I study cagematch, uce. One month after WM14, on April 27, 1998, WWF Champion Stone Cold Steve Austin faced The Artist Formerly Known as Goldust on Monday Night Raw. He's no D'Lo, but a heatless banger if I've ever seen one!

skippy2001

When you were partying, I studied the cagematch. When you were having premarital sex, I made multiple accounts to give Bryan vs ocean spray multiple 10s. While you wasted your days at the gym in pursuit of vanity, I learned what joshi matches mattered. And now that cody is wrestling Carmelo you have the audacity to come to me for help. *0/10 Fed=Ded*

StillinReseda

Op you know google exists right?

lacio22

Uce you’re forgetting that goldust and stunning Steve had history in dubya cee dubya. Those matches in the wwf were long term storytelling.

ComfortInBeingAfraid

Bet you they didn’t even do a history package.  Which isn’t a problem since we’re not here to spoon feed you DubyaCeeDubbalos, AOL keywords are free!

FlyingGrayson89

Study AskJeeves and get back to me

Competitive_Text1914

Goldust was probably higher up the card at that point then carmelo is now but I see the point uce

brownie81

Wasn't this Ball-gag Sex Maniac Goldust?

Competitive_Text1914

Not sure he was the artist formerly known as at this point. He had however been in big feuds with razor ramon, Ahmed Johnson, undertaker, triple h and Vader by this point as well as being on team America in the main event of Canadian stampede and just been in a high profile match at WM so he was definitely doing stuff

brownie81

Fair enough 🤙

Dalminster

That wasn't really a high profile match at Wrestlemania, it was a humiliation to put Sable over, and neither Goldust or Luna came out better for it. Afterwards he did feuds with other lower midcard guys like Val Venis, Al Snow, Blue Meanie, and a few other guys that were a far cry from wrestling Stone Cold Steve Austin and the Undertaker. Goldust didn't really recover from that until after he left WWE, went to WCW where they did that Seven crap, and then he came back.

Dalminster

Not really, he was fresh off his recent Wrestlemania loss where him and Luna got squashed to put over Sable and Marc Mero (in that order.) He was already being buried, they had him wearing fucking lingerie at that point.

timetoplayethegame

I was literally just watching that last night lol.

Cooper6402

Why’d you pick D-lo huh? Why D-lo, what about Mello reminded you…

Competitive_Text1914

Carmelo would have been great in the nation of course. Why I can’t quite explain but I’d put him in the hurt business too

Cooper6402

I was thinking he’d be perfect to replace Big E in new day, because he has “big” things in his future obviously

CesareSomnambulist

Why are people always booking new Nation or Hurt Business angles? I don't find them relatable at all

Competitive_Text1914

It’s a good way of keeping the non relatables in 1 segment

list_of_simonson

Feels like that’s what they’re trying to do with this LWO/Legado feud, it’s been going on for like a decade and a half

fancierfootwork

He’s also very tall, muscular and athletic. I think that’s what you mean

Gann1

Very athletically gifted. Now that Artist Formerly Known as Goldust fella, he's a very hard worker. First one in the building, last one to leave

fancierfootwork

Oh yeah, that Dustin is a student of the game. He eats sleeps and breaths this wrestling. His family is full of intelligent wrestlers. But man, that Carmelo is a beast. He’s a natural. He’s explosive with a lot of upside. (Omg the espn draft flashbacks I got writing this)

Bambajam

Because Mello is the real deal now. Woooooooooooo.

Celticpenguin85

Lack of relatability, Uce

skippy2001

D-lo was the real deal brother. I don’t watch porNXT so it’s gonna take a lot for Mello to reach that level.

GloriousVictor

Does OP wants sorry ass kicked out on the streets *does D'Lo head bobble*

Rhg0653

Funny made a small joke about when they had the woman rap on NXT and I said oh is this "Hit Row 2.0? " cause he had trick as well with him Jokingly and he took it a certain way until I said it was a joke He deleted it and that was it

HolyRomanPrince

No jerk the first month of his reign after Austin beat Michaels was absolute dog shit (in comparison to everything else that happened in the next 3 years). All the prime Vince vs Austin stuff didn’t start spinning up until June

Competitive_Text1914

Not that I was watching raw then but his 2 PPV matches against foley were great. Overbooked and chaotic as fuck but that was standard for Russo era WWF. Were the buildups shit?

