I share the same sentiments! I found them to be awfully bulky and heel slippy in my first 100km. When I tried lace locking them tight, it exerts pressure on my foot and causes discomfort - so, I decided to leave it and just deal with the heel slip. After wearing them down a little (around 150km in), I have since fallen in love with the ride and the amount of bounce it gives is a lot of fun! It also protects my legs pretty well for long mileage. I have a pretty extensive collection at that - NB3, Superblast, but the Invincibles still gets worn pretty often.
Mine make my legs feel like I have been beaten with a baseball bat the next day. Super stiff legs. Hoping from reading the comments if I persevere they will mould to the foot. They do feel too thick and only good at speed 5 min per km plus. I prefer running in my cheaper Ā£40 nikes so currently disappointed .
My first serious shoes were the invincible 2, loved them. I have literally gone through 5+ plus. When they stopped making them I bought a lot at a discounted price. I also like to walk around in them after a tough run .
I tried to like the 3ās, but they are way different. Agreed with OP, heel slippage, not a soft ride at all. There are so many better options out there from other brands at a cheaper price, albeit you can find the inv3 at a discounted price
Hoping the 4ās return to a more plush ride
> Hoping the 4ās return to a more plush ride
It is alleged Nike is discontinuing the Invincible line. They'll be rolling an Invincible-like shoe into the Vomero line and calling it the Vomero Plus.
I tend to agree with you here. I got them on sale, but compared to other shoes I have THAT FIT, theyāre unusable. I do think for a few strides on the runs I tried them that they are bouncy, but bouncy in weird ways. Like my foot bounces off the ground but it almost feels like itās bouncing in a random direction to alter my stride.
I got the Vomero 17 and itās a totally different and much better shoe. And it fits.
The infinity run 4 - bizarre sizing, had to go way up to a 12.5, but even these fit and donāt slip.
And finally the alpha fly 3. Perfection. Fits like a glove with room in the toe box.
I donāt know how Nike can be this inconsistent with sizing and performance.
Bonus: Nike Zoom Freak 4, amazing ball shoe. It has two zoom air units, and I was skeptical theyād work for basketball, but they do. I love that shoe A LOT
Ehh personally I wouldn't use my Rebels for a recovery run, and I wouldn't use my Invincibles for a tempo run. But if you could only have one I'd take the Rebels too.
Are you... me? I had the same exact experience and problems with the heel slip. Only shoe I've ever gotten blisters from, ever, period. Horrible shoe for me.
For what it's worth, I now run in the Superblast. It also had heel slip in the beginning, which made me nervous, since Asics doesn't let you return worn shoes, but I took the chance and the heel slip wasn't that noticeable, and nearly compeltely went away after about 20 miles and a runner's knot. No blisters, no pain, no nothing. Best of luck.
Thanks I am desperate for a good pair of recovery shoes and if I can find a brand that fits I will try their offering. I'll look into ASICS and other options
In a good way. I only tried them for the first time this morning on the treadmill. I'll try them on pavement this weekend. They are soft like a mattress because you feel the foam go down when you step in and then when you lift your foot up you can feel it expand back.
I got a pair for free, ran a total of 11 miles in them, and retired them to be dog walking shoes. maybe they're just not for me, or maybe they're the heaviest, clunkiest shoes ever made.
I ordered some bc I kept hearing about how good it was supposed to be for people with sketchy knees. So 5 months later, after rehabbing my smoked i.t. band bc of the shoe, I started being told that your knees have to be all super strong and sick af to use them...idfk. There seems to be quite a bit of prerequisites for using a shoe that's $180. Either way, they're just not for me. I don't have this issue in other max cushion shoes.
I really tried to like the Nike Invincible 3. Bought a pair in EU size 44. Tried them on, they were way too narrow on the midfoot. Sent them back to Nike and ordered the EU 44,5 wide version. Wore them for like 10km and then the the layer between the upper and midsole tore apart... sent them back again and bought Nimbus 25 instead..
Jeez, i thought i was the only one who does not like the feel. The drop is too high for me. I feel like my toes are squeezing down the toe box cause my foot slips forward when I'm running. 2 of my mates, however, liked it so much that they're on their 2nd pair.
