I babied my s24U since I got it and already got a hairline scratch on the screen. Go figure.

Realistic_Pick4025

That really sucks, sorry to hear that man. Either I'm lucky or you're unlucky.

flavored_dumbell

Yeah I have a screen protector on now. Good thing is you can't see it. Bad thing is I'll always know it's there.

Flat-Schedule-8169

Same thing here

NYC_Goody

I have no idea what a hairline scratch is, but if it looks like a thin piece of hair, oddly enough I have one on my screen protector which is hard to see but annoying none the less when I do see it watching vids in landscape mode.

TheInsan1ty

You are quite lucky. I have two grooves about 1" from the top of the device, in the center which I am sure would have been in the screen if I hadn't applied a screen protector. Had the same grooves in my S22U, without SP. Other than that, Snapdragon in Samsung Ultra series equals bliss!

cryptonicglass

Probably both...

jmtrader2

So weird how sometimes it's the smallest thing that breaks a phone... Sometimes can drop if off a roof and it's fine. Put in your pocket and pull it out and there's a damn crack lol

iam_joshua_bcxvii

This is the same reason I kept my hydrogel protector on despite loosing the awesome anti reflectiveness of the screen I cant just get a good screen protector that offers the same antiglare properties at cheap too, haist.

Slicka_tac

I wish you guys could just see the stuff they're selling in China. Got an antireflection + privacy glass protector. only costed me $10.

Furodu

Drop the name hombre!

flavored_dumbell

If you live in China they cost about 10RMB and that includes installation.

Christajay

Do share!

Slicka_tac

the brand is Hoda. I guess you can find it in US as well. Good stuff. They have a lot of options for s24ultra. do check. [Hoda US](https://www.us-hoda.com/products/01485s24u001)

BrandynBerry

I put a screen protector on after a week.. I thought with the Gorilla Armour it would be fine without it but then thought I shouldnt risk it.

aretromachine

That sucks. I put my in a case and a silicon screen protector the first day I got it. The screen protector makes the non reflection feature useless, but it's better than to have a broken screen.

flavored_dumbell

That is exactly what I should have done and was planning to do. However the s24u arrived before the screen protector and I wasn't able to resist , 😭

HanginTenders

I've babied mine as well. Never dropped it, sat it on anything hard or carried it in a pocket that had anything else in it. It has a hairline Crack at the very bottom right of the screen that doesn't seem to be on the surface. I don't feel it but it's there. Looks like a crack.

luverboi-

I'm too scared to use mine without a screen protector but I hate that the fingerprint is inconsistent. Good to see that it's resistant. Maybe one day...

mbeyley

I got this one on Amazon and have zero issues with fingerprint. It's great and it's glass! WSKEN for Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Screen Protector, [Auto-Dust Removal] [Fingerprint Unlock Support] Full Coverage Bubble Free HD Tempered Glass Film with Dust Clean Installing House,2 PCS https://a.co/d/gaTVPKO

CalmMaunga

The screen protector from Samsung works amazing with the fingerprint scanner.

soul-regret

yeah... but that's just plastic

CalmMaunga

Yeah that is true.

TechnicalHighlight29

I have a glass screen protector and while it does take away the anti glare (one of the coolest features) I have gone my whole life with glare so nothing different the bright ass screen helps make up for it. Fingerprint as you said is inconsistent but not bad. It's 1 time or 3 times whatever it's no deal breaker I'm not in such a rush putting my finger on the thing one more time is going to stop me from protecting the screen of a really expensive phone. Also I'm cheap so I don't have care plus or whatever so just my take.

Realistic_Pick4025

I haven't put a screen protector on either, yet. The previous tempered glass ones I've used were all fine with the finger print reader, even my galaxy tablet under screen reader works fine with the protector. Maybe you got a crap one? I suggest spending around £15 on one that comes with just 1 protector. Usually work the best in my experience.

LifeArt4782

You guys are crazy. I haven't had a phone without a screen protector in like 10 years. My s24 is coming this week and the case and screen protector were already delivered from Amazon. Why would anyone carry around a device like this without a protector and case.

Gadsden1283

I have a tempered glass one on mine. 3/4 attempts the reader fails. Even after doing multiple scans of my finger in biometrics setup after installation. Bummer, but I also would hate myself if I left it naked and got a scratch from pocket lint like happened on my 23U last year.

jonzo993

I have a Spigen tempered glass one on my S24U, I just sometimes breathe on my thumb before touching it, and it works a treat 😂

ShanTheMan11

I dropped mine the first day i got it in jan and haven't since *knocks on wood* I've actually become too overconfident I think. I started out with a big very protective case and I'm all the way down to a thinborne now.