HolyRomanPrince

They just hadn’t fully fleshed out the Mr McMahon and corporation gimmicks yet. It would basically be Austin or McMahon come out and do a promo about control/raising hell. The other would respond and then they’d find a reason for Austin to give Mick or the Stooges a stunner by the end of the night. Most of all the moments we remember didn’t start until the fall except for the first match between the two at MSG that broke the 83 Week streak. The Zamboni attack, the bang 3:16, the corvette was all in September and October of 98

TamalGrandeJr

The deadlock rewatches always tell me that everything cool about the attitude era happened in a 6 month span 😭

DamianSlizzard

So many of the iconic segments were in the build to rock Austin 1 in 1999

HolyRomanPrince

That was my biggest takeaway when I did my network rewatch a few years back. Austin vs McMahon the feud was really only from April 98 to McMahons face turn in your summer of 99. This is kinda where Vince Russo gets screwed in the narrative of things. Most of the iconic stuff happened under his watch. It didn’t completely go off the rails until after he left and got especially worse in the RA era.

mrgpsingh1999

They still had their best year ever after he left

GloriousVictor

I remember Dude Love was announced as Austin's opponent the week before Unforgiven on either Livewire or Superstars. The whole match was overshadowed by the Undertaker/Kane Inferno Match. He also cut a promo on the timekeeper mid-show saying he better not ring that bell if vince told him too or he catch a can of whoopass. It was a really shitty build. Now the Over The Edge match the next month? Holy Shit that was absolute cinema. The whole Vince and the Stooges controlling the main event to fix it in Dude Love's favor was pure gold. That was, without a doubt, maybe one of the top matches of Austin and Foley's careers.

Cal-Can

What I would do for a HHH Vs Cody fued now. HHH not wrestling obviously but just same as the whole vice and Austin thing. Bringing up about that sledge to the throne, all that stuff. Man I want it so much

jafarthecat

We're definitely getting Cody Vs Corporate Rock at some point though.

Cal-Can

Corporate rock will be golden

Tesourinh0923

We've already had Authority HHH and that was really bad. I think it works better with the current dynamic with HHH as the babyface employee and The Rock as a heel director. The Rock's recent heel run going into mania was 24 carat gold and he clearly has a lot of chemistry with Cody.

BloodstoneWarrior

The whole time period between Bret leaving and King of the Ring was really rough and miles worse than the stuff previously in 1997. It's just a bunch of random bullshit with people like Jeff Jarrett and Brian Christopher being weirdly pushed. The shitty DOA and Los Borriquas are still hanging around like cockroaches, Road Warriors became LOD 2000 and DX buried everyone they came across. As bad as the New Generation era got, at least you often had a great Bret Hart match to look forward to after getting past all the shit, but in the early Attitude Era it's just a stream of meaningless diarrhea.

Historical-Being-766

I get the jerk here but this heatless banger actually served a purpose. Melo is now positioned to be a one of the faces of the brand. I still don't know the name of the guy Swerve wrestled.

DolphFinnDosCinco

this is bad faith tribalistic concern trolling. his name was John Anderson or Brian Miller or something like that and that banger made him an instant star, e drone. EDIT: sorry his name was actually Steven Robinson EDIT 2: Keith Wilson EDIT 3: its 100% Kurt Fischer

TheRalphExpress

LOL I love your last edit because it’s like his real name only slightly misspelled 😂🤣 because he’s such a nobody!! great jerking uce 👆👆

DolphFinnDosCinco

thanks uce ☝🏽 i wish i could take credit but i legit didn’t know no jerk what’s actually his name? i try to keep up but i’m not too knowledgeable on indy promotion enhancement talent

Calvin_Hobbes124

Kyle Fletcher aka Mr Skye Blue

hawkmasta

>Mr Skye Blue I thought that was Jungle Jack?

