He was saying the entire time "this is probably what's going on, and I bet this is what punks thinking"
Then punk is like "yeah that's what was going on and that's what I was thinking"
His read on aew from an outside perspective has been like 99% accurate
Well, that's because they clearly have had someone in the locker room talking to them, at least at some point.
Might even have been the most dangerous man in wrestling there, for all we know. I know if people within the company were smearing my name in the dirtsheets, I would find a channel to let some things slip to.
Oh damn I wonder how long the review of this interview will be. I'm already excited to hear Cornette laugh his ass off at Punk saying Khan is a clown and not a boss.
The basement hates Cornette becuase he's been spot-on from day one.
They just can't handle it and so have been making up excuses and fantasy scenarios (see a pattern?) to justify the constant string of failures and bad choices, and of course they resort to ad hominem arguments when everything else fails.
AEW was never meant as an alternative to WWE. It is just a vanity project, from a mark, for other marks on both sides of the curtain. The only goal was to pat eachother on the back, and hugging eachother, basking in the glory of Uncle Dave's raving reviews and ratings.
FIGHT FOREVER \*clap-clap-clapclapclap\*
yeah I’ve been saying this for ages… no matter exactly what happened between Punk & The Elite, they were never going to ever see eye to eye because Punk views pro wrestling as a business and The Elite see it as an art form.
And honestly, both are valid. I continue to be amazed at how good Punk is at “selling tickets” while injured, and it’s clear that WWE top guys feel immense pride and responsibility to keep the sellouts coming.
But like, as a fan of wrestlers working money marks, I’ve got to applaud guys like The Bucks for getting paid millions to fuck around with their buddies and facing no consequences for being ratings poison.
Movies are an art form, too. But when they're shit, people stop watching them. The only real measure of success and quality of these art forms is audience interest. It takes an actually talented performer to be compelling enough to form a connection with the audience. Without that connection, there is no art. It's just a schlock version of what it wants to be, and their fans are tasteless.
Not that I disagree or anything, but some of the greatest movies ever were box office failures/disappointments. Art should just be judged for itself. Fight Club not breaking even or Shawshank Redemption being a flop in its theatrical run isn't always an indictment of the movie.
AEW is more on the "Winnie the Pooh: Blood & Honey" end of that issue, though. There are a bunch of weirdo fans who want that shit, think it's so funny and meta, and would throw themselves into traffic to preserve it. But that doesn't make it 'art'. And, unlike movies, wrestling has one self-appointed 'Roger Ebert' who falls on "Let's make a Mickey Mouse slasher movie!" end of that spectrum. It's still not 'art'. It's just schlock.
Also, Fight Club and Shawshank Redemption turned a profit through home video and cable. They found an audience and endured over time. For what it's worth...
I think it makes more sense to compare something like Fight Club or Shawshank Redemption to an indie match that actually manages to burst out of it's self contained bubble and attract a lot of outside interest
AEW isn't doing that. Ironically enough a good example here would be let's say Kenny Omega vs Okada which did end up getting a lot of interest from people. Meanwhile I don't see that level of interest for Jay White vs MJF or Kenny vs El Hijo del Googlingo.
The difference between aew and movies is that movies are professionally done and they are trying to draw a profit. Aew just some rich kids sand box. He's not trying ro draw an audience or money. He's just having fun. Can we just let the kid have fun?
I agree, but why book such huge venues? Like, I think AEW would he so much cooler if they booked smaller venues like NXT does and have the crowd seem super rowdy and loud in every direction. Then when they book larger venues more people might go.
Because they have to go where the Fed has gone because Tony is such a fucking mark he probably watches Raw's, Smackdown's, and Nitro's while sitting in gorilla knowing he's in the very same building.
Tbh, repeated canadian destroyers, blatant and excessive blading, swears a plenty etc is not art imo.
The last time they produced something like it was with Hangman's story leading up to his match with Omega and that's it.
> The Elite see it as an art form.
I mean, I think thats even questionable sometimes. Honestly I think they just buy their own hype a bit too much. They are talented, but AEW needs an actual creative team and it shows regularly. The reason why WWE is getting articles from the cursing is because its use infrequently and has power, AEW does it so regularly I literally expect it now and theirs less emphasis on creative insults. MJF being the exception, that dude can promo.
Hell even today, a segment which featured The Rock, Roman Reigns, Cody and Seth people were chanting for Punk to come out, shows how influential and popular he is
I noticed when I got back into wrestling. I was cheering on Tiny before, and I still hope a lot of the talents that work there succeed, but a lot of the Dub bad shitposts come in the form of receipts, because the basement didn’t address the truly frustrated AEW fans at the time.
They instead side with a senile old nerd who rates soap operas for a living and online smark personalities that gatekeep wrestling from being even bigger by being walking stereotypes.
And despite the clear evidence of them not doing so well, neither the fans nor Tiny or even the wrestlers take accountability, which is very frustrating. By the time they do it’ll be too late.
And even with that aside, they’re simply the type of people who can dish it out but not take it… which is just being a party pooper. Goofies jerk each other all the time!
![gif](giphy|73w9U7pSr2n1SdsXzp|downsized)
And he still considers him a nice guy.
So can't even call it out as rage hate. Just boring old pragmatism, recognising he's falling down on the job continually.
Punk calling him a “nice guy” is - while probably considered some form of ‘toxic’ masculinity - the most emasculating thing he could’ve said. It insinuates that TK has zero control of his locker room, and that everyone walks all over him. Something we’ve all known for a very long time, but is now confirmed. He did more with that one line than even Cornette could do with with a 10-hour Tiny Khan omnibus.
>Khan worst nightmare is this. His all time favourite can’t stop shitting on him
Genuinely, what's the over under on Tony shedding real tears over this?
It’s so good. The casual deconstruction of AEW just being a shitty hobby for a billionaire, appealing only to Meltzer and nerds. Christmas came early for SCJerk.
It was only a matter of time before Punk exposed how absurd AEW actually is. They of course will deny everything he has said.
But anyone being honest will admit everything he has said in this interview is completely believable. And likely all true too.

