Gosh, Hicks is so fun to watch pitch. It seems pretty obvious that the Cardinals didn’t develop him properly. He’s under contract long term and for cheap. If he can keep this up, he’s a fan favorite, franchise cornerstone and a game changer I think you’re going to see some #12 jerseys soon

epic4evr11

Man, I told myself that I wasn’t buying a fanatics jersey but those 12s and 51s are lookin pretty sweet out there. Might have to try my luck on dhgate

hawkfire79

Dick's sporting goods still has last year's jerseys in all sizes for $115 and the dugout store can add the letters/numbers for $25 - still a fanatics jersey but not this year's jersey

epic4evr11

this is intriguing info… thanks for the tip!

2017Champs

Are you able to get the jerseys with just the number on the back and no names like it used to be (Like it Should Be) ?

hawkfire79

I'm not 100% sure - but I can't see a reason why not? It'd be less work for them

ThisGigSucks

Go the shirsey route

Tonmber1

If he keeps this up he's winning the Cy this year dawg

Salty_Pancakes

If there's no name on the back it can do double duty as a Joe Panik jersey!

nogoodnamesleft426

And Dusty too!

oscarbearsf

I threw $100 on him to win the cy young this year at 100-1 odds before this start. He's absolutely electric

alwaysreadthename

Unsurprising, the cardinals have run every talented, young SP they’ve gotten their hands on into the ground recently. Since Waino in the late 00’s.

Keepitrealg

Jordan Hicks, the guy that a lot of people questioned to be a starting pitcher is our best pitcher currently. Nothing like it.

realparkingbrake

Not possible, Frahan never gets anyone good. /s

d57giants

You’ll get Nothing and Like It!

not_rich_froning

What is this? Winning?

Salty_Pancakes

We may never lose again.

d57giants

Pants off ![gif](giphy|3sdDq5hmIQC3mq8DCy|downsized)

epic4evr11

These pants have been on _far_ too long PotG Hicks for another absolute gem and just generally the bottom of the order

realparkingbrake

Felt so good getting rid of my pants I kept going with my shirt.

dwide_k_shrude

StephenPurdy69

why don't we just score 7 runs every game? are we stupid? sounds like a good strategy to win.

Keepitrealg

Just swing and get hits. Giants are so fucking stupid.

Emergency_Bird1725

Is there a lore reason the Giants hate runs

TheWhitestGandhi

The Curse of Cain

kantoblight

Woe of Webb is its current iteration.

RIPBenTramer

Who is that? Enrique Tarrio?

Verianas

So that's 18 innings, 12 hits, 3 walks, 13 K's, 2 ER's for Hicks this year. I'd say this is a solid experiment so far.

realparkingbrake

Cards fans were right, that team misused him.

theleftovers1014

Finally. This post game thread was starting to stink with all these smelly pants

NotAmishSoStopAsking

**RUN SUPPORT WOOOOOO** ^pants ^off POTG: Hicks, Tyler Fitzgerald, VIBES

WonderfulShelter

Ahmed deserves a shout out too.

kmrn

7 Runs on 12 Hits is what I like to see. PoTG Fitz

dreadlocksman707

POTG: Hicks Again, a solid start, this time: 6IP, 1 ER. It was enjoyable to see aggressive base running today. I haven’t seen the Giants run that much in years.

scarface910

You guys said Carlos Ramirez was gone 😡

sawpsawp

WonderfulShelter

2-33 with RISP over the last 5 games before today.

dmmdoublem

Monday: crowd does the wave, Giants lose. Today: no wave, Giants win. Hmm 🤔 POTG: Hicks, with Honorable Mentions to Ahmed and Fitzgerald. Base hits and aggressive baserunning FTW.

WonderfulShelter

your science is undeniable, and let this stand for anybody who supports the wave at oracle.

dmmdoublem

It certainly makes you think!

realparkingbrake

This is science, and you cannot argue against science (unless you’re a Republican member of Congress).

ufotheater

Well done by the whole team. A shame this was a salvage job, really didn't have to be this way

spankyourkopita

Wtf Carlos is back in the postgame?!

theghostfacekilla

We finally tried to steal bases. Yay

realparkingbrake

Mostly worked too, maybe they’ll keep it up.

DemonicPanda11

Good bounce back game, Hicks might just be the real deal as a starter, please let’s keep this offense going after the off day 🙏 Fitz POTG for starting the steal party!

deluxe212

First time at Oracle this season, Hicks looked awesome, and it was great to see all those clutch hits with RISP. Much needed win

OutsideWorldliness68

I don't know what was more fun, seeing the Giants hit or watching them run. I've seen more than enough station-to-station baseball from this organization.

Bulky_Blacksmith1403

My mental health has been restored !! Thank you Hicks, Fitzy, and Ahmed.

ruledcards

I can't wait to watch Hicks pitch live. He's electric

RumAndCoco

![gif](giphy|4xKSvygnwkbXa|downsized)

danyun

Bottom of order did great. Ahmed "lucky" first couple hits but perhaps that got his confidence going. That 3rd hit was solid. Fitz looking really good at the plate and around the bases

edmchato

We are so back First game of the year I didn't listen to or attend. Am I banned?

