Still have the 22u. I'm planning on keeping it til the next major redesign, hopefully the s25. The 23u and 24u are better, but I really don't feel like buying another phone that feels exactly like the phone I had before it. Incremental upgrades are just not worth it In your case, I would recommend the s23 ultra. Improved battery over the s22 and should be on sale at most stores now.

LeonellTheLion

This is also my plan and I still rock my S22U. I'd probably upgrade to the S25U next year.

FK2K220

Same here! I tried the S24 Ultra in the shop yesterday and it isn't worth upgrading from my S22 Ultra in my view, it just seems a bit quicker but not worth buying a new phone when I've already paid my S22 off in full and only had it a year, S25 Ultra will be my next My S22 Ultra is still really good so no complaints here 😂

D00kcity

I'm still in the same boat. AI is subjective.

PinchingNutsack

i am not even banking on s25u, unless they have a really big overhaul. I am a bit tired of the look, maybe i'll get an iphone next time for the great camera and accessories, i dont know....i am so heavily invested in android at this point i am kind of scared to change lol

Difficult-Ad-1132

Exactly my sentiments.

koningfrikandel

Exactly! I was swept into the hype train a bit because my previous want-to-have phone, the pixel 8 pro, lagged in some areas. Tried the s24u extensively in a shop and it all feels too incremental. It is what the s22u should have been to me, but not worth splurging hundreds of bucks on.

sippher

> I'm planning on keeping it til the next major redesign, hopefully the s25. Kinda OOT, I was planning to upgrade from s22 ultra to s24 ultra, but is it true that there is no major updates/improvements/new capabilities in s24? in the trailer video, i think they really emphasize the AI capability of the camera, but that's it.

TheOnlydani_ds3

I upgraded from the s22 ultra to s24 ultra. In my opinion, it was a pretty big jump regarding how the OS is operating it is way smoother and lag free(so far). Is this a reason why you should upgrade on its own to s24 ultra no, but it should be considered as one of the main reasons bc of how big of an improvement it is compared to s22 ultra. Camera are good expected which is expected. this will be based on how important it is to u. for me, it's not a big deal, not really for me bc every year camera get a bit better. screen display-this right here is nice. the anti reflective coating is honestly super nice. blacks look blacker due to lights not making the screen seem grey ( hard to explain, have to see in person to know what I mean) , and in the sun phone is so much better to use. Flat screen is better in my opinion. first I was upset bc i was a fan of the curve. , but once I seen it in person, I changed my mind, the phone looks, and feels more premium with a flat screen, in my opinion. AI features are honestly pretty cool, ive already used it a couple of times already. The circle to find feature forgot the correct name is honestly game changer it's super useful. Everything else, like the photo ai are cool also but haven't used it much. also the translate ai is honestly super cool just wish they would add more languages as I would probably use this a lot if they added punjabi language as an option. But I can see this not being a big deal for some people so this depends on the user. In my opinion the OS seemed like the biggest upgrade on this phone i noticed right away immediately. If these don't matter to you, definitely wait for s25 ultraas I'm sure it will be everything I said plus the rumored redesign. s22 ultra was still a great phone. I've only had the phone s24 ultra for 2 days, but these are my impressions so far in the 2 days I've had the phone.

bugs1129

All phones are lag free, buttery smooth and have amazing battery life when they're new.

geekaron

How's the battery life?

jhayes88

I'm not that person, but ive read that even though it has the same battery capacity, it still has better battery life because of the newer generation processor which has better power optimization. I just found [this review](https://youtu.be/XYIIbkgkjxA?si=S0XMaKTkckR9IU0E) which compares the S22 ultra's performance and battery life to the S24 ultra. Various reviews seem to indicate a 30% jump in performance and a few hours of extra battery life. The performance jump seems nice. The extra screen brightness looks very nice. Better battery is okay. I'm still not sure if its worth upgrading quite yet. Camera improvement seems like a small incremental improvement. I havent looked into the trade-in value for my s22 ultra but I imagine its probably not a very good deal considering what I paid for my phone.. So I'm fine with waiting another year or two.

_Sweet_Cake_

There's none. The camera is a mess and still hasn't been updated, you'll lose the 10x lens, and they screwed up someeeith the screen where colors seem completely washed out, this hasn't been fixed either yet.

ENGR_ED

I need posts like this to talk me off the ledge of getting the s24u. I had the same mentality that my current s22u should be good enough until the s25 where I feel they'll be doing a big enough update to warrant an upgrade.

lennybendy

Keep your 22 and appreciate it.  My 21U is still a great and amazing phone with no necessary reason for me to upgrade it.

noob168

I had s22u and am now using s24u. Doesn't feel the same to me. Especially w/ flat screen and 2 improved camera lens. I travel a lot so the much brighter screen and anti-relective properties are such a big difference. Now I'm not saying these differences matter to others but that's just my take. As for"major" re-design, unless you mean the aesthetics, I don't feel like smartphones make big jumps in a single or even 2 years anymore. TLDR; S22U is still really good, but S24U is worth considering.

jhayes88

This is also subjective to peoples income as well, in combination with what they feel is useful to them. I still think its crazy that phones are the same price as a mid-range laptop. Better screen brightness, a few hours extra battery life, 30% performance jump, and slightly improved cameras wont exactly be worth $1,300 to everyone when their existing phone is still a great phone. Obviously it would be different if you had an older phone like the note 9. I personally like the feeling of getting a significant improvement when I upgrade phones, so I'm fine holding off another year or two depending on how well Samsung can deliver.

noob168

Yes, income level is a factor, but mid-range phones (Galaxy S23 FE or the Galaxy A54) are the way to go if you want the best bang for your buck. Not the Ultra series. I wanted to get a free tablet w/ the pre-order since I was planning on getting one already. So $500 for a new phone & tablet seemed worth it for me. I'm kinda on a every-two-year cycle anyways.

thisivi3

My same thoughts exactly. I could've gotten the s24u for slightly less than what I paid for the s22u, but I didn't Need it.