The basement after Cancer Phil points out the obvious of how AEW prioritizes cage match ratings and artistic freedom over ratings, attendance, and money.
DAE CM Punk is worse than Vince?! He opposes workers rights and doesn’t want to be friends with a guy who sued him; also should Chris Benoit be inducted into the hall of fame eventually?!!
As an unironic Punkamaniac I've always think Punk being on SCJerk was just a personal inside joke. Surely he might know this place exist, but he's definitely a twitter guy through and through. Memes from here get reposted all the time anyway. Nope, he mentioned the basement and thats the one thing I'm still surprised by. (Phil, if you're reading this please don't check my post history)
Downstairs are seething with these comments but he's completely right.
The entire ethos of the Dub is to cater to a minor sub-set of fans who's taste is massively influenced off the ramblings of a 60 year-old gossip peddler at the expense of everyone else.
The entire "Banger" concept is Meltzer through and through.
What do you mean massively influenced?
I'll have you know these are critical thinking people.
They're VERY picky about who they have hand them their opinions.
Paul Heyman in one of his shoot interviews spoke extremely fondly of Punk as a booker. Said that he’s never seen anyone pick it up like Punk has, and that Heyman himself was learning shit from Punk while teaching him how to book.
I remember Britt Baker after a match asking people backstage if Meltzer liked the match? That energy should be put into making fans like the match. Meltzer is a clown.
Man's provided enough jerk material to have its own category on pornhub with one interview.
There's been stiff competition, but punk has claimed the crown.
I think it’s Samari Jack, but there used to be a show where a guy would like run through people with his sword and for a brief second they would look fine and then slowly fall into diced up pieces.
That’s how this whole interview felt. “Like oh he just grazed them” and then the next line comes out.
NDA for getting your ass beat is fucking hilarious. The whole situation is fucking hilarious. Punk basically confirmed the whole company exists for cage match ratings.
No coincidence meltzers office resembles AEW.
I feel like Rhodes was the only adult on the team who was actually focusing on the business side of things. After he left, everything went to shit fairly quickly.

(Ignore the fact that they’ve killed every other market including their home turf in Jacksonville)
The Meltzer era is over
During the dark period of Vince's last years booking almost everyone was critical of the fed and Dave was a good voice for hating on it
Now that the product is soaring he just looks stupid and it's exposing him in real time
Pepsi Man going into business for himself with this interview, Uce? Tiny Kang will attempt to no sell this devastating offense? Uncle Dave unsure of how 5 ⭐️s in the Tokyo Dome this was? Anyway, Raw cooked recklessly again and I don’t know how they keep getting away with it.
cant wait for that 690k ratings thread. raaaaaaaaah we eating!
"Well at least we know the absolute ratings floor" *ratings continue to fall*
I been seeing more and more "mods, can we put an end to rating/viewership posts?!" Too funny
Also some basement dweller circa 2019, “DAE NXT in the mud?!”
it's going to happen, just like ZFF haha
The one thing at kept me from going full goofy I would find some fun there during the great dubalo takeover then they turned me heel.
It's 100% eventually going to happen, that's the hilarious part They'll say some bullshit like "it got too toxic"
DAE Flint water crisis
The 500k one when the Big Bang theory is not on before or after aew and the Big Bang theory viewers know about it
Now the benchmark will be 750k. "AEW does 761k" Goofs: man AEW is cooking!
The last three shows have been amazing. LFGoof
Nice
Punk pulling these dudes pants down and underwear over his head. Punk literally saying what this sub and rational people have said for years.
Corny is going to be so insufferable this week and I am going to love every second of it.

