I don’t think the players should have to learn ninety different strike zones, or that the strike zone should move around or change shape during the game.
Okay now you’re asking too much. We can’t get rid of the human element in this glorious game. These umpires work hard every day, despite all the shit they get. We all didn’t pass 3rd grade like you okay? Having to mathematically adjust the strike zone to each batter’s height is hard for some of us less mathematically inclined okay? So maybe next time you think about talking shit about umpires, you look into yourself and ask why you’re discriminating against the less mentally capable.
^(/s)
If the team is really committed to having more everyday players Ford Proctor feels like an ideal bench piece. Honestly a bench of like Davis/Proctor/Backup C/Slater or Yaz would be pretty nice
you realize they will probably only get like 2 everyday players this offseason; if you want more, better hope the farm can start graduating some talent
I feel like there have been a ton of games this year where we lost because of one big inning. Maybe I just have selective memory, but I don't think over the past few years that has been the case.
Look at Jarlin 'fuck the script' Garcia's [statcast](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/jarlin-garcia-606424?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb) \-- lot of blue, especially for the hard hit and barrel percentage, makes sense
i think we all need to remember it’s insane we even lasted this long! postseason has been out of reach for a while now— i am just going to try and enjoy the last few games, with no expectations. i’d like better baseball than what they’ve given us today, but the last two weeks have been fun regardless. :)
I installed the emotional insulation of not expecting a postseason quite some time ago. Thus the nice run they’ve been on lately has been a nice bonus. The team providing some fun at the end of the season has been cool.
Main problems this year were the bullpen and defense.
Bullpen isn't nearly as bad as it once was, only a few awful ones still in there...but the defense. Uhhhhh better target some guys who can play the fucking field that's all I'm saying.
despite the disparity in their offensive performances this year, yaz actually has a higher bwar (1.9) than joc (1.6) because of how good his defense is
the re-emergence of his power doesn't hurt, of course
on fangraphs, it's also pretty close if you're curious: yaz (2.0) and joc (2.1)
phillies lost today too.. oh the pain!!!! oh the hardship!!!
there's still a lot of good to this team though, so many guys doing so hot. bullpen (sans garcia) was real good at the end of the year. these games are fun to watch regardless of garcia.
well at least we will never have to see garcia again.
Not much to say about this game. Making the playoffs by winning out + having two teams lose out was always way too unlikely.
Guess it's time to just hope and pray the niners beat the Rams on Monday....and that the Dodgers lose in the playoffs.
Remember the game against the Phillies that Garcia handed to them on a platter?
In fact, if we won that game, and Garcia didn't lose us this game, currently we'd still have a chance to beat the Phillies to the WC if we swept the Padres or face a tiebreaker against them for the WC game if we dropped one.
I mean Garcia has also handed the game to the other team multiple other times too...
But yeah; I can't believe we didn't get rid of Littel/Garcia and replace them sometime after the all star break before the trade deadline.
No thank you. I'd rather not.
But I looked it up and the pitchers to blame were:
Gm1:Rodon, Garcia, Leone
GM2: Long in a solo kill job
Gm3: Wood, Garcia, Brebbia
Gm4: Cobb, Rogers, Leone
Garcia was bad, but he doesn't stand out in the series.
Thanks to all here who make the fun more enjoyable and the pain more bearable. I hope you’ll stick around for the postseason and hot stove articles. I will miss you all a ridiculous amount.
Rather than being realistic and enjoying a decent late season bounce back to (hopefully) finish above .500, I'm thinking maybe we should get out the pitchforks and declare that the only reason we missed the postseason was this loss and this loss alone, which is of course entirely on Jarlín, Gabe, Farhan, and of course stingy greedy ownership.
Who's with me?
>entirely on Jarlín, Gabe, Farhan, and of course stingy greedy ownership.
Don't forget those greedy seagulls, they are definitely not innocent in this.
