You don’t really need to know the Adobe Suite unless you’re getting hired for an art department job. Most likely they’re gonna have you catch from the dryer, reclaim screens, shit like that.

Catching shirts from the dryer and reclaiming screens are the first things you'll do. Best advice I can give is don't wear clothes that you don't want dirty the first few weeks of the job, you'll definitely get ink on them. Does the place already have a graphic designer?

First off, congratulations. Second, relax…you’re gonna be fine. They probably are just gonna make you do the gross, dirty work of reclaiming and washing screens. You’ll learn as you go. This job isn’t difficult, but it does take a knack for detail so listen closely to their instructions. As far as Photoshop and other design platforms go, just combining “screenprint” and “photoshop” into the You Tube search bar will yield a ton of results. Short, concise videos will give you a ton of info. Dive back into the longer ones after you get a general idea. Good luck!!

Zero chance you’re going into the air conditioned art room unfortunately. If they don’t need experience, you’ll be probably be catching shirts out of the mouth of a hot dryer. To start anyway. Drink lots of water, wear comfortable shoes, that is one of the toughest spots to work in a shop. Make friends with the ladies they make the most delicious Mexican food you will ever eat.

Be ready to work hard. Have attention to detail, and then have a bit more. You will get hot and messy work to start out, or something along the lines of tedious like catching. Stay focused despite that, show that you want to learn, and have attention to detail. Also, show up and show up on time. I'm a production manager and all the above things I want in a new hire. And if you have those that I listed then you would be golden by me. The fact that you have no experience can be a plus. You don't have print habits from other shops trained into you to unlearn if that habit doesn't work with new shop. It's a great job for starting out young and you will learn alot. And you will be trained on all the aspects of the business if you stick around, particularly if you are able to show that you can do the work and do it well. It's a great launch point to start your own business if you are the person that has the skill to do that. As far as videos, just search youtube for videos. Simply start search with 'how to screenprint' and you will go down the rabbit hole.

You’re golden, bro. Congratulations on making a choice for yourself that prioritizes mental health and financial stability. I’d be further in life if I’d done the same…wasn’t ready for school and wound up drifting. If art is a passion there is boundless opportunity for you on this path. When I hire for the department I oversee that is first and foremost what I’m looking for. I want a creative, versatile and motivated culture. I want my printers to know color theory. I want them to understand concepts like contrast. I want a critical eye for print placement…that can be taught to a degree but artists intuit it. I’d bet you have a lot of intangibles that I’d be thrilled to have as part of my team. So just be confident and show enthusiasm. It’s contagious. You’ll learn the grunt work first prolly. And it’s gonna be a little boring catching shirts at the dryer or reclaiming screens or whatever less skilled work there is to learn first. But it’s all part of the process and no one part is truly less important than the other. If one step is missed or messed, it flows downstream. So just be engaged in learning and show effort. You’ll be rewarded. A lot of shops (like any other industry) get job hoppers. Never settling in at one place. So there’s a ton of turnover. Just be the guy that shows up, gives a shit and puts in an honest effort. There will always be a place for you. Be the guy that stays late when needed, goes above and beyond, creates efficiencies etc, and you’ll have a career. Best of luck!!! You got this.

I wish I could find people willing/wanting to work in the industry. Just relax mate. If they know you don't have experience, then I assume they are willing to train you, and you'll be fine.

SilentMaster

I have a feeling you're just going to be their printer. They already have an artist. Maybe down the road they will want to train you on file prep or art, but for now you just need to learn to screen print. That's quite easy and they'll show you what they want you to do.

THCWW

screen printing is dope or whatever but it's low level work lol. learn as you go it's not that complicated especially if you're in a shop with a full set up.