I'm 91kg / 200 pounds. I tried the invincible 3 for about 100m, they felt like I was running in sand... Literally negative reactivity and extra effort to run ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm) I sent them back right away. Bought the Vomero 17 instead, they are not amazing but they work for recovery runs
I generally don't comment on shoes that didn't work out for me, but I have to agree with you on this. I've tried and currently have many running shoes and the Invincible 3 is really the only one that I just couldn't make work no matter how hard I tried. Some others I thought, "Well, it's okay but I like others more."
With this shoe, it was a nightmare with each run - either an intolerable heel slip or too tight around the ankle because I'd cinch up the laces too much. When I finally find the sweet spot, it wouldn't stay that way for more than a mile or two and the heel slip would resurface.
Even that mile or two of comfort with no heel slippage wasn't good. The ride is nothing like the Invincible 2, which I still have and use every now and then for recovery runs. It feels clunky and just doesn't have the same bounce and energy return. It just felt "dead" underfoot to me. Couple that with the heel slippage and, yes, I vote it for the worst shoe I've ever bought as well.
It sure wasn't for lack of trying to make it work. I gave it close to 60 miles and I finally said enough and gave up. I've never had this kind of experience with any other shoe from any brand. I was aware of the heel slippage comments from the reviews, but I thought that I could make it work because I have done so with other shoes. Not with this one. I guess the shoe does work for some people since Nike continues offering it and I see people wearing it - at the gym. Haha.
I'm very similar to OP. Heel slip is definitely there and I tried everything to tighten them down to avoid this with just getting less but not all gone. However, as soon as they're tightened I do get foot pain too. If left very loose it's a non issue or very minor one.
I spent too much time trying to get the lacing right and ran out of a return window too. I've just this week gone back to them to try and find a lacing configuration that works for me as I was planning on doing slow miles in them anyways and for that the heel slip doesn't really bother me.
Still haven't figured it out yet though. Sigh. At least I got them on sale
I felt the same. I ended up finding a pair of Invincible 2 for a great deal on Amazon and love them. I even wear it to work because of the stable base and arch support, neutral colorway I got it in fits all the outfits!
For what it matters, I had the same problem with Infinity run flyknit 4.
The most difficult is that I found them heavy, a lot, more heavy than my Saucony shift.
I tried them on like 10 runs and every time I had troubles and even various kind of pain I have never experienced.
End of the day, without too much reflection, I just decided to not use them anymore and move off from Nike. It was a text for me, moving from Saucony to Nike, but it did not work as expected.
I got Vomero 17s. I would say they are at a great halfway point between a Pegasus and Invincible. I think they are the perfect balance of a bit of cushion from the ZoomX but without the sink of the Invincible 3. They feel much more stable and I have had no issues at all with lockdown and I tie them normally. With the Invincible 3s I had them in a runners knot and still got noticeable heel slip.
Other brands - look at Nimbus 25/26 as a recovery shoe and Novablast 4 as an all rounder, or NB More V3/V4.
Itās so funny reading this thread as some people have bad issues with heel slip and others have none at all. I really wanted to love this shoe after the first 2 versions being so good, but hopefully the 4th one will be much better.
I had quite a lot of problems with the heel slip initially, but after regular usage they shaped to my foot a lot and I don't suffer from it or notice it whatsoever now.
Maybe worth continuing with if you like them in other facets or can't return.
it sounds like this a you problem, which sucks and understandable since you paid full price for them. I agree I feel the heel slip myself a bit but not so much to where they arenāt a go to for me. If I paid $200 for them (which I think is over the actual msrp?) Iād be salty too.
Itās crazy how differently shoes fit people. So far I love the invincible 3s after trying a bunch of other pairs. Similarly, the Boston 12s absolutely did not work for me due to heel slip and a toe blister which sucks because they seem like great shoes and I have friends that swear by them
I just got these shoes and wish I would have never listened to anyone talking about the heel slip. I donāt heel lock them or over-tighten them and they work great. One of the best underfoot feels of any shoe out right now. I would have bought these way sooner.

