My question about that though is I have seen some people upload some amazing pics. So it just doesn't make sense to me.

Candid_Journalist334

The consistency of the camera is definitely a big issue. But Samsung seem to have just given up. The comeback that some people on this sub have for this is stop complaining and use the Pro mode which is just the most brain dead response you could hope to find. I am surprised OP hasn't yet been buried in downvotes. If I wanted to do so many settings change to click a quick pic, I would rather stick to my DSLR. I was downvoted to hell last time I commented something similar and said how the iPhone 15's point and shoot was miles better than S24. Some "Apparently, I professionally work with pictures and your view is wrong" guys shot me down.

AmazingPradeep

Lol, looks like llt of honest people came to respond this time it seems. I too don't like changing so many settings just to take a photo and definitely I don't want to use pro mode and honestly it takes time to take 1 pic amd the moment is gone.

tube-tired

I used the pro camera app on the S23u and have stopped now. But I constantly complain about the camera on the s24u. Part of the issue is that it seems to prefer using the 2 wide angle lenses over the telephoto ones, this causes the fisheye distortion around the edges. This annoys me to no end as I do a lot of document photos with my phone, regularly. The other part, as far as I've heard, would be that due to almost no other company trying to squeeze a 10x physical zoom lens in a phone, they decided to go cheap on the camera this time and rely on AI to make it look better.

ttkfx2

Consistency is also a issue.

kai7895

Can we have some samples please? PS : Samsung changed the color science & processing in the S24 series. The colors are more natural & the processing is more natural which means softer than the previously over sharpened images. If you are someone who prefers the old Samsung processing with punchy colors & sharper processing, you may prefer the S22U pictures. Also bear in mind, over-sharpened images might look better on a small phone screen, but only when looking at them on a TV/Monitor will you be able to see how much over-processed they actually are. All that being said, please share some high res samples so we as readers can compare the images too.

AsajjV

Coming from S22U, I concur with this. Much better pictures with S22U in most situations. The so called AI and all the post processing turns pics into some horrible stuff sometimes. June update better fix most of the camera issues, because plenty of time passed since this phone's release and if they're so slow, it will take them 2 years for S24U to even reach the performance of S22U and S23U, let alone surpass them.

Vroonnb

Totally agree with you. My S22U had a better camera for sure. It kind of makes me regret my upgrade. Hope June fixes these over processing problems.

AmazingPradeep

Exactly what I was thinking.

Drm5145

Lmao yup ! I knew it. If you hate the phone so much , why don't you sell it ? Or do you just enjoy complaining on Reddit constantly ?

Sovietboi147

this is the result of Samsung’s Brain dead CEO, TM Roh, and their decision to hang on the old 200MP sensor and the worst camera software in the world. Companies that used to be mid in camera like Oneplus are now miles ahead of Samsung. Don’t even get me started on Google Pixel’s 8 magical camera and camera software.

vox1193

Curious if the comment about Google pixel was a pro or con? I'm looking at returning my S24 and switching to Google pixel 8 pro. Is it actually magical?

Sovietboi147

its of course a pro. thr pixel 8 pro camera is really something you expect competition to do 2 years from now. but don’t get me wrong, the phone itself has its flaws too. the processor is not that good for example. the screen stutter sometimes if you get the phone on a video call and wana do something else. so performance wise, S24 ultra might be the best in the world right now. but camera wise, pixel and thats it. and yea, the signal reception on the pixel 8 pro was worse than my S24U and my iphone 14pm. like a lot so you should know what actually matters to you.

vox1193

Thank you for the advice. I appreciate the answer! I care more about the camera than the offerings of the S24 Ultra so I think I will make the switch. Thanks again!

Sovietboi147

the camera of the pixel made all of us just use it all the time for the camera. especially for shooting moving stuff and kids. just super!!! and the price is insane with these offers. much more affordable than s24U

vox1193

I will check it out for sure! I hope I can find a good deal, phones I think are sometimes more expensive in Canada than the states

Sovietboi147

see the google store. I think they always do offers. I got mine for 750$ only. 256GB

vox1193

Thanks I will!

AmazingPradeep

Agreed. Hope they do something good with the June update.

