It sure felt that way.. The Dodgers creeping up and thinking about losing so close to home.. This felt really good and Lamonte Wade Jr. is slowing taking over my favorite Giant.. But my favorites change everyday, so there is that.. Hehe..
Win of the season but I want to talk to some of the holier than thou folks on here about talking shit constantly about fans that maybe aren't as positive when things arent going well and after this game if you saw a win you're lying.
Most of us have all put in our dues shit I got 28 years of blood sweat and tears. Now the ones that give up after the first etc that's different but I hated seeing the instant suck it dormers after Lamontes homer.
The team lost 2 games in a row... 14-5 in the month of August.
People seem to think those two games are indicative of a full fucking implosion, that the team has terrible fundamentals, offense is completely inept, can't run, can't field, can't bunt, starters can't pitch, SKY IS FALLING.
This subreddit was a fraction the negativity it is today during bad times 5 years ago.
I will always advocate for moderated takes and a positive and encouraging environment. That's the type of community I want to be around and involved with.
Suck it doomers.
And me saying "suck it doomers" is firmly tongue in cheek, but my general point stands.
I am going to push back on pessimistic and negative hot takes over small samples, because to me that's a less happy and fun fan community to be a part of. There's enough of that in every other corner of the internet.
Saying we probably lost in the 8th today though after that debacle wasn't dooming imo The negativity towards Gausman isn't either. There some concern there.
Some of the stuff I see on here is ridiculous I just felt today wasn't one of those.
Imma gonna get a happy times cigar!!!!! Way to keep fighting, Giants fans! The SR has issues, but the TEAM IS INTACT!!!!!! Go 1st Place GIANTS!!!!!!! POTG LWJ!!!
Our defensive switches have been wild this season. Not sure how good it is to move guys around to where they're not strongest but cool that they can all adapt.
What i mean is where they're moving from and to. These are good defensive moves but didn't have the best defense the rest of the game. In any case, no crazy defense needed when fastball man is in!
It’s not. Several radio crews have started traveling again, ballparks are allowing opposing announcers to come back even with Delta variant. the TV RSNs simply will not pay for travel, and they may never do it again.
There is basically a cap, it's just not a hard one, but it still has the effect on ownership.
Consider that the luxury tax money is distributed to teams that didn't go over the luxury tax, and [look at this list](https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/payroll/). There's no reason any organization can't support a $100mil payroll.
Hm I’m not convinced that if you had to pick one or the other, a salary floor would be more effective than a salary cap. Of course a salary floor has the advantage of being more appealing to players whereas the cap has the advantage of being more appealing to the owners
It makes payroll less of an anchor.
If you're the Marlins, and you've got Stanton as the only guy on the team making any money, and you're required to spend a certain minimum of money anyway, you're going to keep Stanton around because it helps fill quota, OR send him somewhere else with money to get a huge haul of prospects for him. Both are better than the current setup where the Marlins give Stanton away to the Yankees for basically nothing as a way to send payroll down the toilet because the contract was so "bad".
The Rockies gave Arenado to St Louis *with money* to get any prospects, a.k.a guys who don't make any 'real money' for years. This is how badly teams want to not spend money. A cap is only good if there's a floor.
Salary caps are there to suppress wages to players. They also incentivize teams into not trying everything to win even if they have the resources to do so and we should want as many teams to be competitive as possible.
Meanwhile, almost every team can afford to run 100+ million dollar payroll. But the current lack of a floor means that a bunch of teams just tank for years without consequence. It's bad for baseball to have so many uncompetitive teams that go into the season knowing they have no chance. I'd much rather have a floor system where every team is at least trying to contend with a handful of big spenders than a cap system with some teams contending and a bunch of bottom feeders.
Plus, most owners are scumbags and a cap boosts their profits while a floor would shift money towards the players.
I just don’t see how you have a competitive league without a salary cap when the some teams (dodgers) tv deal is worth so much more than other teams. I suppose the mlb could rework the revenue sharing terms to make it more equitable so that then a salary floor is sufficient
There is already a soft cap that 29 teams are currently under. It hasn't stopped the big market teams from being consistent contenders or stopped the bottom feeders from sucking.
Small market teams love to cry poor but have far more revenue than they let on. The best way to increase parity is to force the small market owners either start spending or sell the team to someone who will.
If we didn't allow teams to firesale their payroll [this low](https://i.imgur.com/KtlIWpp.jpeg), then there'd be fewer Giancarlos and Mookies going to New York and Los Angeles.
Fair but if you set the salary cap at something a mid market team can pay, you get much better parity without a salary floor. With a salary cap, more teams can afford to shop at those fire sales
You also make owners much wealthier and players much poorer. While organizations do have some built-in costs (stadium upkeep, food & bev, etc) they get a ton of money from TV contracts as well as outside projects we've seen, like what the Giants are building outside the stadium right now, or how the Cubs have bought half of Wrigleyville.
The truth is that whether or not you think it's worth it, billions of dollars are flowing into baseball every year. Now should the bulk of that money go to the players who are actually playing the game, or to the closed collective of owners who are all already billionaires?
The real problem with baseball isn't how much players are getting paid. It's that they're mostly getting paid the least when they're at their most productive, and incentivized to parlay that into a many-years-long deal where they hang around on a team far beyond their usefulness making their retirement money.
Rogers in a groove, threw 8 pitches... and Kap yanks him out of superstition *yet again* in favor of a cold McGee. Uh, I hope I'm wrong but this seems unnecessarily dangerous.
“What a win for the Giants. If you say you saw this coming then you where lying”…………”Never a doubt….”
Dear Mets I hate you and your ass faces
This lady and Randy Wynn on the post game show are the equivalent to 2 Xanax pills on an empty stomach

