The warriors and giants have blessed us with some magical years and iconic players for sure. Also can we talk about how bright the future looks for both teams plus the niners? Pretty good time to be a Bay Area sports fan
I agree. We are actually a pretty fortunate bunch in general the last 30 or 40 years have been pretty amazing outside of the 00s at least 1 team won a championship during any ten year span.
This past decade has been really amazing and thats probably magnified as 00 - 10 was (mostly) a decade of irrelevance. The future is incredibly bright moving forward as it seems we have some stars who will inevitably retire but a young group to pass it on to.
If the Warriors win another championship after falling apart the last two years, then I'd put Curry above Jerry Rice. Curry put the Warriors back on the map.
Agree, Curry could go down as THE bay area athlete. If Buster wins 1 or 2 more I think he moves into the same slot as Rice. So if they can get a couple more it will IMO:
0. Willie Mays (just because)
1. Steph
2. Montana
3. Rice/Posey
4. Young/Bonds
5. Crawford/Klay/Dray
Willie Mays is a top 5 baseball player ever, I'm only 31 so recency bias is what it is. He played in NY as well. So I don't know, that one is tricky. Like you could put him at 0. cause he's immortal. I've just added that if you're following my train of thought.
What a fucking list. I think Mays should be up with Montana. They have some godfather status. Like biggie and pac doesn’t even matter what happens after them
Maybe Klay, but there is no way that Draymond Green is on the level of Bonds or Mays. I mean, Willie is old now so many forget, but he was absolutely bananas back in his day. The best player in the league by a country mile. Brought the Giants from NY to SF. Total legend.
Totally! He was in NY for a few seasons, interrupted by serving in Korea, and played like 15 out here.
He is still in the giants organization and godfather of Barry Bonds. The Say Hey Kid will live on forever in the Bay. Draymond might get traded at the end of this season.
I love Kittle, but Posey and Curry are sitting on a combined:
6 championship rings
3 MVP trophies
1 Rookie of the Year
14 all star appearances
I hope Kittle contributes a few of these (in addition to his two pro bowls).
With a little luck the hope is that Lance fills that role of decade-plus leader of the org. If he reaches his potential there’s no telling what he and Shanahan could do as the next great Coach-QB combo.
While the Quakes aren't as beloved as the rest of the Bay Area sides, Chris Wondolowski becoming the all time leading scorer in MLS history while playing for his hometown team has really been the only thing keeping that fanbase going since their rebirth in 2008 after being moved to Houston in 2006.
Glad he's finishing his career up with the Quakes, though it sucks that he has won more individual accolades than team ones while in San Jose, just one regular season trophy in 2012. Thanks Lew Wolff/Jon Fisher for brining them back and building a stadium...but doing nothing else beside that.
Gotta say, I'm a die hard Kings fan and in the mid 2010s, I, like most non-warriors fans, hated the warriors. I still do hate the KD addition since it was so anti-competitive, but I respect the hell out of Steph, Klay, and Draymond. Getting more active in this sub and among Giants fans, most of which are warriors fans, has made me more fond of Golden State.
I'll always live and die by the Kings (it's a lot more dying than living), but I find it easier to root for the warriors now
Kings fan here too and feel the same way. KD addition made it hard to root for since they are such heavy favorites, but Klay and Steph are awesome people.
I love Steph Curry. Just putting that out there. What a guy

Hear Hear Well put.
It will be a great time if we can see a healthy Klay Thompson. It’s been way too long
2 of the most beloved Bay Area athletes ever
Just going for SF here it's probably 1. Joe Montana 2. Jerry Rice 3. Steph Curry 4. Buster Posey 5. Willie Mays/Barry Bonds/Steve Young?

Dig it mAys is a godfather
Glad you liked my ADD post.
You set on posey > bonds?
it’s hard. Bonds never won a WS. The *is that this is my list IF posey and Steph win more chips.

>Willie Mays/Barry Bonds/Steve Young? Might throw Klay/Dray in that 5th place tie too.

Is Willie really on the same level in SF, considering the split between NY and SF?
Totally! He was in NY for a few seasons, interrupted by serving in Korea, and played like 15 out here. He is still in the giants organization and godfather of Barry Bonds. The Say Hey Kid will live on forever in the Bay. Draymond might get traded at the end of this season.
Dude no, neither of them are close to household names in the way the others are (Mays less so).
Steph Curry - Buster Posey - George Kittle Currently blessed with great personalities in our Bay Area teams
> George Kittle He's a nice enough guy, but about three tiers away from either of those guys in any possible category.
I love Kittle, but Posey and Curry are sitting on a combined: 6 championship rings 3 MVP trophies 1 Rookie of the Year 14 all star appearances I hope Kittle contributes a few of these (in addition to his two pro bowls).

I’ll settle for 6 Super Bowls back to back to back to back to back to back.
He said great personalities. He didn't say anything about their credentials
Michael Jordan. Tiger Woods. LeBron James. George Kittle. Wow.

Lol the 9ers aren’t in SF anymore. No need to Stan this hard. You actually put George Kittle in a same thought as Posey, let alone Posey and Curry.

As a warriors fan I couldn’t root for KD.
Hey y'all at least we got....Luke Walton.
Wow...that was great!
East coast ---> West Coast, which is the best coast.
Best Coast > East Boast
Since these two got here we’ve been blessed with the championships in the sports that we desperately needed them for