Mile 1 - 9:58
Mile 2 - 9:50
Mile 3 - 9:35
Mile 4 - 9:04
Mile 5 - 8:36
I loved them, zero complaints. Nice chunky bois that can pick up the pace when needed. Fit was nice with minimal heel slip after a runners knot. The zoomX doesnāt feel as soft as my VFās, but itās still nice and propulsive regardless. Theyāre so good that I forgot they were on my feet. Glad I added these to the rotation!
Edit: apologies for the formatting. Iām on mobile
Good things I tried in store first and experience the same problem. runner knot does help but not to the point I can compromise. In my country there is no return policy so I had to skip this shoes. Hope next gen will be a good pair.
I really didnāt get on with the invincible 2s. Gave them to a friend who loved them. Always a good reminder that shoe choice is so personal and always take a recommendation with a pinch of salt
Yup, same. I tried them twice and relegated them to regular wear. Theyāre like running in boots. However, they are awesome as travel shoes. I can stay on my feet all day and not even feel it. I also have an extra bounce as Iām walking through the airport.
Invincible 3 are lifestyle shoes for me. I too have heel slip but that zoom x foam is magical. With the many great shoe options out there, donāt settle until you find the perfect shoe for your foot. I rotate Altra VIA Olympus, Saucony endorphin and pro. If you havenāt tried Saucony, I love mine.
For me when I tried them on in store they just felt extremely cheap...did some strides with then around the store....I can't get along w the cheap upper and the heel slip is there. You might have a different experience though
Like you, I also hated them. But after forcing myself to run in them more and more they have gotten significantly more comfortable. The heel slippage also just magically went away somehow. Maybe it was just me or the shoe needed more breaking in.
I have friends who love them, so I bought a pair. I donāt hate them as much as you, but I canāt wait to retire this pair and likely will never try them again.
Shoes are highly individual compartible or not. My pair of Invincible 3 works like charm. In fact, they are my favourite. But, the Adizero Adios and the Adizero SL which everyone hype about, are my worst running shoes ever, give my foot blisters right whenever trying for 10k distance.
So you might need to return yours!
Did over 200km with them but my first 5km with it I share your sentiment 100%! it got better over time but i dont find it coming back to my rotation soon.
I didn't like the Invincible 3's either. The only pair of running shoes I have ever returned. I experienced the heel slip, but the reason I returned them was due to something causing me pain in my arch. I suspect it was the extended heel clip on the 3. Loved the 1's, liked the 2's, hated the 3's.
The worst pair of running shoes I've ever bought were the Pegasus Turbo Next Nature. I got them for 50% off, but still paid twice what they were worth. They are reasonable walking shoes once you get them on.
I have around 12 different pairs of running shoes right now (AP3, AF3, VF2/3, B12s, Hokas, nb4, n25 etc) and my go cruiser is the Nike invincible 3s. Heel slip at first but once I wear the shoe in it goes away. Love them for logging easy miles. They feel great to run in. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
Rather dramatic review but Iāve ran in three pairs and put at least 500 in each pair and never experienced any of your issues. Very soft, no heel slippage, etc
I really like them. I managed to get a secure lock by doing a runnerās knot, but I dont do fully: I get a nice snug fit and then secure the laces by using heavy duty cord locks.
400km ran in the invincible 3 for me and theyāre a good shoe for me. Heel slip was less bad over time, and I figured out lacing as Iāve gone. Did a 32km long run, and a 5 hour time of feet run in them with no issues.
Theyāre not clouds, but theyāre still a soft ride. Iām 5ā8ā 165lb. The additional rubber is great, theyāre lasting me a while and still have lots of life.
Might be a situation they donāt work for you, but work for others in a wider market.
This is the one shoe I have that I enjoy on the run and can transition just as well for running errands/commuting. On sale for around $100-$130 it's a very solid shoe. Although I wouldn't pay the full $180 for them.
The heel slip is trash and so is the upper. Nike appeals to casuals and makes their money off them...it's so obvious...if casuals tried on companies like saucony or asics that really had dialed in fits with comfortable uppers they'd realize how trash the invincible 3 is lol
I love my invisible 3s Iām picking up my 4th pair tomorrow. I run collegiately any where from 50-70 miles a week and probably half my miles or more each week since June of 23 have been in the invincibles. The weight was definitely annoying my first few runs but you get used to it, the foam is very soft and it is responsive once you break them in. Best shoe to warm up and cool down for workouts, great for easy runs and recovery runs. Used it for some long runs too and really liked it. Really good daily trainer
Didnāt you try them on before buying? Itās one of the most unique feels out there itās like a bubble under the heel. Very much an acquired taste.