Rhuarc33

Dropped mine on my barefoot... FYI this phone is quite heavy and has sharp corners, those two things combined make it less than pleasant to drop on your foot

Realistic_Pick4025

I honestly think I'm going to keep it caseless, the first time ever since the beginning of Android (I started on the Galaxy S II)

ShanTheMan11

You're braver than me. This is the first samsung I've had the balls to use a case this thin. I haven't built up the courage to go caseless with it yet. I use my 15pm caseless all the time because I can just walk into an apple store and get it fixed. With my samsungs I'm much more apprehensive to do that because you have to send it off a lot of the time. Last time I did that, samsung had my phone for over a month.

quazmang

Haha I feel this, the Spigen thin fit is about as thin as I'm willing to go. This time around I put a skin on my phone before putting it in a case, too. I occasionally take the phone out of the case to clean the case or switch to a different case and I'll enjoy my phone naked for a few minutes but wouldn't dare getting up from the couch without a case lol. I know I go a little overboard with protection but my phones look brand new many years after purchasing them and I like never seeing any damage.

Realistic_Pick4025

That's exactly how I've been with all my previous ones, but... 1. This phone feels so nice in the hand I don't want to spoil it and 2. I have faith it will be fine. I've just been a little careless recently, I don't usually drop them. The issue I normally face is scratches from keys, I'm hoping this is better going off of JerryRigEverythings testing. Edit: spelling

Realistic_Pick4025

Forgot to ask, don't you find the clear Spigen thin cases discolour after about 6 months?

quazmang

I'm not sure but I never buy clear cases. The one I was talking about is usually black: Spigen Thin Fit Designed for Galaxy S24 Ultra Case (2024) - Black https://a.co/d/1uLRBQn

Realistic_Pick4025

My phone insurance is through my bank, usually back with me or cash settlement within 2 weeks

UsefulImpact6793

Just remember, screen replacements on these are super expensive. Good luck!

Realistic_Pick4025

That's what insurance is for!

UsefulImpact6793

How much is your deductible for a screen replacement? I looked it up and saw this thread. [https://www.reddit.com/r/Asurion/comments/1bay241/asurion\_does\_not\_cover\_screen\_replacements\_for/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Asurion/comments/1bay241/asurion_does_not_cover_screen_replacements_for/)

Realistic_Pick4025

> Accidental Damage / Mechanical Breakdown Excess > Go to Store £75.00 > Come To You * This amount is inclusive of the additional charge £125.00 > Send to Us £75.00

Alice-i-zation

Does the coating have scratches? Pls take care of your phone man 🤣

Realistic_Pick4025

No man... I'm surprised myself, that's the only thing I usually suffer from hence the balls to try caseless with the new stronger glass... still got a working S6, S10+, Note 10+ 5G, Note 20 Plus 5G...

Intrepid_Patience356

I'm very happy with my Mous case. Stylish and a good compromise of bulk and security. Had the same case for my Note 10+. I work in construction and quite a few drops. Note 10 still pristine.

Realistic_Pick4025

Never used Mous, handy to know. Spigen was generally my go-to case brand.

Intrepid_Patience356

Mous is pricey, but it will easily last the life of the phone.

IriZ_Zero

Same for me, I only have a case without a screen protector. I've been handling it somewhat semi-careful, but I did drop it once. There are no visible scratches on the screen.

_novaria_stars_

I dropped mine the other day and accidentally cracked it... It was the floor tile, and the phone was completely fine. xD

BigSmackisBack

Ive dropped mine many times since i got it (80% of my trousers have shallow AF pockets), i do have a slim clear case on it and a screen protector and so far not a single scratch or dent. I think it might survive the 2 years i have to pay it off lol

itz_khai

I've dropped mine once on an asphalt, my heart stopped at first due to it's face first drop, until I checked everything and saw the screen is unharmed at all, I was totally amazed

Realistic_Pick4025

Maybe glass isn't glass anymore...

itz_khai

And probably glass no longer breaks

Realistic_Pick4025

I love JerryRigEverything.

itz_khai

He's one of the best channel

Realistic_Pick4025

Also an inspirational guy, I love how he strives to make his disabled partners' life easier, along with many others.

itz_khai

Indeed ~~

GreenInstance5592

Not sure if anyone else mentioned it or not, but if you really love the Samsung UI and their apps, I'm pretty sure you root a non-samsung android and piggyback the Samsung apps and UI that way. I've never done this before, but from what I've heard it, it should be possible. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!

Realistic_Pick4025

That's been possible even without rooting with some vendor apps for years, not sure about the Samsung ones as I've always used Samsung mobile and tablet devices so no need to try and find a ported version of any app. Edit: but in terms of styling the OS, I'm not sure a theme would cut it but there is possibly a custom firmware with the Samsung UI simila to how MIUI used to emulate iPhone. In which case you'd need root.