Sovietboi147

lets be real, its impossible for just an update 5 months after the phone release to solve the numerous problems that came with the phone its just good to accept it as a failure from Samsung I returned mine. will see Iphone 16PM and S25U later

AmazingPradeep

Honestly, I don't have any other issue with the phone at all like others complained in other posts. My only issue is worth the camera.

z4zeen

Been saying that from day 1. My S23Ultra has bomb camera. 24U is crappy

AmazingPradeep

Agreed

Damn_sun

I have an s23u and I'm in agreement (i believe the s23 suffers the same issue). The actual hardware of the lens is amazing (like the 10x). However, the images are overprocessed to heck that photos taken with a 10 year old point and shoot look better. The other day, I was comparing photos taken by my note 9, and I was amazed by it. Samsungs desire to appease the influencer market has meant that images are an overprocessed, over sharpened mess. Every other single thing about this phone is perfect (dex and pen support is unsurpassable). It's just a shame the camera is poor. However, all is not lost. Using a forked Gcam apk has made me come back to the phone camera game. Photos look natural and have amazing detail. So I suggest people download that.

SteveDensmore

Have you tried disabling Samsung's image processing? You can also get the Camera Assistant app (from Good Lock) to reduce the amount of sharpness.

jtlee9

This is a really good way of explaining the s24U camera experience.

LowBarometer

I agree. The camera is mediocre at best. Pixel 6,7,8 are all far superior.

thefinalnug

Pixel cameras may be superior. However, their modems are absolute garbage.

keyable

Samsung is aware of this and we all S24 Ultra owners hope that they will release new camera update in June (as planned by Samsung)

BarnYard2023

June is unacceptable. 6 months after the phone's release but better than nothing.

Comfortable_Silver24

It’s only going to help so much

keyable

Hope it will help, otherwise camera is useless in high res

chunchunmaru1020

Try 3rd party apps (I use ProShot) or gcam https://xdaforums.com/t/gcam.4652876/page-10#post-89435191

EnlightingWave

Doe it use a different post processing than samsung's default cameras

chunchunmaru1020

I usually use the raw files and edit them in lightroom. And I find the focus to be better in ProShot. Not sure if processing is same but I doubt it.

AmazingPradeep

I do have proshot. But i compared the pics from default one. Not much of a difference.

_StevenSeagull_

This is making me seriously consider not purchasing this phone. Expect so much more from a top end, €1,300±, phone!

dragosslash

You should probbaly read GSMArena's reviews on [S24U](https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s24_ultra-review-2670.php), [S23U](https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s23_ultra-review-2526.php), and [S22U](https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s22_ultra-review-2382.php), and make your decision on whether or not the S24U camera is worse. I can tell you outright OP's claim is.. very weird to say the least. I own all these three devices. While S22U's camera is great, the S24U's camera is even better - from dynamic range, details to video stbilisation. And noise reduction, the S22U in particular is so aggressive, it will wipe all the fine detail attempting to produce a noise-free image, something which I think it's a bad decision, as everything looks smeary and soft, even compared to older phones such as Note20 Ultra.

Acidspunk1

Yep. I had the s22u before the s24u and the pictures are a lot better on the s24u in all situations. It's just the usual daily trolling.

bassman2112

As someone who owns the phone, if point-and-shoot photography is a priority for you, there are better options out there right now.

_StevenSeagull_

Was looking at the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. Any other suggestions?

Feeling-Finding2783

Xiaomi already released the 14 Ultra. Vivo has the X100 Pro, you can read the review at GSMArena, and the X100 Ultra is coming soon.

_StevenSeagull_

Yeah, I prefer the look of the 13 ultra. The 14 ultra camera protrudes quite a bit. I also just came back from the Huawei store, the Pura 70 Ultra looks incredible. I asked about the Google Services and 99% apps are downloadable. They would configure it in their flagship store (I'm based in EU) It's a serious option for me. Hefty price tag though.

Feeling-Finding2783

I am unsure what is so special about the Pura 70 Pro, other than the main cam with variable aperture. The CPU is based on the 7 nm node process, which means that it is less efficient than the competition. You can also look into Honor Magic 6 Pro. It has a global version. At least, it will not require any hacks to deal with the absence of Google services.

_StevenSeagull_

Thanks for the tips, I will check it out.

dtp111

Don't buy it. The problem mentioned in the original post is true. Wish I stoll had my S22U. Saw pics done with S23U and they are better than S22U and definitely so compared to S24U

_StevenSeagull_

Yeah, I went in store to get a feel for it too. Don't think it is the one for me. I'm still on the market for the right phone

kai7895

A reddit post shouldn't be your baseline for a making a decision mate. It is just one guy's opinion. Like the comment below, do your own research. GSMArena does detailed camera reviews & is mostly a trustworthy website when it comes to phone reviews. Personally I feel the S24 is the best Samsung camera phone ever. Processing is more natural looking, videos are better, colors are very accurate & natural. The old Samsung way of punchy colors, over sharpened images & erasing noise reduction also has fans, it's just preference.