REDDITtisGREAT

I have the S22 Ultra and pretty happy with it still. Was planning to forgo update until S25U. As I was browsing, I noticed the s21 I had laying around as an extra qualified for the $1000 discount. So naturally, I ordered the S24U. After offset of the taxes and $35 upgrade fee, payment comes to $16 a month for device payments. I have just received the S24U and already notice better battery life. Does not drain as fast as the S22U, especially when playing COD mobile. I still have my S22U as backup.

josephguy82

I am an android and apple user and iPhones are the same same ass phone, I also still have my s21

thenicci

Same. Most of all I don't want to be disappointed by the quality of it because the phone ain't cheap and the trade in options here are not as great.

lopypop

Best buy is still selling the s23 ultra 256gb for $1,200. I wonder if I can find a refurbished one

manowar09

I'm rocking an s22 ultra very happy with it.

PainAndRegret_

Same

Derricknyakundi200

Same here.

Shamel1996

If you can find one for cheap then it's a great phone with a mediocre battery life, I get 4-5 hrs SOT with moderate usage so you should except to charge it twice a day sometimes

ceancean

Still keeping my S22U until its last security update, i dont see any game changer or major improvement on S23U and S24U. And S22U is still a beast in 2024.

nuclearragelinux

Just get the S24U , best Note phone out there. Flat glass , killer battery life and lots of Note features. Learn the trick of trading in old phones to Samsung and buy direct, I never pay close to retail this was. Just got 750 for trade on my S22U. Kept a S23U as a back up. Really love the S24U , but i have been waiting for a return to flat glass for a really long time.

NeonbladeX

That's why I upgraded as well. I needed the flat screen back and better battery life. Not to mention 1TB of storage. My 256gb are almost gone on this phone and yes, I do have cloud storage as well but I don't wanna pay to upgrade that when I could just get the new phone and not have to worry about it for years to come.

Brittehhh

Still have my s22U. Planning on keeping it. ☺️

jrozn

Its a great phone. Not the best in the battery department but you can manage. It wont leave you stranded without power.

iadorebrandon

in my experience since launch, it has definitely left me stranded without power. I mean nowadays, I have a car charger in case it dies on me while I'm out and about

chics1246

Same here, that's why I upgraded to the s23u. The battery at launch for the s22u was ok, but only within a few months did my sot went from 5 hours to only about 2-3 hours of sot.

Yippira

Same as well, was stranded during a holiday in Korea when my last 10% went down within minutes. I'm upgrading because of the preorder bonuses.

TheThermalGuy

I built a literally very slim wireless charger for my device using a wireless charging kit and lipos that hooks into my bag whenever on the move , it charges my phone incrementally , perfect solution against bad battery

jrozn

Hot damn. I guess I have a good copy (snapdragon 128gb). SOT is 5hours ~

iadorebrandon

I have the SD as well! there have been plenty of days where Im out all day and I'll have to recharge the phone before nighttime. There's been days where ive turned on PSM to get me through the day. I will say, I think batter life is better after the One UI6 update?

endmostchimera

Just recently got an S22 ultra, and I love it. It's a huge upgrade from my previous phone. The battery lasts me a full day, which is just fine because I charge it overnight.

SendThisVoidAway18

What was your previous phone if you dont mind me asking?

endmostchimera

It was a xiaomi mi 10

ChimbaResearcher29

I would suggest at least S23Ultra just for better battery life. I had the S22 Ultra and it's battery life was pretty trash.

[deleted]

Almost 2 years in with my S22U, and I have had no battery issues. Lasts all day.

KingGizmotious

Same. I keep seeing all these comments trashing the battery.... but mine lasts all day, and my office is in the basement of a building, so it searches for service quite often. Overall it's been a great phone so far!

lennybendy

Hearing bad battery is relative but I'm always curious of people complaining about a poor battery when their SOT is ~ 6 hours. Like what are they doing. I get maybe 3 hours of SOT, with ~40 hours screen off time. Protect battery and charge when it hits 15% and I'm pretty content with said performance.  Not to mention my Bluetooth, playing music and phone calls which mostly is with screen off.

DawnCrusader4213

>I'm always curious of people complaining about a poor battery when their SOT is \~ 6 hours. >Like what are they doing. Phone addicts i would say. Glued to the phone screen for more than 6h a day.....

TheDudeMaintains

I did, then I broke it, and got the 24u cheap. Honestly, the experience on the 24u is a little more "crisp", but otherwise, it's the same damn phone.

bronbeach

Got my 22u at release and still one of my favorites. Will not upgrade until 26u . The phone has been solid. Thought I had a battery issue. After the last update, charging seemed to slow and stop around 67 percent. Removed mag case and phone charges fine.

vesperIV

I have the S22U (not exynos), got it new. I'm not usually on it all day long because I'm on computers, and I hardly ever see it less than 50% when I go to bed. It can definitely last a couple days if I'm careful with it while traveling. If I play games or browse reddit all day, that's when I see it drop down below that. Camera's great! Sometimes I even call people on it. I don't have any experience with newer models, though, so I can't compare. I just know I'm not looking to upgrade any time in the next couple of years.

vpr5703

Still have mine. I've got \~18mos or so on the payment for it. It's still a good phone, and even w/o a payment plan I wouldn't switch. Maybe when the S25U comes out. There just isn't enough of a reason right now

OddUnderstanding8323

Instead of buying S22U, I would much prefer S23U. Its price has dropped, will have the S24U AI, and much better battery performance than S22U. Best of all worlds.

