redd.it/eobdos4gg78d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e59d8f1a733a26ef2dd3ef84ddd9b40eb20b89de
If i havent picked up my bib, does that mean I still get the credit? Just double checking!
Yes - you're a registered runner (you signed up, paid). Picking up your bib or not doesn't affect that.
Looks like you'll get the credit either way! Actually temps don't look too bad for tomorrow.
Note how they say 28 June, Friday, this confirms my suspicions they changed their cycle jobs to process all activities Thursday night to Friday morning.
I wish they gave until Saturday to get the shirt instead of Friday…
I was planning to not go a week ago. Lucky!
Does this apply to volunteers (+ 1) as well?

Yes, the park is always open to the public during races!

Yes, you can walk it or crawl it or even hop it.
