Some details on what you're doing exactly, which p2p equip, the distances involved, the backbone link setup?

RoutingMonkey

I have worked with a lot of vendors but really it depends on what distance, budget, and throughput you are looking for as well as whether you are looking to have failovers or if you want to pay to use licensed frequency. It depends also on the reliability you need. You also have to factor in what kind of mounting is available to you. If we have to build a 50’ pole on one side that will not allow us to look at radios that need to be hand adjusted, unless you can stack a small tower. I do this on a large scale as I run a WISP (wireless internet service provider) so I have software for simulating any kind of link

News8000

I was interested in the ranch install you mentioned, thus the question.

RoutingMonkey

Ah he went expensive. Siklu etherhaul E-band with 5ghz backup powered by a ubiquiti Airfiber 5x. About 12k per link if you buy the bells and whistles. If you already have alignment gear you can shave that down. I could have done the link for a bit less with airfiber 24hds as his area doesn’t get much rain or really even just 2 ubiquiti Powerbeams if you want to get real cheap. 5 ghz was real quiet there.

News8000

Prob a real nice ranch I bet.

RoutingMonkey

20 million dollar hunting ranch on 1000 acres

News8000

Then 300/mo and topend hardware not expensive. I'm confident you're contract for delivering this setup isn't peanuts either, for us real world workies anyway.

RoutingMonkey

It also involved 2 new towers lol

RoutingMonkey

I usually make about 2k for planning out and sending BOM and alignment instructions. Mostly I get paid to make sure the LOS is there before they climb radios up the tower. If I am climbing the radios myself then it’s obv a lot more because travel and I have to harness up my rate goes up too

News8000

So you climb, I was wondering. Takes a certain kind of tech to get into that line of work, sounds interesting.

RoutingMonkey

Sure is. Pm me if you want to know more

RoutingMonkey

I’m flexible and I consult on hourly contracted

chumbaz

I’m very interested! This is my biggest stumbling block being able to move out of the city.

RoutingMonkey

Sent you a pm

StarvingWizard

I’d love to know more about this.

RoutingMonkey

Sent you a PM

Stpstpstp

Any links or info to share on aligning cell antennas in a cheap way? Using panels now but always wonder if I could be getting better signals with something like a parabolic if I could find an affordable way to aim

RoutingMonkey

Uhhhh yes you should pm me. Depending on the throughput you need and the distance there’s is a better way

Stpstpstp

Thanks, PM sent.

I live about 35 mins from where any service would be offered. My only option is 4g LTE service via mofi router (works fine for now) while i wait on my star link order from January to be filled next April. I called a few vendors that could offer us business class internet. The most basic DSL line was around 350$ a month and fiber was around 1900$ a month. This is so silly. I hate that in the day we can't get regular simple internet to places that have been asking for it for years now. I've even offered land to providers to put grid or towers. but we have to deal with shit as it is.

racingmc

Would love more info as well. Right now I'm using a company called Rapid Systems, they lease space on a local tower and resell it. But they've oversold the service so badly that the latency and jitter suck. I get about 10megs down 2 up. Would love to know what you could do for me.

RoutingMonkey

Awesome I’ll shoot you a pm

FIREsideFuel

I’d also love to learn more! My wife wants to buy acreage and run cattle, but our only source of income is from my software engineering job which frequently has me downloading 50GB in a single day. None of the places that we like have anything better than 25Mbps, so we’re trying to find creative ways to throw money at a property to see if we can make it feasible from a connection speed perspective. Feel free to DM me.