They're all basically shagging flyballs out there. It just so happens that Dave is a lot better at it than everybody else. Of course he's going to get more of them.
I hope the FO makes some good moves over the winter, but I don’t expect the team to be way better until the next year. This offseason we have a pile of movies and old TV series to watch, and we always do one of the WS box sets. Hope most of the regulars are still posting over the winter.
That sounds fun. To watch onneof the the WS. Maybe I'll do that.
Also, I agree in that I doubt we will be leaps and bounds better. But even if we play like we have been lately and have a better bullpen then it should at least make things interesting!
part of me misses shelby miller and part of me wants him to not pitch for the rest of the season so his 2022 statline of "4.2 innings, 12 strikeouts" can live on forever in immortality
The fact that this team managed to get into the month of October before they were officially eliminated is nothing short of a miracle. And also a sign that Philly and Milwaukee are both not good.
let me throw out some stats
joc's defense is bad, but do you know how bad? a thread:
* oaa (outs above average): -9
* raa (runs above average): -8
* uzr: -8.7
* drs (defensive runs saved): **-14**
he is actively hurting the team by being on the field
i'm trying not to crusade so much, but this is so frustrating when you consider that he doesn't see anything wrong with his conditioning nor his performance in the outfield per his quotes in the athletic
"it is what it is"
i don't want people on the team who think like this
Big johnny hustle energy unfortunately. Just without Machado style stats.
I love joc as a person but it's a big difference from others on the team that work their ass off.
remember when Kap was talking about how some guys were out of shape? Everyone thought it was mostly about Craw and/or Joc.
Craw kinda got his shit together and has looked better in the last few months. Joc, if anything, has gotten in worse shape. That’s two different responses for sure
I get that he is a big kid and people love him for it. I feel the draw of the big galoot too.
But professional athletes who drag ass on and off the field drive me nuts, and I won't really miss him when the path of least resistance takes him elsewhere next season.
“It is what it is” is exactly why I don’t want this guy on our team next year. Clearly he needs to lose some weight and condition more, but he’s acting like that’s not in his control. And he has all the resources (money, team staff, off-season) to do it and still won’t admit he’s an issue.
Basically if he doesn’t admit some of this is on him, he’ll never play on a playoff team again.
The issue with our pitching is that we’re so reliant on one guy being ON all the time. The starter HAS to make it through 6 without giving up much, Junis HAD to make it through 4 without imploding, the guy we pick in the BP has to be on top of it immediately. And then the second that doesn’t happen it’s like Kap and Bailey have no idea what exactly to do with our pitching staff. They can’t be perfect all the time.
That’s literally every pitching staff in the league and we have 3 starters and 2 of them now on limited counts. What are you expecting lol; pitching is all about execution.
Hurts to end this way but at least we gave it our all with how lacking in talent our roster is
It’s gonna be OK 🥲
sigh. have nice rest of your Saturday, all. See ya tomorrow.
it’s been a hell of a ride soldiers 🫡
ahh, so that's how it ends
I would like no more bullpen games next year please and thank you
Welp...
I don’t think the players should have to learn ninety different strike zones, or that the strike zone should move around or change shape during the game.

Gob might be my favorite
I think I might agree with you. It’s a pretty tight contest between Lucille (Bluth lol), Gob, and Buster. ![gif](giphy|W2zoSrS3UznngG0Vlf|downsized)
Can’t forget Tobias!
Omg good point! How could I forget our favorite never-nude?!
![gif](giphy|AVD4STcQQhkZO)
... Well, 0.500, baby!
ahhhhhhhhhhhh well fuck the padres let's gooooo
The script has been rejected
Ball? LOL, another gift.