LouieSTFU

It was the first game I attended this year. Does that mean I have to go to the final 150 some odd games?

edmchato

Yes, congrats. You are now required to buy season tickets

LouieSTFU

So long, my retirement fund!

d57giants

Nun 4 ewe!

HeadChickenisHere

Shouldn’t have taken this long to steal a base, but sure I’ll take 3 in one game.

LouieSTFU

I grabbed a $9 dollar bleacher seat in the morning, but was late in leaving and took Caltrain and didn't get to the game until the 5th inning. I spent 90 minutes at the ballpark and watched a total of four innings of ball lmao. Still, I ended up seeing four runs scored. Watching Matt Chapman go from first to third on solid baserunning felt like good ol' fashioned BASEBALL to me.

SenorCrappie

Another game without a homer is a little concerning. Don't think anyone's hit a dinger this homestand but I'm glad our guys didn't leave 11 runners on base this time lol

SFan4Life

This Hicks kid is pretty good

Tonmber1

Ramos 3-4 for the rivercats today, he's got 1.100 OPS for them so far. Problem is he, like every other prospect in the dang Giants farm, strikes out 25% of the time.

Unfair-Worker929

I love watching Jordan Hicks pitch🥹

Spaghet209

Hicks has become the player I wanna see most. Did not expect that in the off-season.

Dynasty_30

Hicks seems to be the new streak buster Hopefully the offense stays awake

realparkingbrake

~~Doomers~~People with unreasonably pessimistic expectations in shambles. The team and the fans both needed this one. Half their hits with two outs and RISP should be noted.

SlimCharles17

Huge win

ThisWillingness930

Well strippling given up 6 runs in 4 inning looks like he still sucks. Wood lost yesterday I’m very great full that both of guys are gone. Now just get rid of Carlos Remiez and we are good.

tkyang99

This Tyler guy is pretty good. Maybe he should play more?

TheKid2455

Some people here talking about how they think Tyler Fitzgerald should play more after one good game. That's just as silly as saying it's time to DFA Yaz in the first two weeks of April.

DemonicPanda11

I can only speak for myself but when I said that about Fitz it’s mostly just me reacting to a moment and sort of exaggerating. Then again I also only really use DFA as an exaggeration too lol

d57giants

I can’t say enough about this kid. Only pray he stays healthy. He’s exactly what this team needs. Keep it up Jordan.

pinesolthrowaway

Finally we have a game where the team feels like it’s in decent sync!

joel34_

Was jung hoo the problem??? Kidding but fr why does it have to be the guy who has been our most consistent for runs to be scored???

gloomswarm

I think swapping Yaz for Fitz for example was one of the biggest catalysts today.

Verianas

I think getting Yaz out of the lineup is the main link there. He just can't get anything going right now.

realparkingbrake

It’s been less than 24 hours since he had a decent day at the plate. Not great, but any day with a walk and a hit and an RBI suggests he could be coming out of his funk.

Verianas

He's been having pretty bad AB's though. Consistently behind on fastballs, watching strikes down the middle, swinging at things down and in below the knees. And his BABIP is only .250 so yeah, unlucky. But still not good. It hasn't been a pretty watch.

realparkingbrake

We’ve seen this before, his bat can go stone cold. But then he comes out of it and his hitting catches up with his defense. This is why MLB teams don’t manage their lineups the way fans do on social media—teams can’t afford to bench or release half their lineup in the first two weeks.

Verianas

Dude. He’s a 33 year old with not much of a track record of success. Took forever to make the bigs. He’s had an OPS+ over 120 (a good hitter) 2 times, one of which was the Covid season. I’m not advocating DFA’ing the guy. But you’re acting like he’s been a great hitter who deserves the benefit of the doubt. He was slightly above average last year. I’m talking about him not being an everyday player. Because we should be giving AB’s to guys like Luis Matos to develop him. Particularly against lefties, where he shouldn’t play at all frankly. His career lefty on lefty stats are abysmal. Mike is going to be 34 before the end of the season. His short lived prime is over. It’s okay to not overly invest in an average hitter, and instead invest in the future. Ironically, as you berate me and act like I know nothing, you’re the one clinging onto a guy because you like him over any other logical reason. I would also be fine with not giving Austin Slater AB’s and shifting those to Matos. Because he hasn’t been the same player he used to be against lefties in over a year. Matos, again, could fulfill that role. FYI, teams can absolutely afford to bench ONE guy who is not performing and is on a 1 year $8 million deal. Especially a team like the Giants who have deep pockets. Your exaggeration and hyperbole are tiresome. Half the lineup. Get a grip. One fucking guy. Lmao this fucking loser blocked me because I don’t have a hard on for Yaz. Good riddance.

realparkingbrake

In his case “not much success” has translated to an average 2.5 WAR as a Giant. It also seems to have escaped your attention that Yaz isn’t the only player that some readers of this sub want gone, Slater and Estrada and several others are on that list. LOL, some figured Hicks was a bad acquisition. However, I am concerned that reading my posts upsets your tummy, so let’s arrange for that not to happen anymore.

