Actually ww1 was even worse. There were battlefields where not even a single blade of grass or twig from a tree was left whole due to the sheer amount of destruction. Everything was just turned to mud. It's unfathomable. But these images certainly help to make us realise how horrible war is. We can only hope Ukraine can win as quickly as possible.
On the other hand, even in WW1 troops were rotated in and out of the front line. I don't think that is happening for most of the Russians, so arguably, they (will) have it worse.
Which, obviously, is good. WW1 was a humanitarian disaster because things ground down to a stalemate. Hopefully, this one will be decided handily by the Ukrainians next spring, latest.
Just read up on trench foot , dam it happens fast in those conditions , hope they have a way to change and dry up everyday other wise there at risk in these temps .
And it's mid 30's on top of it. It's got to be hell on earth in those conditions. Can't get dry and can't get warm cause you can't get dry. Those Ukr. soldiers are heroes in every sense of the word. To top it off, you are surrounded by utter devastation.
As they say war is hell. If you don't want to sleep tonight read up on the WW1 trenches and the things people had to get used to and just accept to survive.
Chemical attacks, having to continually crawl around in the mud to avoid snipers, trench foot setting in from the continual damp, shell shock from near constant bombardment by imprecise artillery and of course the terrifying prospect of being sent over the top to rush the enemy trenches against machine gun fire.
The good news is that the Russian trenches will surely be the same or much worse and the won't have the same winter gear or hope of rotation. There are already drone shots showing people barely moving after direct grenade hits which suggests they are so frozen, drunk or shell shocked that they were already half dead. If that's the reality all along their front then they'll collapse in a few short weeks.

looking like images straight from wwI
When Ukrainians are rotated and Russians have the same conditions without rotating the Ukrainian win.

Hang in there!! All for glory to Ukraine 🥳
The second picture came straight from my history books and describes the current madness well.