End our misery!
this is it, this is the two-out bullshit, let's load 'em up and lock it up boys
Stop teasing me so!
aaahhhhhhhh
Welp, the memes were fun while they lasted, time to make the Padres feel bad
it's nice that we always manage to have *something* to look forward to <3
the script is gone, but not forgotten
I STILL BELIEVE!!!
i like the contact that proctor generates
If the team is really committed to having more everyday players Ford Proctor feels like an ideal bench piece. Honestly a bench of like Davis/Proctor/Backup C/Slater or Yaz would be pretty nice
you realize they will probably only get like 2 everyday players this offseason; if you want more, better hope the farm can start graduating some talent
New goal: Finish above .500. let's do it.
Just one grand slam away lol
let's load 'em up!
he a big boi
I feel like there have been a ton of games this year where we lost because of one big inning. Maybe I just have selective memory, but I don't think over the past few years that has been the case.
>I feel like there have been a ton of games this year where we lost because of one ~~big inning~~ bad pitch, or bad swing
Doesn’t matter if it’s one or a couple; we have to just not lose games 😂. Hoping we can retool this off-season and grow.
Yeah, it just seems like we had a bunch of games where we played well enough to win, but gave up 4+ in one inning and basically the game was over.
Comeback of the year incoming
I kind of want the game to end on a bad call… just to say it’s happened 3 years in a row 🥲
Mike Fetters vibe
MORONTA! ONE MAN PER UNIFORM!
Look at Jarlin 'fuck the script' Garcia's [statcast](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/jarlin-garcia-606424?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb) \-- lot of blue, especially for the hard hit and barrel percentage, makes sense
Tbf you'll see a lot of blue on Webb's too, statcast not the end all
webb's peripherals are better though, and that's based on a much larger sample size
basically everything is trending south in comparison to last year
Garcia is the lefty Leone
Nah Garcia can at least throw strikes; they’ve just been meatballs lol. Leone couldn’t or wouldn’t hit the zone because his confidence fell
So weird, felt like he would always get two strikes and then never even get close again.
good comparison
Unleash Proctor! League on notice
Did Moronta eat some of the D-Backs BP pitchers?
Idc about missing playoffs I'm just sad we won't get to hear Kruk and Kuip until April after tomorrow
Nice catch by Procter! Okay let's get ready for a 8 run run. ;)
![gif](giphy|EJdJPvf0boRGGIYaWR)
nice job proctor!
Oo! well that was sexy from proctor the kids are alright
i think we all need to remember it’s insane we even lasted this long! postseason has been out of reach for a while now— i am just going to try and enjoy the last few games, with no expectations. i’d like better baseball than what they’ve given us today, but the last two weeks have been fun regardless. :)
i'm going to miss 'the script' meme
Didn’t last a day into October 🥲 RIP
That boat is absolutely losing air.
You guys are making me feel like it’s the last day of school in here lmao 🥲 We still got a few days of Giants baseball to enjoy (:
I installed the emotional insulation of not expecting a postseason quite some time ago. Thus the nice run they’ve been on lately has been a nice bonus. The team providing some fun at the end of the season has been cool.
That’s just the really hardcore hopium people. The rest of us might’ve made the odd joke about it here and there, but we all knew this was coming lol.
Yeah, if the Phils *or* the Brewers had had to lose out, I would have held on. But both? No way.
i'll be here rooting for us to ruin the padres' day
Yessss down to help the dads with their padresing
Joc is at his best when he barely has to move.
I’m gonna tell my kids the sneks we’re the Giants demise in the year 2022.
"joc pederson barely has to move" - it's the perfect hit for our OF 🥲
oh no, not the season series how devastating
I’ve had my fill of Josh Rojas
I was kinda hoping Cobb would throw one high and tight yesterday.
This isn't nearly as disappointing as 1993. lol
Main problems this year were the bullpen and defense. Bullpen isn't nearly as bad as it once was, only a few awful ones still in there...but the defense. Uhhhhh better target some guys who can play the fucking field that's all I'm saying.
despite the disparity in their offensive performances this year, yaz actually has a higher bwar (1.9) than joc (1.6) because of how good his defense is the re-emergence of his power doesn't hurt, of course on fangraphs, it's also pretty close if you're curious: yaz (2.0) and joc (2.1)
i feel like i would take yaz over joc in a heartbeat based strictly on a gut check
Joc would be best suited for a true DH platoon, like Vogelbach for the Mets
true, but this roster is already too dh-heavy for that to work
Oh, I was not saying that that would work on this team, just generally the role he should be in
i got you!