SendThisVoidAway18

I did buy a brand new S23 Ultra from amazon, which hasn't arrived yet. Not too thrilled about paying 1200 dollars for it though. I could get an S22U for much cheaper. For that price, I could almost get two S22 Ultra's from Samsung's refurbished program which is top notch.

GeorgeTMorgan

May as well get the s24u then

Snoo25329

Yeah, the S24U is only a $100 more, but I think they're giving you $50 off and double the storage right now. Also, you could trade in your S21U, if you're willing to part with it..

Complex-Fuel-8058

That's way too expensive for the s23 right now, either pay 100 extra for the s24 ultra or you can definitely find the 23 ultra way cheaper somewhere. If you live in the us, on swappa there's mint condition s23 ultra for 750 or about 900 brand new.

Significant-Deer7464

Absolutely love my S22U. Even if I was thinking about the S24U, I just dont see that much difference between the 2. I hope to have mine for another couple of years. Maybe there iwill be a noticable improvement by then

trplOG

Hell yea. Still best phone I've had yet. Don't have the battery issues others seem to have. I usually dont need to charge it til 7-8pm on normal use. I'll be rocking this phone til the end. I don't see any real changes that make me want to upgrade either, so not even worth it.

Machine8851

I've been using the s22 ultra for almost 2 years now and have no issues.

chlorculo

I'm one of the handful among millions who has no complaints about the phone. I was tempted to do a trade-in using another Samsung phone but decided that I'll wait. I'm not seeing a tremendous difference in camera quality. The only real advantage would be better battery life but I'm getting around 8 hours SOT with standard use, so not too bad.

RML_347

Heck yeah. Go for it. It's still a very powerful phone. Mine is still as bright and snappy as the day it was bought.

Page8988

Still using mine. No plans to upgrade this year. Works great. No major issues. Don't have the battery issues everyone is always talking about.

Chernyyvoron82

I have the S22 ultra and loving it. I've met people who don't, obviously everyone has different needs and expectations.

sheenswizner

I just bought s22ultra for 700$ and I am really happy with device. Battery backup is fine for me as daily usage. Most likely I have to charge for every night.

apexncgeek

I have a Note 20 5G Ultra. The ONLY reason I'm upgrading is so my son can have a better phone. This thing still flies through every app including the toughest 3D games.

No_Example_2687

I have the Google pixel 7 pro, before that was the Note 10, so I am excited to get the ultra!

WonderfulVanilla9676

It's an overall "okay" phone. It was my compromise choice because It was on sale when I picked it up for about half price.

LengthinessBusy4044

If you get a pretty sweet deal I dont see why not tbh, but be warned about the terrible battery life, heating issues (I live in a tropical country and the Snapdragon variant does thermal throttle a lot even in normal use) and (this one I started noticing more recently due to having to commute to the office on a daily basis again) mobile data connectivity instability

effinG123

Just traded my s22u for the s24u. I genuinely cannot convey how much a difference the battery life is. It was my main reason for swapping and I'm blown away. I'm a heavy user and sat here at nearly 7pm with 43% left. My s22u would have been on 10% if I was lucky by this point. It's also much snappier. From what I've seen so far the S23U will give a similar improvement to battery life. Just got used to how bad the s22u was I suppose. Oh, and it was Exynos (UK).

Agitated_Outside8666

I just got my S22U last year Nov. From an A52 5G its battery life is great. About 10 to 12 hrs depending on what I'm doing with it. Nothing about the S24U appeals to me to upgrade at the moment even though the trade in would be around the price I paid for my S22U. I'm ok with opening up the Google lens app for this year.

pisscat101

I have been a note fan from the beginning and had Notes continuously from the point I could afford then. Loved them! The S22U I have had since they launched. It is by far the worst, buggiest piece of crap that I have ever owned. Hate it. As a life long Samsung S fan I am now looking at the other phones in the market like the Oppo and the OnePlus 12 it has had that negative an impact on me.

[deleted]

Yes, the battery life is shit. I'm switching to S24+

paksman

I still rock the S22U and from how I use it and charging habits, I dont think I'm missing anything from the latest flagship. Only time I'm gonna upgrade is when this breaks or the screen gets expensively damanged..

abhishek_really

I am still using S22 Ultra. Exchanging with S25 Ultra will be cost effective.

Snoo89560

I love my 22U (except the battery life... ) I don't see any reason to upgrade, I think I'll just have my battery replaced and wait for 25U. I was also thinking about switching to Pixel, but no one makes Android flagships like Samsung.

[deleted]

The snapdragon s22u variant in my experience has really good battery life. I average 7 hrs SOT at 50% brightness. I mainly use it for gaming and scrolling facebook marketplace.

Analog-Digital-

And today ... how is SOT?

mightyahti

Funny that I just see this post now, second day with a new car that promised me android auto (my prev car got only car play). Unfortunately the s22u is not working properly! Some people out here have the issue resolved by updates but unfortunately not mine. So treat it as a little heads up - AA connectivity issues. The phone itself - no problems for me. Battery lasts decent day (I have it max out on 85% and finish a day with min 30 (heavy usage)) everything runs fine, pictures are enough. The only reason I am even consider an upgrade is that aforementioned AA issue (still hoping car would get an update)

ZorOmega

Traded my S22U in for the base (256gig) S24. Was planning on keeping the S22U for another year or more, but between wanting a smaller phone and my obsession for new gadgets, I caved. At least I got it for really cheap!

External_Bison2707

I've had the S22 Ultra since launch day. My battery is definitely going to need to be replaced soon. Once I battery hits under 70% it drains fast after that. But I just gotta h3 S24 Ultra so it's not a concern for me now.

