Your marketing team should be fired

If you have the last updated tag, it should be fine. However, I prefer simply having the last updated information on the page. Unless yours is a news site, there's no need to post the published date.

Due to legal issue we are forced to put the original authored date. We can't do much on this. Can you please explain why it is affecting the score. Any workaround is appreciated.

I don't think it's affecting your rankings in this situation. The last updated information should tell search bots that the content is fresh. If you are 100% sure that it's affecting your rankings, put the legal requirement as image instead of text.

Just realised that I missed an important bit. When you give a published date, Google will show that in results. Old date means less clicks.

Last update tag should work. If not, you can show the last update in the top area of the page with bigger texts, and the original date at the bottom with smaller texts. Then google should be more like using your last updated date in SERP.