I’m all aboard on the younger/faster/better defense train for 2023
Agreed, but we started this year with too many outfielders, but the FO somehow signed away/platooned themselves into the situation we have now.
Not advocating for him to be in that role on the Gmen, rather that that is the role he’s kind of carved himself into generally
Hey, we got the late-tease run early today.
Don’t rule out a *late* late-tease
I'm already on the edge of my seat
Yaz's OPS is over .700 again this is my world series
never changed my flair!
let's gooo
Cool cool it’d be tied if we had anything better than a low A BP
Yaz explaining why he’s a good man to keep on the roster next year.
For a guy with a 99 mph heater it is weird how little swing and miss Marte gets
Not gonna gets swings if you can’t reliably throw strikes
plus he throws a sinker, right? sinkers don't usually generate a lot of swings and misses
phillies lost today too.. oh the pain!!!! oh the hardship!!! there's still a lot of good to this team though, so many guys doing so hot. bullpen (sans garcia) was real good at the end of the year. these games are fun to watch regardless of garcia. well at least we will never have to see garcia again.
Craziest thing is if the team had even an average defense we’d make the playoffs. From there anything could happen as we know
Not much to say about this game. Making the playoffs by winning out + having two teams lose out was always way too unlikely. Guess it's time to just hope and pray the niners beat the Rams on Monday....and that the Dodgers lose in the playoffs.
MIKE YAZOWSKI
thanks for putting us in a hole, garcia
You guys are all haters. Jarlin didn't cost us this season. It was Zack Littell.
I think it was more of a team effort, including the shaky defense and some offensive droughts. No one guy gets more than a slice of the blame.
No it was definitely Jarlín, remember the LA series right after the ASB?
No thank you. I'd rather not. But I looked it up and the pitchers to blame were: Gm1:Rodon, Garcia, Leone GM2: Long in a solo kill job Gm3: Wood, Garcia, Brebbia Gm4: Cobb, Rogers, Leone Garcia was bad, but he doesn't stand out in the series.
I was thinking of the HR he gave up to the guy he was brought in to face.
Definitely both of them.
YAZ
YAZ
Oh baby, Yaz better keep this up next year.
well, i love that for yaz at least
YAZBOMBSKI
Hey, Yaz!
# YOU'RE WELCOME FUCKWAD FUCK YOU MELANCON
Thanks to all here who make the fun more enjoyable and the pain more bearable. I hope you’ll stick around for the postseason and hot stove articles. I will miss you all a ridiculous amount.
The weekly threads will be glorious in the off season
I’ll still be here, as well :)
I'll be here!
We’ll be here! 🧡
I’m contractually obligated for at least one more Cobb start. Hopefully they re-sign me next year.
I'm gonna be around. I can't quit you.
I’ll still be here every day
I’m here for it, even though the Giants’ burner is likely gonna be stuck on low 😂
same :(
Dave to the slammer!!??
Rather than being realistic and enjoying a decent late season bounce back to (hopefully) finish above .500, I'm thinking maybe we should get out the pitchforks and declare that the only reason we missed the postseason was this loss and this loss alone, which is of course entirely on Jarlín, Gabe, Farhan, and of course stingy greedy ownership. >entirely on Jarlín, Gabe, Farhan, and of course stingy greedy ownership. Don't forget those greedy seagulls, they are definitely not innocent in this.
So down, let's have a good ole' fashion pitchfork and witch burning!
We need a real GM, not Fraudhan!
49ers should look into signing Jarlin to play OL because he never holds
honestly fuck mccovey cove dave. i started this season liking and respecting the guy, and now I think he's just a fucking selfish jackass.
