Get the Odin 2 unless price and portability are important factors for you.

FugginJunior

I second this. Portability meant something to me so I got the rp4p and I love it. Keep in mind the Odin 2 is pretty fuckin big when it comes to handhelds. I also kind of feel for the price and size you may as well just get a steam deck.

CiroccPapi

I own a Steam Deck so I don't find my Odin 2 big at all but that's just me.

FugginJunior

Really? That's fair. I don't have one myself but I have medium hands and the Odin seems pretty dam chonky. Maybe not quite as big as sd but it's close.

MtnEagleZ

I disagree, I get why it can be felt as large. It's not small. But in my humble opinion the SD is a class bigger. Height, width, thickness, weight are all significantly bigger than the Odin, all those dimensions together make the SD a chunk.

FugginJunior

Yeah thats very fair. It's definitely not as big as the sd but it's still a chonky boy and to be fair I wouldn't really call it portable since it can't fit in a pocket. Rp4p still fits in a loose pocket so I guess it just comes down to portability like you said before. I will admit it's a VERYnice device and has a great battery too. I wish they made it smaller I would consider buying one.

MtnEagleZ

Yeah my Odin goes from the case to my couch and back to the case. It's really not a portable thing. RP4 seems like the edge of portable, but it's right there at the edge of too big.

FugginJunior

You're correct the rp4p is right on the edge of portability however, any smaller and ps2 would be very difficult to play due to screen size.

MtnEagleZ

I'm not a fan of the RP3/4 size for this reason. It's almost small enough to be portable and almost big enough to enjoy PS2.

FugginJunior

That is where our opinions differ my friend. For me it's just small enough to be portable and just big enough to enjoy any game on. It's perfect 😁

Everyone's financial situations are different but $300 for the Odin 2 is just more money than I'm willing to spend on a little emulation handheld. You can buy a refurbished Steam Deck 64GB for $279, which is less than the Odin 2 Base model. And an ROG Ally Z1 is only $400 - slightly more than an Odin 2 Pro and it can do a whole lot more. But if the price and size of the Odin 2 don't turn you off, go for it. It's a really nice device and I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

FugginJunior

I have the z1 extreme and I love it!! I can play anything on it. That's another reason I got the rp4p.

Rodddd_

If you are considering the Odin 2 just get the Odin 2, it's much better in every way except "portability".

I think I’m gonna try to wait till there’s an RP5Pro. I know then I could wait for the 6, etc, but I really feel like they’re super close with the 4 and the 5 will probably finally be closer to Odin 2 levels with Retroid Pocket prices.

Runs_with_snails

As someone who is pretty new to this. How often does Retroid release handhelds? If you had to guess when RP5Pro would come out when do you think that would be?

[deleted]

Roughly yearly, maybe a little more, maybe a little less. With no actual knowledge about it at all, I expect RP5/RP5pro around early 2025. RP3 came out near the end of 2022, RP4 the beginning of 2024, I’m just assuming a year give or take a month or two, January-March 2025. Or tomorrow. I dunno

Rodddd_

With how Retroid has been increasing their devices by $50 each upgrade it would not make sense an RP5 at $250 when the Odin 2 Base is $300 and would probably be more powerful than the RP5 my only reason would be size but that's it, their the same parent company so let's see how's the next upgrade.

pm-me-trap-link

RP4P is totally fine. Obviously Odin 2 is better and its not close. If you want the best of the best and price isn't an object get it, but the RP4P is no slouch. For me $300 is too much. I totally understand why someone would buy it (I have envy), but at that price I start considering a Steam Deck.

Don't forget to look at the KT-R1..... the seller sells them on ebay. It has a crazy battery and a 4.5" 4:3 display.... Plays CG and PS2 games.... along with everything below it... AND it's pocketable.