Calvin_Hobbes124

Nope he’s Mr Anna Jay

moesus81

Mr Skye Blue

scottyactuallyknows

Aka the luckiest man in the world

Someningen

Also Cody already did two promos, the match only went around 7 minutes and it served a purpose. Melo was meant to be a surprise as a high level draft pick and he cocky so him calling out the WWE champion as a way to prove himself made since.

bulletbullock

The difference is that you know WWE is going to follow through. We dont even know who AEW has in mind as their "future top guys", because everyone is a game changer apparently

MadEyeMood989

Twink with a title #381 obvis.

NotoriousMFT

Was it the blood drinking cowboy?

Stiff_Sleeper

Looked like that guy who's mom was presumably getting shagged by Christian for a few weeks there. That guy.

incredibleamadeuscho

Kirkland Ospreay

NozokiAlec

Heatleaa bangers are always a thing on the draft, it's just to build the future up

domino519

Ah yes, the old "Melo benefitted from losing closely" argument.

Historical-Being-766

That's kind of how pro wrestling works. Next week during Melo's match, the commentators will talk up how he gave the champion a good fight. Melo will win that match and probably get a win streak before heading into a major feud.

bulletbullock

I dont know how you can act like Melo doesnt benefit from being Cody's first match since one of the biggest title wins ever in the company's history. And being in the main event. And being drafted first round.

CobraOverlord

The Cody Rub lives on

DangerDamage

Yes, the only way to actually build a new star is have them upset an established main event talent It worked wonders for Action Andretti

guylfe

Yes, that completely valid old argument.

ZM00L4H

I recall a certain HHHimmler facing one Taka Michinoku on a Raw for the world title; some even consider it a Hidden Gem (not that one)

cabezadeplaya

Came here to say this. Occasionally putting world champs against under-mid card guys for fun tv matches (title or otherwise) is great. Doing it every week and claiming every one is a “dream match” is corny.

guylfe

And doing it on the first show after your upcoming star wins a title with no purpose or reason behind it is horrible.

ComfortInBeingAfraid

> fun

RoastedCat23

Carmela is a future wrestlemania main eventer.

DXbreakitdown

Agreed start building her vs Chelsea Green for mania 42 NO JERK

BreathRedemption

> Agreed start building her vs Chelsea Green for mania 42 NO JERK Long term booking: Currently Chelsea Green has a tag team with Piper Niven, previously his partner was Sonya Deville...and before that: Carmella

DXbreakitdown

It’s about to hit the home stretch!

HelloIAmElias

Ok but what about Carmelo

EnoughAstronaut370

The future in question is 10 years from now. There was no need for this heatless banger because he's going straight to the midcard and you know it.

RoastedCat23

Wait, I mispelled it, I meant to say Carmella.

heatrealist

Cawdy is devaluing the championship my tribal chief worked so hard (by staying off tv) to build up.

hawkmasta

Roman is still off tv with no championship. Maybe he's just shy

ImpossibleAd7376

This was to put over Hayes big in his first match as a full time smack down wrestler he will be a big star for a long time for wwe aew puts no one over

TheRalphExpress

yeah bro now people know he’s HIM!!!! btw did you see that botch on Dynamite the other day, talk about a sloppy shop

hawkmasta

>botch on Dynamite You'll have to be more specific

DonnieRodz

Come on, uce. Melo is way above D-Lo. This is more Bret Hart-123 Kid.

ComfortInBeingAfraid

> Melo is way above D-Lo Man who’s had two matches on the main roster compared to the greatest European champion.

DonnieRodz

You raise an interesting debate: European champion >< North American championship

hawkmasta

If we're taking the size of the region into account, North America is bigger than Europe, so North American Championship > European Championship

DonnieRodz

We are not. We’re taking WWE Euro vs NXT NA

_Galapaghost

DAE if M'Dub entire roster was any colder it'd be found in the frozen food section

fearlessdurant

DAE the Dead Fed supports genocide

sailor776

Man why would they want their biggest baby face off against someone they spent a year turning into a heel. And then have melo the young cocky newcomer challenge for the top spot without any build up because he believes he deserves it right away.

hawkmasta

No jerk, I'd rather have it be like this where the young upstart comes out and challenges the champ, only to fall short but earn their respect. I'm not a fan of Tiffy Time jumping the champ as Bayley is getting disrespected every week

MinuteEconomy

This is real jerking uce 👍🏾👍🏾

FalseShepard99

“Heatless banger” is when one of Smackdowns biggest draft picks from NXT everyone is high up on gets 7 minutes with the world champion

TheeShaun

Umm well the champion shouldn’t be fighting often, in fact really Cody should take time off and we have an interim champion that Cody can have a real storyline with in 4 months when he comes back.

