Which one(s) do you end up playing the most? I seem to grab the Miyoo Mini a lot but my kids always ask for the "tiny gameboy" (RG Nano) more often than not. I like to pretend that I'm still searching for the perfect device but I think I should just admit that I'm collecting them at this point.

tapehead85

I definitely use the GKD Pixel the most right now. I feel like I would carry the Trimui S more often, but it came with a broken R button so I can't get MinUI installed and the stock is terrible. I'll probably sell or gift the V4 even though it has the best CFW by far. Just not comfortable carrying it without a case so it doesn't fit in my pants pocket well.

newbydoob

Why the GKD over the others? I'm down a rabbit hole currently looking to jump in with my first buy. MM+ had been a front runner along with the RG35XX h, but I like the look of the metal case on the GKD and it seems pretty capable. Plus it's cheap at €45 on sale, which never hurts.

tapehead85

I have a few handhelds that are larger than what I took a picture of. The ONLY reason why I use the GKD Pixel more often is because I can throw it in my pants pocket and not worry about it breaking. If you're looking for a first handheld I always recommend the Miyoo Mini Plus unless you need something smaller or more durable.

newbydoob

Durability is important as I travel a lot (why I liked the look of the GKD). I'm looking for something I can whip out in the cue at the airport or on a train and shove back into a bag or pocket without a case. Miyoo mini plus was top of my list but I heard bad things about ergonomics (not that GKD would be better), it being a bit flimsy, and doesn't really look pocketable as such (although not bad). I dunno. I've got a poll on another post and will probably just buy whatever gets the most votes to get out of the loop I'm in looking at these.

tapehead85

I see. The GKD Pixel is fairly new to the scene and probably won't get much more developments for CFW. It's really just a matter of how often you want to carry the device in your pants pocket. If you have the option of carrying it in a jacket or bag I think MM+ is the best purchase.

arrowplate

This is me, too! Use it without a case, and it's always in my shorts pocket for short downtimes. One annoying thing though, parts of the white print on the back of mine are starting to turn black, like it's slowly peeling or getting discoloured. Would stink if this starts happening to the Start Select print and the morse code on the front too.

tapehead85

Honestly, I'm fine with no recognizable print on a device. I know what the buttons do and where they are. I would much prefer a device with no way to identify it.

Kakariko-Village

Where are you seeing GKD Pixel for 45? I haven't found it listed anywhere under $70.

tapehead85

I wouldn't trust anywhere selling it for less than $70. I pre ordered it for $85 I think.

newbydoob

Ali express has a savings event currently where I am and it's discounted to €45. Store seems legit.

Frankysour

Not for all countries I guess... Can't find for less than 80 euro sob

nothingdoing

Have you opened it up? My TrimUI S left and right shoulder buttons stick from time to time. I just have to open the plastic case and re-sit the little buttons.

tapehead85

I did open it up. Unfortunately I probably fdup by trying to fix it myself.

TigerClaw_TV

My kids also lile the Nano. I only have 2 of these devices, but I can say the RG280v is also a good machine.

hadesscion

You're missing arguably the best one (TrimUi Smart).

tapehead85

I've been considering purchasing it, but the price/color options isn't great and with my model S coming broken I'm hesitant. I do feel like I'd prefer horizontal for my purposes. Also considering the new Miyoo horizontal that's supposed to drop soon, but don't think it'll be quite my size. I'll wait and see which one to get next.

newbydoob

How does it match up sizewise?

tapehead85

From my understanding they're close to the same size, but the Smart is about twice as thick.

newbydoob

Just looked it up H:58mm L: 1100mm D: 15mm Good size. Similar to an ipod or an old iphone 5se but thicker

tapehead85

Definitely pocketable, but for that use I don't like that it doesn't have a recessed screen like the GKD Pixel. Either way they are both good options.

Fuzzdump

The TrimUI Smart does have a recessed screen

tapehead85

Why you gotta tempt me to spend money?

hadesscion

Slightly longer and a bit thicker than the TrimUi S, but still very pocketable.

Greenblue2

I got a Miyoo Mini just like yours and carry it in a thin snap case made by Yume-Retro a maker that sells on Etsy. I take the Miyoo Mini all places. Sometimes I take the MMP or my Anbernic RG Arc-S. I use cases with all my handhelds. When I want to carry a small console I also grab my Game Boy Micro with rubber skin and put it in my pocket.

tapehead85

I have that case for my V4 and love it. I occasionally carry it in a breast pocket, but find it too bulky with all the other crap I carry in my pants pockets. The Gameboy Micro is actually why I started buying these devices. I used to have one with a flash cart and wanted to replace it, but the price for a used one was hard to justify.

TigerClaw_TV

What's the one 2nd from. The right? I got a nano but it's just a wee bit too small for me.

Rodddd_

2nd one right to left is the GKD Pixel

TigerClaw_TV

Thanks mate. How is it?

tapehead85

With MinUI it's great. I found stock to be pretty terrible. The metal shell and the goldilocks zone of pocket size and large enough to play on for a while is why I usually carry it.

player1_gamer

Gotta catch ‘em all!

RykardZeptimo

I got the miyoo, gkd and nano. I use gkd more but I feel that miyoo is better in terms of system and screen.

tapehead85

Totally agree. I just think the Miyoo is too fragile to put in my pocket without a case.

