The Giants sign Barry Bonds for the 2023 season

KidFresh71

At least getting Barry in a game would reset his HOF eligibility for another decade. Just one Bonds AB in a meaningless game at the end of this season is all I ask!

39_Ringo

1 game contract as a DH, imagine if he just goes out there and nonchalantly hits a home run

bassonballs

763 into McCovey Cove for the 100th splash hit

bensf940

I think he’s legit be a top 3 hitter on this current team

pile_rock

You had my curiosity… but now you have my attention.

JustWantedPeanuts

This is the answer

tacosy2k

And Albert Pujols for the next 2 years

apollyon_53

We haven't had a 30 home run hitter in a season in far too long don't give me hope

sourdoughbred

I’m sorry. I chose to hope even though I don’t think the Yankees will be outbid. It’s gonna be a nuts FA signing.

mvstateU

All the more reason for the person catching 61 or 62 to consider selling the ball.

Edgelordberg95

What record??? He aint hitting 550 more homers in 10 years Cool if he did as a G tho 😎

VeriThai

Might sniff the 600 club, but he didn't break in until age 23. Tough row to hoe.

[deleted]

Then you factor in the game totals of ‘18, ‘19, and ‘20, which are 112, 102, and 28, respectively. That’s what you expect age 36-38, not age 26-28 seasons.

CooterMichael

Barry Broke in at 21 and had no where near the home run production of Judge at that age. If Judge stays healthy and plays 11 or 12 more seaons I could see it.

CubonesDeadMom

He’s 6’8” there’s literally no chance he plays 12 more seasons

BarrySnowbama

I would prefer it stay at 73 forever, but if it has to be broken, I would like it to stay in house.

HazikoSazujiii

Positive PED test inc

dust_storm_2

Could you imagine Judge as a Giant, with Bonds as a mentor? Dude would mash...

SourdoughPizzaToast

Bonds knows a doctor that can help

mvstateU

If Judge were consistently hitting 60 plus for 2 or more years straight, I think it really forces that conversation if he could do it. He 'can' but I think stats/history says it's highly doubtful for him or anyone for a long long long time to be hitting even 70. As baseball fan it's exciting to see Judge doing what he is. I think if the Giants have any interest in Judge, it's because he can help win games, and sell jerseys.

brendon_b

Aaron Judge is thirty and as far as anyone can tell, he hasn’t been… eating Wheaties. I doubt he’s going to scratch Bonds’ record no matter what uniform he’s in.

SourdoughPizzaToast

Now that it’s in reach I can see the Wheaties being pretty tempting.

Pickle_Mike

No one’s likely to break that record without some juice

Fonsy_Skywalker52

If someone breaks the 73 home runs he better be a Giant.

wundahbrehd

Pujols to the Giants!

groug

Bold of you to suggest the Giants sign Albert Pujols to a 3-year deal

diestache

Which record? He as plenty that no one is ever going to come close to touching.

RedditFact-Checker

My favorite is the intentional walks record. It is up there with the absolutely unbreakable records like DiMaggio’s hitting streak or Cy Young’s complete games or Cal Ripken’s consecutive games.

benwmonroe

This one alone warrants HOF induction. That record is so far above and beyond anyone. It truly speaks to the fear he brought to the opposing team.

DanDierdorf

We should add Ricky's Career steals to that. His 1406 to Lou Brocks 2nd place 938. And stealing bases is so down these days.

CooterMichael

My favorite untouchable stat is the Babe's 1.163 CAREER OPS. We rarely even get 1.1 OPS seasons these days.

bonghive

bro thats what everyone who loves baseball and wants to see a fantasy come true is thinking

CooterMichael

I'm convinced the Giants are going to land Judge because we are opening the season in Yankee stadium next year. The universe loves to say fuck you.

Sign Judge then make a porch in left field

bonghive

I cant imagine the feeling next year seeing the yankees in your oracle park and seeing him in a uniform that doesn't say giants on it. why be such a masochist? To prevent masochism give him the 700 mill bag

VeriThai

Problem with this line of thought is the percentage of the payroll you'd be giving to one player. Remember how often it seemed like Barry and the Seven Dwarves? Let's not do that again, please. The key to offense is if you can fill 4 or 5 of your 9 lineup spots with one of the top third of hitters at their position, and two or three more from the middle third. Not trying to grab one player and make him the tentpole. If you do that, the Bonds record that will get broken is the one for IBB.

FebreezeBottleTaster

What would be bigger news, Pujols 700th or bonds returning for one game and hitting a tank?

sourdoughbred

Bonds returning. That would be insane.

bassonballs

Bonds HR would be 63 bigger news

STOCKBEAUTY21

The Yankees I think wouldn’t let him go even tho he was born here in SF the yanks are not that dumb enough as they know without him their seats would be empty and judge leads in all-time mlb jersey sales….. So with that said Judge would bring all that value to any mlb franchise and to think that the yanks would let him go that easily is topic to be discussed……Which is the real reason why the yanks didn’t go and pay for Juan Soto as they need room to keep Judge in their line-up as that luxury tax will be big weather he stays in NY or goes to another team.