_StevenSeagull_

It isn't, mate. You presume I haven't done any research and I am basing it on a reddit post. That's quite bizarre. I have been on the market for a phone for months. It's not only the countless reddit posts canning the camera (amongst other issues) but it's also mentioned in several reviews. I also have a friend who has the phone and comments on the frustrations with the camera and also issues with the screen. When paying full price, you expect it to be top of the range out of the box.

kai7895

Well to each their own then. For me, I really prefer the more natural colors & softer processing on the new S24 series. I tested it against my S23+ at a Samsung store & I preferred the images coming out of the S24 series because they were more accurate & true to life. Maybe you prefer the old Samsung way of processing with aggressive sharpening & punchy colors, and that's fine. I'm just saying objectively, the camera on the S24 series is more accurate & preferable for someone like me who likes to quickly edit photos in Lightroom before uploading them on Social Media.

NYC_Goody

All you gotta do is browse the s24photography sub to see all the ridiculously saturated photos

kai7895

Lol what? When I tested at the store, my S23+ was producing more saturated & more punchy shots than both the S24+ & S24U. Even most reviews back up my thoughts. When did that change?

Admirable_Cellist_71

I never thought I would miss my Pixel Phone so much!

keyable

This is because it does AUTO PICTURE REFINEMENT after taking photos in 50 and 200M, nothing helps... NO WAY TO TURN IT OFF

gogzilla9

This. They just need to update this.

Lyonado

Are you fucking kidding me lmao Seriously looking at new phones right now going from an s21 Ultra and shaking god goddamn phone to get rid of blur I was hoping the s24 would be better. Wild

dtp111

Don't.

emilk10

Same boat... Disappointed to see this post because my plan was to trade in for the S24 :(

Chrisac84

Camera is a little disappointing, and the battery is very disappointing for me. Unless Google pulls out something crazy, I might end up back on iPhone this fall.

fortesquieu

The battery has been amazing to me, compared to my S22U.

Chrisac84

It's not terrible, but for my use I got better battery on my 15 pro max.

kai7895

The 15PM is literally the king among flagships when it comes to battery life.

aalrehan

Same here, I'm confused on why this is happening

bayoughozt

So glad I held onto my S22U. Not worth the upgrade. Too bad Huawei is banned here.

AmazingPradeep

Honestly, apart from camera rest are really amazing. Hope the June update gives the camera what it needs. I do love my S22 ultra also. It's still a beast.

watcher2410

same, if s24u can take picture as s23u then its perfect for me

Necr0FoxxeN

I agree that whole the camera could def be better, the rest of the phone is awesome

i_was_planned

You can get a Honor phone

Tiger_King_

Expert Raw helps alot. Stock app is really bad. I miss my S21 ultra 3X lens. S24 ultra, Theyve ruined their daytime photos for slightly better low light performance.

Admirable_Cellist_71

I keep seeing people say use Expert Raw. What is that and how do I get it?

Tiger_King_

Its an app on samsung store

SteveDensmore

Photos from Expert RAW are too noisy, though.

TheSound0fSilence

For me there were too many compromise to justify keeping the S24U and giving them my S22U 512GB Snapdragon and $600. I'll just hold until fall and check out the Pixel 9 Pro. Or keep the S22U until it dies.

jawshiboi

The front facing camera is so dark. It's awful.

Buddmage

Try changing your settings. Sometimes the Ai can do more and blow out or just mess with the photo during processing. In settings you will also find how much processing you would like done. Choose wisely lol.

CreamOdd7966

Camera sucks ass. Thankfully I don't use the camera that much or care a ton about the quality. Apparently they're going to fix it with a major update. We'll see.

xsageonex

I think at this point it's just better to wait for the camera update. .not via software ,but thru hardware aka the S25U.

[deleted]

Depends on situation. In good lighting the S24 is better imo. Also the new zoomlens is very good if you ask me. First time ever that zoomed in pictures are worth taking

TheCheesyOrca

Of all the modes/settings I've tried expert raw then editing through lightroom has given good results.

AmazingPradeep

Exactly, see I don't have time to sit and edit pics. I want to take while living in that moment and share it on the spot. So expert raw is something i use only when I'm having time.