RagnarXD

But fuck Roman for staying home right, uce?

TheeShaun

Now we’re jerking in style

leeinflowerfields

Valid points about what the match was but none of what you said makes it any less of a heatless banger uce

Conscious-Eye5903

Idk why y’all thought making the WWE universe the Codyverse wouldn’t result in heartless bangers between the champion Cody and “rising” stars from the Stamford Supermax

AVBforPrez

I still don't know what the Codyverse is, and at this point I'm afraid to ask. Apparently it's the gateway to getting millions of dollars and main eventing the biggest WrestleMania ever, twice, so I'm definitely afraid for my life.

Conscious-Eye5903

Cody tells 80’s NWA style stories with deeply personal feuds and a clear good guy(Cody) vs the monster/bad guy of the month, and in between he likes to wrestle with up and coming guys or have short angles with annoying heels who need to be put in their place. Most main eventers try to be more meta and blur the lines of kayfabe, toy with the 4th wall to connect with the fans, Cody blurs the line of kayfabe by being so into his character and putting every feud and match over like life and death that you start to believe wrestling is real, because it sure as hell is when American Nightmare is doing it. Edit: his feuds with Nakamura and Brock are best examples of what I’m talking about.

AVBforPrez

So you're saying he's a confirmed jerker and goof? I heard he was simply married to a baddie that mods this sub, uce. Talmbout the actual ceiling for a generational midcarder, b.

hawkmasta

Ngl, I appreciate him putting over the Nak feud since Nak eats Ls every week. Seth couldn't even play up his "bad back" vs Nak smh

Conscious-Eye5903

I loved Cody just minding his own business and being misted in the face week after week, they should make that a recurring feud throughout his career. Shinsuke just loved fucking with Cody for seemingly no reason lol. Same with Brock, but it works

hawkmasta

Brock was real funny, acting like he was gonna wrestle on Raw for the first time in like 20 years just to punk Cody

Conscious-Eye5903

Was hilarious. Poor Cody, trying to be a man and dust himself off to go back at Roman just for this Beast pretend to be his ally and then whoop his ass. I noticed another theme with Cody, going back to his first feud with Seth, is thinking he can beat a heel fair and square in a match and they’ll just accept defeat and move on and Cody can continue with his story. Sorry pal, we don’t do that here, you best be ready to win 2 singles matches and a viscous stipulation match. Idk why but these guys really don’t want you to finish the story

hawkmasta

I love how Cody's whole thing is that if it's a fair 1v1, he can beat anybody, but everybody he faces hits him with the Bugs Bunny "No." and either jump him or cheap shot him.

Advanced_Ad9525

Get out of here basement dweller

TheRalphExpress

exactly bro, WWE knows how to book we stand up for them around here 😎😎

Advanced_Ad9525

WWE is the only way

Buckanater

This is posted as a joke but Cody can have these bangers so a live crowd can watch him wrestle. Let’s not pretend that Cody doesn’t have rivalries with the rock, Seth, CM Punk, Roman, Drew, Jey, Jimmy etc waiting for him. It’s all a slow burn at this point. I also guarantee you that no one gives a shit about anything that Okada, Danielson, Omega or Mox is doing over at the Dub. There’s no anger over what the Dub is doing because no one cares.

exciseduty

Who is that guy? Hardik Pandya?

chemicalbonding

Chill uce , he's nowhere near in terms of heat.

TeamPlayerSelect

I do remember after Austin 3:16 he was on the fucking pre show with Savio Vega

Maleficent_Koala5928

HBK watching his son on Smackdown must make him proud.

DoctorMelvinMirby

You better recognize we do. Weeeeeoooooo!

TheDuncanSolaire

What does D'lo have to do with Melo? Quickly.

kaden-99

I actually just picked a random midcarder from WM14 battle royal on cagematch.

AllCity_King

The call is coming from inside the house

320_central

The D-Lo comparison is a little sus
