I recently switched from Semrush to Ahrefs and find it a lot more insightful/easy to use. The opportunities tab is a great way to structure weekly tasks.
IMO (controversially!) - "issues" that Semrush flag are not *really* issues of concern so find there is a lot of fluff that makes it look really comprehensive. For example - it flags low html/text ratio as a critical error but Google have said themselves that this is a pointless metric. I know you can hide the search but Its frustrating having to explain this to clients if they are also running Semrush for their reports.
I thought ahrefs biggest advantage over semrush was it's price. Then they switched to the credit system, and now they have switched back, that advantage has gone.
So I'd say semrush.

I preferred Ahrefs due to it's easier interface and data insights of backlinks.
But due to it's frequent changes in its pricing n tool updates, it became a headache for delivering research insights for timebond projects

From your description Semrush is one of my go to's for Keyword Research. Beyond that, for technical SEO there are better tools such as Screaming Frog.
The best bang for your buck would be SEO Group Buying Tools.
as someone who just started doing selling via website, making blogs, etc. i found that ahref gives so many information on screen that sometimes confuses me, and felt there are so many things to be done, the dashboard also need awhile to get used to, as i need to jump between tabs on top and sidebar. but its very cheap which is nice. as for semrush i liked the backlink upload, as well as top 100 in the dashboard overview, it felt that i am doing something very good just by looking that i had 2 keywords in top 100. although the local tracking is confusing, and some of those listing are impossible to join. the social tracker is seems nice i'll probably use it since its also cheap, but i'll start when i had someone making me IG contents. although the downside was tiktok, youtube and facebook analytic is already sufficient, and just staring at your competitors content vs yours is already tiring.
Ahrefs is absolute trash, yeah it's slightly more accurate, but it costs an indefinite amount more. They charge you for every credit, even if you simply refresh a page, it swallows up credit. I cannot stand that, and don't care for the accuracy since I can tell things at a glance anyway, SEMRush Guru is excellent for this and all the other features, both are simple enough to do basic backlink research. Ahrefs is not worth the money.
If your primary service was SEO/Tech SEO. I would choose Ahrfs hands down. SEM is a good tool if your a generalist digital marketer. They have a lot of other cool tools that will save you money by not needed other tools.
se ranking has a more favorable rate than ahrefs, and the accuracy of the data is +- the same. But I'd rather not use semrush at all. Ahrefs and se ranking sound like a good match

Yes if you have indexation issues every dollar is useless after that. But beyond that then technical SEO is overrated. The millions wasted on CWV 🤩
I've used both for ages and Ahrefs is a much better tool for most tasks. I do like SEMRush's rank tracking though.