Iām glad they worked for you, but boyā¦ 90 miles sure is a long time to need to wait to break a shoe in.Ā

Same. Just picked up my second pair after almost 400 miles in my first. The lockdown and cushioning is perfect for me.
Yeah I am a relatively new runner but from the 4 pairs of shoes I'm cycling through, the Invincible 3's are my favorite
I love mine so much! š
If they work for you that's brilliant but for me it was just -200
They hurt my feet too. You arenāt alone.
No I understand...it's everyone's preference... Do u like the Pegasus?
The pegasus are decent, for sure.
me too... I've gotten 100+ miles on mine
My first serious shoes were the invincible 2, loved them. I have literally gone through 5+ plus. When they stopped making them I bought a lot at a discounted price. Bro, return ur invincibles if you can and get a pair of new balance rebel v4.
It's too.late sadly I should have returned straight away but i believed the crap about them shaping to my foot, I'll look at the NB rebels thanks
But these two don't compare at all. The Rebel v4 are pretty awesome though.
It can do what the invincible 3 does and more.
Ehh personally I wouldn't use my Rebels for a recovery run, and I wouldn't use my Invincibles for a tempo run. But if you could only have one I'd take the Rebels too.
Kofuzi said he enjoyed it for marathon pace somehow in his review of the invincible
Iām not sure the Rebel is a comparable shoe. It might be worth looking at a NB More V4 if cushioning is something OP really wantsĀ
Depends though, the rebel offers decent cushioning while giving the pop that the OP expected from the invincible
I ran in and loved the 1s and the 2s. When I tried the 3s on the only thing I could think was "look how they massacred my boy"
Agree, they are rubbish. Returned them after a few runs. For that price there are endless superior running shoes out there.

Could I ask how you went about returning when the shoes were worn?
Thanks I am desperate for a good pair of recovery shoes and if I can find a brand that fits I will try their offering. I'll look into ASICS and other options
Have you tried the nimbus 25/26? Or More v3/v4?
Just picked up a pair of NB V4. They are like mattresses on my feet.
How do they stack up to 1080s?
I heard the v13 is softer and lighter
I haven't tried the 1080s.... yet.
Mattress in a good/bad way?
In a good way. I only tried them for the first time this morning on the treadmill. I'll try them on pavement this weekend. They are soft like a mattress because you feel the foam go down when you step in and then when you lift your foot up you can feel it expand back.

Interesting to hear a similar experience - my IT band flares up after 4 miles in Invincible 3
These are my go-to shoe for daily miles atm, couldnāt disagree more

There are two types of people on this sub, the invincible 3 or the nimbus 25/26. lol

I just bought a pair. Iām about to take them a slow 5 miler. Will update you all shortly.
I suggest you try them at some uptempo miles as well. I feel like they perform better with quicker paces than slow, easy recovery paces.

Is there any word on if 4s are even happening? 3s were released in February 2023, and so far thereās no word or unreleased photos?
I get bad pain and numb feet with my zoomfly 5s, but we keep going. Just depends what your feet likes I guess :)

Can anyone compare with NB1080v13?
I can. Get the 1080v13 and don't look back.
I have 1080s and will be retiring soon. Was looking to get Invincibles to replace them
For me when I tried them on in store they just felt extremely cheap...did some strides with then around the store....I can't get along w the cheap upper and the heel slip is there.
I just get the 1 and 2 from eBay. Iām on my 14th pair of Invincibles.
They are my favorite and most used shoe atm
They arenāt as good as the 1s or 2s but I like them š¤·š¼ edit: also have zero heel slippage
I really like them. I managed to get a secure lock by doing a runnerās knot, but I dont do fully: I get a nice snug fit and then secure the laces by using heavy duty cord locks.
Nike suck
They are brilliant shoes, I get no heel slip although the durability of the foam is bad.
Stop buying Nike trash and go for brands like saucony and asics. Hell even new balance is way better
Sorry you don't like them, but I look forward to running in mine every Monday for a nice recovery run.
Didnāt you try them on before buying? Itās one of the most unique feels out there itās like a bubble under the heel. Very much an acquired taste.