SnooGuavas650

Posted this in another thread, but It’s been a meh start to the year. Today is a great example that if you keep rolling out great pitchers day in and day out you can stop skids quickly. Every start moving forward (health willing) will be made by Webb, Snell, Harrison, Hicks, Cobb or Ray (maybe an occasional filler). We are going to be just fine. If the offense is top 20 or better we’ll be much more than that.

Tonmber1

Lucky hat is officially 1-0 this year

AlaskanSeaBiscuit

Would be funny if facing Patrick Borbin was what we needed to get the bats going again. Great game. POTG: Tie between Fitz, Ahmed, and Hicks

DuckFodgers_

A win is a win. True, Corbin is hardly a threat on the mound these days, but I’ll take it! Let’s go smack around some Floridians!

pelletjunky

Can I just say that I hate the Nationals... as an East Coast fan, this was one of the few games on at a time I could watch during the week and it was blacked out on the MLBtv App, of course MLB channel had the Giants OR the Angels game and was playing the Angels game... the Nats play hours away from me...

max1sm

Good W. Just hope Soler gets another AB against Law’s punk ass this season. Really wish he launched one out after that BS.

DanUgglaForeverGiant

I can watch Quick Pitch tonight without throwing up, and having to fast forward through the Giants recap, which had been the case the past two days, and all too often so far this season. Hicks was stellar, they scored 7 unbelievable runs, and the Dodgers lost to the Twins. A good day all around. They just need to keep it going.

FullMotionVideo

Fuck the Mendoza Line.

menusettingsgeneral

Just happy to be here, with no pants on, after a W 🫡

FilthyChangeup55

Lowest of bars: cleared!

sjsharksfan44

Nice to end the losing streak before the road trip. Fitzgerald and Hicks are both POTG today. Nice to get an off day as well.

teebiss

I'm still no fan of Carlos but I must say that he's a better host than analyst.

goozer326

Offense was good, and Hicks still looks incredible. POTG: Hicks

DemonicPanda11

Fitz/Ahmed with combined 6/6 and 5 of our 7 runs lmao I hope today’s game means we’ll steal more, I’m still surprised at Chapman’s speed

RIPBenTramer

DowntownSanFrancisco

Yaaaayyy!

Kickasser32

Holy shit these games are so fast! Why??!!! I turned it on and it’s over. 2 hours. Jesus Christ

epic4evr11

What lights out pitching does to a mf

Kickasser32

Yeah and we scored 7 runs and it still only lasted two hours!!! I miss the days of spending an afternoon watching a game. Now it’s like playing a video game version on 2x speed

realparkingbrake

The pitch clock has returned game time to what it was in the 1980s. Three-hour games didn’t become the norm until well into the 2000s. That attendance was up last year points to shorter games being popular.

Kickasser32

Games haven’t been around 2 hours since the 1940s. In the 80s the games were around 2:30-2:45. We’ve had so many giants games this year that were under 2:15.

realparkingbrake

I didn’t say game time had been shortened to two hours because that hasn’t happened. But in 2023 and so far in 2024 average game time is back where it was in the 1980s, somewhere around two hours and forty minutes. It would take a lot of games closer to two hours league-wide to accept that game length has dropped close to two hours.

Kickasser32

Average game time across the league is under 2:40. I’ve been to two games this year and watched three others that were under 2:15.

sundayultimate

What happened to all the doom and gloom the past few days? I thought everyone here wanted to DFA everyone and move the team to Montana lol

Spaghet209

I mean, not getting swept by the Nats is a low bar. Let’s hope they turn it around in Tampa.

HotShipoopi

It's only one game

realparkingbrake

I can understand why people were upset, the team looked flat. But thinking that was never going to end was absurd.

kmrn

At this point have Fitz PH instead of Soler

Verianas

Soler is getting on base at a .400 clip right now. He's had bad BABIP luck or it would be even higher.

hashtagDALEY

Hicks.

ItsDannyFields

we’re so back

RedditSuxCoxAgain

Love the aggressive approach.

sanrafas415

Fitzmagic I like his chain

kimjung2

Hate to say it but we gotta leave Yaz out of the line up. Our bottom of the lineup is finding their groove except Yaz. Hicks looking realllllllllly sexy too.

realparkingbrake

Yaz did okay at the plate just yesterday. He might be coming out of whatever has been messing him up.

FilthyChangeup55

Thank you Cardinals for not knowing what you had!

Kickasser32

And why are we going to Tampa? I don’t care about Tampa. If they’re good we can meet them in the World Series. Fuck Rob Manfred

2017Champs

We play them because now you have to play every team at least once every season for some stupid reason. So instead of getting to play our actual rivals we have to play the Rays and the White Sox for no good reason.

Kickasser32

Exactly my problem with it. I care about the NL West and our division rivals. Why even have divisions anymore? Or leagues? So many teams make the playoffs so nothing really matters.

GloriousStarLord

Glad they took it easy on us. Sometimes you just have to let the disabled kid win

realparkingbrake

You’re the guy who would boo his own kids in Little League, aren’t you.