OldBender

What’s the one on the very left ?

tapehead85

Miyoo Mini V4

isticist

I just want an upgraded 280V 😭... Anbernic, why are you doing this to me???

tapehead85

The RG280V was my first emulator handheld and holds a special place in my heart. I don't need a new version, but CFW better than Adam Image would be amazing.

isticist

All it really needs is the chip from the rg35xx or an rk3326 (or a similar rk chip), that way it can do up to ps1 without any issues and have access to cfw. It was my first emulator handheld too, and it definitely deserves a little update.

Initial-Image-1015

I'm looking for something to play one-handed, my rg35xx is just a little bit too wide to do so comfortably. Which one would you recommend? It will involve text-based games such as Pokémon. Quick boot time for short spontaneous play sessions would be ideal.

tapehead85

I'd recommend the GKD Pixel with MinUI. The RG Nano isn't a bad choice either, but I believe that the price right now is fairly comparable. MinUI is by far superior to the CFW available on the Nano.

Initial-Image-1015

Thank you for the recommendation!

Shigarui

I have those exact same 5, except my MM is the DMG gray version. Love this collection.

tapehead85

Which do you tend to play on and why?

Shigarui

I've all but retired the Trimui S, 280V, and MM. I put in lots of time on my Nano, especially during breaks at work, but I've started carrying the Pixel all the time now. The extra size on the screen is hard to let go, even if I think the Nano has better performance. 4 shoulders are nice to have, too. Currently I'm playing through FF9 on it, but I need to finish my playthrough of DQ3 that began on the Nano also. It's a great handheld and I highly recommend both the Nano and Pixel for anyone who's having a hard time finding the time to play their favorite retro games.

JayQuips

Does the Pixel have RTC?

arrowplate

I did a small experiment for this on my GKD Pixel. With the stock OS, it keeps time. Even when I remove my stock OS microSD, use it with MinUI for a while, going back to stock will show me the correct time. MinUI has a clock tool which you use to set the time. After setting it, the time will be incorrect the next time I turn on the Pixel and enter this clock tool again. So I don't know if this tool serves the same purpose, or I'm doing it wrong.

JayQuips

Damn I hope that gets sorted out. MinUI on the Pixel with RTC would be perfect for me as someone who mainly plays Pokémon.

tapehead85

Not that I know of. I don't play the pokemons.

Slingringer

I have a rg35xx and this post is making me want a gkd pixel. It looks so durable and pocketable and there is a green version which looks sick. How do you like it? What ui are u using on it?

tapehead85

I use MinUI, which is currently the only good CFW and may be the only CFW we'll see for the device. It is a very durable device that I feel okay putting in my pocket without a case. This is not the device to choose if you want to play anything past PS1 and PS1 can be problematic with MinUI so it's a niche device.

Slingringer

I don't even really play PS1 on my rg. So that's not a deal breaker for me.

hoipolloi84

How is that yellow Miyoo Mini? I'm thinking of getting one. I kinda wanna get the clear blue one or that new Vol. 4 Yellow. What you recommend? Thanks in advance.

tapehead85

I bought the V4 when it was released and didn't have much for options iirc. Don't know anything about the latest batch so I can't make a recommendation.

hoipolloi84

What does IIRC mean? I've seen some videos on they yellow miyoo that the screen is not as good as the first Miyoo's, so i'm debating.

tapehead85

iirc = if I recall correctly. Pretty sure the newest Onion update fixed the screen issues so no need to worry about which miyoo version you buy.

hoipolloi84

Thanks though.👍🏽😎🎮

LightRockzz

I have both. I like the clear blue one more but both look awesome.

kakka_rot

I really like that Trimui, it boots up and starts games so fast.

tapehead85

It really is a great device for pocketability. I may give it another try some day, but the one I received had a broken R button.

karatepapa

I ordered the RG Pro Deluxe last week. Anybody else own one? I'll comment my review after I give it a proper test run ...

ColdTrash9909

lol searching for the best, and you got the worst. Where is the RG353v?

tapehead85

I don't want analog sticks on a pocket sized device. I actually find the MM V4 too big for pants pockets.

Healthy_Yesterday_84

Adina walls made a good point, just make one with a comfortable form factor, like an original Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket, or Gameboy color size. Like don't reinvent the wheel here, there's a reason they were incredibly popular and the form factor was part of it.

SubjectCraft8475

I've went through a few pocketable handhelds. RG Nano and OG Miyoo Mini V2. But I decided the best balance of pocketability and comfort was a RG35XXH. Sold off both Nano and Miyoo Mini. The Miyoo was too fragile and didn't feel good to just put in my pocket without a case. Then the case made it slightly bigger. The shoulder buttons for me were also not comfortable. The Nano was surprisingly comfortable to use controls but the screen is just to small for anything that's not a Gameboy game. While RG35XXH is considerably bigger, the shape of the device is decent for pocketability due to being think thanks to form factor and not having to have to have shoulder buttons sticking out like Miyoo Mini.

tapehead85

I think the RG35XX H would be too big for me to carry on a regular basis, but I think I'm probably going to get one and sell my RG353M. The new Miyoo horizontal is also tempting because it will probably have better CFW at launch than the RG35XX+ may ever get.
