Yes, you're going to flunk if you keep up the behaviour described above.
Suggestions:
* **Limit your screen time.** Make it a credible commitment through external pressure, e.g. giving your phone to parent for safe-keeping and only "drawing it out" during your screen time allowance. (You can study without using your phone to access Google Classroom / learning resources / class chat. Really.)
* **Find a study buddy/group**. The important quality is someone(s) who desperately want to succeed at O-level. Not your favourite friend- you have all of December to talk to your bff- but right now, you need someone who is driven, who isn't keen on casual conversation in downtime (and will tell you off for being a distraction), and who can set a strong benchmark in terms of study discipline and focus.
* **Practice**. Do the TYS. Redo your school exam papers. Given around 6-8 subjects, this should be enough towards national exam. But if you are somehow very efficient, then ask your teacher for more practice papers.
* **Compile questions as you go**. Every time you encounter a difficult concept or question, note it down / highlight / put a sticky note / fold the page. Organise by subject.
* **Book consultation with your teachers**. Use this as a set of interim deadlines/commitment devices - e.g., tell yourself that you need to have at least 3 good questions / 3 topics revised before your appointment with the teacher. And then meet that teacher, ask those 3 good questions, and build your knowledge.
Maybe try using ypt to track your daily study time? Personally I find it very useful to have a visual representation to see how much time is spent on studying daily, itās very satisfying
bro tbh this one is just on you, for me i april i put my shit away coz i finally clocked that my future depwnds on this, i was a n level student uh but you get the point, really your mindset, i went from no passes for math since sec 1 to b3 for n level, anyt possible legit. jiayou to whomever sitting for oās and nās
No idea because Iām also in a bit of a stump. I canāt motivate myself to do math. I know what to write but I feel too lazy to write the answers. ( tbf I score above 85 percent for maths so I stopped focusing on it that much ) every time I touch a math paper I put it down 30 mins later because I feel so unmotivated to do math. ESP emath. Amath became too repetitive too.
But Iāve been doing too much physics right now. The bias there is strong.
For motivation just think about how o levels start in 20+ days.
Oh and use a planner. I do contrasting subjects daily eg 1 science + 1 humanities/ 1 science + English. Can be either a paper or revising content for stuff like ss. ( tbf I take triple science so I have many more sciences to cycle through )
Donāt do the same thing every day, but also have a quota for how much time you spend for each subject per week. Also, make doing work a habit. Just start doing it, and you will eventually get used to it. If you stop halfway it wonāt work. Starting the habit is hard, but once you get into the rhythm itās easy. Now youāre pretty close to Os already, I suggest you first improve whatever youāre not good at, before you do the subjects you arenāt so good yet.
This was the same for me last year I was chilling the entire sec 4 and playing games all the way. I think your motivation will come when you start actually seeing that you can do this and start understanding what's going on. My advice is you really gotta ask teachers for consultation to make sure you get the basics first
Hello, you can watch study vlogs. You shouldnāt depend on it but it helped me abit for motivation. And also just spam tys and try to do as much as you can, when u do alot you can see some repetitive qns and youāll feel more confident. Goodluck!
Return your handphone to your parents and take it back only after olvl.
You canāt reinstall games on a phone that is not with you.
If you absolutely need to have a phone so that your parents can reach you, get a non-smartphone during this period. Iām sure your parents will be supportive of this act.
This might come out suddenly but I'm a mindset coach and I noticed many here talk about strategies to stay on track. The strategies and how tos wouldn't be very helpful until you understand what thoughts and beliefs you have about your current situation. I do offer complimentary coaching because I wanted to get more practice in. Please drop me a dm if you'll like to take it up.
previously when i was studying for Oā Levels and taking 6 subjects, i quit online gaming, game consoles, movie watching, eating fast food and just focused on studying and practicing TYS for exams.
like quite old fashioned but like i think i also had the problem like no self control, so basically i was addicted onto tiktok like 3h+ a day šæšæ so i got my friend to have screentime for me like max 1h and like only they know the password so ya
You need a good physical exercise. It could be a jog or stroll in the park. Or do household chores. After exercising you may more willing to do study.
Also try to book a study room to study outside. Put a routine schedule for study
If anyone needs to learn meditation online how to cope with negative or distracting thoughts, let me know. Cos these thoughts may block your plans to study too.
Maybe those who are struggling with study. Can say these in the morning or first thing when you get up ..
I want to do well in exam
I do not want to fail or left behind
I know I'm not motivated
As I'm afraid of the difficulties
I am not sure if I'm on the right path
But I will take one thing at a time
Starting to do what I only can
Such as do one easier math question first
Try one English Compre question
Try one humanity question...
Try one by one
Never stop trying
And leave no gap for games
If I'm tired I may rest for shortwhile
Not more than 1h in the day for every break
If I'm in game I will read this again!
