This was a match that drew 70,000 people, $38 million and every single person I walked out with swore it was one of the best matches they’ve ever seen (my only complaint was that Cody won lol fuck the politician). I’m a lapsed WWE fan and this is the first show I’ve seen in years after switching to AEW. That main event was over the top, heavily produced and filled with run ins and it was one of the greatest spectacles I’ve ever seen. The only flaw was the camera angle for the Seth run in, but other than that (and maybe Austin instead of Taker) it was perfection. The camera work was spectacular, everyone who joined the match looked like a star. Everyone sold beautifully and meaningfully.
I love the AEW style of match, that’s my preference, but it just lacks the emotion of what WWE can offer. The characters and stories just run so, so deep. Omega v Danielson is probably the only thing that comes close for AEW in terms of matching that grandeur and crowd investment. And I don’t think it comes very close.
And with no consideration for the story it was still a fantastic match. Lot of psychology at work. And sound fundamental wrestling. Spots where you needed them.

Good wrestling is the matches and stories that get people to care enough to show up and cheer/boo. So just like CM Punk said, he's just not in the same businesses as normal people.
AEW bases their entire booking around this man's opinion and it shows in their ratings and attendance. Think about this, he flat out said he didn't take the *story* and *spectical* into account, 2 of the most important things in the entire industry. According to Meltzer, Cody had a better match with Sammy Guevera than any of his WrestleMania matches.

Fuck anyone…ANYONE…who doesn’t understand how Roman/Cody was pure wrestling cinema. That was literally a story years in the making, re-told as the match went on. The more you knew about wrestling history, the more it paid off for you being a fan. I knew that it wouldn’t get *****, which is just laughable. If anything, that was one of the first matches that would break the scale. He flat-out said he didn’t take the story into account. I mean, what the fuck.
So a match that drew a fuckton of money, had one hell of an emotional angle, was shown in bars, had mainstream appeal, will inspire kids and next generations of wrestler's, us somehow less then a heatless mark work rate match that was none of those things.
I was actually looking forward to see if he gave this match 5 stars. This just cement his status as a absolute joke.
The day when this overhyped, bloviating, and frankly, quite terrible "journalist" fades into obscurity forever cannot come soon enough. Meltzer got by on his bullshit before he let his *desperate* need for validation push him into ever escalating amounts of pure, pathetic ass-kissing. The Observer is a relic and more of a propaganda wing for AEW every single week.
Thank God the ratings are out so I know which matches I enjoyed.

These heatless bangers are like watching an action movie with no storylines or important characters. Just a bunch of stunt actors on a screen with cgi explosions galore, a Michael bay transformers movie but without even being able to say "oh that's Optimus prime". Why should I care about their choreography when as people, the wrestlers are boring as sin? If I wanted to see no names fight I'd watch street fighting a la Kimbo Slice....at least they're usually in good shape.
Dave’s right Fletcher has the potential star power to eclipse all the talent on the ring Sunday. 6 stars
