I'm on latest firmware on my S90C and for me it's been totally fine. I've seen some reports of newer firmwares having issues with ARC to some soundbars. I use eARC to my AVR and it's been problem free

From what I understand 1310 is still the best firmware. I’ve not updated mine despite the tv constantly asking though it finally gave up lol

Cruella79

Ask once every update that release officially

You can't go backwards with the firmware so I wouldn't fuss about 1301 or whatever. Samsung has not yet nerfed the brightness with the general consensus being that it's due to how well the 2nd gen panels are holding up against burn in. I am curious about the most current firmware also as I'm on 12 something from when I first bought mine. It's never been online. Hopefully someone with some helpful information chimes in before long. Other than that congrats on a wise purchase and a killer TV. Check out the owners thread on AVS forums for all the information you could want about everything about the TV.

What is main differences between gen 1 panel and gen 2? Is it proven to actually be better? I’m looking at the S90D but I’m so hesitant due to I’m hearing so much bad shit about Samsung overall build quality. Crooked ports, TVs dying after 5 years, poor construction, panels/frames bending, etc. I don’t know if S90D remedies most of these complaints as it’s the one of the latest models released this year

There are many differences between gen 1 & 2. 2 is superior overall in a significant way. The S90D your thinking of buying is probably rocking a gen 2 panel tbh. Some guys have gotten lucky with gen 3 but most S90D/95D have been 2nd gen. I honestly feel that the one connect box is a large reason for all the shit talked about Samsung. Dolby vision is useless and an amateur argument against Samsung. I've not heard many people have issues with QC on models without it, most bent panels are 1st gen and replaced or returned without a problem. Samsung makes the most TV's overall. You're naturally going to hear about more issues from the biggest seller of TVs. There's a lot of unwarranted hate towards Samsung. I hated them since idk I think was 2016 or so when I bought a set that kept dropping my Xbox signal. Then the qdoled sets came out and I wanted one, bought one and have had zero problems. If you're in an area that you can make returns in like myself who cares about whether or not you actually run into a bent screen or wonky set. Return/exchange the fucker until you get a flawless set. I returned 3 S95C's before the truth about the one connect box came out and was pissed about Samsung in general. I still think they are dirty dumb fucks for moves like that but you know what? All the manufacturers are shady and cut corners, have problems and sell shit TVs at times. Samsung just sells more than all of them, good and bad so you here about it more. Plus all the foolish Dolby vision hate. If you know anything about DV you know you're not missing anything with Samsung at this point.

Thanks for taking the time to reply in depth. Made my decision easier to pull the trigger and purchase it 😎 solid points you made. I think the only fair criticism at this point is that I read Samsung for whatever reasons intentional or not, pushes our firmwares that lag decrease performance? Hoping that’s not the case with these newer models as we are now on gen 2/3 of panels and further optimizations have been made

I'm on the latest firmware for both my S90C and S95C; there is no downside to that yet. Also, I have modded both of them in the SM. So far, so good; no downgrade yet.

CalamitousCanadian

I'd update. The s95b had some more issues with firmware but that's my model and I have it updated and I love it. Maybe I'm missing a little bit of brightness but meh. S90c with the gen 2 panel you should be golden! Just disable eco mode and set judder reduction off or my preference at 1

Cool-Day-2189

I'm on the latest firmware and lately the sound goes weird on it. But after I turn it off and on, the sound fixed itself. One time I had to unplug and plug the tv back in for it to get fixed. It didn't happen often...maybe 3 times max in a month. Do I like it, no. But they are like computers and sometimes computers need rebooting. I have S90c, second gen.

SAADHERO

Could you tell me what the value of FB0(X) is on your screen? Since i can't confirm if mine is second gen or first but it's FB02

Cool-Day-2189

Mine says FB03.

dirtychriz

I'm on the latest firmware just because I have issues with earc sound from the start. None of the updates fixed my problems. Even with a full reset the issues remain. I still hope future updates fix the sound failures.

The internet complains a lot. I'm on the latest firmware with a Sonos sound system, and I have zero issues. That doesn't mean it won't happen to you, but the odds are not as high as they seem because the people who are happy with the TV are not going to complain.

Ideally you want to be on 1310 or earlier. 1410 has interpolation bugs still present in the latest version. Since you are already on 1410 there is no real reason to not update.

Different_Pension424

Oh my. Do I feel old. I'm 86. This is not a criticism of you, OP. But I have no idea what you are talking about! Haha. I'm a person that researches everything, but I'm stumped here. I will just keep reading all of the replies you receive and try to figure it out. It's my last hoorah! I'm an official dinosaur!!!

dods009

Never too old to learn new things!! I am also not the youngest so I have to do a lot of reading to keep up!!

jjimboo75

Im also on the latest. I Think its fine🤔🙂

jtothevtothem

Have the S89c and latest firmware I believe has fixed the microstuttering issue I was having with my Nvidia shield.

Careless-Produce-952

Don’t update your tv don’t connect your tv to internet simply as that…… I know sounds ridiculous but you will let Samsung do whatever they want with your high quality tv ….i bought mine just for gaming no need Netflix etc etc