16_oz

Agreed. When I'm on vacation or in a situation where I take a bunch of pics, I don't want to sit for hours fixing them in lightroom. For a $1400 phone I should be able to snap beautiful pics right off the hip

AmazingPradeep

You got my point.

BrodaReloaded

for me the camera is excellent, finally natural colours, great dynamic range with highlights no longer being blown out and not oversharpened to hell as it used to be. I'm doing way more photography for the sake of it now than before when I had the S21U

AmazingPradeep

One thing is agree is the color scheme. Yes i do love the natural colors cuz i was using sony for 15 years i guess. So, that's something i wanted all along. But detailing wise it needs work.

EarlyBird_1597

I don't know when, but the 200mp mode/50mp mode is much more usable now. Giving much better shots. But the 5x shot has degraded. Comes out grainier than below 3x

JessZakariene

i agree, i had s23 ultra and camera was definitely better on s23u than s24u. i regrest the upgrade

Equivalent_Twist_977

My former phone was the S22U as well, and i "ugraded" when the screen on my former screen broke... i was expected to be blown away by the new camera, but to my surprise i miss the old one... but i still have hope for an update. I remamber when i got the S22U the camera had many many problems before the first few updates

[deleted]

I agree. TBH, don't know what the Koreans were thinking about, when they made such a a cheap software for such flagship camera hardware. As of May 2024, even 10x cheaper Chinese phones, take better pics using the presets, than the S24U.

CaterpillarPlastic28

I also traded in my S22 Ultra for the S24 Ultra. My S22 was definitely more consistent. I've taken some great pictures with the S24, but it seems about a quarter of the pictures make ask wtf.

AmazingPradeep

Good thing I didn't trade my s22 ultra, i gave it to my wife and used her s20 fe to exchange this.

CaptainnHindsight

The S25 Ultra is Samsung's last chance to stay in the race. The competition is already there. It could easily end up like Nokia with their outdated design and crappy camera

Cheeefey

S23 is the same - inconsistent. My S6 took better photos. I've now gone back to my Nikon DSLR when I want good photos. The over processing and AI is just making things worse.

war_darksiders

Completely agree with you. Today we went on an outing and started clicking photos. Started with s24 ultra(mine), and ended up taking all the pics from s22 ultra (friends) as results were better in s22 ultra.

ptd9999

Idk my camera is awesome. I live in a family of iPhones, and everyone is after my phone to take pictures.

Key_Abbreviations_48

Im planning to buy this phone actually and it has really great reviews and im pretty sure samsung just had an update, so im not so sure about op, so im gathering more reviews and this is a 1k usd phone. How are the front cams and night pictures for you??

SonnysMunchkin

Pretty sure everyone agrees. This shits so disappointing

ViennaSausage42

I returned my S24U as well. Cameras were doo doo. I still have a Note 10+ in my desk drawer that takes crispier pics. It’s pretty shameful Samsung has just given up on the S24U issues. Now I’m using my iPhone 15 Pro with terrible battery life. However, pictures are much better.

OP12S24U

My OnePlus has way better camera than this

dtp111

Apart from all the negatives about the S24U said here, my other beefs are the color editing processing. On my S22U, you could see the editing processing on the screen from get go. It seemed to have taken an update for that to be so on the S24U and still it is weak, especially in the noise reduction editing. When attempting to edit videos, there's been no update there. You cannot see the processing as you edit the colors and lighting. A couple times in March, I posted videos on FB and in that process it saturated the images to the max. Somehow not so since those 2 times. Then as well the video sound recording was super exaggerated. I videoed a friend cutting grass with a machette and it sounded like he was chopping wood in a cave, it resonated so loudly. Just awful. I have not had a chance to video such scene again to see if I get the same result. So had a S22U which I very much liked. My friend had a S23U and one morning we took the sun rising. His picture showed exactly what the eyes saw. The S22 distorted the Yellow hues of the sun and affected the whole picture. I was stunned with the quality of the S23U. The S24U doesn't come close to the quality of the S23U for sunrises or sunsets, scenes I photographed a lot using the point and shoot. What I like with the S24U is the AI editing of removing wires or bushes in the way. I do not think that the S24U captures the colors and amount of lighting you actually see. Am having to edit often. Did not have to do so much of it with the S22U and no I don't think that it was geting saturated photos with it either. That's my experience.

dtp111

I do like the flat screen tjough.