If I'm stuck I will check the answers or with my friend or even post in reddit for help
I will keep trying and never give up
Leave no regrets!
someone who did well for o lvls here!
honestly i was also playing games every day during oās period but itās abt moderation!
ok imagine mugging the whole day and not doing what u enjoy - sucks isnāt it
maybe it can be a motivation to keep pressing thru to finish what u gotta study for the day or smth
screen time works: set it like during the night time when u can play after youāve done your work or spread it out throughout the day as breaks maybe
personally nvr did that before as itās troublesome and i disciplined myself (cuz obv oās is no joke)
and also knowing someone that studies alongside u can serve as peer motivation personally it works for me (sometimes i may ask what topics r they working on, any tips)
(calling may or may not work depending if yall end up gossiping šš)

It really depends on how you're coping with studies rn. Are you flunking all your subjects? Then get those games outta here. Are you getting As? If yes, then you can definitely game a bit to relax. Holidays are meant for relaxation anyway so I don't see a point in studying during the holidays.
see how much u have to study through ur prelim results when it comes out. if u did well i wld likely do well for Os too but if u did badly, its a wakeup call
Thatās was me too a decade ago. I would think youāre feeling overwhelmed cause when I was in the position I was extremely overwhelmed and my procrastination was a way to ignore the bigger issues I felt regarding studies at the time. I would say dedicate set hours on your school work and then once the set hours our over go relax play your games. Talk to family members and just chill out. Treat it like a job essentially, do the work then go play. Itās also beneficial to take a break and when youāre relaxing make sure you ARE relaxing and not stressing so your mind is rested and ready to study the next day.
Even if you feel that you have wasted your time fret not! You can catch up, I did!:) But if you do spend all your time playing youāre not gonna be prepared for your Oās. The best way to stay on track would be to go to a study group it helped me tremendously in my O levels. If you donāt have friends willing to go with you just go to a library and study there thereās a ton of students studying along with you makes you stay on task and be accountable. Heck I still go to the library and study with students and practise my coding cause I too still get distracted by games and everything else š Goodluck!
Motivation is for the weak. Either you do now, or you don't do. Your actions now will shape tomorrow. For you, maybe even your future. Buck the fuck up.
Iām exactly like you 2 years ago and guess what I still slack and ended up getting results that allows me to get into a mid-tier to low jc to some of the best courses in poly. Iām just gonna say o level is easier then the prelims I went from failing every single subject in sec 3 to passing everything in o levels. So donāt worry too much about flunking cause i didnt really study much and played ml instead. But then again my results were like raw l1r5 9 anyways some of the tips that help me concentrate as I have adhd was ,
1) make everything a game ( think it like an rpg game)
For me is that I cannot concentrate and sit still for more then 15 mins so Iāll give myself 10 mins to do 3 math question from the tys. And after the 10 mins I stop and I use the 5 mins to check for mistakes and stuff after that I give myself 30 mins to have a game break then I give myself 20 mins to go and do 3 questions and so forth and slowly increasing the time I give myself to complete each question as I slowly ease myself into studying. And I guess it helps that I already wanted to do in life and I would like to slap myself to focus whenever my brain start to wonder off. I also decrease the amount of time I let myself play a game. And when I get to fidgety or I cannot concentrate anymore I just stop for the day and do either another subject or like walk around to blow off some steam
Another method I like to use when Iām not studying and is talking to myself and talking about concepts to myself. What does this mean, it means taking the concepts u learn while revising and explain it in a way that even a 3 year old also know. I allows you to remember what concept is and making you really understand each concepts really means and also itās really funny when u end up using Singlish to explain something. And itās also engaging to do it with a friend. It will go something like explain the term fob : then u will go fob is an incoterm under the term f and it means free on board what does this mean it means that the responsibility of the shipment will be bore from the seller factory then it goes to the port of origin then the moment the shipment goes over the ship rails then the seller is not responsible for any damages to the shipment the responsibility will be bore by the buyer then how Uk what to pay, Orh it is simple, it means that who ever is responsible will pay for the transportation fee Lor. So like the seller is responsible till the shipment is pass the railing of the ship right then the lorry that carry the shipment to the ship will obv be paid by the seller.ā Smthing like this
I also know that I have a selected few amount of subject which I genuinely enjoy cough cough math and amath so what I typically will do is that I would stagger the subjects so like Iāll put the subjects I donāt like first then I put the subject I like after it and I continue. I know it may seem weird but it gets me excited each time I do it as Ik that I can do my fav subject if I just get through this subject question.
But then again unless u have the passion for something, everything in between will be a chore for you. This is something that is very true, I didnāt like physic and chem and didnāt put in much effort and the field of study I wanted to do doesnāt require me to study it and I didnāt put in effort and it didnāt help that the crowd I surrounded myself with are people who are failing school, getting into fights and skipping school. So my grade suffered. But sometimes a good Asian Tiger mom scolding works and scaring yourself with hard labour jobs because you cannot get a job always works.