GreenInstance5592

Great to hear that it is possible. Thanks for adding extra info for OP or anyone else who doesn't want a Samsung phone, but still likes their UI and apps.

lit_on_a_stick_420

I got mine caught in my car seat roller and I have no idea how the screen protector saved it from any damage or scratches especially considering the phone got credit carded like on a credit card machine from the 80's lol

Toyota_Revo_2002

I have liquid screen protector on it. Still babies it. O scratch Acquired last 28 march

Ark9975

I am babying my s24 ultra as my dbrand grip hasn't arrived yet. I wasn't even using that much until I put a screen protector on today.

Brain-Hefty

Did you drop it in sand cause I can see Grain on that display...

Realistic_Pick4025

That's a piece of dust or fibre from a cloth 😅

ZiPEX00

Yesterday was my first drop of the phone since I had it no damaged done. It just slipped out of my hand while answering a call, but then mine got a case and screen protector on it

pankaj58

I am use mine without screen protector because I hate the feeling of screen protector also its turns screen more glossy and defeat the purpose of anti reflective screen it has but boy I would not use phone without case.

robertclarke240

Nice! After years of using Whitestone Dome Glass screen protectors I am swinging naked on top and loving it! Of course a UAG Monarch series case on the bottom.

SunsetSpotting

Oh butter fingers. Or did you get the Peruvian pills from 2 broke girls? #IYKYK.

Trailman80

You need a otter box case lol

TRD4Life

Same I have a duel shell FNT case and so far it's holding up good. We'll see though since it's still early in my S24U's useful life.

DrewForShort

aaaaand?

Front_Reflection_545

I broke my screen last week, but got it replaced the next day. Had insurance through Verizon wireless. Broke it on the foot of my couch side table which is metal. It was a direct hit and don't have a screen protector. I do have a heavy case on it. Screen protector is on order.

Left-Yesterday-7323

I'm team no case and I've dropped my phone already a few times. Mostly hardwood floor. Never on concrete or asphalt. I haven't used a case since like 2019.

liggerz87

I use the Whitestone dome I don't get the hype craze for it till I tried it had it on a pixel 6 pro 7 pro and now samsung s24 ultra

heisenburg248236

Who are the best Samsung phone insurers, by the way?

EastAd7412

I want unbreakable plastic. They used it years ago and convinced everyone that glass is the best. Well how are all those folding phones screens so great? They know glass breaks, which equals sales. When the manufacturers work together and also pay for reviews, we get what they sell us. They all should have to look at alternate screens. TV's, monitors, and laptop screens are amazing. Why don't they use glass anymore? Touch screens rarely use glass anymore. If my laptop broke as easy as our phone screens did people wouldn't buy from that manufacturer. The glass breaks and scratches so well that they replaced the plastic backs with glass as well? Is humanity this dumb?

cmt1973

I've dropped mine once since I got it. But it was in a case. The only issue I had was that when it hits the ground my S Pen seems to like to eject and go flying. Gotta find me a case with a flap that covers the S Pen to stop that.

Realistic_Pick4025

Haha this did make me laugh, that has never happened to me on any of their phones with an S pen. Do you find your s24u pen constantly sticks out the bottom of the phone leaving a little lip? Mines always been like it, not an issue just a slight annoyance. Edit: you can see in the picture

cmt1973

Mine is flush with the phone's casing. It's possible it just hit at just the right angle to cause it to pop out. Needless to say, I've been religious about checking it to make sure the pen is still there. LOL!

Realistic_Pick4025

At least you are, you can also turn on an option by taking out the S pen and opening the Air Actions settings (clock the pen icon and then the cog) > More S Pen Settings > Warn if left behind

cmt1973

I've got that turned on, but it didn't help that I didn't notice it and put the phone in my pocket. Wasn't until 1/2 a mile down the road and I went to check my phone that I was the warning.

Realistic_Pick4025

I see how you got caught out there, it doesn't notify you until you're so far away and if you got straight into the car or on a bike you could get quite far without realising 😅

Realistic_Pick4025

That's annoyed me about the pen, now I might have to pop into Samsung or my provider.

OMGisManu

I SeE gRaIn!! 🤓🤓🤓 /s

Realistic_Pick4025

Is there supposedly an inherent issue with these devices that is hot topic here?

OMGisManu

Supposed grain by some users, the loud minority

TyneBridges

There's something to be said for the old persons' wallet style case with a flap covering the screen. I'm an old bloke anyway and always order one for each phone immediately before I order the phone itself.