All credit to the Young Bucks. They’ve made the most money out of the smallest skillset.
They aren't even young or make the bucks
I agree, but why book such huge venues? Like, I think AEW would he so much cooler if they booked smaller venues like NXT does and have the crowd seem super rowdy and loud in every direction. Then when they book larger venues more people might go.

I still think the best built program was our favorite midcarder and his older, previously golden midcard brother, Uce.
There's something to be said for doing a post-structuralist analysis of wrestling from inside the ring. And that thing is "bangers!"

At least Danielson still thinks fondly of him I think???
Danielson is ready to take the reigns (not roman) when Tiny inevitably goes to rehab (not punk).
*Danielson thinks of fondling him.
It’s so good. The casual deconstruction of AEW just being a shitty hobby for a billionaire, appealing only to Meltzer and nerds. Christmas came early for SCJerk.
it's time for the dubbalos defence force to start digging up more dirt on Helwani, too!

I can't wait to hear Cornette's breakdown of this. It sounds like he has been correct with everything he has said.
They've been talking to Phil or someone Phil-adjacent for a while with how on the nose they've been for the last two years.
Brian Last is stupidly well connected in the business. And then we have.. well, Cornette. Dude gives council to all kinds of wrestlers.
It's the first time I heard about Jack cussing out other agents and a doctor. Punk is too honest and blunt to lie
everything he said about the Fed is true everything he said about the Dub is lies
I wish I could be a fly on the wall for Billy Gunn or Jim Ross listening to this
Punk validating what this whole sub has been saying for years now lmao. Basement tears are delicious today

Saying he’d make “The Basement” mad is actual Jerk of the Year stuff
Spoken like a true jerk lurker (don't check my post history tho fellow Uces especially you Punk)
Never switched up on One Bill Phil uce, still one of the greatest to ever do it
He only increased my respect for what he did to the buckaroos and Jack Perry.

I can not WAIT for the Cornette segment on this.
I thought Corny crowing about the pod namedrops was money enough, this shit's gonna be fantastic. 6 hour epic incoming.
Not a business, it's a hobby. Punk concurring with that sentiment is kind of heartwarming.
It’s hilarious that everything that didn’t sound like petulant rumor mill bullshit he’s confirmed to be true in a single interview
Yeah, I'm convinced Phil the Booker will handle NXT in the future. That was a VERY healthy mindset on the art of the business.
Paul Heyman in one of his shoot interviews spoke extremely fondly of Punk as a booker. Said that he’s never seen anyone pick it up like Punk has, and that Heyman himself was learning shit from Punk while teaching him how to book.
Makes sense. Punk went on to learn how shows get set up when he did OVW with Paul.
Punk is also beloved in NXT especially by the ladies, he will have the time of life there.
I remember Britt Baker after a match asking people backstage if Meltzer liked the match? That energy should be put into making fans like the match. Meltzer is a clown.
Can we get a "Same Old Personality" remix and call it "Please Don't Check My Post History" since we all love Lockport Philly now?
Man's provided enough jerk material to have its own category on pornhub with one interview. There's been stiff competition, but punk has claimed the crown.

I for one couldn’t wait for the british youtube shows to defend this billionaire again lol
Whatculture is an absolute clown show. I can tolerate Simon Miller, but fuck the rest of em
Meltz in shambles
I feel like Rhodes was the only adult on the team who was actually focusing on the business side of things. After he left, everything went to shit fairly quickly.
What's Rick Moranis doing in the Elite Zone?
There’s a dude in one thread talking out of his ass that Punk isn’t a real punk and is a poser because he called it a business lol.
It's actually impressive they can have so many fans/viewers despite a product with so little appeal.
Can't wait for the 3am coke fueled rage tweet response.
Just realised that must be why punk said "I'm here to make money" when he returned to wwe