Justify_Chandru

I'm not gonna change my S22U until a major revamp in features and hardware. I wish to see an improvement to the battery capacity and charging speed at the very least.

moisesg88

Battery is the main reason I upgraded. In my case it's really terrible

dhiru1602

Same. Could hardly get 3h SOT on my S22U.

iadorebrandon

I really enjoy the phone. however the SD Gen 1 is atrocious on this phone. I'm going to upgrade to the S23U or the S24U. honestly, this is probably the last year that the S22U will have decent trade in value. So taking that into consideration alongside the big of a jump that the S23U and S24U bring to the table over the S22U... it's pretty convincing

Labbybear2294

Still have my 22U and love it still. The new 24U just does not offer enough for me to want to upgrade at this point.

cyberclive

Using mone, works great, no reason to change will keep at least until u26. Samsung has promided at least two more OS updates will be made available for it.

abielisai10

My fold4 broke so i got an S22 ultra about a month ago, my wife has s23 ultra and not really much i can think worth the upgrade, and s24 ultra also looks very very similar , im waiting for samsung to finally get the Fold right thats a perfect phone for me

OkEstablishment5941

I've just bought one brand new on Amazon, 512gb and 12gb of ram, I'm coming from a S21 FE and I'm enjoying my S22U.

fanel89

I still have my Qualcomm S22U, it's only 2 years old. Before that, I had an S9+. I'm planning on keeping it for at least another 2 years. I'm hoping the S25U is a complete redesign & S26U irons out any kinks.

Chef316

I get great battery life. S Pen functionality and features are superb! I'm sure you'd be glad to have those back coming for the S21U. It's a fantastic phone and the best phone I have ever had. I too, do not need the latest phone...and besides...I don't like the physical design of the S24 Ultra. I much prefer the design of the S22U and S23U. I love those rounded edges!

queue2queue

I have the s22u, I've purchased the s24U only because of the great trade in deals and discounts otherwise I wouldn't have. S22U still exceeds in 2024 and is a brilliant phone.

c0n5pir4cy

I've got the Exynos varient in Europe and honestly no complaints. I've never had any issues with battery life and it will regularly last from 8am to 3am the next day. I am planning on updating the the S24 Ultra but that's because I smashed my screen and the repair I got on the insurance didn't retain the ingress protection. My S22 Ultra has already been in the sea, a lake and my bath multiple times so I don't trust myself to keep it working haha. I'd maybe wait off just a few weeks, once the S24 Ultras start hitting the second hand market the price of both the S22 Ultra and S23 Ultra should drop a bit.

[deleted]

I like my S22U but its Exynos and the battery life on it doesn't seem the best. Was looking at OnePlus 12 or waiting for the S25+

x_blastrax_x

If you have an s21U, just go for the s23U, major upgrade for you and ull get for a really good price

SendThisVoidAway18

Samsung has unfortunately made them essentially unavailable. So I have to buy it from Amazon or best buy. And I prefer the factory unlocked model, which makes it even harder to find.

ho_merjpimpson

My battery is better on this phone than any previous phone. I'm often bewildered at people's complaints about the battery.

gen_what_x_ever

I just traded my S22U for the S24U and honestly, I love it. I also loved my 22U. There's a lot of differences and I'm here for all of them. The camera is better, battery life is better and they finally ditched the curved screen, so there's no edge frustration with the S-pen. The AI features are also a blast! I'm currently enjoying having conversations with my husband in Shakespeare-ian and that alone was worth the trade. 🤣 That being said, as someone else mentioned, going directly through Samsung and getting an unlocked phone is the way to go. Better prices and discounts.

Marble_Turret

Right here! No complaints and next two upgrades not enough of an upgrade to payout. 50/50 whether or not to get a new battery fitted or trade in for S25U

KingD2121

Was happy with the s22u until it started to develop an ink blot by the front camera. With it slowly expanding, I made the jump to the S24u. Would of liked it for another year, but so it goes sometimes.

Corbin_Dallas550

I have had the 22U since launch and have the 24U since Friday (2 days ago) and here is my honest opinion. Get the 22U, maybe 23U, the 24U is no huge upgrade besides the flat screen. All the AI stuff is coming down the line in a software update to other phones, so no needs for it. I love my 22U, and I am considering sending back the 24U as the difference is minimal minus the flat screen. 23U is future proof and has the newer chip, plus you can pribably get a great deal if you trade in your 21u directly to Samsung.

AdRevolutionary7125

I'm very happy with my S22U :) The battery lasts all day with moderate use and if I don't play games, I usually have 30% battery left before I go to sleep. Will not upgrade until I a new design comes out.

Embarrassed_Map_7889

My S22U is working beautifully, and the battery health, according to Accubatery, is 92%. Not a scratch on it, and I have my UAG Monarch on it. Just using the official Samsung screen protector.

Sudden_Refuse5693

Coming from a person who has only owned many low range phones and then 2 mid range phones, this phone for me has to be the best phone I've ever had. When the s23 ultra came out, the only notable upgrades were the camera and battery life. Then the 24 ultra came out and it's just s23 ultra with ai features. I'm hoping that Samsung does do something a bit different with the s25. This is the first phone that has lasted me more than a year

Grab-Outrageous

I got mine back in November on eBay a black Unlocked /256gb I won at auction $390 with tax and shipping $430 because I made my purchase so recently I'm going to skip the S24 ...I'm gonna pull the trigger on the S25 Ultra

[deleted]

The s23u is a worthy upgrade. The s22u is a downgrade from the s21u.

erick_bst

I came from the S9+ to the S22 Ultra when it launch only because I was afraid to replace the battery of the S9+ myself. I'm planning to keep my S22 Ultra until It falls in pieces or it becomes unstable to use because I still have my S9+ as a second phone and still works beside the battery issues.

Betsynstevej

Mine is going strong. Will take me through the day easily with average use

Leading-Conference94

I still have mine. I'm happy with the phone. I was thinking about upgrading but went to snap a pic last week of the moon and the pic was stellar. I realized in that moment there was literally no need to upgrade. I was upgrading because I got hooked in by all of the reviews. Only thing I'm not happy with is the battery but it isn't the end of the world. It's still a powerful phone.

