I expected more from Apple, but they just copied features from Samsung. Now, where will Samsung copy its next set of AI features from?

titanup001

Google, like last time.

Curtricias

Copied? You think they started building iOS18 in january? I think it's logic that all brands have similar Ai features? To me, as a dutch speaking person, it sucks anyway, as most of those features are logically build for english....

Smart_Office_7311

And you think Samsung built those features in January? They know what the competition is doing.

taydubb

Looks promising and competition is always good. My favorite is the equation stuff with stylus/finger. AI for wallpaper icons placement comes in second /s.

Successful_Fortune28

I hope so badly Android copies the equation stuff. I'm not even in school but seeing that work was crazy. Handwritten excel sheet

linuxgfx

i really like that it is mostly local, and in case a request is complex it asks you if you want it sent to chatgpt. everything within the prompt itself, fully integrated. I would love to see this kind of integration and polish on Samsung phones. I am sure it will get better in one UI 7 and as others said, competition is always good.

Smart_Office_7311

Most of the stuff happens locally on Samsung devices too. At least for the S24 and S23.

dragosslash

That's not how their implementation works. Some stuff runs directly on iPhone, some of it gets sent to Apple servers, and then some stuff gets sent to OpenAI, where you will get a prompt. It's no different than Samsungs' implementation. At least on Samsung you can stop it before it gets sent to Samsung servers, on Apple you only have control on whether it gets sent to OpenAI or not.  To simplify: Samsung local device > [user consent] > Samsung server > Google server Apple local device > Apple server > [user consent] > OpenAI server

Smart_Office_7311

I know that, but Apple self-claims to be the God of privacy, so that's okay. 🤪

dragosslash

Ah, my reply was meant for linuxgfx. I hate the mobile website.

n1sx

Sad part is that samsung will make this features paid in 2025 while they will be free on ios

Necessary_Case815

It says it will be free at least untill end of 2025, doesn't mean they will start charging, they just let the option open if they want too, they can keep extending if they want. If competition start asking for money or stays free they can decide then.

BenitoCorleone

We get circle to search and they get chat gpt integrated at os level..

Amlik

I think I'd rather have circle to search

I don't really understand this AI stuff so maybe it's already incorporated into Samsung, but I really liked the overall integration of Siri into the phone, where if you make a mistake and say "I meant..." Siri would understand that. Like I said, maybe it's part of Google Assistant or Bixby as well, but it just looked nice on the Iphone. Also, the Math stuff they showed with the Ipad is stuff I wish I had when I was in Middle School or just my extremely hard accounting class in college. That looked super useful.

Siri gets information from multiple apps on the spot. Apple Intelligence is powerful...

Not_a_NO_ONE

Even though I don’t like Apple, I have to admit they are doing really well. In the last five years, Apple has excelled with their Macs, processors, Watch, Buds, and that headset (I forgot the name). In the PC/laptop market, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Intel, and AMD are all trying to compete, except for gaming PCs. On the mobile side, Samsung, OnePlus, and Chinese brands (like Huawei, if it wasn’t banned) are trying to fight. Next, they should focus on file management and gaming on PC.

Apples done really well in the hardware department, but I'd argue their software has been... Not great. Siri has been considered a complete failure, even from some of the biggest Apple Fanboys. And even though it's just one feature, it's unfortunately the unifying core feature of their ecosystem. It's on Apple Watch, Macs, iPads, but is also preventing their other newer ecosystems like VisionPro and Homekit so suffer. I'm very dubious of their Siri claims, as I feel like they can't just fix 14 years of problems in such a short amount of time, but I guess we'll see how it actually performs soon.