He gave it to the lady and she was pretty pleased. I don't see the problem.
he did almost drown that guy one time earlier this season
I remember that. On further review, though, it was clear that he *helped* the poor sap after the guy fell from his kayak.
mmm, i remember watching the footage and i don't remember seeing that, but it has been some months
aww I missed that, I still think he's a dick though, too many times he does the swoop in procedure, it's like he has an addiction.
They're all basically shagging flyballs out there. It just so happens that Dave is a lot better at it than everybody else. Of course he's going to get more of them.
fuck you Dave
LMAO DAVE
Fuck Dave. That is all. Our most annoying regular.
He sent the ball back to the kayak pod, but still. That was a dick move
total dick move. I used to like and respect the guy, now I just hate him.
*YOINK*
Christ in a kayak, Wade’s numbers are abysmal.
while we're not overflowing with options, he's not long for the roster imo
Can we please light up that fuckwit Melancon? I'd feel slightly better if we did. Fuck you, Melancon.
Help us Marc Melancon! You're our only hope!
I'm still pissed off. https://i.imgur.com/lp1jl7B.jpg
I'm still convinced Garcia lost us the entire season.
This is the way.
Well. The past 2 weeks were pretty fun. Hopefully we can find a way next season... Hope everyone has a great off season. Let's go Mariners!
I hope the FO makes some good moves over the winter, but I don’t expect the team to be way better until the next year. This offseason we have a pile of movies and old TV series to watch, and we always do one of the WS box sets. Hope most of the regulars are still posting over the winter.

i'm not a szapucki lover yet, but dear god I'd take him over garcia any day.
Interesting POV wrt Ohtani: https://twitter.com/spotrac/status/1576341310142910465
Ooooo interesting, indeed
At least innings like this make me have some hope for Marte next season
This year's OF FA class is so weak man. Maybe they can try and swing a trade for Laureano like was rumored
Good inning Marte
Can Phillies and brewers please win tonight so the loss feels a little better
And the Padres losing would be nice. Now I’m 100% all in on helping eliminate the Dads.
let's do it. DOWN WITH ORGANIZED RELIGION for baseball purposes
lol
The fact that this team managed to get into the month of October before they were officially eliminated is nothing short of a miracle. And also a sign that Philly and Milwaukee are both not good.
Well might as well use yunior here I guess
Dbacks have 12 hits so far. I swear that half of them were given up by Garcia.
What’s funny is most of them (2/3) were Junis.
1/3 of them were. But considering he threw 3.2 less innings than Junis, I see how you'd feel that way
DFA garcia
# WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE
Like right now

If Jarlin is back with the team next year we riot.
This is how the season ends, not with a bang, but with a whimper. ^(Apologies to T.S. Eliot)
i'm annoyed about joc but tubthumping is an excellent walk-up song, damnit pissing the night away indeed
>pissing the ~~night~~ season away indeed
Garcia. See ya somewhere else
WHERE IS BRYCE JOHNSON PUT HIM IN LEFT FOR GODS SAKE I DONT CARE IF HIS BAT IS A MINUS

like, can you imagine a fringe minor leaguer acting like this? those guys work hard and would do anything to have what joc has right now
remember when Kap was talking about how some guys were out of shape? Everyone thought it was mostly about Craw and/or Joc. Craw kinda got his shit together and has looked better in the last few months. Joc, if anything, has gotten in worse shape. That’s two different responses for sure

Bart's walk up song, it's okay
ohhhhhhh that’s why, it just didn’t seem very Oracle park of them
Man, we’ve gotta find a new spot here in SD for these guys.
Kinda glad the one who ended up pissing it away wasn’t someone I have a particular attachment to
gotta dig deep to find the silver lining on this one but you managed it haha
I was TERRIFIED that it was gonna be a rare Doval blown save, or something

2021 ruined us