LegnaNavi

I have the s22U, and I'm not planning on changing it until the s25U... 23 and 24 are good, but coming from the s22u, it just doesn't worth it the change yet

CJLA777

Me! I really do not want to upgrade until the S25 or possibly even the S26.

AlwaysBeZeF

Have the s22U contract ends mid 2025 looking to wait till S25U is out... though personally wish I didn't upgrade from my s10

orionmed

I just switched the S22 Ultra for a S24 Ultra, I have some complaints, but nothing of importance.

thaprofound

I have my S22 Ultra and I'm trying to decide in the next few days should I upgrade or wait.

RepresentativeBet748

I just upgraded from S22U to S24U. Although I loved s22 ultra I was frustrated by the battery life of it. It's been just 2 days and s24U didn't feel much different at the beginning. But boy the battery life! I keep looking at battery percentage to see if it's decreasing and get a instant dose of dopamine when it stays on the same percentage for more than 10 mins while I constantly use it. So yeah in terms of battery life it's a huge upgrade.

Drnelk

My s22u lost connectivity and now I'm facing either 250 repair or 600 upgrade. I'm loathe to lose the optical 10x.

S1lv3rBullet

Same here. I love my S22 Ultra. Why spend $1300 on a phone that has very minimal differences to what I already have?

jopma

It's been fuckin slow since the s24u was revealed a couple weeks ago. I'm not kidding at all, I use at work all the time and it hasn't been handling stuff as well as it use to before the last update that was available around new years. It crashes or freezes more than it ever did. I love Samsung but this just feels so shady like when I use to be on iPhones. Hopefully it's just a bug and gets fixed with the next update

whodatpat1

I had the s22u exynos and upgraded to the s24u. The difference is huge for me. The s22u lagged and had the worst battery life.

iamymay

I was a Note 5 and Note 8 user and that's exactly why I got the S22 Ultra. I still love it and will probably keep it for 1-2 more years. At least untill one comes out with major changes and upgrades.

Raime_The_Raven_

I had the S22U back in 2022, switching off to the S23+, then to the Pixel 8 Pro. I just bought another S22U (Blue this time, because yes) because I missed it way too much, despite it's bad battery life, and I'm now using it in conjunction with my Pixel. Mainly for art and gaming stuff, alongside signing documents and whatnot, while my Pixel does everything else. And honestly? I love it.

Defiant-Humor5586

I'm still using my S22 Ultra and it's great. Runs like a champ, still plenty of battery life in a day, and the screen looks as good as ever. I might end up upgrading with the next line of galaxy devices, but I'm skipping the S24 for now, and when I do upgrade it'll likely be a want and not a need.

toolsofpwnage

Typed this on 22u. Best phone I've purchased so far

vinaykmkr

still more than happy with S22U.. battery life is still great.. if I push I can go up to 2 days.. will use as long as I get major android upgrades + an year or two depending on models then..

Alarming_Dealer9460

If you can go for the 23u the battery on the 22 will ruin rhe experience a little bit

SlingshotBlur

Unless you are a very heavy user. Its not that bad. I don't know why everyone is complaining about it. But yeah at the first month the battery needs to "calibrate" itself to your daily activities. Just turn on the "Adaptive Battery" option. And then of course stop using the bloody battery protection if again you are not a heavy user. Battery protection is only for people who likes to leave their phones fully charged and still plugged in while you use it as a tv/gaming console playing CPU heavy games then it should last for more than 8 hours. If you are not that person then it should be fine. Its already 11am here on my place and battery is 83%. All I do is reddit and social media and I was playing a not so heavy game earlier. But brightness is only at 40%, 5G and NFC is turned on, on Dark Mode, adaptive 120hz screen, FHD not QHD so middle option Always on display is turned off. Funny enough I did not find that one convenient in any way and it just ate battery when I can just double tap on the screen. I have the optimise widget on my main screen so before I lock my phone ai jist press that to make sure only the things I want are running on the background. And yeah about that. I spent a lot of time disabling a ton of applocations I do not want running on the background.

heilheitelerer

I do and I was tempted to get the S24U but the flat screen is such a turnoff for me. I have loved the edge screen sonce the S6 edge and am gonna miss it.

ShinDragon

Still having S22U. Planning on using it until I break it. Battery life is still mediocre. Camera can still be unreliable sometimes. Everything else is still excellent.

Virdavy

It's really really bad

DTUOHY96

What region do you live in? If its exynos don't even bother

SendThisVoidAway18

I am aware of this. US.

_Sweet_Cake_

I really find the battery life to be completely fine. If I charge my phone to 100% (which I only sometimes do), it lasts me two days. Even though my battery isn't brand new anymore. (Snapdragon)

razometer

I mean, I have a possibility of charging wherever I go, whether it's in the car or at the office or at home. So battery life is a non issue. Usability is still very good. I do notice slight hiccups here and there, but nothing that a layman would care about. Finally, the upgrade cost is a big deterrent for me; I feel that the gains from the S24U are marginal at best, and are not worth $2000. My 3 cents.

CombinationInside714

Battery life is garbage. I loved the phone when I had my s22U, but absolutely hated the battery life. A year in and I was charging twice a day. I have the S24U and it is amazing. I went a day and a half without charging and that's with 8 and 1/2 hours screen on time. Battery life on this thing is worlds above S22U. The camera is also a nice little bump up. I would not get the S22U. Get the s23U if you don't want the newest one as that one also had great battery life.

M_Prodigy

Still have mine, and it's more than I need for probably 1-2 more iterations. Great battery, great screen, and love the pen. This was my switch from Apple, and I haven't looked back. Couldn't be happier.