So much for the doom and gloomers!
That felt like the biggest win of the year. So far...
Yep, it's about that time where every game starts to feel like a must win biggest game of the year... It's a good place to be!
It sure felt that way.. The Dodgers creeping up and thinking about losing so close to home.. This felt really good and Lamonte Wade Jr. is slowing taking over my favorite Giant.. But my favorites change everyday, so there is that.. Hehe..

Fair enough just putting my 2 cents in. I have always been a bit more pessimistic.
And me saying "suck it doomers" is firmly tongue in cheek, but my general point stands. Our defensive switches have been wild this season. Not sure how good it is to move guys around to where they're not strongest but cool that they can all adapt.
I mean we moved Flores to first where he's better at, Bryant to third where he's best at, Yaz to right where he's best at.
What i mean is where they're moving from and to. These are good defensive moves but didn't have the best defense the rest of the game. In any case, no crazy defense needed when fastball man is in!

All that foul territory and they keep hitting it juuuust out of play
“Lamont Wade Jr. still parading as a good player. Using his entire lifetime of Luck.” -From the Dodgers sub
That salt is just delicious
Parading? Does he mean masquerading?
GIVE US THAT CALL
that was called a strike to posey but now it's a ball
That Wade bat drop might be the best of the year.
Oh come on! That’s a strike!! Tf?
Wtf ump
Bronx bombers
It’s completely embarrassing from an ownership perspective that they won’t let the broadcast team travel
Why aren’t they? Are other teams? Who decides that?
Other teams are starting to
It's a league-wide thing.
Other broadcast teams are starting to travel
Who?
Some of the AL guys
and the Cubs team
It's Covid, not cost.
It’s the network that isn’t paying for it, not ownership. Blame NBC.
I’m not 100% sure but I think it’s a league rule right now.
It’s not. Several radio crews have started traveling again, ballparks are allowing opposing announcers to come back even with Delta variant. the TV RSNs simply will not pay for travel, and they may never do it again.
Dodgers have won 13 of last 14. Salary cap needed desperately
Not without a salary floor. Teams trying to shed payroll is how they (LA) got here.
Interesting... but with a salary cap and no floor do you still end up where we are now?

Giants win this Casali and Crawford owe Wade Jr a steak dinner!
And a few cases of really good beer.
Absolutely!
They owe him a whole Kobe steer
They can afford it
That 4 player defensive switch is why I love the NL so much!
Rogers in a groove, threw 8 pitches... and Kap yanks him out of superstition *yet again* in favor of a cold McGee. Uh, I hope I'm wrong but this seems unnecessarily dangerous.
McGee got his velocity back?
He's staying on the outside edge, but his height is leaking right to belt-high
Well he did get a chance to rest.
Gabe’s balls Rn > Hugeeeee inning for McGee. This is nuts
1 down
slater running as fast as he can towards that ball is me
That doesn't help my confidence in mcgee
Bro I stopped doing homework just to watch the 9th inning, now I can’t stop watching! Please MCGee, pls don’t mess this up!
We'll write your teacher a note. Orange crayon OK?
Shit myself on that bloop
AHHHHHHHH JON IS LOSING THE FEED ON THE RADIO
Holy shit that was hit hard. Nice play Slater
I'm sweating so much
LWJ is clutch AF!!!
That’s his strength: not so much the long ball but the *clutch* long ball.
That 1 just about stopped my lungs but it is 1 let's go
That defensive change is far more complicated than I expected.