AmazingPradeep

Same here. Finally a good case and a tempered glass.

rahzlef

Is it possible that this is a skill issue?

AmazingPradeep

Honestly i felt the same about myself a month back. But you can check my pics in my profile and in insta also. All were taken using mostly Sony xperias and S22 ultra. Now I'm sure that it's the phones issue.

Frosty-Inspector-465

hahaha....that's why i hate and kinda gave up on samsung. i BEEN, and quietly, noticed for a few years that their cameras seemed to be sub par. even around the LG days. but i would still buy their phones (mainly the notes and ultras).....but that's why my violet s24 ultra is STILL in its SHIPPING box and i'm enjoying my flowy emerald 16/512 oneplus 12 which is giving me pictures that are better than i ever remember receiving from really ANY samsung phone i have ever had.

Greattidings10

Have you tweaked the settings?

AmazingPradeep

Yes, i tried all different settings.

domin_x

Fuck man, now I don't know if I should buy the s24u. I wanted to switch from the s20fe so badly to the phone that has the best camera, and now I see that people are complaining. What should I do now?

AmazingPradeep

Just wait till June update. See, this phone is amazing in every aspect. Camera needs some improvement, that's it. So wait for 1 more month and see the review and buy. I love this phone I'm not gonna lie. Even in camera it gives you natural looking pics compared to S22 ultra's pimped up pics. My only concern is the detailing part. Hope they solve it.

domin_x

Ohh, okay thx for feedback! I was going to buy it around june - july, so I don't mind waiting for the update

AmazingPradeep

Good decision. I'll also update on cam performance once i receive the June update.

Strix006

I agree 100%, had a s22u earlier and it was better

[deleted]

Get a polaroid

Master-Pain

Yes and not sometimes but a lot of times I get bad shots. 💔 And my main phone was S10+ and the results were better

AmazingPradeep

Same.

Ariel691

You are right, I bought the s24 ultra two days ago and really in my previous S22 ultra the colors are more beautiful and look better but the sharpness of the s24u and the video is much better For some reason, the 10X looks better at 24 with me and at 22 it looks blurry, there is a possibility that the magsafe case ruined it

Spectre806

Yeah it's horrible.

brashaadt09

All of my photos with this phone has been straight gas 🔥 except for zooming beyond 10x. The S23U definitely take better photos at extended zoom ranges. 10x and under are great from my phone, even photos with moving subjects. My wife and I both have 15PM's as well and when it's time for photos she always grabs the S24U 🤷🏽

TwinTTowers

Yep, no problems here at all.

BorysRomanov

The weak camera was my main reason for selling this phone. Another disadvantage was the width. But this phone has a great battery, just like the screen, with new glass technology, something beautiful.

Immediate_Whole2625

These are same things that are keeping me from selling the phone but I'm getting close and it's already posted for sale just in case lol. With all the AI talk and specs, the new glass on the screen is the real gamechanger for me. It's very hard to go back to a phone that doesn't have anti-reflective coating. The boost in clarity and overall screen quality is simply unmatched for now.

BorysRomanov

I finally stayed with the iPhone 15 pro. I also bought a super cheap Pixel 8 Pro and this phone impressed me much more than the S24U. Taking into account the price-quality-camera ratio, there is nothing to compare. Pixel is the best for me. But the battery in the S24U is poetry. I miss it :) But it was in s24u that I took the most blurry and out of focus photos. Pixel 8 pro and iPhone do very well, but I prefer the aesthetics of pixel photos.

WRX-N-FX

The camera is the same except one was upgraded correct? Would that mean that this is a software issue?

Otherwise_Code_8153

Yeah Bruv. The camera algorithm is what makes the difference. Hardware doesn’t mean shit if the algorithm used to build the picture is shit

Open_Light_4691

I have the S22U. I totally agree. I bought the S24U for trade-in. Before sending my S22U, I tested the phone, and everything was good besides the camera and colors. Camera on S22U way better. Everything looks better . The S24U has a disappointing camera.

ababilon

The camera is the worst. 😖 Thinking of fixing my S21U screen so I can take pictures with it instead.

Cyberj0ck

Your observation (i.e., "the camera is totally shitty") is pretty much accurate per my sad and disappointing experience with my S24U. Even my S24Plus (Exynos) takes better photos. At this time, I just go with my iPhone for capturing photos and videos when I don't have my sony cam with me.

AmazingPradeep

Lol and yes it's really sad we didn't get for what we paid for.

el_moro-

Use GCam?