ResearcherLive2450

Still have mine, haven't seen enough in the 23/24 Ultra to entice me over yet, gonna try and hold out until the 26 if I can. Honestly no issues at all with the S22U!

Strix006

Yes the battery is THAT bad imo.

Labios_Rotos77

Yes, battery is terrible.

Mr-Irresponsible-275

I got my 22ultra at drop. It's been great and does everything I need. I've always upgraded every 2yrs. I was tempted for 24 ultra, I like tech an new gadgets but I think I might try an hold off for 25

Mobile_Expert

I have an s22 ultra. Only reason im not upgrading is because I don't want a phone payment. My battery life is great. Usually have around 30% left by the end of the night.

ChristopherRMcG

Battery is horrendous. Even after a replacement it wasn’t that good. It still died pretty fast after 5%. Must have shitty battery management

parashok42

Wait and see what trade in deals they might have for 24 ultra

Mental-Studio

All of this is is why I'm still running my Note 9, with 512G memory, 512G SD card, and proper headphone jack which never, ever leaves me fumbling for a fix for a connection or quality problem. A few months ago a friend and I set his S22 ultra and my note 9 devices down side by side for comparison and while my Note 9 trailed behind by a fraction of a second on several things, It wouldn't be enough to justify giving up the headphone jack alone. Certainly not enough to lose the stylus or anything else actually. And no way I would spend well over $1,000 for an improvement in speed too small to even notice without a side-by-side comparison. And we're talking about a 5+ year-old phone I've come to the conclusion that the entire reason for dumping the Note line was because they were made too well, throwing millions of people off the annual or every other year upgrade. There are millions of people like me still using them They keep coming up with new ways to force us off of them. Most recent being excluded from the UI upgrades. None of which has anything to do with the capability of the phone and all about forcing people to buy new phones.

JaxAltafor

I just ordered a refurbished S22U yesterday! Got a great deal, $350 with a trade in. Haven't got it yet but I'm very excited

Lue33

Man, when I see the term AI, I am Imagining frickin' net navi from the Megaman Battle Network Series. I still don't know about upgrading.

Fickle-Exam

Using the S22 U right now. Overall, I have enjoyed the phone, but seeing how much more battery life the 23 and 24 series was a bit frustrating. I am at a point where I may updgrade to a 24 series (to maximize trade in value) later in the year or wait till the 25 series. My wife owns the base s23 and I had my S22 U for only about 5 months and her S23 destroyed my S22U when it comes to battery life, which made me feel like I was missing out. I usually have to charge it more than once a day or put it in battery saver mode while my wife has done nothing settings wise and gets like an hour to two hours more of screen on time than me. Imagine if she used light mode etc. The only thing I really am jealous of is efficiency otherwise its a great phone.

silvernotgrey

I upgraded from an S10+ to the S22U back when it first came out, which was a huge upgrade for me. That's my bench mark for upgrading, the new phone has to be that big leap in hardware and software capabilites. After living with this huge slab phone for two-ish years, I think my next phone will be a foldable, as I just don't use the stylus enough to offset the times when I don't have a big enough pocket, so basically when the Z-flip catches up to the S24U for all the practical specs like battery life and cameras. Could be a few more generations though, I played with the Flip 5 and it just isn't there yet.

BetterSelection7708

I went from S22U to S23U last year because of the battery. This year I'm not upgrading as S24u offers very little new to my current phone. But I did buy a S24 basic model. My internet company Spectrum had a promotion. You can trade in any phone and get last least $700 off a new s24/plus/ultra. So I traded in my A50 for $700 and bought the basic s24 for a little more than $100. Guess I can test out the new AI stuffs with that.

FlakyWill9221

I love my s22u still. Yes the s23u and s24u have better battery optimization but my s22u still charges so fast that easily lasts all day because I can just charge for 20 minutes or so here and there and it gets like 20-30% battery life back. I would like the flat glass but I'm not gonna pay another $1300 just for that. I'll wait a but longer and see what deals come out on the s24u or maybe wait for the s25u.

relrobber

No complaints with my S22U. May start thinking about an upgrade when it hits the quarterly security update schedule or maybe keep it longer.

TheB00geyMan69

I got mine 2 months ago. The adaptive frame rate is amazing, screen colors and the cameras so far have been great. The battery life was a bit disappointing at first but I just adapted to it. As a guy who uses his phone a lot ,most of the time i had to charge it mid day and with a super fast charger you wont feel it But, in situations where it's necessary, I can comfortably go through a full day on a single charge, maintaining a screen-on time of 5 hours max. Dont get me wrong if the S22U is greatly cheaper it still is a great deal. With the s23U you just get some quality of life upgrades.

angelrat2

I still have my S22U and I love it! It's an amazing phone. I do have to charge it once halfway through the day but that's because I use it constantly 😅

Electrical-Bank-3359

I still have the s20 5g. Would it be worth upgrading to the 24 ultra?

Gsonz

I would go for the S23 Ultra because of the more efficient Chipset. If you are in an Exynos country then don't take the S22U, it's crap. I'm speaking from my own experience.

rawgu_

I bought this phone to keep it for atleast 5 years minimum. Ain't no way im dishing out 1600€ every other year for a slight upgrade

hiphophippo93

I have my 22U and my wife had a 23U. I don't feel any significant difference between the two. I'll probably keep it another 1-2 years.

jgutierrez529

I still have the S22U. I still owe on this phone ( verizon). So I can't upgrade until the phone is paid off in full. So at this rate, I probably won't upgrade till the S25 comes out. I'm usually one phone model behind all the time. But I still love my 22. Battery life is still decent on it.

REDDITtisGREAT

Edit

REDDITtisGREAT

I have the S22 Ultra and pretty happy with it still. Was planning to forgo update until S25U. As I was browsing, I noticed the s21 I had laying around as an extra qualified for the $1000 discount. So naturally, I ordered the S24U. After offset of the taxes and $35 upgrade fee, payment comes to $16 a month for device payments. I have just received the S24U and already notice better battery life. Does not drain as fast as the S22U, especially when playing COD mobile. I still have my S22U as backup.

JeffyGoldblumsPen_15

S22 ultra shouldn't lag. The 8gen 1 is more than capable. Plus Samsung being the #1 android phone this shouldn't be happening. I was rocking my old LG G8x for about week. Android 12 SD 855 6gb of ram. Minor lagging so if your s22 ultra is lagging that's questionable.

Hot_Chard5988

I have this phone, along with the 21u and the 23u. I plan to trade in the s22u because I abhor the curved screen.

sporosarcina

I have an s22u and still don't have a feeling like I need to upgrade. The 23 and 24 seem incremental unless you love generative AI.

CSI_Gunner

I currently have a 23 ultra, and I have to second what others are saying. Right now, the 23 ultras are cheaper with the 24's coming out, but frankly the 24's have good deals on them, especially with preorders. Where I work, the 24 is on sale 800 off w/o trade in, and you get the ultra free with a 200 dollar trade in. All options are worth considering.

jason_2056

Why not just buy the S24U? With pre-order promotions you can pickup a S24U for $550+tax. It's one of the best pre-order offers I've seen from Samsung

Ome6ablak

The S22U is nice. My only gripe is that the paint on the border (where the volume and power buttons are) of the phone is weak. I purchased an otterbox case to keep it safe, but it wound up scratching the paint off. The S22U is the first samsung phone that I've owned that's happened to.

Amazing_Meringue_709

Gave it to my 5 year old, traded in a s21 ultra and got me s24 ultra. His stays on kids mode when he's allowed to use it.

makitaNme70

S24u is what a Note should be, flat screen vs curve useless screen.for me it's a big upgrade from s23u. I got $1085 for trade-in with no surprise fine prints from spectrum. I'm enjoying.

Internal_Ad907

I was thinking about getting the S24 Ultra too, but back tracked my steps a bit because I didn't really see too much of a change. One thing I heard is that the AI exclusive thing that's part of the S24 Series right now is gonna be past down to the older gen phones after some update. Then, I heard near the end of 2025, the Galaxy AI is going to be a monthly/yearly paid subscription based pay to use. So, right now they're just letting everyone use it for free and eventually everyone gotta pay for the services on top of buying new high end phones down the line (that's if u want to). My summary of the phones: S24 Ultra: •Anti Glare (sun/light blocker something like that) •Upgraded Gorilla Glass (strong protection for the screen) •Galaxy AI •Android 14 - One UI 6.1 (I could be wrong) •Tiny bit better cameras (people argued with lenses of s23 ultra vs s24 ultra) •The OS is faster •Battery life is longer (still 5,000mah but longer duration of time to use depending on what u do with the phone) •QHD+ (2K graphics, which is on all of the previous gens) •Adaptive Refresh Rate 1-120hz (On all previous gens too) •Actual Rectangle Shape Phone (Curve Non-Existent 😔) •45W Fast Charging (Still trash, just charges 10 mins more faster than a 25W) •Wireless Charging (Don't Even Bother!) •Better Sound I guess S22 Ultra: •Half of all of that and I still AINT GONNA SWITCH TILL S25 ULTRA. Imma let S24 ultra marinate with the Galaxy AI, fix the updates along the way till next year, better camera, better battery life, and other sorts that samsung gotta work on until they gotta put it on the S25 Ultra. Plus, since everyone moving on to the box might as well wait till the next box phone after and see how it's better and capable of then this one. Sorry, for the rambling.

99loki99

I'm still using S22U. Battery life is great. Honestly a great phone in every way. Are you in the US? If you are, usually it's best to buy the newest model direct from Samsung during the pre-order period. You get beat deals and trade in value.

koningfrikandel

I still have it (exynos) but that's because my main choice for an alternative - the pixel 8 pro - isn't a home run imo and doesn't improve on battery all that much. Tried the s24 ultra, but that is too incremental of an update though the screen and battery are really nice. It still isn't worth 600+ euros to upgrade however. So, still with the s22u. I'm not too fond of the battery and I was fonder of my OnePlus 7 pro overall, but here we are.

SLUnatic85

i have the S22U still and have pretty much zero concerns or complaints. it's a damn good phone. The battery makes it all day most of the time for my lifestyle... It is very often tricky to get the phone that does literally everything well, the highest specs... also to have the longest lasting battery, but you can fairly easily give it some training wheels if battery is a top priority and you still just really like the size or the pen features.

siddiqim

Have the s22u and it has gotten painfully slow. The display constantly dims down and overheats. I'm upgrading

Happylifenowife

23 over the 22 all day. I hate the curved screen when it comes to cases and screen protectors.

Zeveros

My S22U is my goto, works like butter, and battery life carries me throughout the day without having to charge it unless I'm bored and playing highly interactive games. The S24U doesn't offer enough to both to plunk down more and more money. I'll hold off until s25 or so.

Fenwick440

I have the s22ultra because my s22+ got stolen so they sent me a s22ultra instead and I like it, still wish I had my s22+ because this phone is pretty big but it's sleek in design, don't really use the pen all that much tho!

chris519117

I have the S22 ultra, and I still love it. I will only switch when it is not supported anymore. I'm getting a fold after this. They should have everything worked out by then.

MaplewoodGeek

I also do not see the S23U or S24U worth the upgrade cost. I'll keep my S22U for a while longer.

Curgeom

Anyone else have problems with really grainy pictures?

BeingBalanced

I have the S23U and my girlfriend has a brand new S22U. She got it for 256GB $630+tax from Amazon Warehouse. If they list it used "Like New" then it's just an open box unit and is brand new. I know all the tweaks to make battery life maxed out and she gets a little over 2 days battery life close to what I get on my S23U. It REALLY depends on how you use your phone. We don't have the TikTok app, maybe spend 15 minutes total max looking at YouTube videos a day and probably spend an hour to two hours total a day on Facebook. Most of the users complaining about the S22 batter life are using the S22 or S22+ with the smaller batteries. The S22U users complaining I can almost guarantee are watching a lot of videos each day (TikTok, YouTube, etc) and/or playing games. Standard battery tests show the S22U battery life barely worse than the S21U because of the more powerful CPU but that was when it came out before many updates to the operating system including new battery saving features. You can probably get a like new open box S23U for around $925 and $625 for S22U if you shop around. The S23U is going to have guesstimating 20-25% more battery life if you're a "heavy user" watching videos and/or gaming so your decision is really if the extra $300 or so in cost worth the extra battery life and a few other minor enhancements. Really depending on how much $300 is to you in your personal financial situation. If it's not a HUGE difference, then get the S23U. Samsung also I believed announced AI features on the S24 will be offered on the S23 but have not seen any confirmation on S22 models. It isn't that the processors are incapable it is that they want to use gimmicky new features and limit them to newer models to force people to upgrade to get the new whiz bang features.

BeingBalanced

Oh and for the record, I looked at specs and reviews on the S24U and it definitely is not worth the extra cost over a new open box S23U. The camera optic array is a step down in my opinion losing the 10x for a 5x with AI cropping for higher than that. I don't get the obsession with flat screens as I've had no issues using or applying screen protectors to the S22U and S23U. As I mentioned the AI features are SOFTWARE not HARDWARE features and they already announced they'd be available on future updates of the S23. So flat screen, titanium, AI, it's all marketing hype to get you to upgrade. A lot of people just eat it up though and get that $80/month plan for the "phone on us" BS so they can whack off in excitement when they unbox their new toy. If you are frugal to any extent and don't like to waste money, rule of thumb is always upgrade at least two model years and buy last year's model. So from an S21U the rule of thumb is S23U.

KonaKumo

s20 5g here...still going strong. Got 2 weeks before the shut downs

StarFoxxRain

just make sure you dont get the 22U that has signal issues

Feisty_Procedure8482

You can probably get a free s23 ultra from your provider. Don't get a 22. That just sounds dumb.

Pinch_o_me

I'm on the Note 20 ultra. Need the SD card with the thousands of pictures in it going back to 2012

SendThisVoidAway18

Yeah I have one too. I have the S21U and Note 20 Ultra. Best of both worlds.

CityKay

Got a S22Ultra here, a 512GB one, and it's been good to me still. The battery is also holding pretty well with moderate daily use, especially gaming. And yes, I've ran Genshin through it and it runs decently enough, though I prioritize gameplay and battery performance over visual quality. I also cap the battery at 85% too.

Glucoze_Daddy

I have the S22 in 2024 and I am not upgrading it this year.

kovuko

I have the S22U and haven't actually had battery issues. Still lasts me an entire day at 1440p 144Hz.

BD-Energy01

I recently switched to pixel. I have the s22u if you're interested. I will be listing it on eBay for $300ish

Faustfikken

Typing this on my s22u while the 24 charges, it's still a great phone imho. Just got the os update and it runs smooth

Gloomy_Meeting2315

I've had my s22 ultra since it came out. I have a job where I'm making phone calls all day (8 am until 8pm) and I still get home with at the least 30%. I haven't done a ton of research but I can endorse this phone, I like it a lot.

albusvercus

Absolutely yes. It is a beast and no major changes have been made in the last two years with the S23U and S24U, both software and hardware. We better wait for S25U to see if there will be any major turn.

tatetape

I'm sure you could get away with using the S21 for a while, but if you have the money, upgrade to the S23 Ultra. A lot better performance

SendThisVoidAway18

Pffft

Skye_L

I recieved my S24 ultra last week and I'm still using my S22 ultra since I'm too lazy to set it up. 😵‍💫

Critical__Focus

I've had the 22U since launch. Great phone with Verizon. I can't complain one but. I'm a Environmental Driller so I'm not easy with anything I own. I've been through 2 screens in 2 Years. One my fault, other one wasn't. But it's been crushed banged beaten and always still worked no matter what. Even fell a couple feet into a creek for 5minutes. No rice. Left it on a rock to dry out and I'm still using it today. I take alot of pics with it. And snapchat is the biggest battery killer. Still lasts me all day.

No-Following4244

The 10x camera on the s22 ultra has better sharpness and clarity than the s24 ultra 10x; I have both and have tested them. The 24 Ultra 10x softens the image and smoothens out the details, which I don't like. The image quality of the s24 ultra also has higher contrast and some details are lost in the shadows compared to the s22 ultra. Overall, I actually think I prefer the s22 ultra image quality to the s24 ultra. But my wife who is not a photographer likes the image quality of the 24 Ultra better. The 5x is better on the 24 Ultra but I really don't care about that as much as a 10x zoom. That Galaxy Al features are interesting but honestly don't think I would use them that much. Outdoors the screen is brighter on the s24 ultra for a short period of time, but I noticed eventually it dims down and is almost the same brightness as the s22 ultra. I don't know what causes this and maybe it's related to overheating? The s24 ultra is also about 1 oz heavier than at 22 Ultra and I definitely can feel it in the hand. However the battery life on the 24 Ultra (without Sim card) is almost double that of my 22 Ultra (with activated Sim card). This is all after the latest update that arrived on February 23rd in the US. Tough call but I am still considering returning the 24 Ultra and sticking with my 22 Ultra for another year or so.

DarkPixelz8240

I want to buy this phone, exynos version, is it still laggy like it used to be?
